Maddox died Friday at his home in Montgomery according to his obituary published by Leak-Memory Chapel.
Gov. Albert Brewer appointed Maddox as an associate justice of the Supreme Court in 1969. Maddox was elected to five six-year terms after that.
Before serving on the Supreme Court, Maddox was an assistant district attorney and circuit judge in Montgomery County. He was a legal advisor to three governors, according to the obituary.
