Judge merchant wrote in his decision that he doesnt want the Jurys Verdict to be, quote diluted by the enormity of the upcoming president ial election. Merchant also said he wants to avoid any appearance of election interference. The manhattan d. A. s office didnt oppose the d. A. Telling a jury of 12 New Yorkers swiftly and unanimously convicted Donald Trump of 34 felony counts, the manhattan d. A. s office stands ready for sentencing on the new date set by the court. Jury convicted trump of falsifying Business Records for payments made to his former lawyer, michael cohen. Cohen facilitated payments to adult Film Actress Storm in daniels. Good afternoon, this is quite something, this cascading of judges essentially pushing back decisions. This one for some people was a surprise. Sitting through the weeks, bret, of that trial there in New York and Judge Merchan consistently making decisions that were not positive to the trump legal team or to the former president , we really just didnt know what he would do with the sentencing. Now, there is also the school of thought that had he sentenced the former president to something significant on september 18th, it would have actually been politically beneficial to the trump campaign. They would have been able to point to that again as you heard the president saying that all of this has been a political persecution or prosecution. With you, the fact is now this sentencing is going to come after november, if at all. Judge merchan still has to make a decision on whether the supreme courts immunity decision will have an impact on New York case. Listen, if he comes out novembet think so the Immunity Case From Supreme Court in any way, you know, takes this off the table for President Trump, you got to know the Trump Team is almost going to immediately appeal that and maybe we dont get to that sentencing on November 26th after all. Bret right. And thats very possible, right . I mean, that immunity throws in a lot of questions based on the way Judge Merchan handled this case i dont expect a favorable decision on the 12th when it comes to immunity. They could separate parts of the case as Jack Smith has done in the federal stays case. They are going to argue enough of a Case Prosecutors that it can survive that scrutiny of the supreme Court Decision. If that happens, expect the Trump Team to immediately a appeal that decision. I would expect that Appellate Court to take that jurisdiction away from Judge Merchan and maybe he doesnt ghetto make that decision on the week of thanksgiving about sentencing. Bret for those following at home without a whiteboard of all the legal cases, that essentially clears the deck through the election, does it not . Shannon it does. Almost nothing that can possibly get to trial before 2025 or to a Sentencing Decision before the election. The number of migrants who have come into new York City exceeds the number of residents of a Council District that i represent and that joe represents. Each of our districts have about 170,000 people. Bret wow. We have already taken in more than the entire new York City Council District into our city the last two years. Its simply not sustainable. When we talk about 5 Billion number. Think about what new York City can do with 5 Billion. We just adopted a budget three months ago. And the biggest fight on the table was whether or not we can keep our libraries open. Thats the battle. Whether or not we can afford to keep our cops on the street, to hire more cops for retiring cops because they are leaving the job. To say hire firefighters, to hire teachers. The services that are required by the migrants who are coming to new York City are immense. They are costing us enormous amounts of money. This is a national problem. And just because city like New York, a city like chicago.
