Er earlier today the dow was up 1600 plus points. We almost got to 30,000. Came within 70 points of 30,000 mark. Looked like we might get there at one point and then we started to dip and fall off of that. 835 point gain which is nearly 3 is nothing to sneeze at for the dow. The s p same kind of deal, fading off the highs. The nasdaq is an interesting story well talk a lot about, down by 1 1 2 . A lot of stay at home stocks really getting hit in the tech sector today. That is a pretty big decline for nasdaq given how much the other two were up. We will cover it all. We have fox Business Team coverage. Lauren simonetti, ashley webster, blake burman, Hillary Vaughn theyre all standing by. We start though with the market rally. It fade ad bit, but still lauren up 800 points in the dow. I know. It is all about the vaccine, right . So pfizer says its Covid Vaccine trial has prevented more than 90 of infections. Pfizer and its partner biontech, look at this, 52week highs. Stocks overall did hit record highs but closed, well, well off of them. The dow, s p 500, certainly higher but no closing high there. The nasdaq it turns negative in the end as the big momentum players stalled out. So in the mind of investors this is what is going on. First, no blue wave, a promise for vaccine allowed to return to normal. That is why you see the cheap beaten down travel Retail Entertainment names soaring today hope is sometime in the near future when a vaccine is widely available, that is the key word, widely, these parts of the economy will be held back. Look at that amc up 451 . On the flipside, this was part of the weakness in the nasdaq, those big momentum stocks that surged since the lockdown they struggled today on the idea of us getting off of our couches and the world opening back up. So there is a word of caution. Also the fda would still need to green light pfizers vaccine even if that happens next month and then distribution can start it will be limited in quantity. Moderna is likely the next in line for approval but again limited supply. And not to mention these vaccines, they require two shots and they must be stored at extremely cold temperatures. So all important, all moving parts as drugmakers and the government move to try to figure out how to inoculate the worlds population, connell. Connell yeah. We got a ways to go but certainly was really encouraging news to hear that. Lauren, thank you. Adam lashinsky joins us from business insider. Fox business contributor as well. We could focus on the dow being up 1600 and only closing up 834. That is still a really good day for stocks. I would like to talk, adam, about the messages in the market lauren was going through. First on the upside of it, it does seem like americans just want to get out, want to get back to normal. You see that in people buying up cruise line operators or travel stocks, Airline Stocks and that kind of thing. You almost feel the anxiousness of people that want to get their lives back. What do you make of it . I think thats fair. I was thinking listening to lauren, the market, we knew this already, it is really a lot like a mood ring. The mood ring was glowing bright today. People were in good mood bit 90 figure. They ought to be a good mood because of the 90 figure. But then, it is true, any rational person knows it is great to see the 90 , but as you and lauren laid out a lot has to happen before there will be packed cruise ships again. So i think that is the real side of that coin. Connell you wonder also whether there was some overreaction on the other side of it. You specialize watching the Technology Companies but i didnt know zoom was suddenly going to be out of our lives like this. The fact that that stock got killed today. Weve been all over it or now you will not use your peloton anymore, euro cue. These stay at home stocks that have been off and running since the start took a beating today. I guess some of that might be valuation but what did you make of that . Again, were not talking about the real world here. Were talking about the stock market, right . So if your prism on the world is whats the momentum in a stock, whats the reason for bidding something up to someone, realistic valuation, then on a day when you start to contemplate the world getting back to normal it is totally appropriate you would beat up on these stocks that did exceedingly well in a world where we cant leave our bedrooms. But that is the stock market and not the real world and the real world as you point out is peloton was doing pretty decently before the pandemic. So was zoom. Just not as well as metaphors as they have both done during the pandemic. Connell right. This is sort of interesting. Just while youre speaking, the Federal Reserve has put a new report out, semiannual report on financial stability, usually maybe we give it a line or two, it came out at the top of the hour and i was just looking at it, one of the things they say about the stock markets. Let me ask you about that. The stock market according to the fed is not out of the stratosphere in terms of valuations if you account for low Interest Rates. You dont hear the Federal Reserve talking about stock market valuations all that often. They talk about the valuations dont seem so crazy. I guess no irrational exuberance to use an old phrase. What do you think of that, adam . Funny, theyre making a key observation about something they have more than a little bit to do with which is the overall Interest Rates and, theyre right of course. Interest rates are low, have been low, as they and others have said are going to be low for quite some time. And so that environment stocks still do well if they possibly can. They did develop during a very, have he tough economy, during periods of this year because, you know, for people who dont eat, sleep and breathe, live with Interest Rates all the time money has to go somewhere. If Interest Rates are very low they will go into equities. Connell yeah. The one other thing the fed said in terms of the biggest risk we all face is Small Businesses hit hard by covid and they talk about the strained ability of those Small Businesses to pay loans. Say that could get worse significantly before it gets better. Thank you as always, Adam Lashinsky out west for us. And you know, it is an optimistic day overall as weve been talking about especially with the news from pfizer. That provides a lot of reason for people to be optimistic, however the numbers on the coronavirus itself are not as encouraging. The u. S. In fact becoming the first nation officially to surpass 10 million covid19 cases. All that comes as governors in several states are moving to impose new restrictions. That certainly could have some near Term Economic impact. Ashley webster is following all of that and joins us now. Ashley . Ashley connell, here we go again. There is no doubt were seeing an increase in cases across the country, based on a rolling average that is quite significant. Some states recording the highest numbers, minnesota, 79 increase on that rolling seven day average. Kansas up 68 . Washington 67. Oklahoma, 65. Iowa 62 , this according to Johns Hopkins university. Were see agroing number of states rolling back or introducing new restrictions to try to stop the spread of the virus although must be said limitations so far are not as severe we saw in the first lockdown. For instance, connecticut has reduced the capacity inside of restaurants from 75 back to 50 . Restaurants and Entertainment Venues must close by 9 30 p. M. With the exception of food takeout and delivery services. In oregon the governor has announced a twoweek pause as he calls it in five counties where the virus is on the rise. It does include the city of portland. It encourages all buses to mandate work from home. Stops visitations to longterm care facilities. Also reduces the maximum restaurant capacity to 50 people that includes customers and staff. And in new jersey just this afternoon governor murphy announcing bars and restaurants must stop Indoor Dining from 10 00 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. Begin on thursday. Another change though in new jersey allows restaurants to seat tables closer than six feet apart if they put up a barrier. By the way in new jersey over the past seven days, average of 2,000 People Per Day have been infected by the virus. That is up from a rate of 370 per day back in august. So no doubt the virus is on the rise, connell. We are seeing more restrictions but states doing everything they can to avoid anything close to a complete lockdown. Connell yeah, you could tell theyre cognizant what happened last time around in terms of the economy and they want to be careful with that. So thats here in the u. S. What about overseas . Whats the situation in europe at this point . Ashley well we kind of look to europe to see whats coming down the pike. We did that the first time around as we saw what was going on in italy during the early parts of march. Now were seeing the spread of the disease, the virus, quite an trenched again in europe. France and belgium are essentially locked down almost to the same level as they were back in march. We just heard hungary and portugal partial lockdowns. Basically theyre all putting in place these curfews at night to stop people from gathering late in the evening. They have shut down and reduced business hours. In the uk, stricter guidelines, confirmed cases in the uk passed the one million mark. As we all know, pubs, bars, restaurants are closed until december the 2nd. They will decide at that time whether they need to continue that lockdown. But the impact on the economy, certainly we know what it does here. The same anywhere. If you shut down business, people cant work. The Economic Impact of course is devastating. Connell no doubt. Ashley, thank you, sir. Ashley webster on the virus for us today. President elect joe biden spent his first weekday after the election was called talking about the virus. He is putting together a task force to take it on. We found out about that in a speech he made in wilmington, delaware, today. Hillary vaughn is spending a lot of time in that city and joins us with the very latest. Hillary . Reporter connell, as a president ial candidate joe biden weighed the possibility of a nationwide shutdown. Now today as president elect joe biden is striking a different tone detailing ways we can expedite getting life back to normal, including providing Small Businesses, schools, child care facilities with things like ppe for free. I will spare no effort to turn this pandemic around once were sworn in on january 20th. To get our kids back to school safely, our businesses growing, and our economy running at full speed again. Reporter biden announced members of his covid19 Advisory Council he says will shape the approach getting covid19 under control. They will help biden decide what the National Standards should be to reopen for business. Current rules are different city to city put in place by local authorities. Were waiting to see what a National Standard of reopening would look like under biden. Also how it would be enforced even though biden is celebrating today, the Promising Development with pfizers covid19 vaccine he does not want people to get their hopes up, warning after dark winter ahead saying in a statement today, there will be many more months before there is widespread vaccination in this country. Why the head of the cdc warned this fall for the foreseeable future a mask remains the more poet tent weapon against the virus against the vaccine. Todays news does not change this urgent reality. And, connell, the president elect has gone back and forth whether or not he would call for a nationwide mask mandate. Were waiting to see if that is something he tries to do once he gets into the white house but today he urged people while they wait to move into the oval office officially to wear a mask. Connell even if he did, hillary, he would have to go through the governors right, to encourage them to do it as opposed to try to mandate that from the oval office potentially . Reporter yeah, thats right. He also said if there are governors in republican states that wont play ball with that, he is willing to go underneath them to talk to mayors and City Councils and city officials to try to get a mask mandate in place that way. But of course, that would be a lot of work. Connell . Connell right. Then the governors potentially could override which weve seen throughout the last month in certain states. It will be interesting to see how this plays out next number of weeks. Hillary vaughn in wilmington, delaware. Blake burman at the white house, even there there was no shortage of news on this monday, right, break . Reporter put your hashed in the hat to grab out a headline and you can talk about a half dozen ones. Connell the Trump Campaign is not acknowledging joe biden is not the president elect at this point. Right now theyre Going Forward with legal efforts along with the recount efforts as well. Fox was told for example, a all hands meeting across the river in virginia, Campaign Manager bill stepien of the Trump Campaign said the following about President Trump, quoting, he is still in this fight. There is a process. Have patience. Stepien said and his staff today. Communications director tim murtagh, said they even believe there is a pathway to victory at this point. Watch here. We have high confidence that as the president pursues his lines of legal recourse, including the recounts in georgia and wisconsin, at least, we do feel like there is a runaway for the president to win this and win reelection. Reporter mentioned there wisconsin and georgia. Wisconsin, joe biden up there by 20,000 votes. The former republican governor of that state scott walker noted in 2011 and 2016 when there were recounts there the tallies swung by a few hundred, yet alone being up there by 20,000 votes. Georgia, the other state, connell, mentioned by the Trump Campaign, joe biden was last check up 10,000 votes. Compare that to florida when youre talking about five or 600 votes. A lot different now versus then. Give a quick look, speaking of the Trump Campaign, there is going to be, i believe we have the live shot, if not, no worries a live look in d. C. , as the Trump Campaign will hold a press conference right now, the rnc actually about the landscape of the race. At least what theyre saying around how they view everything Going Forward from here. Hear from them in about ten minutes, connell. Back to you. Connell all right, blake, thank you, sir. Blake burman on the north lawn for us. The other thing today we heard the sounding of the alarm about a Distribution Plan for the vaccine from one governor in particular. He was really taking aim at the president s path forward with Covid Vaccine. Well get into that whether it is appropriate or not as we continue. Pfizer and biontech announced the covid19 vaccine candidates more than 90 effective in the spread of the virus. It cops as the u. S. Surpasses 10 million coronavirus infections. Here with perspective how important this all is, is dr. Nicole saphier, fox news contributor. The 90 number, what i heard beforehand, people would be happy with less than that, that really stand as it. That is really effective, 90 . What does it all mean though . The preliminary data out of tens of thousands of patients coming out of pfizer, it says it prevents infections from 90 of people, to get fda approval it needed to be more than 350 . The flu vaccine ranges from 30 to 50 effective every year. This is more effective than the flu vaccine. As we see data come out and that 90 may not stay the same. It may get better or get worse. The preliminary results is great news and very encouraging for the pfizer vaccine, the mrna vaccine probably bodes well with moderna who use as similar type of vaccine. It is great to hopefully hear encouraging results from moderna as well. Connell the fact pfizer encouraging that moderna is encouraging. That is interesting. The it is two dose vaccine, if you do the math, it would be 28 days before you have the whole full protection. Should we read anything into that . What should we take away from that . Well two doses or two inoculations mean twice as much supplies are needed. Two syringes, two different appointments, ppe. All of sudden it gets expensive that you doubled the amount of supplies you need for the vaccine. On top of that it requires very specific storage. It has to be kept at negative 90 degrees fahrenheit, below zero essentially. Storing the vaccine it difficult. It will not be able to be stored at a lot of places that typically house vaccines. These are details that come into the distribution and that is crucial. Weve been incredible having some couples at latestage critical trials. Getting into the nittygritty but manufacturing safety but getting it to all the people as well. Connell that is the challenge. That is where the operation warp speed from the administration comes into play trying to get this vaccine rolled out as effectively an efficiently as possible. If one of your patients says upon seeing news, all right, were getting there, this is certainly progress, how long until i have my normal life back, what would you tell them today . So i mean, here is the thing this is all preliminary data. We still dont know how long the immunity lasts. They have not broken down the data in terms of how it affects certain vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those immunosuppressed. You know there are some questions we need some answers to. Just like the flu vaccine, so you can get a flu shot but you still get the flu. The good thing about the flu vaccine it decreases the severity of the infection if you get it. We dont know if the Covid Vaccine does as well. When it comes to the timeline, i want to see more literature and data. However it does look like front line workers, highrisk people may be able to have vaccine by late 2020, but probably more likely early 2021. I would say for the general population i still think it will be spring early summer, before these are widely available. The good news it is not just pfizer. We have many companies. Well see data within the next month or two. Well have a lot more choice moving forward into 2021. Connell interesting what you said about how effective it might be to get the flu or can you still get covid a question about that. Go back to my original question to follow up, what is actually means to be 90 effective in the trials . You probably already said this, to make it clear about people, how effective it is or what that actually means to be 90 effective . So that means in 90 of the people they looked at the data on it prevented the covid infection. Which is great, that is significantly better than we see with the flu shot but what i want to in that 10 they didnt prevent the infection in, was that infection less severe because they had the vaccine . They have not stated that yet. Because the people who didnt get covid, they didnt have severe symptoms. More data needs to come out before we see the results f they can prevent it 90 of the time and 10 less severity, slam dunk. Safety concerns is vital and very key to this. This is all extremely optimistic moving forward but we still need some more data before we can say for certain, to answer all the questions we may have about it. Connell yeah. Overall great day for science and hannity at the bottom of the screen says. Dr. Nicole, thank you, dr. Nicole saphier. Thank you. Connell an accelerated timeline meantime for the nba the Players Association approving a december 22nd start gate, which will be a shortened 72game regular season. They usually play 82. The senate back to work today the First Time Since the election and on the todo list for the senators in the lameduck session to avoid a Government Shutdown which always seems to be the case. Also at least trying to pass the next round of covid19 relief. Chad pergram joins us now, covers capitol hill like no other with the very latest on all of this. Hey, chad. Reporter this is the first time the senate was back in session suns the election. Mitch mcconnell talked about trying to get a narrow coronavirus bill done next couple weeks. They have to fund the government by the 11th of december. Front and center by remarks by Mitch Mcconnell and Chuck Schumer were the election results. Mitch mcconnell actually gave the president a rather wide berth to look at the election. President trump has every right to request a recount. He said no states have been certified so far. Also Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell, he called out the press here. The constitution gives no role in this process to wealthy media corporations. Now Chuck Schumer of course took the other said. He said too many, including the republican leader have been silent on the president s fantasies about trying to find more votes in these four disputed states so far. I want to direct you to something very important. The fact that mcconnell has given the president and other republicans a wide berth. Mcconnell is trying to play both sides of the street. He is trying to give an open door for President Trump to pursue this and other republican senators who pursued this, but saying lets count every legal vote. He is looking at those 71 million americans who cast votes for President Trump and also helped him ostensibly keep control of the United States senate and also pick up seats in the house of representatives. President trumps presence on the ballot helped there. He doesnt want to alienate those voters. That is why he is going right down the middle of broadway here. Here is the other thing that is very important, and i cannot underscore this enough, on the 14th of december thats when the electoral votes have to be set by the state but it is up to the congress in a joint session of congress under the 12th amendment of constitution, on the 6th of january to actually go through and certify the electoral results. That is truly the president ial election where they go through state by state by state. You can have challenges to those electoral votes. We had a challenge to ohios slate of electoral votes in 2005 after the 2004 election. You have to have what they call a sponsor from both the house and senate. What happened in 2005 is the house than met separately and debate the and voted on the ohio slate, same thing with the senate. What happens if there is no resolution . Under the 12th amendment it is very vague. It says that the votes shall be counted. It is in the passive voice. It doesnt really give congress a lot of direction in that joint session of congress how to sort this out. You have ostensibly the speaker of the house, we presume it will be nancy pelosi presiding alongside the current Vice President , who is still the president of the senate, Vice President mike pence. Interestingly enough it gives a little more deference to the Vice President in those circumstances. That is why if this gets a little squirrely going through the courts or whether republicans or the president say that they think that the fix was in, thats why the 6th of january could be very, very interesting, connell. Connell wow, that is some explanation chad. One of many things were watching. So many moving parts. 5th of january is the special election date in georgia, the other date to watch in terms of control of the senate. Well watch it all, chad, thank you for capitol hill. Potential stumbling block on the rollout of a vaccine we were talking about earlier. A governor of one of the harder hit states casting doubt over the Trump Administration Distribution Plan. The Trump Administration is rolling out the vaccination plan and i believe its flawed. I believe it learns nothing from the past. They will basically have the private providers do it and that is going to leave out all sorts of communities that were left out the first time when covid ravaged them. Connell that was the governor of new york, andrew cuomo, slamming the Trump Administration on handling of the virus and you heard about the possibility of rolling out the vaccine effectively. It comes out as pfizer and biontech announced that the Covid Vaccine trial is 90 effective. James freeman, wall street journal, fox contributor now. What do you make of comos comments on a day like this. So disappointing. Questioning the role of private providers. Who does he think just created this vaccine . Who is going to create the other, or has created the other vaccine candidates and the other potential therapies . It is the private medical Research Enterprise in this country. So i dont know what he has in mind if he is saying private companies should not participate in administering vaccines. Weve seen what his management did in new york. I dont think people want that replicated in the drug and vaccine area. Connell also we need, i think weve talked about this even in segments youve been on in the past. We need buyin here. It will become, especially the divisions in the country, red, blue, all the rest, well need buyin from blue states if the fda approves the vaccine for people to take it and you would think that type of talk would undermine that. It is hard to tell how much. People see Governor Cuomo. Theyre a fan of his. They think twice. This could be perfectly proved and rolled out but if people dont take it we have an issue on our hands. His comments are reckless and responsible, that while the fda while donald trump is in office that approves it there is a problem here. This, just i think common sense should tell people and it is really sad we have to go through this, just to lay it out, pfizer is a massive corporation. The idea that they would put this out there without a lot of confidence that this was going to work is kind of nutty. It is not going to have a material, positive impact on pfizer if the thing works t would have enormous damage to them reputationly and otherwise if this isnt isnt ready to serve the public. So, yes, there are caveats. The data has not been peer reviewed. Pfizer notes how there is more information coming in. The fda has to do what it does. We hope it doesnt take too long but for Governor Cuomo to suggest we shouldnt in any way trust a vaccine because it gets developed and approved while someone he doesnt like is president i think it is highly irresponsible. Connell that is a really good point about pfizer because, you know, not like some small Little Company on the way up that you boost the stock one day, not that that necessarily would happen either, not, this is pfizer with, unof the Biggest Companies in terms of Drug Companies anyway in the world. It is in their interests. It is in their interests to tell the truth in this case or to put out the what they have in this case. Yeah. You dont have to believe that big business is virtuous to understand the incentives here. Huge downside for them, relatively smaller up side of putting out there something that isnt ready. Connell really good point. Before i let you go, we played what Governor Cuomo had to say. President elect joe biden made comments on the vaccine a little bit different from that. Here is what he said, then well talk about it. Here is mr. Biden. We just received positive news in this fight with the announcement that there has been progress made toward a successful vaccine. The expectation is the fda will run a process of rigorous reviews and approvals. The process must also be grounded in science and fully transparent so the American People can have every confidence that any approved vaccine is safe and effective. Connell okay. You know the last part, the other thing that needs to be grounded in science. I think we all agree it does, hopefully will be is that at least a more appropriate way of addressing it do you think than what we saw from Governor Cuomo, james . Absolutely more responsible statement than we heard from the governor of new york. I would hope that fda review is not too extensive and onerous, that they have to realize the stakes here. They have to move more quickly than they normally do. I hope there is a realization there but, but it is not just government bureaucrats. Fortunately there is a, there is a active Research Enterprise and people can look at the results and we continue to get more data and pfizer will have more data and other vaccines are seeking approval. So theres a lot of information that is going to be coming out. This is very positive news but, were not, we dont want to simply rely on bureaucrats. As i said i think for all of these companies, they have, they have a very large stake in getting it right. Obviously they have been putting a lot of resources into that. The Trump Campaigns been pushing a new lawsuit in that state x they just held some sort of event at the rnc headquarters where a number of other allegations were made. Grady trimble whos been doing an excellent job covering the situation in philadelphia, he joins us from there now. The state of pennsylvania called by fox and the other networks on saturday. Whats latest on monday the latest on monday, grady . Reporter Kayleigh Mcenany said the Democratic Party is welcoming fraud and illegal voting. And we were expecting in the press conference to hear some sort of outline of the litigation that we can expect. We thought the lawsuit here in pennsylvania might be filed today. That has not been the case. But instead, it started out as just an attack on the Democratic Party, and it didnt really have much evidence to support that. Ing so thats where we are. But over the weekend the Trump Campaign outline ared some of what we might expect to see in their argument in that lawsuit. Namely, focusing here in philadelphia and on pittsburgh. In philly they say poll watchers werent allowed close enough to observe votes being counted, a although officials here stress that nobody was denied access. And weve talked to two republican poll watchers over the last week or so who tell us they got the same access that everybody else did as they were watching the votes. And then in Allegheny County where pittsburgh is, the claim there from the Trump Campaign is that republican poll watchers were barred from watching the counting process for a full 24 hours. A deceased woman was able to vote by mail. Listen. When you go to the secretary of states web site today, it says that she voted in this election. Effective november 2nd, 2020, a full nine days after ms. Andish of Allegheny County passed away. Reporter and that is true if you look at obituary records and her voting records, it does appear that the ballot was cast after she passed away. The secretary of states web site says her ballot was reported, it does not say whether that vote counted, and the Elections Officials we talked to say at no point was anybody ever denied access to where the votes are being counted despite that claim. So, connell, its something well follow up on, and we hope to see evidence in a lawsuit. Connell gotta go, grady. Thanks for watching, see you back here same time tomorrow.
