Were not giving him a break today. Tom, i do want to start with you. Taking a look at futures this morning, last trading day of the month. We were mixed earlier, now were in the green, dow up 46, nasdaq up 3 and a quarter, s p up 4 andahalf. Weve got big numbers coming out. Were going to get earnings from apple, from amazon, those are Second Quarter numbers after the bell thursday and then were going to get alphabet. This is interesting. Their stock jumping 10 last week. They had better than expected numbers. Earnings and revenue driven by cloud service, online ads and of course the big one, the push for a. I. Tom, your thoughts on earnings so far . Not just in the last week on alphabet but also too, theres going to request a lot of pressure on apple and amazon to deliver. Yeah. Im still not sure about that. Cheryl that was mike lees phone jump into our conversation. Sorry. Cheryl mike and siri have an opinion about earnings. Tom, go ahead. A. I. A. I. Yes, so were about 50 of the way through earnings season here and its been coming in a little bit better than expectations. This has widely been expected to be the trough in earnings growth. And i think this is the key, is that were starting to get better visibility. Its been happening all year and continues this year even though weve had such a good year so far through june and then july is up another 3, 4 . So were looking for that to continue. The earnings that weve had from big tech so far have all been a little bit better than expectations and theyve been coming in on the metrics of what we wanted to see which is a return to growth in revenues and in advertising and in cloud and were looking for more of the same from apple and from amazon and for continued good news on the a. I. Front that you can kind of sink your teeth into and see how these companies are using the technology to be able to improve their margins or have better revenues. Cheryl to your point about amazon, it is about web services. That is the name of the game every quarter for amazon and thats where the money is being made, frankly. You know, amazon, a big Package Delivery company, mike lee. Weve talked about it this morning. This is a 99yearold trucking company, this is yellow reportedly shutting down operations. They failed to modernize ops. A yellow spokesperson issuing a statement to our team. Heres what they told us. Quote, yellow offered to pay its employees more, a lot more, but the teamsters leadership refused to negotiate for nine months and instead made their intentions clear, destroy yellow. Mike, this is the biggest failure in this industry we have ever seen. So look, a sign of the times, this is one of our first major bankruptcies through this fed rate hiking cycle, a company saddled by debt in an industry that seems like it should be doing really well with all of the ecommerce going on right now. We are seeing a whip lash effect thats affecting all the way across into the freight industry where the excess purchases and the supply chain backups that have occurred during covid are finally rearing their head where warehouses are getting full and freight traffic is slowing down because theres nowhere to put the goods so at this moment this actually comes at a pretty good time where eliminating one of the participants in the market will help the overall market. A lot of these other participants are short drivers so it should be easy for a lot of these drivers to go out and find work. The teamsters are going to blame yellow trucking, yellow trucking is going to blame the teamsters. I think the devil is somewhere in the details but old dominion should be looking at a massive earnings bump now that you take out one of the Major Players right here. Bank of america i think is going to be up to 40 for some of the other participants in the market so interesting situation right now, really unfortunate to see kind of an American Icon go by the wayside but this the knockon effects are going to continue for a while because now this company ceased operations, if you having on a yellow truck somewhere in america, theres no one sitting there in a Customer Service office so its going to be difficult to find your goods. All of major assets are pledged to their lenders. The treasury owns 30 of this. Cheryl the taxpayer. The taxpayer is losing, mike, really quick. Before we run, i want to bring this up because we spoke with Darren Hawkins the ceo of yellow on july 3rd on this program about the teamsters and what he was trying to do to save the company at that time. Listen to what he told me, tom, react on the other side. The disagreement has been over the modernization of the company. The first phase went in over eight months ago and had union allowed the second phase is has not had union alignment. That brought us to where we are today with immediate need to negotiate and to not only talk about modernization but also keeping the Company Competitive moving forward by raising wages and addressing employee concerns. Cheryl they were offering raises to the employees. Yeah. Thats whats been happening throughout a lot of the companies, is that theyre being forced to increase wages for their employees. They want to do as frugally as they can but theyre having to address that. So its a step by step process where you do have to negotiate, come back to the table and have a little bit of back and forth. Cheryl mike, at the same time it really is were talking by the way, you mentioned this a little bit, theres 12,000 trucks, mike, that are going to offline as of today. 12,000. Look, in terms of the overall logistics and supply chains of america, it comes at a very opportune time because there is this whiplash effect that comes from the overpurchasing of inventory as youre doing this out three months, six months, a year in advance. Thats finally come home to roost where wearhouses are actual warehouses are actually full, its backing up the supply chain all the way to the shipping freighters out at sea so to take those trucks offline, the good thing for the overall economy is this really couldnt happen at a better time. The department of justice is now claiming it did not call for archer to be jailed ahead of his testimony. The doj saying in a new letter to a new york judge, quote, the government request that any surrender date should the court order one is scheduled to report after the defendants congressional testimony is complete. This comes after a letter sent saturday appearing to show the doj pushing for archer to report to prison. Liz, weve also got more guidance from c chad pergram our capitol hill correspondent for fox news. He says archer was found guilty of defrauding native american tribes in 2022. This goes back. But what i think is more interesting, h hes not under oh according to chad today and hes technically not testifying but it is against the law to lie to congress. Boy, is that a law thats broken often. I dont think theres so many things about this that are concerning. I dont know why its a closed door session. I dont know if thats to protect frankly devon archer or whether its to protect the committee from basically having him stonewall. Because that is totally a possibility. I think the letter that went out saturday was a very clear warning to devon archer, watch your step, were still in charge of your sentencing, were still able to make life absolute hell for you going forward. Im very concerned that the pressure on this guy is going to prevent him from saying what we already know, that joe biden was on speaker phone when hunter biden was in the midst of his Business Partners. We know that joe biden was there if a sense but devon archer has already tempered that by saying its not clear that joe biden knew what the conversation was about. Theres a lot of ways for him to kind of wiggle out of this. I hope that doesnt happen. I hope comer isnt over his skis on promising that. Cheryl mike, weve been showing this, is this is the statement that devon archers legal team put out there yesterday, were aware of speculation the department of justice weekend request to have mr. Archer report to prison is an attempt by the Biden Administration to intimidate him ahead of the meeting. To be clear, mr. Archer does not agree with that speculation. Is he trying to backtrack . Did the intimidation work on that legal statement . We dont know. Hes supposed to be there at 10 00. Hes rescheduled multiple times. Cheryl hes dumped three times. Well see if this even happens. How does a guy from boston end up on the board of a Ukrainian Gas Company . How does a guy like this become friends with hunter biden and set up a private equity firm with no private equity experience where you get a billion dollar sole mandate, that means you have one single investor which is the bank of china. I dont know anybody else on earth that gets these type of mandates, maybe some allstar out of blackstone or apollo and his team might break out and get Something Like that but its extraordinarily unusual, let alone for one guy with a horrific drug problem, another guy with no private equity experience to get these sorts of lucrative deals. For the most part, my bet is no. He does not want to be there. But but, ive got to give credit to this oversight committee. Theyre doing exactly what the department of justice should do. Theyre doing exactly what a federal grand jury led by a team of unbiased prosecutors should do. Theyre going to lay before him text messages, emails, hopefully recordings, other kind of information and ask him to confirm it. Wire transfers, things like that, thats clearly, clearly going to implicate the bidens, the president , and his son, in what i believe is a clearcut conspiracy. And again, ive seen these over and over and over and ive never seen anything like this ever in my career on both sides. He clearly had a sweetheart deal. She looked at it. Shes says wait a minute, fellows, youre going to have to go back to the drawing board. My concern is justice, fairness, equality and you fail, you fail on all of these points. Cheryl all right. Cheryl guy, your thoughts on this . So based on my experience, they went to this Maintenance Worker and said, look, youve got to cooperate. And youve got to implicate the president , the ex president of the United States in this destruction of evidence and make no mistake, ladies, the destruction of evidence in this kind of conspiracy, the allegations are powerful. They are strong. That is strong a strong allegation. They went to him. He either said no, im not cooperating or no, its not true. And as a result of that, theyve gone back and theyve indicted him. I want to know, is this a common tactic to throw to find some relatively low level employee and try to throw them in jail to make your case look stronger and to announce it the day after a massive plea deal falls apart . So mike, thats a great question. Its not usual. Theres nothing in this case that ive seen thats usual. The evidence is overwhelming. Theres no reason the department of justice shouldnt be pursuing this thing with aggressiveness like they do in most cases im involved in. And its extraordinary by any measure. Cheryl all right.
