Judith and natalie rhiannon, and they were taken hostage by the terrorist group from a kibbutz in southern israel. Well the Prime Minister has welcomed the Prime Minister has welcomed the release of the mother and daughter and thanked qatar for its leadership on the issue and their efforts in freeing the hostages and the Prime Minister was in egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president as well as Palestinian Authority leaders , where he stressed the importance of intensifying dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the middle east. Its 48 hours. Ive been to three Different Countries and met six different leaders, including Prime Minister netanyahu and president abbas , netanyahu and president abbas, to discuss the situation in israel and gaza. This is a israel and gaza. This is a region in mourning. So first and foremost, i wanted to express my condolences to all those affected. And weve also made affected. And weve also made Good Progress on tangible areas like ensuring access for humanitarian aid to those who need it, but most importantly , need it, but most importantly, in a situation like this, its important to intensify dialogue because we all have a shared interest in peace and stability interest in peace and stability in this region. In this region. Well exactly two weeks ago, on october the 7th, the world looked on in horror as the Palestinian Terror Group hamas attacked israel, launching thousands of rockets from gaza and gunmen also breached the security fencing designed to keep more than 2 million palestinians out of israel and then killed and kidnapped men, women , children and soldiers. Women, children and soldiers. Well since then, weve witnessed more innocent lives lost as israel retaliated , bombing gaza israel retaliated, bombing gaza almost every day and night. This is how breakfast here on gb news has reported on a war thats divided opinion and challenged World Leaders to somehow find a way to end this bloodshed. And sadly, were bloodshed. And sadly, were having to bring to you this breaking news that israel has declared war readiness. Thats what theyre calling it after surprise attacks from the gaza strip, the Palestinian Islamist group hamas launched its biggest attack on israel with israeli officials reporting around 2500 rockets being fired from gaza, as well as sending fighters across the border. As videos and across the border. As videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media. So too, did images of armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. And civilians into captivity in gaza. Just gaza. Just wahaca de man the idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities. Within hours, capabilities. Within hours, airstrikes on gaza. Airstrikes on gaza. The Israeli Military has said today that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight. But video just coming into the newsroom in the last few minutes has shown a refugee camp has been hit. Obviously, many civilians there and before even this escalation, 80 of the population in gaza was relying on humanitarian aid. On humanitarian aid. Today. Today. Today. Sorry about that. Are you safe . Are you is there somewhere you can go now . Are you okay there . I yeah, im okay now, but i dont think we can consider any place safe in gaza. So im lets see. Im fine. Hamdullah thank you, joe. Sam cofino whos live for us in tel aviv. A lot of people, especially in southern israel, people who have had relatives killed or people who are held hostage inside gaza, they have simply said that they want to see gaza turned to rubble. They want to eradicate hamas, and they dont care how many people die. Care how many people die. Well, our main news this morning and the humanitarian crisis is escalating in gaza as israels large scale Bombing Campaign continues to flatten entire areas. Well, tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south right now after israel gave palestinians living there just 24 hours to leave. Anna sewell boisvenu by otzma. We are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might i emphasise , this is just the emphasise, this is just the beginning. Beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying our enemies have only begun paying the price. We well paying the price. We well at least 17 british citizens are missing or confirmed dead following hamas attacks last weekend. Just finally, i understand that you you knew many people whove been killed. Whove been killed. Approximately how many of your friends were killed . Your friends were killed . I cant count it. I i dont know anyone who doesnt know someone who has hurt him or injured or kidnapped or dead. Injured or kidnapped or dead. Well, good morning. Welcome to the program. Its horrendous to the program. Its horrendous news to greet you with today in gazas deadliest day yet of the conflict, hundreds are feared killed in an explosion at the al al arabe hospital in gaza city overnight at the Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson has said that hundreds have died at the building after what palestinian officials said was an israeli airstrike. Ai rstri ke. Airstrike. The temptation to turn ourselves into a shouting or recriminating society must be resisted. Resisted. You cant look at what has happened here to your mothers, your fathers , your grandparents, your fathers, your grandparents, sons , daughters, children, even sons, daughters, children, even babies and not scream out for justice. S but as he left tel aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night. Sky aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night. Sky dumping more guns and more munitions and clapping and cheering on as more bombs are dropped on 2. 3 Million People who are caged in an open air pnson who are caged in an open air prison is not the answer. You cannot bomb your way into changing peoples minds. The americans couldnt do it. Others couldnt do it. It just wouldnt work. Its so bleak thinking work. Its so bleak thinking that its two weeks ago today. That its two weeks ago today. And i think theres a lot of i mean, as you see from the coverage farage, theres an understandably so. Theres a lot of focus on what is happening in in gaza. And i think people are in gaza. And i think people are sort of forgetting a little bit of what happened. What prompted this and what what happened two weeks, two weeks ago today. And its utterly dreadful. Its important to remember that. Lets head to tel aviv. Should we . Our reporter, Charlie Peters is there for us. Whats the latest , charlie is there for us. Whats the latest, charlie . Latest, charlie . Well, those two hostages released last night by hamas, the terror group in gaza, who took them on in that atrocious morning on october the seventh, they were released into israeli territory, taken by Israeli Soldiers and brought to their families last night. This was welcome news in a time of appalling misery, especially for so many of the families waiting for news about their loved ones taken by hamas on the seventh. Yesterday, the idf said that over half of the hostages are confirmed alive. They didnt give details on how they acquired that information. They acquired that information. They also said that over 20 are under 18. So dozens of children still being kept by the terror group in the gaza strip. But the news also of those released hostages was welcomed internationally with the french. The americans and also the british coming out to thank qatars efforts for liaising with hamas in their facilitation of hostage release. This is not the first time qatar has been involved in such a mission. They were instrumental in ensuring mediation for hostage release in africa recently for an american held there and also in the Ukraine Russia conflict. Qatar has also acted as a mediator for the exchange of prisoners , but the exchange of prisoners, but the idf reaction is still one of there are still at least 201 hostages in the gaza strip. This is only the start. This is a small gesture. In fact, they say small gesture. In fact, they say there will be no break in their attempts to destroy hamas. And this release and those statements come just 24 hours after the defence minister, yoav galant, yesterday set out his plan in lucid detail on how they intend to destroy hamas. He said intend to destroy hamas. He said there would be fires and tactical manoeuvres presumed to be a reference to that Ground Invasion and then a lower intensity of war after they, quote, assassinate hamas and destroy its infrastructure. And then he said the security responsibility of gaza will be handed over. Still a lot of criticism in israel about the lack of an end state plan for the israelis, for the upcoming move into the gaza strip. And move into the gaza strip. And they do see that the attempt to release hostages by hamas is seen by many in israel this morning as an attempt to delay the invasion. Many people around the invasion. Many people around the world calling for a delay to secure more hostage releases. And that is clearly a priority for the but but as their for the idf. But but as their plan set out yesterday, they still want to invade. They still want destroy hamas and all want to destroy hamas and all its capabilities wherever they can find them. Can find them. Of weve seen of course, weve seen President Biden and then rishi sunak going to israel and of course, visiting other World Leaders or middle eastern leaders. And i guess a lot of people will find comfort in the fact that maybe thats why it is important for us all to have other friends in middle eastern countries, because qatar played such an important part in releasing those two hostages. It does show , doesnt it, some sort does show, doesnt it, some sort of grounds for optimism that hamas will at least talk talk about releasing hostages as well. Is there any chance there could be more. Well, many are seeing this as a cynical release , a strategic a cynical release, a strategic and tactical release designed to delay the invasion. And there is, of course , a sign of is, of course, a sign of optimism with regards to the fact that some diplomacy here clearly has worked. I think maybe the american and qatari diplomacy being the most crucial here since 2015, the us has had a deputy special president ial envoy for hostages around the world, and that person is currently based in israel working on engaging with regional partners. No other nafion regional partners. No other nation has such an involvement in the hostage situation in the gaza strip, but also hamas has enjoyed the depiction of this conflict as the western world versus the arab world. And so engagement between qatar and the us and the uk and of course the other nationalities who have hostages inside the gaza strip is a crucial information war effort to reduce that depiction. Effort to reduce that depiction. But at the same time, many of the arab powers, in fact, all of them around israel and indeed in them around israel and indeed in the north, have engaged with significant protests with their people in reaction to that explosion on tuesday night in the hospital in north gaza. Only the hospital in north gaza. Only the americans and the israelis have put fonnard a comprehensive understanding of what they believe has happened in that explosion last night. We heard from french intelligence saying what they thought happened, but weve not heard rishi weve still not heard from rishi sunak the british sunak or the British Intelligence community. What do they happened on tuesday they think happened on tuesday night . And they think happened on tuesday night . And there some they think happened on tuesday night . And there some concern night . And there is some concern in among security in israel among Security Officials discuss officials and people discuss this issue that some western nafions this issue that some western nations will not discuss their version of events of tuesday night, of that Tipping Point in this conflict as the arab world erupted in anger. They will not discuss it because they fear the blowback their own countries, blowback in their own countries, as protests have also rocked. Lets not forget london and many other western capitals. So a very significant moment here in understanding how they can engage with the hostage situation also use more situation and also use more diplomacy the arab world to diplomacy in the arab world to try and bridge that gap that has erupted tuesday night. Erupted since tuesday night. Okay, charlie, thanks very much. The information, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformationhe information, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformation war nformation, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformation war thatnation, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformation war that charlie the information war that charlie talks about is so important. The information war that charlie talks about is so important. And talks about is so important. And i think because a lot of people are just take a side and thats not right because you cant necessarily believe what you what you hear, which is always the case in conflict. Its just very interesting. The release of those two hostages is a surprise to me because i didnt think hamas were capable, frankly, of. But were capable, frankly, of. But as charlie pointed out, it may well be a cynical thing, but i didnt think they were capable of actually just sort of negotiating at all. But clearly there is room for manoeuvre and that makes it that must be of extraordinary hope the extraordinary to hope the relatives of those are still relatives of those who are still hostages so many children hostages and so many children under 18. Scary , isnt it . Yeah. Look, scary, isnt it . Yeah. Look, it is 615 if youve just joined us, lets remind you of our main news this morning. And hamas has released two american hostages in what theyve described as a sign of goodwill. The pair are have been reunited with family members in israel. Thats who they were visiting at the time. Thats as President Biden has called the mother and daughter to say the white house will help them in their recovery. Them in their recovery. Meanwhile, in london, security is being ramped up as thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators are set to take to the streets of the capital today amid fears that that march could become violent. Become violent. Now, if it isnt bad enough or hasnt been a second red weather warning has been issued for parts of britain with storm babet wreaking havoc in scotland as the capital city now braces itself for a spell of torrential rain. Rain. Yes, the storm has claimed at least three lives now, including a 60 year old man in shropshire after he was swept away by fast flowing floodwater. Flowing floodwater. Well, thats as 4000 families in scotland have lost power, while others have been evacuated from their homes. From their homes. And this all comes after Leeds Bradford airport was closed after a plane skidded off the runway. Gb news, scotland reporter tony mcguire takes a look now at some of the worst affected areas in scotland. Affected areas in scotland. Unprecedented flooding caused by exceptional and persistent rain. Just some of the language used by the met office to describe the Severe Weather inflicted by storm babett. But on the ground, theres really no words to convey this destruction. Angus council pled with 350 homes to evacuate, but many chose to stay in place. And chose to stay in place. And rescuers have been hard at work going door to door since 3 am. After more than 100 calls were made requesting assistance. The made requesting assistance. The wall and river street was swept away around half four and the south river esk rushed onto the road and flooded the bridge end arms owner scott mcneil has had this pub for 20 years and even he was taken aback by the severity of the floods. Severity of the floods. Weve never flooded , although weve never flooded, although that river streets flooded, weve never flooded so yeah, very surprised this time. Very surprised this time. 100m down river, a caravan park lies completely submerged by the overflowing river. Slowly but surely, the water is beginning to recede here in river street, as power is gradually returning to 28,000 affected homes. But the affected homes. But the substation here in broken remains submerged and the damage from the water unknown , meaning from the water unknown, meaning that the pumps cant be powered and begin removing the rest of this water. 50m of wall gone in the river. Local resident Chris Maguire owns a home here and is frustrated that the £14 million flood defence ses doesnt include back up generators to cover for this very situation. Cover for this very situation. I know this is unprecedented, but last year it flooded less than 12 months. Its flooded twice now an additional red weather warning is now in place for saturday as the country braces for more wind. Rain and sleepless nights. Rain and sleepless nights. Tony maguire gb news has broken god , thats rough, isnt it . God, thats rough, isnt it . Horrible. Well, the weather horrible. Well, the weather expert phil morris joins us now. And, phil, good morning to you. I think a lot of people thought last night that the worst may be oven last night that the worst may be over, but it looks as though theres more to come. Um, good morning. Yes, its um, good morning. Yes, its going to be another red warning been issued for scotland. There are going to be another 100 to 200mm of rain again in that red warning area around angus at parts of scotland. And it has been an exceptionally wet period. It all started on wednesday night. We have the becks and she came in from the south and rather unusual track for a low pressure area as she moved north over the britain and to the north of britain, there was a High Pressure, so the low pressure became stuck and produced hours and hours of torrential rain over scotland. As weve seen producing the phenomenal rainfall totals that are quite unprecedented in such are quite unprecedented in such a concentrated area. And then on last night, on thursday night, we had another new low pressure developed and produced , again, developed and produced, again, enormous amounts of rain further south where i am in the midlands , we had 50 to 60mm of rain yesterday , which again is entire yesterday, which again is entire month as did norfolk. We had 90mm at thetford and in yorkshire too. Now all that rain from yesterday has now moved north into scotland , as we can north into scotland, as we can see on the graphic. And theres going to be a continuous feed of rain and wind coming in from the east and the same areas that have the really heavy rain yesterday and on wednesday have got it again today. You can see that relentless area of rain coming in. Basically, youve got your low pressure area stuck over scotland. You cant move over scotland. You cant move any further north. They usually go west to east. But this is moving from south to north and its now become stuck producing all that rain. This air has come from the south, from the azores , from the south, from the azores, full of moisture, and its literally emptying itself over large parts of england, giving unprecedented conditions. Unprecedented conditions. Okay, phil, good to talk to you. Thanks very much indeed. You. Thanks very much indeed. Thank you. Got to hope it ends sometime. Its awful. Yes. I saw a lady on one of the news programmes yesterday saying i could cry. I yesterday saying i could cry. I could cry, but im not going to because now starts the clean up. But very clearly, as we just heard there, its going to happen again. So when do you happen again. So when do you know its safe to start the clean up . The clean up . Dont know. Few more days yet. I should think. Sadly, looking at it, if youve been affected and youve got any any anything you want to share, any anything you want to share, any pictures gb views gbnews. Com. Yeah, wed gb news. Com. Yeah, wed love to hear from you now. Bowel cancer rates in the young are on the rise and of course , as we often hear with course, as we often hear with other cancers, Early Detection is key. Yeah now it appears there are six significant regional differences in the uk, scotland leads the way, actually carrying out tests from 50. In wales they start at 51. England 56. For some unknown reason , Northern Ireland, though reason, Northern Ireland, though 60. Before you get a test and its called a fit test and its easy to use. And if youre showing symptoms, you should ask your doctor for one because you can doctor for one because you can do it at home. Well, our Northern Ireland reporter Dougie Beattie has been to stormont out more and to stormont to find out more and alan flatable bowl at the front of Parliament Buildings and barry mccaffrey, a coaxial surgeon, takes us on a tour to show us the benefits of early diagnosis of bowel cancer. Diagnosis of bowel cancer. An example of what a normal bowel wall should look like and here we have some examples of precancerous polyps and these are things that basically can be removed with colonoscopy and effectively whats a minimal cost, be it a pre cancer or even an early cancer with no further treatment essential and much better than getting what is this which is a colorectal cancer, large , centrally pitted, ruled large, centrally pitted, ruled edges. And this means that this cancer has been found at a time when hopefully staging scans will show that the patient can have an operation and still potentially get cure. But youre more likely going to need chemotherapy in some cases. For chemotherapy in some cases. For example, if the lymph nodes were affected. But also if its got affected. But also if its got to this stage , unfortunately, to this stage, unfortunately, there are those who will not get cured. Cured. Chris roberson only showed one symptom and at 52 he went at six weeks on the National Health before deciding to use his health insurance. Health insurance. I felt, well, i needed to do something, so i kicked that into place and was able to get an appointment with a doctor at the ulster independent clinic. About four days later , two weeks four days later, two weeks within of that appointment, i had a full bowel cancer diagnosis with a tumour in the rectum around the size of a coke can. They were talking about. Its so quite a hefty one. That was going to be in in august 2017. In september 2017, i had my bowel cancer operation in the dundonald hospital here. They removed 18in of bowel along with the associated lymph nodes and the associated lymph nodes and the tumour itself. The tumour itself. Genevieve edwards believes its not just early testing that will result in diagnosis, but how the results are examined should be on a universal basis. Should be on a universal basis. At the moment the recommendation is that they are looking for 20 micrograms of blood in a gram of poo. The blood in a gram of poo. The sensitivity of the tests in the other nations is at 120, apart from scotland, thats currently testing at 80 with bowel cancer, its not the right term here, but its not a sexy cancer. But its not a sexy cancer. Its about bodily fluids, its about faeces, its about poo , its about the stuff we poo, its about the stuff we generally dont talk about in our normal lives. You know, you wouldnt sit around the table in the pub talking to your mates about how going the about how youre going the toilet not. So its something toilet or not. So its something that especially i think that especially for men, i think is but if you is kept inside. But if you havent any symptoms, anything doesnt feel right. You know, your body best more than anybody else. If anything feels wrong , else. If anything feels wrong, get that test and the tests are so easy now with these new fit tests, its just a little scraping of poo. Send that in. Get the results back in a couple of weeks. So easily done. Dougie beattie gb news. Storm hunt. I know its one of those things that people dont like talking about. No, butjust get past talking about. No, but just get past it because i my very best friend right from childhood, about 30 years ago was suddenly diagnosed with bowel cancer. And i thought with bowel cancer. And i thought i thought we were going to lose her, but we didnt because it was caught early enough. Shes fine. She had about 2 or 3 foot of colon removed. And it doesnt of colon removed. And it doesnt its not that it doesnt affect the of your life. Its that the rest of your life. Its that you have a rest of your life you do have a rest of your life and she shes still going and she has shes still going absolutely that absolutely strong now. And that was Early Detection. And as that gentleman just said, the test you do now is so dead easy that youre silly if you dont. Well yes, i think thats absolutely right. Right. I think the problem is men in a lot of the time, we really dont like to talk about it. And it does seem. But you dont have to talk about it. Im uncomfortable. Im uncomfortable. Send off for the kit. Send off for the kit. You can send off the kit. Its so dead easy. Oh, well, there you go. Youre uncomfortable talking uncomfortable just talking about it . Yeah, not. Its just. Yeah, im not. Its just. Yeah i think men are very bad with it. We dont talking with it. We dont like talking about our. No, but you. No, but you. But thats it. You dont have to talk about it. Really. You just send off for the kit. Youll get it. You do it easily at home, send off to the lab, at home, send it off to the lab, and then get an all clear, and then you get an all clear, hopefully, or whatever. But even if its not the great news, youve least, you know, early youve at least, you know, early as early possible. That youve at least, you know, early as earlthe possible. That youve at least, you know, early as earlthe difference. That youve at least, you know, early as earlthe difference. Yes. Hat youve at least, you know, early as earlthe difference. Yes. So makes the difference. Yes. So i would just say youve got to get over it. My friend has been campaigning for the campaigning about it for the last years. And you know, last 30 odd years. And you know, that was you had to get that was what you had to get oven that was what you had to get over. You couldnt talk about things just have over. You couldnt talk about thisorry just have over. You couldnt talk about thisorry , just have over. You couldnt talk about thisorry , thats just have over. You couldnt talk about thisorry , thats enough. Have over. You couldnt talk about thisorry , thats enough withe over. You couldnt talk about thisorry , thats enough with the to sorry, thats enough with the dog. Dog. Anyway , weather very anyway, weather very important today. Anyway, weather very important today. Well, hamas have released two american hostages in what theyve described as a sign of goodwill as the pair are reunited now with family members in israel. Thats as us President Joe Biden calls the mother and daughter to say the white house will help them in their recovery. Security in london has been ramped up as thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators are set to take to the streets of the capital today amid fears that there could be some violence and storm. Babette continues to batter britain as it claims a third life. Over the last 48 hours. Thats as a second red weather alert is issued now in some parts of the uk. Well, its all about the rugby. This morning in the world of sport. Aidans here. Morning. Its the big day. Its the big day. It is indeed. Well, its a big night last night as well as new zealand. We know the identity of the one of the finalists. At least now they absolutely at absolutely steamrolled at argentina. England argentina. Who lost to england in first so we know in the first match. So we know whos to be there. If whos going to be there. So if england are to going do it, theyre going have do it theyre going to have to do it theyre going to have to do it the hard way because its south africa tonight. If they were africa tonight. And if they were to through, then obviously africa tonight. And if they were to week ugh, then obviously africa tonight. And if they were to week againsten obviously africa tonight. And if they were to week against againsthly africa tonight. And if they were to week against against new next week against against new zealand will be another tall order. To say order. But im delighted to say were joined by one englands were joined by one of englands 2003 lewis 2003 world cup winners, lewis moody, good moody, who joins us now. Good morning you, of all. Morning to you, first of all. Good morning, lewis. Good to heat good morning, lewis. Good to hear. Good to have at gb hear. Good to have you at gb news morning. Just first of news this morning. Just first of all, can england cause an upset tonight . Mean, south africa all, can england cause an upset toniodds mean, south africa all, can england cause an upset toniodds oniean, south africa all, can england cause an upset toniodds on favourites, africa all, can england cause an upset toniodds on favourites, arent are odds on favourites, arent they . Lets honest. I dont they . Lets be honest. I dont think lewis can hear us. I dont think he can hear it. Well well see if we can get that sorted out. We will. Hopefully only momentarily. Hopefully only momentarily. I mean, because the problem with this is and you want to be optimistic for england, of course do. The challenge course you do. But the challenge it seems, the chances of them beating africa look beating south africa look comparatively if comparatively slim. And even if they the chances of beating comparatively slim. And even if they zealand chances of beating comparatively slim. And even if they zealand look ces of beating comparatively slim. And even if they zealand look even beating comparatively slim. And even if they zealand look even slimmer. New zealand look even slimmer. Thats right. I mean, no, thats right. I mean, they to about say it. Hate to say it. Hate to say it. They say about ten years ago, if you could be if you were a top contender, if you beat nadal top contender, if you beat nadal, you then have to beat federer. Or if you beat federer, you then have to beat nadal. Yes okay. Arent the two best okay. These arent the two best sides in world. Weve seen sides in the world. Weve seen france and ireland the france and ireland go out at the quarterfinal the quarterfinal stage. And the other its such a long other thing is its such a long tournament england tournament as well that england can completely different can look completely different seven weeks ago compared what seven weeks ago compared to what they like. Got they look like. Theyve got lewis have got lewis lewis back and we have got lewis back oh, there is. There back in. Oh, there he is. There he good morning you, he is. Good morning to you, lewis. Back. Was just lewis. Welcome back. I was just saying, south africa odds on favourites tonight, but what are your england causing your hopes of england causing upset in paris . Know what . Im so do you know what . Im so excited about the today. Excited about the rugby today. And theres an england fan that i am now, but south africa have been so strong in this tournament and especially in recent games. I have to admit recent games. I have to admit im slightly disappointed for england to be the only Northern Hemisphere side in the semis. Now with ireland and france and the, you know, probably the two best teams in world rugby now not making it. Its just frustrating. But as an englishman, im excited. Yes, england can do it, but the task is monumental. Arade dam lewis, is monumental. Arade dam lewis, how difficult is it to gauge where england are . Because lets face it, yes, okay, theyve won five matches in a row. Its a big improvement from where they were in august when lost at home fiji. When they lost at home to fiji. And obviously quite an average spell in the six nations earlier on in the year. They havent spell in the six nations earlier on in any year. They havent spell in the six nations earlier on in any really they havent spell in the six nations earlier on in any really high ey havent spell in the six nations earlier on in any really high calibreent faced any really high calibre opposition cup, opposition in this world cup, have they . No, they havent. And i no, they havent. And i think, you know, world rugby have probably got work to have probably got some work to do in the build up to the next tournament. You know, the way that the pools aligned and with the best teams in world the five best teams in world rugby all on one side means that we ended with a slightly we ended up with a slightly lopsided of semi finals lopsided group of semi finals and happening and all the best games happening in quarterfinals but in the quarterfinals. Um, but that being said, i think, you know, borthwick and know, Steve Borthwick and his team on england team want to focus on england because that theyre because the fact that theyre heading second heading into their second semi final, they made semi final, you know, they made the final four years ago, 13 of that team, that squad are involved in this game as well. Involved in this game as well. So theyve got all the knowledge , all that frustration, the memories of four years ago and they were in position to win a world cup and they fell short. They beat new zealand in the semi finals, so set themselves up. Knight nicely confident belief was there , but they are belief was there, but they are facing again a south african side that are fiercely physical and they seem to have added another level of attacking ability to their to their game. This this world cup and england if england need to do anything they have the physicality. They have the talent. But what they have the talent. But what they need to be able to add to their game is the attacking play. And game is the attacking play. And hopefully well see that tonight. And lewis, do you think that england will suit the tags of underdogs this evening back in your timing and werent underdogs very often but do you think it will suit the current crop of 2023 . I think theyll love it. I think theyll absolutely love it because they know you just alluded to how we were just alluded to how poor we were pnor just alluded to how poor we were prior this world cup ten prior to this world cup ten weeks ago. You know, we were we really were awful. And it took losing to to get an losing to fiji to get an emotional response from the team, the coaches. So team, from the coaches. Um, so i think theyll i think theyll revel the mantle of underdogs revel in the mantle of underdogs and give them something and theyll give them something to they know to cling on to. They know theyve nothing to in theyve got nothing to lose in this everyone them this game. Everyone expects them to defeated by south africa to be defeated by south africa who are quite frankly at the minute , the form in world minute, the form side in world rugby especially tournament. Minute, the form side in world ruglas especially tournament. Minute, the form side in world ruglas an especially tournament. Minute, the form side in world ruglas an englishmanournament. Minute, the form side in world ruglas an englishman having ent. But as an englishman having played in two world cup finals myself and one, were in a similar position as this current side where we werent playing as well as we would have liked anything is possible when you get to knockout stages and ive got fingers , ive got my got my fingers, ive got my fingers crossed and Everything Else for england to come through this evening. But they really do have to get absolutely everything right to do so. Lewis , this is a question for lewis, this is a question for you, because weve just showing pictures of south africa training there with a rugby ball, throwing it about our pictures of englands training are them playing football. And are them playing football. And explain this one to me, would you . You . Id love to say i can, but you know , as someone that could you know, as someone that could never kick a football, i would have been no use in this Training Session whatsoever. But do you know what a lot of the world cup theres so youre in so much of a bubble, youre under so much pressure that you dont often even realise that sometimes having sessions like this , theyre just distractions. This, theyre just distractions. They create ease. Um enjoyment. You can see the lads, you know, thoroughly , thoroughly enjoying thoroughly, thoroughly enjoying themselves and just switching off from the challenges and the pressures of the game. Theres no doubt they will also have had a rugby some stage this a rugby ball at some stage this week, sure. Week, im sure. Well, hope so. Well, i hope so. Well, i hope so. Lewis is aiden again here. What do you make of the line up going the match tonight . Going into the match tonight . Its horses for courses as its often horses for courses as we go through the rounds, isnt it . Yeah. And do you know what . I think you have to take your hats off to Steve Borthwick because hes approached this hes really approached this world with a im to going world cup with a im to going use tactics that are use the tactics that are suitable for each and every game. He hasntjust gone suitable for each and every game. He hasnt just gone at it with a broad brush and this is my style game and in each game hes made changes and this is no different. You know england were different. You know england were okay against fiji. They did what they needed do. Ford they needed to do. George ford can probably feel, you know, rightly hard done by to still not starting having, you not be starting having, you know, masterminded englands , know, masterminded englands, you know, pool stages, wins. And you know, pool stages, wins. And joe marler comes in in the scrum. I know eddie jones four years ago said the reason that england lost was that he didnt pick joe marler in the front row. So hes there to scrummage and the springboks are ferocious scrummagers and Freddie Stewart fits in for marcus smith at fullback who took an absolute beating in the game against south africa in his first ever start at 18. And hes still recovering from from that experience i think. And there was one other change in change at George Martin coming in the second row adds a bit more beef physical ity and you know only Steve Borthwick knows if those changes are right. But he would have made them for the right reasons and, and he will approach this game in exactly the same way. What tactics does he need to apply to win this match and, and well, quite frankly, aspect of frankly, he get every aspect of the right lewis the play right and lewis whatever happens tonight, just quickly we would we have to look back on englands World Cup Campaign as being quite successful even if they bow out at semi final stage. I think if we judge that on where they were pnor we judge that on where they were prior to the tournament, then then absolutely this is this is success. You know, if england lose in the semi final , people lose in the semi final, people were saying they wouldnt make it out of the pool. We have to remember that , you know, with remember that, you know, with a strong argentina in the tournament with fiji side that, you know, have beaten and taken teams very close. So i think teams very close. So i think they can be happy. I think they they can be happy. I think they should be proud of the response that theyve shown, bearing in mind where they were from a form point view. Didnt point of view. They didnt really their combinations really know their combinations and to have grown and and they seem to have grown and developed as a side during this. And with Steve Borthwick only, you , 4 or months into his you know, 4 or 5 months into his tenure as england coach as well, i we need to remember i think we need to remember that. So hopefully he can build off of what ever happens in the tournament england tournament if england win tonight,. The tonight, wonderful. The likelihood is theyll probably lose to the all but lose to the all blacks, but england are in a better position now than they were ten weeks ago. Louis thanks very much indeed for joining ago. Louis thanks very much indeed forjoining us. Indeed for joining us. We know youll be keeping a keen eye on the match tonight in paris. Thats moody, one paris. Thats louis moody, one of englands 2003 world cup winners. Oh, for his winners. Oh, yes. For his insight. Seems a legend. Insight. And he seems a legend. Absolutely. Seems to think absolutely. He seems to think that half chance i well, i was going to say, dont talk them down yet. No, no, not yet. Not yet. Aiden thanks very much indeed. No likes losing and now, no one likes losing and certainly not england today. It acceptable for the but was it acceptable for the conservative candidate, andrew coopen conservative candidate, Andrew Cooper, storm off after he cooper, to storm off after he lost the tamworth by election . Well talk about that and more in headline makers. Thats. N ext next its 643. If youre just joining us, lets remind you of the top stories this morning. Well, hamas have released two american hostages in what they have described as a sign of goodwill. And the pair, mother and daughter, have been reunited with family members in israel. Thats us President Joe Biden thats as us President Joe Biden calls on the mother and daughter to say the white house will help them in their recovery. Being ramped up security is being ramped up in london thousands of pro in london as thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators set to take to the streets today amid fears that there could be potentially some violence. And storm. Babette continues to batter britain as it claims a third life over the last 48 hours. Thats as a second red weather alert is issued in some parts of the uk. Well joining us to go the uk. Well joining us to go through the headlines is gb news senior political commentator nigel nelson and his long suffering wife , the former suffering wife, the former conservative adviser, claire pearsall. Pearsall. Good to see you both this morning. Morning. Morning. Hey, morning. Morning. Morning. Hey, you owe me a tenner for that. Claire nigel, lets start with you. Should we . Looking at the telegraph . Yeah. Its really story. Its a really weird story. This what suggests is there this what it suggests is there has already been a terrorist attack in britain and carried out in the name of palestine. And now there are no details for this. The telegraph is saying this. The telegraph is saying the whole thing was hushed up because they feared there might because they feared there might be copycat attacks. Is that its be copycat attacks. Is that its involves a man who came to the uk in 2020. According to the telegraph. If obviously if there telegraph. If obviously if there has been some kind of attack in credibly serious because at the moment m15 and the joint Terrorism Centre are trying to decide whether to up our security level to critical which is the top level. Is the top level. So this is an Asylum Seeker whos been here since 2020, is an Asylum Seeker , but somebody an Asylum Seeker, but somebody whos been here since, somebody whos been here since, somebody who came here in 2020, according to the paper. Yes. Yes. Been here since 2020. And so been here since 2020. And is this supposed terrorist attack linked to whats happened in the last two weeks . Yes, because he hes told police that he did it in the name of palestine. So it is to do with what has happened. As i say, without the details, you cant really assess how serious it is. It is. But if they hushed it up because they were worried about copycats , is it responsible to copycats, is it responsible to then report it . Good question. Then report it . Good question. I mean, the one thing it doesnt do is go into details of what the what kind of attack it might be. So i suppose if youre trying to copy it, you need the details to be able to do that. But yes, that is a very good point. I mean, if this has been kept under wraps for good reason , it would irresponsible to , it would be irresponsible to then be reporting it. Obviously, then be reporting it. Obviously, youve got a big demo coming up today. And there are all today. And so there are all sorts of security concerns about that. So i was a bit uncomfortable about the fact they did that. How have they explained that theyve got the story in the first place . They havent. They havent its the they havent because its the front lead. Front page lead. It is the front page lead. I mean, they obviously consider it very they obviously mean, they obviously consider it very that they obviously mean, they obviously consider it very that theyre obviously mean, they obviously consider it very that theyre prettyisly and also that theyre pretty certain their facts be certain of their facts to be able to put it on the front page like that. Lets on to the okay, lets move on to the mail. Claire which is bad news for the tories because reform uk are saying theyre going to stand candidates out everywhere at the general election. Thats right. After the two by elections that we have currently had in tamworth and in mid bedfordshire reform have done quite well. When you start looking at the figures and you break down the voting reform, did pick up a number of votes , did pick up a number of votes, especially from the conservative side of life. So i its always interesting when smaller parties come into the mix and i think that its only a good thing for democracy to have choice. I dont have an issue with that. I dont have an issue with that. I think its very difficult from a conservative point of view because youre going to pick off those supporters that are on the right hand side of your party and youre going to split your vote that way. But i do think that its interesting that richard tice, who is putting in this piece at the moment, is backing a referendum on proportional representation, which which is a small part is always do small. Exactly. And always do small. Exactly. And its going down the whole route of what the liberal democrats have done. And if the liberal have done. And if the liberal democrats are going to prop up have done. And if the liberal derrkindzs are going to prop up have done. And if the liberal denkind ofrre going to prop up have done. And if the liberal denkind of labourg to prop up have done. And if the liberal den kind of Labour Government as any kind of Labour Government as they that is one their they hope, that is one of their demands on table. So i think demands on the table. So i think that in one respect, you can look at it and you say this is a great for small parties to great idea for small parties to come then they put come through, but then they put things that table things like that on the table and you okay, youre only and you think, okay, youre only to going appeal to a very small majority at this. Hate to say it because and i hate to say it because at one stage in my life i thought it was very good idea. Thought it was a very good idea. Pr but, but does itjust thought it was a very good idea. Pr but, but does it just create perpetual , pr but, but does it just create perpetual, hung parliaments . Yes, it does. It does. It yes, it does. It does. It doesnt give you very rarely gives you a majority government. Gives you a majority government. You scrabble around for some kind of coalition. And as weve seen across europe, where proportional representation is used those coalitions used, those coalitions very rarely last and very rarely do anything for good the public that it represents. Im not a great fan of it. I dont think it works. Every system has its faults and it also also means that the third horse comes first. It because once you can get once you get pr into place. So for instance, if in 2015, when ukip were doing doing really well, there were about 15 in the polls , had there been pr, the polls, had there been pr, they could be looking at sort of 80 odd mps. So and they didnt get a single one. So it shows you what pr can do. I mean, the its certainly much more democratic , but the point of democratic, but the point of first past the post is it should deliver you with a single strong government. Yeah, yeah. Government. Yeah, yeah. And interestingly with reform in both by elections, the number of votes they got was greater than the labour majority. Than the labour majority. Thats right. Thats right. Thats right. So labours sort of swing ing the flag saying we won those seats but actually had reform candidates not been there , it candidates not been there, it might have turned out differently. Well, in tamworth is particularly interesting because you had all these reform voters, been tory voters, which of course we dont know, but its suspected that a lot of them are, but probably are. And certainly that the 5 they got in tamworth is roughly where they are nationally. They would they are nationally. They would have the tories would have won, won the seat by 57 votes. So i mean it does show that that when the general election comes , if the general election comes, if reform are fielding candidates , reform are fielding candidates, i think that richard tice is talking about 630 seats now. So in those marginal ones he could play in those marginal ones he could play a decisive role. Yeah, he could. Lets you yeah, he could. Lets you mentioned tamworth, clare , lets mentioned tamworth, clare, lets have a look at tamworth because Andrew Cooper was the defeated conservative candidate who now i wasnt aware of this apparently stormed off stage. Stormed off stage. Well, he wasnt there for the actual. I well, he wasnt there for the actual. I mean well, he wasnt there for the actual. I mean everybody was actual. I mean everybody was worried because i actually watched it live and, and they were saying the tory candidate was actually his opponent , was actually his opponent, whereas the tory candidate was the tory candidate and they couldnt find him. And then couldnt find him. And then apparently at the very last second, sort of scramble second, he did sort of scramble in, or at least they pulled him in. But when he lost, he stormed off, apparently. Now, i dont know whether hes in that line up. Yes. Yeah, there he is, know whether hes in that line on p. Yes. Yeah, there he is, know whether hes in that line on the as. Yeah, there he is, know whether hes in that line on the rightah, there he is, know whether hes in that line on the right. H, there he is, just on the right. Yeah, right at the end. Yeah, right at the end. Yeah. So. And it was. So whats gone on there . Whats gone on there . I mean this just i think bnngs i mean this just i think brings into the perspective of, of how you behave as a candidate in elections is nobody wants to lose. And i speak as somebody who has lost an election this yean who has lost an election this year. Yeah. A local election. And you do have to stand there andits and you do have to stand there and its a painful, painful result if you lose. However it is courteous to those who win to stand there, accept the result, congratulate them, and then you walk off. You can deal with your own emotions aftennards. But i think that this is just the right and proper way to actually deal with something which is a democratic process which is legally binding, which you have to go through and you have to stand there and you have to suck it up and you behave properly. Well, to turn up late , i also well, to turn up late, i also think is extremely rude because they dont do the declaration without him there, could they . They cannot do the declaration without the candidate being present its just present and i think its just extremely to all of the extremely rude to all of the count staff who have worked throughout to throughout the evening to get this but also all of this counted, but also all of the other candidates who had probably for some probably been there for some hours election nights are hours now. Election nights are long. They long. They are stressful, they are but you have to are emotional. But you have to put that side and just put that to one side and just behave like a grown up. Well, its respect for democracy. Yeah, i think so. Yeah, i think so. Yes. I mean, i picked up sort of claires emotions after she lost the election, but then i thought she was going it. Thought she was going to win it. I was actually astonished that at happened in our area. At what happened in our area. But youre i mean, but yes, youre right. I mean, i think that its really important that well just show good that you well just show good manners to everybody else that its the most. Its the most. Do we know that he stormed off . Yes there is video video of him. Him. Yes. He was only there for about five minutes. He arrived on stage. Heard the result. On stage. We heard the result. Off he went. Yeah, he didnt even do a speech because normally the sort of second candidate will do speech. Thats right. They didnt even listen to the winners speech. Yeah, he didnt even listen to now, current mps to the. Now, the current mps speech, which i just think is very, very rude. Somebody is very, very rude. If somebody is doing acceptance speech, you doing an acceptance speech, you have smile, have to stand there, you smile, you and then you you shake hands, and then you leave. You dont always have to do a sort of little speech aftennards. But i think its very, important. A very, very important. This is a Democratic People have democratic process. People have gone out and voted. You have to abide kind of you should abide by the kind of you should be thanking the people who voted for you. Absolutely. Absolutely. Also thank the council and also to thank the council staff. Thats always really staff. Thats always a really important it that they important part of it that they are and they have done are there and they have done their duty throughout night. Their duty throughout the night. And say thank you to and you just say thank you to them you to the people them and thank you to the people that helped you with the that have helped you with the campaign as well. And given up hours i just hours of their time. So i just think its exceptionally rude and. And bad mannered. Well, i agree. Yeah. Yeah. Well, i agree. Its how done. Nigel in its not how its done. Nigel in the express and jonathan gullies a tory mp is amongst those who are calling on the Prime Minister to slash taxes and reduce illegal immigration because their common sense policies. Well, how do you policies. Well, how do you afford to do it and how do you practically do it in immigration . Its the same old mantra that they keep coming up with the that, especially from that wing of the conservative party , that of the conservative party, that the problem with the conservative party is its not conservative. So yes, lets slash taxes less. Lets stop the boats. Yes, they havent come up boats. Yes, they havent come up with a way of stopping the boats. And if you start slashing taxes at the moment, were not going to control inflation. So jeremy hunt is absolutely right that the inflation is the biggest target and thats the one that they must deal with. Yeah itjust one that they must deal with. Yeah it just seems youve got to have a solution. You cant just demand things. Youve got to sort of have a plan how you achieve it. Plan of how you achieve it. Well, exactly. Certainly with the stop and certainly with the stop the they the boats thing that they havent really of the plans havent really none of the plans at moment even were they to at the moment even were they to work back, looked like they would stop the boats. So it was a of rash promise from a bit of a rash promise from rishi sunak to say thats what he going to do. He was going to do. Is just another sort but this is just another sort of the conservative of faction of the conservative party, shows how fractured party, which shows how fractured it is. This is the new conservatives putting fonnard their agenda ideas. And apparently they do have a plan. They have a 12 point plan for immigration. They have one for tax cuts , especially for tax cuts, especially for families and aid. When you sort of boil down the detail, especially if youre just going to look at the one around tax and families, i have a real issue when somebody is suggesting that a family is a mum, dad and children in this very traditional sort of 1940s setup, families arent like setup, when families arent like that. So i just think its all very nice. Its a very lovely idea if it was any good, i would suggest that the Prime Minister would have stolen those ideas already and put them fonnard and he doesnt appear to have done so right. So right. And meanwhile, we dont know how to eat baked beans properly. According heinz there we according to heinz there we dont, although i think do dont, although i think we do because the what what its that difficult baked beans on top. Well, precisely. I had it last night and what heinz have come up with is a five point guide about how you should actually do it. Right. Well, how should you do it . And why are we doing it wrong . Were not. I mean, the only thing of all, you toast thing first of all, you toast two slices of bread. Yeah okay, check. Warm the beans on the hob. White bread as well. White bread as well. Yeah. The white bread . Yeah. Warm the beans hob. Check. Butter beans on the hob. Check. Butter the check check. Spoon the toast. Check check. Spoon the toast. Check check. Spoon the beans top. Check the only the beans on top. Check the only one which i dont do or didnt do night is apparently you do last night is apparently you store can upside down and store the can upside down and that seems to be quite, quite makes sense. So is that the beans will come out. You dont have to start school. Sing them have to start school. Sing them out with your fingers. Thats just thats just but thats just thats just wrong isnt it . Because then youve a can thats upside youve got a can thats upside down and the is the wrong youve got a can thats upside dow1andd the is the wrong youve got a can thats upside dow1and then is the wrong youve got a can thats upside dow1and then your is the wrong youve got a can thats upside dow1and then your cupboard ong youve got a can thats upside dow1and then your cupboard just way and then your cupboard just looks really chaotic. Looks really, really chaotic. But also just dont way to but also i just dont way to heat the beans is in an aluminium pan. Yeah. Yeah. If youre pouring it out of the pan anyway, the can into the pan anyway, youre to get all the youre going to get all the beans out. Theres always stuck in theres always a few stuck in the bottom. Yeah, but if you did it yeah, but not if you did it this way apparently. Yeah, but not if you did it thisbut apparently. Yeah, but not if you did it thisbut thisyarently. Yeah, but not if you did it thisbut this is ently. Yeah, but not if you did it thisbut this is what a spoon is but this is what a spoon is for. Seriously people not just spoon out, not my fingers. Then doing it wrong then im doing it the wrong way. Even going to ask. Im not even going to ask. Im not even going to ask. And unsalted as well. And unsalted butter as well. Im no, no, no, no. Im pleased. No, no, no, no. Claires salted person. Claires a salted butter person. Salted butter. Unsalted. Salted butter. Im unsalted. All right, so you are in the minority on this one. Its wrong. Extra salt butter. Extra salt on butter. Extra salt on butter. Apparently yes. Apparently they recommend too. Yes. Apparently they rec but|end too. Yes. Apparently they rec but heinz, too. Yes. Apparently they rec but heinz, you 00. Yes. Apparently they rec but heinz, you cant think of but heinz, you cant think of anything more simplistic to eat anyway. Anyway. Exactly. I think, mind you, teaching how to do beans on toast. Apparently, Pippa Middleton published middleton wants published advice on ice cubes and on how to make ice cubes and Nigella Lawson broadcast tips on how to butter toast. And delia smith did a whole recipe on how to boil an egg. She did. She yeah, she did. Yeah. I she did. She yeah, she did. Yeah. I mean, the basics are important. Im not sure that they carry it down like that. Lovely. Thank you both. Well lovely. Thank you both. Well see little bit later on. See you a little bit later on. And coming up, more on the two course, two hostages, of course, released hamas. The Prime Minister was in egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president , egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president , as egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president , as well egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president , as well as Palestinian Authority leaders, where he stressed the importance of intensifying dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the middle east. 48 hours ive been to three Different Countries and met six Different Countries and met six different leaders, including Prime Minister netanyahu and president abbas , to discuss the president abbas, to discuss the situation in in israel and gaza. Situation in in israel and gaza. This is a region in mourning. So first and foremost, i wanted to express my condolences to all those affected. And weve also made Good Progress on tangible areas like ensuring access for humanitarian aid to those who need it, but most importantly , need it, but most importantly, in a situation like this, its important to intensify dialogue because we all have a shared interest in peace and stability interest in peace and stability in region. In this region. Well, exactly two weeks ago, october the 7th, the world looked on in horror as the palestine Terror Group Hamas attacked israel, launching thousands of rockets from gaza. Thousands of rockets from gaza. And then gunmen also breached the security fencing designed to keep more than 2 million palestinians out of israel and killed and kidnapped men. Women children and soldiers. Children and soldiers. Well, since then, weve witnessed more innocent lives lost as israel retaliated, bombing gaza almost every day and night. And night. And this is how breakfast on gb news has reported on a war that has divided opinion and challenged World Leaders to somehow find a way to end the bloodshed. But sadly, were bloodshed. But sadly, were having to bring to you this breaking news that israel has declared war readiness. Thats what theyre calling it after surprise attacks from the gaza strip, the Palestinian Islamist group hamas launched its biggest attack on israel , with Israeli Attack on israel, with israeli officials reporting around 2500 rockets being fired from gaza, as well as sending fighters across the border. As videos and across the border. As videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media. So too, did images of armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. And civilians into captivity in gaza. Just after gaza. Just after the idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities. To destroy hamass capabilities. Within hours, airstrikes on gaza i the Israeli Military has said today that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight night. But video just coming into the newsroom in the last few minutes has shown a refugee camp has been hit. Obviously, many civilians there and before even this escalation, 80 of the population in gaza was relying on humanitarian aid. On humanitarian aid. Today , sorry. Today, sorry. Today, sorry. Yeah, sorry about that. Are you safe . Are you is there somewhere you can go now . Are you okay there . I yeah, im okay now, but i dont think we can consider any place safe in gaza. So im. Lets see. Im fine. Thank you , joe. Thank you, joe. Sam cofino, whos live for us in tel aviv. A lot of people, especially in southern israel , people who in southern israel, people who have had relatives killed or people who are held hostage inside gaza, they have simply said that they want to see gaza turn to rebels. They want to eradicate hamas, and they dont care how many people die. Care how many people die. Well, our main news this morning and the humanity korean crisis is escalating in gaza as israels large scale Bombing Campaign continues to flatten entire areas as well. Tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south right now after israel gave palestinian living there just 24 hours to leave. And one member of the otzma , and one member of the otzma, we are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might i emphasise , this is just the emphasise, this is just the beginning. Beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying our enemies have only begun paying the price. Rocketman paying the price. Rocketman well, at least 17 british citizens are missing or confirmed dead following hamas attacks last weekend. Just finally , i understand just finally, i understand that you knew many people whove been killed. Approximately how many of your friends were killed . I . I cant count it. I i dont know anyone who doesnt know someone who has hurt him or injured or kidnapped or dead. Well, good morning. Well, good morning. Welcome to the program. Its horrendous news to greet you with today in gazas deadliest day of the conflict , day yet of the conflict, hundreds are feared killed in an explosion at the al al araby hospital in gaza city overnight. Hospital in gaza city overnight. The Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson has said that hundreds died at the building after what, palestine officials said was an israeli airstrike. The temptation to turn ourselves into a shouting or recriminating society must be resisted. Society must be resisted. You cant look at what has happened here to your mothers, your fathers, your grandparents as sons, daughters, children , as sons, daughters, children, even babies, and not scream out for. Justice for. Justice but as he left tel aviv , but as he left tel aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night. Oh dear. Work. Oh dear. Its grim to see. Look, theres breaking news this morning on the rafah crossing, which is that southern Border Crossing between gaza and egypt. Lets head to tel aviv. Charlie peters has got the details. Charlie the us embassy has said in the last few moments that the rafah Border Crossing will open for humanitarian aid from 10 am. Local time. So in about 55 minutes, we will expect to see the first flow of aid from egypt into the gaza strip. This comes after an extensive diplomatic effort from International Leaders and the arab world to try and achieve some humanitarian aid for the people who have been forced to flee from the north to the south of the gaza strip on the orders of the gaza strip on the orders of the gaza strip on the orders of the idf as they continue that bombardment of the strip. Now, there have been several times now when the americans have said that Border Crossing will be that the Border Crossing will be opening imminently, so we shouldnt be too optimistic until actually see those until we actually see those first trucks through. But first trucks going through. But after several days of intense deliberation and diplomacy over the last few days, it now seems highly likely see that that crossing will be open. But at crossing will be open. But at this as we understand, this point, as we understand, just for humanitarian aid, there is on on what is no information on on what Foreign Nationals in the gaza strip can do to get out of the situation. So aid going in. Situation. So just aid going in. And well the from and well have the latest from 10 those reports be confirmed . Okay , charlie, back to you okay, charlie, back to you with all the latest. Very shortly. Thanks very much indeed i at the moment, it just looks as though its about aid going in, not about human beings coming out. Well, look , how do we move well, look, how do we move fonnard from this on on a wider front , lets talk to former front, lets talk to former israeli mp dr. Einat wilf and Sanctuary Foundation director dr. Krish kandiah. Thanks both for joining us this morning. And forjoining us this morning. And its all about dr. Wilf, how we find out some sort of solution to this, isnt it . Whatever the aims of the Israeli Government now, its a case of looking 12 months into the future , isnt months into the future, isnt it . And say, where do you want to be then in indeed , we need to to be then in indeed, we need to understand that that even though most palestinians are not part of the core of trained hamas murderers in that sense, palestinians are not hamas. There is a massive simple fee for hamas and for what they did and a sense that in what they did , they represented the did, they represented the palestine opinion. Cause this is why you see in britain , why you see in britain, everyones saying free, free palestine, which is the idea from the river to the sea of no state for the jews in any part of the land. This is a century long battle that the palestine lions have been waging. Initially for the jews not to have a state and then for them, for the state to be destroyed. They enjoy. Hamas enjoys as much they enjoy. Hamas enjoys as much support as the did in germany , support as the did in germany, even more as much as Imperial Japan did. So we need to understand that a future can only be built if the palestinian people, as a whole will finally cease, constantly creating from within them. Terror group after terror group in to order free free palestine , there has to be free palestine, there has to be a long term process , a global a long term process, a global process by which the world helps the palestinian people. Finally, the palestinian people. Finally, after a century , come to terms after a century, come to terms with the fact that they can develop a construct , with the fact that they can develop a construct, a vision of having a state for themselves and the west bank and gaza next to israel. But finally cease from having the vision of having a state instead of israel , or a state instead of israel, or most importantly, that israel should not exist. This is the ideological basis that created the terror groups that massacred the terror groups that massacred the israeli athletes in the munich olympics. This is the ideology that created the terrorist groups in fatah over the decades. This is the ideal that creates hamas today , were that creates hamas today, were not seeing even one palestine in demonstration and one lone person stand with a sign and saying not in my name. This is not what i want. All we see is people in gaza when they thought that hamas has broken in and they just heard about all the atrocities, what we saw was euphoria, the sense that finally, yes , they will finally, yes, they will palestine will be free and the state of israel will be gone. Thats what were seeing in the arab world. Thats what were seeing in the demonstrations in new york and london and berlin. Were seeing that sense that their goal is near. So we need to understand that this is the palestinian cause. Its not about any of the things that westerners have ever projected on it. It has always been singularly devoted to a destructive idea that the jewish state should not exist. And only state should not exist. And only when the palestinians , as when the palestinians, as a people, just like the germans, are no longer , just like the are no longer, just like the japanese. No longer are the people of Imperial Japan. Only when the people all as a whole transform themselves away from a destroyed , productive cause to a destroyed, productive cause to a constructive cause. Will we finally have peace . Dr. Kandiah . Is that how you dr. Kandiah . Is that how you see the long term future . I mean, you represent a charity that helps refugees is so thinking of the human beings on all sides is that how you see a long Term Solution in. Thank you, anna. I think its very difficult to see a long Term Solution. I to see a long Term Solution. I see it at the moment just a terrible humanitarian disaster. What hamas did in israel is absolutely inexcusable , evil, absolutely inexcusable, evil, however terrible the situation may be in gaza , its never may be in gaza, its never appropriate to murder and kidnap women and children. And as the women and children. And as the news unfolds this week, it just how terrible those atrocities were. I can fully understand the anger thats coming out of israel. But the reaction to this israel. But the reaction to this terrible attack has really impacted civilians most of all. And i think back to when i was a child, i grew up in brighton and the ira bombed a Brighton Hotel and the conservative Party Conference was there. The westminster government did not then go and bomb belfast, even though the ira were embedded amongst the civilian population. Amongst the civilian population. It wasnt appropriate to do collective punishment. We didnt order belfast to evacuate. Imagine trying to get millions of people out of belfast at 24 hours notice. We didnt turn off the water or the electricity. So the water or the electricity. So my fear is that civilians are carrying the weight of this. There is no way to pull the palestinian population. Theyve not had a proper election. So to not had a proper election. Soto say that palestinians are for hamas i think is unfair to think about it this way. Imagine that you have £220 notes in your wallet and one of them has a star of david on and the other has a palestinian flag on which which £20 note is more valuable. Which £20 note is more valuable. Its a stupid question. Every £20 note has the same value every human life has the same value. In palestine right now in value. In palestine right now in gaza, they estimate 40 of the population are children. Thats somewhere in the region of 800,000 children who dont currently have access to water and electricity and food. And i and electricity and food. And i think we need to be asking the world to step up and to continue arguing for a humanitarian solution. We need that rafah border open as soon as possible for aid to come in. Of course, we dont want it to go to hamas, but we want it to go to civilians. But i think we also need a way for people to get out. Its a very small area thats been bombed continually and theres no way for people to escape. Exit route, escape. Theres no exit route, so theyre stuck. Theyre facing this devastation. And dr. Wilf, this devastation. And dr. Wilf, look, doctor krrish makes some some very valid points there. The argument i would put to you is, as you say , what you you is, as you say, what you would like the future to look like for and these people to stop wanting the absolute destruction of israel as a state and as a nation in the sense that as as as chris called it, sort of collective punishment , sort of collective punishment, isnt there a real danger here that what youre actually doing is not changing the mindset of innocent palestinians to be accepting of israel , but you accepting of israel, but you stand at least the chance of radicalising them against you. Radicalising them against you. So first, the parallel to understand the enormity of the threat, the enormity of the brutality, the hatred is not 1 1 irish attack for nothing. The only way to understand it is to think about germany, to think about Imperial Japan , entire about Imperial Japan, entire societies mobilised for the purpose of war, destruction, brutality and the worst atrocities that humans can inflict on the other. Thats what were facing. Were not what were facing. Were not facing anything less than that. Facing anything less than that. Now. One of the biggest problems in the way that people have thought about this issue for century is the inversion of cause and effect. The palestinian vision that the jewish people have no right to self determination, to be free people in any borders , in any people in any borders, in any part of the land has not been ever affected. But what by what ever affected. But what by what israel did, because it always was about what israel was the sovereign state of a free jewish people. So we would like to people. So we would like to think that if we do this or that, something will change. The thing that has few called the palestinian vision for over a century that israel is temporary, that the jews will go is first of all, the new miracle ovennhelming ratio of 50 to 1 of arabs, to jews in the region and their sense that they only need to wait us out. One, three, five generations and that with enough violence. Okay okay. Thats the line. That line is gone. But ill tell you what, we are running over, so well leave it there. But thank you both for your thoughts on that. You both for your thoughts on that. I find you both for your thoughts on that. I find it very you both for your thoughts on that. I find it very interesting that. I find it very interesting because i think Krish Kandiah makes some very valid points. But a lot of people i think, over here would sort of sympathise with, but its when you hear that sort of i, i was going to say entrenched issues that lived jewish view to of saying, well, you know, they , saying, well, you know, they, theyre trying to wipe us out entirely. Theres a whole host entirely. Theres a whole host of arguments here. Its about settlements on the west bank and its about the sheer geography of the place. I mean, israel seems to be surrounded by countries that have terrorist groups determined to do them down. I mean, the problem is, you could argue it through. That must be a terrible way to live. Well, yeah, but you could argue the point that weve been arguing since 1948, arguing for. Well since 1948, couldnt you, on this one . But its sort of put its about how you sort of put that you and move that behind you and move fonnard. Theres certainly a very say , very valid viewpoint to say, look, got to stop wanting look, youve got to stop wanting the total eradication of israel or of each other because israel would because i mean, israel wants the total eradication of hamas. Yes, but hamas isnt isnt palestinian isnt palestinian. Thats thats the difference. They would argue difference. They would argue that theyre not trying to get rid of a people. Theyre not trying to get rid of a terrorist group. Yeah, but i mean , there are yeah, but i mean, there are plenty of young jews whove been campaigning with palestine indians to say calling for peace i yeah. And but as as dr. Wilf said, have there been any palestinians saying not in our name, but with the murderous attacks on israel . And i look, not that im aware of, there must be some out there. There must be yes, there must be. Anyway, the big news this morning is that we have heard that that crossing in rafah, thats the one between israel and egypt, is going to be opened from ten oclock their time, which is eight oclock hours, isnt it . Thats going to be open. But at the moment, as far as we know, its only one way. Its to let out much needed goods in to help those starving on the other side of the border. As far as we know, its not to let anyone from inside out, but it is a step. Its a step. Yeah its an important move. Will that affect whats to going happen today here in london . Well, probably not. Thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators will take to the streets of the capital today. Concerns for the police, of course, are having to really ramp up security amid fears that there could be some violence, that tensions could be that high because, of course, there were protests last saturday and last saturday, 15 people were arrested on suspicion of offences as over 1000 officers were deployed to the march and the home secretary has vowed to crack down on anyone seen publicly supporting hamas because they are by our own rules, a terrorist organisation. Organisation. So lets cross live now to our Political Correspondent olivia utley. Hi, olivia. What olivia utley. Hi, olivia. What do you know of the protest thats going to happen today . And do we know how the police are going to manage it . Hello. Yes this is a huge challenge for the police today. We are expecting to see over 1000 Police Officers, possibly even more Police Officers than there were last week. And the police have actually clamped down a little bit on how much freedom to move these protesters are going to have. Theyve been told that they have to stick to the official protest protest route anyone found deviating route and anyone found deviating from that route is under is under threat of being arrested. The real difficulty for the police today is whether or not they should allow the chant from they should allow the chant from the to river the sea. Palestine will be free, as youve heard there, Suella Braverman, the home secretary, has asked Police Officers, has asked the met to crack down on anti semitic slogans and to a lot of people in the uk and beyond, from the river to the sea, palestine will be free. Is a call for the destruction of israel and is therefore anti semitic. On this therefore anti semitic. On this occasion, the met has said that it will allow pro palestinian chanters to protesters to make that chant as long as theyre not doing it in a threatening way , i. E. Around a Jewish School way, i. E. Around a Jewish School , around the Israeli Embassy , around the Israeli Embassy, etcetera. But if they are just chanting it on the on the march itself, they wont be arrested for that alone. Now, that is a pretty controversial decision among british jews who do see that as anti semitic slogan in itself. But its just one of the many very, very difficult diplomatic challenges that the met is going to face today while policing , theres pretty policing, theres pretty widespread and wide reaching rally. Rally. Yeah. Okay, olivia, thanks very much indeed. Back with you a little bit later on. I can eyes right in the face of what Suella Braverman said, though, didnt it . Well, he said its racist and it shouldnt be chanted. Yes , yes. Yes, yes. Yes, yes. Shes the home secretary in charge of the police. I would and i would agree, because it does call. That means the of israel. The total destruction of israel. Which. But how do you police what people are chanting on a march like that . I think its almost impossible able to police that, isnt it, to start arresting people for that. Yes. Falls under , then it starts to falls under, then it starts to fall under free speech and all this sort of thing. It does. Yeah yeah. But one doesnt have the free speech in this country. The free speech. Right to chant racist things to say racist things. No. On a march. And if Suella Braverman march. And if Suella Braverman is of the view that that is a racist chant, but very difficult to police. Yeah. Yeah. Without making things worse. Without making things worse. Well, this is it. So you just let it slide because othennise youre going to have even bigger problems. Just an problems. Its an awful just an awful situation. Well be going to be across it all today. Of course, you expect , course, as you would expect, were also going to be across the situation for the weather situation for you because another red warning thats danger to life has been brought into force today when it comes to weather. And thats particular for places like the east coast of scotland. Storm babet it is an awful situation. Babet it is an awful situation. So lets get the full details for you now with alex. Good morning. Im alex deakin. This is your latest weather update from the met office for gb news the rain has returned to parts of eastern scotland through the night and will continue for most of the day. We do have a met office. Red weather warning place for red weather warning in place for parts aberdeenshire and angus parts of aberdeenshire and angus and broader amber warning area and a broader amber warning area across eastern and northern scotland. The rain continues to feed in here, as you can see with the winds bringing in the moisture from the north sea. Elsewhere, its a drier day for northeast england of northeast england and parts of wales. Showers here, wales. Still a few showers here, but showers likely across but heavy showers likely across the england with the south east of england with some winds. Also a bit of some gusty winds. Also a bit of brightness in the south could reach temperatures up to 15 or 16, certainly feels lot 16, but certainly feels a lot colder with that heavy and persistent expected to persistent rain expected to bnng persistent rain expected to bring further flooding parts bring further flooding to parts of and northern scotland of eastern and northern scotland through the and even well through the day. And even well into the night. It does show signs easing off during the signs of easing off during the evening. Therell be some showers elsewhere, but therell be some clearer spells as well. And the winds wont be quite so strong either for many through the night. Temperatures likely to dip into single figures, to dip down into single figures, well down into single figures in some spots. Generally, some rural spots. Generally, tomorrow offers a bit of respite. It wont be completely dry and therell still be some rain, over rain, particularly over the northern and in the Northern Isles and even in the worst affected areas, there will still a few showers on still be a few showers on sunday. But generally it looks like wont be like the weather wont be anything as anything like as bad, not as intense or as persistent the rainfall. And for its rainfall. And for many its a fine, bright day tomorrow with some decent spells of sunshine and climbing and temperatures climbing into the high teens. But the mid or even high teens. But not very good news, im afraid. For those of you who thought it was all over because storm babet really isnt anyway , were babet really isnt anyway, were going to be learning in the next few minutes how you can tell a fake news from a real one. Fake news story from a real one. The futurist andrew eborn will be joining us in the studio again debunk some more myths. Again to debunk some more myths. This is gb news. It is 730. Good morning to you. This is breakfast with stephen and anne. Now, its interesting to talk about this particular subject at the moment because obviously there is such a lot of news about the and what do you about the war and what do you believe coming from where at the moment, how do you get your news . Well, thankfully, youre doing the sensible thing and watching lot of people watching us, but a lot of people get their in different get their news in very different ways and misinformation has spread like mad fire online following the hamas attack on israel two weeks ago. Now, two weeks. And of course, both sides continue to battle away and both sides have their point of view and well, many social media users are sharing misleading or baseless claims. Some of them will be doing it deliberately. Some wont necessarily know that what theyre sharing isnt right, including mis captioned imagery altered documents. And of course, it all changes public perception, but it may be absolute nonsense. So were joined by broadcaster laura and futurist andrew eborn , who knows all andrew eborn, who knows all about this sort of thing. And it is particularly pertinent at the moment to be looking at this. Oh, absolutely. Theres lots of horrendous images which coming out images which are coming out which images, in which are true images, but in amongst theres all amongst all of that theres all sorts fake images from sorts of fake images from Computer Generated images to wrongly attributed wrongly dates and so on. And so forth. And they always say that the First Casualty in a war is the truth. And a lie will go halfway around the world before the truth gets its boots on. Thats what they say. And what thought is ive say. And what i thought is ive been trawling every single day. There lots of these there are lots of these different there are different videos and there are literally were different videos and there are lite million were different videos and there are lite million after were different videos and there are lite million after the were different videos and there are lite million after the firstvere 50 million after the first weekend videos about the conflict. Ive got a few conflict. And ive got a few examples pulled up. Examples which ive pulled up. I mean, first one is he said, mean, the first one is he said, breaking militants started breaking hamas militants started a new airstrike parts of a new airstrike on parts of israel and this was fake. And i think weve got the video, which i can show you here. But lot i can show you here. But a lot of this sort of stuff, you see these rockets being shown fired into the air. Theyve also got basically helicopters being shot out it all looks out of the sky. And it all looks terribly realistic. I was going to say, well, this itself could be real. Absolutely. Absolutely. And is the interesting and this is the interesting thing. But tell what, thing. But ill tell you what, its fake. Actually from a its fake. Its actually from a and basically generated looked and i basically generated looked back where could have come back at where it could have come from actually from from and it actually came from a computer can you believe . Computer game. Can you believe . Oh, really . Yeah. So its a computer game its what it computer game and its what it is. Arma three by is. Its called arma three by a Czech Company called bohemian interactive. So Bohemia Interactive. So Bohemia Interactive. So Bohemia Interactive produced this. And interactive produced this. And so often youre going to find this imagery is long advanced since the days of pong when you used to get the individual pixels, it is now incredibly realistic. And i did the very first computer game estimate video a game. Video us of a game. And thats why it looks and so thats why it looks very impressive. Absolutely frightening. It frightening. Yeah. But has it been delivered . Been mis captioned delivered . Totally, because well, totally, because theyve this the theyve said that this is the attack by by gaza , by hamas attack by by gaza, by hamas against the israel. And so whats happened is and theyve used a lot of this theyve had this sort of stuff. So when you look at this and that was the sort of reports, they said, look, this is whats going on at the moment. Its all horrendous. And also similar and youve got also similar images being shot images of helicopters being shot out the sky. Whats out of the sky. And whats happening now, game footage is so you can get so realistic. Look, you can get completely sort completely confused on that sort of gamers, what they of stuff. And gamers, what they do, basically record their do, they basically record their footage you can footage and thats how you can tell check the check tell just check the date, check whos posted and so whos actually posted it and so on. So forth. Weve also had on. And so forth. Weve also had another example of whats happened where youve got sort of the of fireworks going on in the sky. I think weve got that sort of as well, which we can of video as well, which we can show here we go. So show you. Yeah, here we go. So if a look at this sort if you have a look at this sort of thing, which is a game, fake news, what was is not gaza news, what this was is not gaza at all, but got 1. 2 million at all, but it got 1. 2 million views and its a video from 2020 when an algerian Football Club won can believe won the league. Can you believe it . Again, have used it . And again, people have used that purposed video. They saying . That purposed video. Its they saying . That purposed video. Its gazans they saying . That purposed video. Its gazans imey saying . That purposed video. Its gazans in gaza |ying . That purposed video. Its gazans in gaza saying. That its gazans in gaza saying. Exactly. Theyre sort of turning around and saying, oh, theyre celebrating this sort of stuff. This is being stuff. So all of this is being peddled. And the problem is people dont check what happens. And tell a lie often and so you tell a lie often enough. It becomes truth. Enough. It becomes the truth. You is the issue. You see, this is the issue. And i think a lot of it is a youth issue, too, isnt it . Because, i mean, im not because, i mean, i mean, im not quite 50 and i wouldnt quite 50 yet and i wouldnt i would not go social for would not go onto social for media news. But if young people view differently and they view it all differently and they just seem to accept that what theyre shown. Yeah, well, mark twain originally said you if twain originally said if you if you read the newspaper, you dont read the newspaper, youreyou read it, youre if you read it, youre misinformed. Well, never has it been more we living been more true. We are living in a diseased information age. A very diseased information age. And i think what happens the last talked to you about last time i talked to you about children cages and it turned children in cages and it turned out that wasnt true, out that that wasnt true, footage all. But theres footage at all. But theres another example another horrendous example and which the moment, which youve got at the moment, which youve got at the moment, which we can show you. Which i think we can show you. And originally sort of and this this originally sort of captioned that it was a kidnapped jewish girl. She was taken and the caption taken to gaza. And the caption reads, if you look at this, a lost girl and shes tiny and when i first saw this, the hairs on my arm stood up because it looks absolutely horrendous. And they say, look, this is what were fighting against. So people that theyve people have posted that theyve been a million been viewed more than a million times. What happened and times. And what happened and again, i checked all of this. Its basically its not that at all. It was actually footage from 8th august before from the 8th of august before before conflict even before the conflict even started. Theres no evidence started. And theres no evidence that shed been kidnapped at all, no evidence that its a terrorist and so on and so forth. But its deliberately playing on the heartstrings in the cage children. People do this. People do this. I tell you exactly well, i tell you exactly that. Propaganda, it . That. Its propaganda, isnt it . Youre feeding the lies to stir up and basically the absolute hatred, if you like, for the other side. That is whats other side. That is whats happening with propaganda and the enemy. Work on that the enemy. And you work on that sort of basis. And they also but it work about the it doesnt just work about the conflict. In conflict. They try and bring in other as well. So theres other people as well. So theres a claim that video shows qatars emir cut emir whos threatening to cut off the worlds gas. Off the worlds natural gas. I look out. I think weve got look that out. I think weve got that one as well. You can see this. So this is a big conference and this is a big conference. And what they say, look, emir is announcing something is standing announcing something at what they basically said and what they basically said is that hes announced that hes going stop supply, going to stop the gas supply, the gas supply, the worlds natural gas supply, if doesnt stop bombing if israel doesnt stop bombing gaza. Fact the gaza. Well, the fact of the matter is a complete matter is thats a complete false, because this particular video the forum video comes from the doha forum in 2017. And again , whats in 2017. And again, whats happening is theyre trying to bnngin happening is theyre trying to bring in all these third parties. And so and so forth. Parties. And so on and so forth. And youve had a similar thing with ukraine. Theyre turning around ukraine is around and saying ukraine is supplying that supplying weapons to gaza, that you shouldnt be supporting ukraine. Its working on that ukraine. So its working on that sort of principle. Right. Look, on the all right. So look, on the basis that people arent going to do what done and do to do what youve done and do sort trace it back, traces sort of trace it back, traces and all the rest of it. But if you can do it, the Tech Companies can do it. Absolutely. So why arent they taking. And they should do and there are tools there. And last time i talk about this, reverse image searches , which really searches, which is really simple. Can do in simple. So what you can do in google it, everybody google and you try it, everybody try home, take take try it at home, take take a picture, a screengrab of something into google something and put it into google image and it will tell image search and it will tell you where that image first appeared. Also appeared. I would also say to everybody, question everybody, look, question everything, because the reality is in a sea of is were drowning in a sea of misinformation. So the video, the video you saw of the the video clip you saw of the little tiny girl who you could you could look at that and say, this is a refugee in somebody whos lost their parents in a in a recent bombing attack. Sympathy immediately and your sympathy immediately goes out because looks like goes out because she looks like a lost little girl. So a little lost little girl. So you can put image , can you. You can put that image, can you. Yes. Into what did you say . So its Googles Google image search, google image search. You a screen, of so you take a screen, grab of that tell you where that and it will tell you where that and it will tell you where that first appeared. Oh that video first appeared. Oh i mean, that could be your uncle. It probably was or it and it probably was or it probably was. Was no evidence. The there was no evidence. The other thing, there are lots of fact things. I Fact Checking things. What i love is that it feels love about this is that it feels as though its a real service and waking up to and its depressing waking up to the and there are the news every day and there are horrendous images coming horrendous real images coming out. Need to is to out. What we need to do is to stop misinformation and so stop the misinformation and so on and so forth. So it feels like a Public Service thing. Id say every wake up and look say every day i wake up and look at this sort stuff, look at at this sort of stuff, look at the videos, try and fact check it. Go back on a sort it. And if you go back on a sort of lighter note, you might remember weve got the picture of pope. You remember of the pope. Do you remember that happened i, i that that happened on the i, i think that to our think i said that to our production as well. Production people as well. Ive never that. Thats what never seen that. Thats what i thought. We always spoke about it, i thought send it in today. So this was just if youre listening on the radio, this is the pope standing there the pope francis standing there in a big white puffer in a great big white puffer jacket. Almost looks an astronaut. Does. Oh, he does. Oh, he does. Glorious. I always its glorious. And i always say the devil wears prada, but the prefers buffer. So. The pope prefers a buffer. So. So that space. But so you work on that space. But it a generated some it was a ai generated and some of clues as to how you can of the clues as to how you can work that out. Theyre not very good ai generated images good on al generated images about and about things like fingers. And so but weve so on and so forth. But weve also another example also got another example with trump now, trump being arrested now, its not from truth, but not too far from the truth, but this was couple of the photos. This was a couple of the photos. If can just those photos this was a couple of the photos. If well. 1 just those photos this was a couple of the photos. If well. 1juthis those photos this was a couple of the photos. If well. 1juthis is those photos this was a couple of the photos. If well. 1juthis is trump. Photos this was a couple of the photos. If well. 1juthis is trump. Soytos as well. So this is trump. So you have a look here. Yeah. Again fake. Would again its fake. I would emphasise youve got emphasise that. But youve got trump middle, but you trump in the middle, but you can see of faces are see that some of the faces are a bit blurry. His is little see that some of the faces are a bit blurry. So; is little see that some of the faces are a bit blurry. So whats little see that some of the faces are a bit blurry. So whats happening is is not perfect is the fake image is not perfect yet. Get better. And yet. It will get better. And weve one well weve got another one as well of trump you can trump as well. You can you can have look. Have a look. I mean, that was trump being manhandled police, it manhandled by police, by the it looks he is again. He is and here he is again. He is again arrested. And here he is again. He is aga but arrested. And here he is again. He is aga but canested. And here he is again. He is aga but can telli. And here he is again. He is aga but can tell thats fake but you can tell thats fake because if you look at the neck, for there are tiny details. Lightings all wrong. Details. The lightings all wrong. Details. The lightingis all wrong. Details. The lightingis allnrong. Details. The lightingis all wrong as well. So question have so question if you have a look sort of side. Look at that sort of side. Whats are whats interesting, there are different is being different ways that al is being used, Artificial Intelligence can just been can be used to. Ive just been down festival down in cannes. The tv festival where drama where i was presenting the drama awards. Thank awards. I have you know, i thank you, we were talking about you, but we were talking about artificial which you, but we were talking about arfrontl which you, but we were talking about arfrontl centre which you, but we were talking about arfrontl centre of which you, but we were talking about arfrontl centre of the ch is front and centre of the Actors Centre actors strike, front and centre of the writers strike, because actors strike, front and centre of the recreate strike, because actors strike, front and centre of the recreate anything cause it can recreate anything and the worrying it can recreate anything and the worryiis| it can recreate anything and the worryiis audio, because audio is thing is audio, because audio is almost impossible to tell all what could have happened. And theres all sorts of things which are elections being rigged. Youve had leaders of all parties working all sides of the parties working on images as i say on that basis. Images as i say in you can tell look for in videos you can tell look for the discrepancies and the little discrepancies and every time that we do this, we try and you extra tips and examples. Lovely stuff. Andrew weve got to leave it there, but good to much indeed. Fascinating frightening. Fascinating but frightening. Fascinating but frightening. Actually. It is terrifying, actually. Coming up for you, art coming up for you, an art installation is up in tel aviv to remember the hostage is held by hamas on shabbat , the jewish by hamas on shabbat, the jewish day of rest. Well talk about that and more in headline makers in a moment. Its 744. Lets go through some of the days headlines with our senior political commentator, nigel nelson and former conservative adviser claire pearsall. Good morning to you pearsall. Good morning to you both. Nigel, lets kick off with both. Nigel, lets kick off with it. Its a video from twitter or showing this sort of insular art installation in tel aviv. Yeah, which is actually extremely moving that that it basically shows a table with 200 empty seats, two to symbolise the hostages that are being kept in kept by hamas in gaza. The hostages that are being kept in kept by hamas in gaza. And in kept by hamas in gaza. And obviously its good news that the American Mother and daughter, judith rhiannon and natalie, who was 17, have been released. Thats a start in the right direction. But when you look at Something Like this , as look at Something Like this, as you can see just the sheer scope of it, what with 200 people, people there and this is kind of i think its a more moving thing equivalent to the old yellow fibbons equivalent to the old yellow ribbons that we used to put out for hostages. Yeah yeah. Its interesting, isnt it, to hundred . Its just a number. You actually sort of need to see it in that. When you see it like that. When you see it like that. It is. When you see it like that. Actually, it is. When you see it like that. Actually, iveis. When you see it like that. Actually, ive seen a different video of the same installation where theyd actually along installation where theyd actu everything, along installation where theyd actu everything, i along installation where theyd actueverything, i thought,| and everything, and i thought, thats thats what should happen on. These people should on shabbat. These people should be , celebrating be together, celebrating together and have not been able together and have not been able to do so. Every, every chair youre seeing there long, long row , every chair represents row, every chair represents somebody who hopefully is still alive and needs to be released. Alive and needs to be released. It is quite beautiful that you have all of them on the one table rather than sort of separate tables. So its separate tables. So its everybody coming together. And i think its always the symbolism behind kind of behind these kind of installations, which is the really poignant part. And as it is awful and nobody can say anything other than that, but that level of hope that you still have to have is quite beautiful. You know, i was also moved when President Biden actually spoke to the two who have been released overnight. But the released overnight. But the mother and daughter who are american he said american citizens. And he said the white house will help you in any way we can through your recovery how do you recovery because how do you recovery because how do you recover something must have recover from something must have been unutterably terrifying, been so unutterably terrifying, not knowing whether they were going to live or die or what was ever going to happen them. Ever going to happen to them. Theyve been and quite what theyve been through, we dont that is through, we dont during that is , well, you will have ptsd immediately after something, after that. After Something Like that. And dont know how youd and i dont know how youd ever really get over that, something youd live with. Claire mail meanwhile, claire in the mail and it claims the bbc is going to change its language in relation to this. Well, yes. So without issuing well, yes. So without issuing any sort of apology, theyve done this very, very quietly. Done this very, very quietly. And the bbc has dropped the use of the word militants when it is referring to hamas and will now call them a proscribed terrorist organisation nation. So this has taken a two weeks terrorist that would do that would be an accurate phrase also. Yes. But theyre not doing that. Theyre saying proscribed. Saying a proscribed theyre saying a proscribed terrorist. Making the terrorist. So theyre making the point its not us. Point that its not us. Bbc saying they are the bbc saying they are terrorist , but we acknowledge terrorist, but we acknowledge now. Now. Yes, thats basically it. Yes, thats basically it. Yes, thats basically it. Yes. Yes. Yes. This use of language isnt it . And you just sort of think we then it is so clear cut, we know there are a proscribed terrorist organisation. We get terrorist organisation. We get that. We understand that Everybody Knows and Everybody Knows that. And what they have carried out a terrorist atrocities and its taken the bbc two weeks and a lot of people moaning at them for them to change their language theyve done it language and theyve done it very a kind of very quietly. And its a kind of sorry , not sorry method. Sorry, not sorry method. And they out very long they put out this very long explanation as as to why they do these things when realistically i just want the i think people just want the news and they just want these words to be used and words to be out there that are correct. It needs to be is, and what it needs to be is, is the is the bbcs editorial guidelines where this comes from, really does need to be reviewed because the argument is that terrorists terrorist is a loaded word in the same way that Freedom Fighter would be a loaded word if you use that now in certain situations , its not in certain situations, its not obvious whether somebody is a terrorist or or whatever. So the editorial guideline is there for a good reason. But once youve actually, as claire just said, its clear cut. That is an act its clear cut. That is an act of terror. Surely the perpetrators are terrorists. Perpetrators are terrorists. It really isnt difficult. It really isnt difficult. Theyve wrapped themselves up in unnecessary red tape with this one. Yeah okay. Lets change. Lets change tack. Should we . And back to the tamworth by election and why, you may ask . Lets have a look at this. This is a this is a clip i think of jane cooper who is the, the, the conservative candidate s wife, the last chance to learn. Andy cooper , the next mp for andy cooper, the next mp for tamworth. He laughs. Andy cooper, the next mp for tamworth. He laughs. But im tamworth. He laughs. But im serious. I only have a back winners anyway. Now you see him as andy cooper. Next time as mp andy right . Yeah, if you say so. There if you say so. Ill take that any day. And i always get what i want. So im that kind of a girl. Ooh exactly. A girl. Ooh exactly. I think that probably goes down as the wisest video of the year and obviously obviously she put out on her social media platform. Did she . Yes before the result . Before the result when the result came in. Oh, so i think the message to everybody is just dont do things like that. Theres no point trying to prejudge something or being triumphalist before hand because its all going to it could all backfire on you as it did in this case. I have to say , not this case. I have to say, not impressed. Impressed. Im really not impressed with that. Im really not impressed with that. Just by he didnt say that. Just by he didnt say anything, but i thought she was. Anything, but i thought she was. Im glad shes not an mps wife , im glad shes not an mps wife, but do you know what i mean . Thats but thats the really important. If you are standing for election , then you are in the election, then you are in the pubuc election, then you are in the public eye and you are under scrutiny. But equally so are your family and you just have to behave and not go around pretending that youre in love island or youre doing an audition tape for a talent show. Its really unseemly. Im sorry. Its really unseemly. Im sorry. This is a democratic process. So the whole i get what i get, what i want. Yeah , yeah. No, no. Yeah, yeah. No, no. Yeah, yeah. No, no. Everything about it is a no no. That even if hed won, in fact, it would have been a no no because there would have been saying, oh, it was the wife that because there would have been sayiitj, oh, it was the wife that because there would have been sayiit. Oh, it was the wife that did it. Yeah. And i just think there needs to little of needs to be a little bit of understanding that is understanding that this is a democratic process. This is really important. Please dont treat as some kind of being treat it as some kind of being a member of parliament surely demands a certain demands of you a certain dignity, just from you, but dignity, notjust from you, but from your family. It absolutely does. And is its does. And it is a its a privilege to be able to serve a community. Whether you are a pansh community. Whether you are a parish councillor , whether you parish councillor, whether you are an mp, it is an absolute privilege and that is your job and you dont go around treating it as if youve just been to the pub and youre walking down the street bit worse for street a little bit worse for wear, is how came across. And youre making the assumption going assumption youre to going win. And arrogance always and i think arrogance always plays this, you plays a part in this, and you can about something. Plays a part in this, and you can be about something. Plays a part in this, and you can be positive it something. Plays a part in this, and you can be positive aboutething. You can be positive about something, butjust dont you can be positive about something, but just dont put it out there in that manner. It justitit out there in that manner. It just it it was across as arrogant it did. And families need to step back a little bit. When clare was an elected representative, id always walk three behind her, rather three steps behind her, rather like philip. Like prince philip. Well, should that anyway. Now ill tell you what. Now ill tell you what. Now ill tell you what. Now ill tell you what. No wonder Andrew Cooper ran off the stage then. Yes , running away, clearly yes, running away, clearly hiding from mrs. Cooper. Should think. Clare . Yeah i should think. Clare . Yeah blue shirts and chinos are that this . I loved this story. This is the. This is the Student Union in Cardiff University has banned me men from turning up in chinos and blue shirts because they say that it attracts a bad level of behaviour here within the Student Union. I thought it was quite a smart way to dress that. Apparently theyre all the sort of rugby characters. Its normally associated with with rugby and other sports clubs. This is almost a sort of informal uniform of a beige pair of chinos, blue shirt and sometimes a tie indicating which Sporting Club they come from. But also ive found this is anecdotal, a number of Young Conservatives also rock around in the same kind of outfit so they could be mistaken. Im sure they could be mistaken. Im sure their behaviour is not anywhere of hooray henrys then or something. Oh yes, of badly something. Oh yes, of badly behaved individuals in a Student Union. And apparently since they have banned the outfit , have banned the outfit, behaviour has improved. Now im behaviour has improved. Now im not convinced that its anything to do with a pair of chinos and a blue shirt. It is just to do with bad behaviour, bad with bad behaviour, the bad behaviour. Wonder if you with bad behaviour, the bad behav get. Wonder if you with bad behaviour, the bad behav get around wonder if you with bad behaviour, the bad behav get around the der if you with bad behaviour, the bad behav get around the banf you with bad behaviour, the bad behav get around the ban byyu could get around the ban by sort of wearing shirt of wearing a pink shirt with your or something your chinos or Something Like that, looking even more like a tory member. Okay, ill avoid that one. So okay, ill avoid that one. So okay, ill avoid that one. Would that be even worse . Exactly better about viagra wed better talk about viagra. Nigel. Well, yeah. This is a well, indeed, yeah. This is a great reason to take it as well. Just passing it over to claire, please. Please. Please. Its too early in the morning for this anyway. Apparently. Apparently there is a study in new york has discovered that taking viagra cuts your risk of alzheimers by 60. That it blocks a particular enzyme in the brain. And it was a study of 27,000 people over 65 seconds. So its obviously quite a thousand people. Thats a big study then. Yeah thats a big study then. Yeah which is obviously quite, quite a serious study. The only thing about it is that as the sun, as the sun points out at the end, theres another study from michigan which says that regular sex also protects you against dementia. So its a bit against dementia. So its a bit difficult to know whether its the viagra or the regular sex. Yes. Yes. But what it would be on both cases surely is just about blood flow, isnt it . Because thats what viagra is all about, isnt it . It is, basically. Yeah it is, basically. Yeah originally it wasnt brought out as any sort of a sex ed medication. Medication. No, it was something to do with blood flow. But this blocks an enzyme. An blocking. Its its an enzyme blocking. Its not blood flow. No, but not about blood flow. No, but nigel, i thought she was a professional. Professional. I did. I did. But i did. I did. But hang on. Hang on. Does having regular sex block the same enzyme . The same enzyme . I dont know. I dont know. I dont know. More Research Needs to be done on this. More research needed. I mean, more research needed. I mean, i actually think that really is fascinating because anything in the fight against alzheimers, even at the were even though at the moment were giggling about the fact that its there may be its viagra, there may be something important. Something really important. Yeah, it a serious thing yeah, it is a serious thing to deal with. Yes. Yes. Yes. It says you smiling. It says you smiling. It says you smiling. But the reality is if because it can be quite cheap actually sildenafil or whatever the genencis sildenafil or whatever the generic is and that were all good and we just be getting it 65 now heres your regular viagra and just take that every day and take it along with your statins and your and Everything Else. I mean, its going to be wandering around rattling. Yes, the serious message is that it is great if it does help with alzheimers, which is a really, really hideous way to live. So anything that does that, but it just shows also that these drugs that come out on the market have more than one use. Itll be the itll be the only regular pill men are willing that age. Willing to take at that age. Thank you both. Catch up thank you both. Well catch up with you a little bit later on. Oh, dear me. All the top stories heading your way in just a moment. Will finally open. Thats will finally open. Thats according to the us embassy , according to the us embassy, with desperately needed aid making its way to civilians in the besieged strip. Thats according to the us embassy and of course, raise hopes that vital aid will be able to reach people in desperate need. So lets cross live now to tel aviv where our reporter Charlie Peters has the latest on that and what is the very latest news for us, charlie . Well, the embassy said in a statement that the crossing should open at 10 am. So just two minutes ago, we will be checking in after we come off air to see if there are any reports of trucks crossing in from egypt into gaza, but also Foreign Nationals being allowed to exit, in particular us nationals because the us embassy has been coordinating this operation so closely with its humanitarian diplomacy. But the embassy said it would be a potential chaotic and disorderly environment, which one feels is true as a grave understatement because there has been absolute chaos in that area as so many people have fled from the north to the south and various embassies with their nationals inside the gaza strip have told them to move to that crossing for several days. The best part of two weeks now, people have been urged to move in that direction amid the bombardments in the north, but also in the south. The idf has targeted hamas capabilities or what it describes as hamas capabilities. In younis khan , that city very in younis khan, that city very close to the rafah crossing. So well wait for further updates of any aid coming in. Trucks have been gathering on the egyptian side now for well over a week. The uns chief was there yesterday trying to rally support for the entry of humanitarian aid , vital aid that humanitarian aid, vital aid that he said would only scratch the surface of what is required as that blockade from the egyptians and the israelis has prevented the flow of water, electricity andindeed the flow of water, electricity and indeed food into that area, where the best part of a Million People are now in urgent need, according to International Observers and the united nations. But well wait for updates on who can go in with the aid and who, crucially, will be let out. Be let out. As we await that , charlie, as we await that, charlie, whats happening in terms of the wider tensions . Because yesterday you were telling us about Houthi Rebels coming out of yemen. Obviously, weve got of yemen. Obviously, weve got hezbollah, got irans hezbollah, weve got irans involvement in all of that. Whats happening with that . Well whats happening with that . Well we did have seven reported attacks on us forces in iraq and syria in the 72 hours before. And there was also that intercepted missile as youre referring to there in the red sea by a us naval destroyer. But we havent had any more reports on attacks on american bases or troops. However, in the last 12 hours, the idf has confirmed that one of its troops was killed by an attack. An anti tank guided missile fired from southern lebanon into its territories in the north. A 22 year old staff sergeant, a reservist there as that conflict continues. Yesterday, it evacuated some 20,000 people from a town in the north and there were consistent air raid sirens , particularly in the sirens, particularly in the northern tip of israel in a small town called metula, which has already been evacuated as well. And the bombardment of the gaza strip continued overnight. A heavy bombardment, probably the heaviest in the last four days as they targeted hamas military capabilities , they military capabilities, they said, in the north of gaza. They said, in the north of gaza. They also claimed to have destroyed a Senior Commander and his capabilities with regards to the production of rockets. But they production of rockets. But they need more people to leave the gaza strip if they are to intensify those bombings and strike the both tactical and strategic tunnelling underneath the gaza strip, where so many personnel capabilities and indeed rockets are being kept. Indeed rockets are being kept. Okay, charlie, thanks very much for that. And we will come straight back to you the minute we hear about any movement on that rafah border. Thank you so much for that. Yes, at the moment, weve just know that at 8 06, hopefully things are moving. Were waiting for live pictures and well bring them as soon as we have proof that things are beginning to move. There and it depends, of course, how much they will let in, because the talk earlier on in the week was 20 trucks, which is nothing, nothing in terms of what is there are thousands of people on the gazan side of the border and lorries of much needed supplies on the other on the egyptian side. The egyptian side. What will they let in . And crucially, who might they let out and for how long and how theyre going to broker that deal . Nobody quite knows yet. No. Keeping an eye on that, though. But overnight, israel has confirmed that two american hostages held by hamas hostages who were held by hamas have released. Thats have been released. Thats judith and natalie rhiannon were taken by the they were taken hostage by the terrorist group from a kibbutz in southern israel. Now, rishi sunak has welcomed the release of the mother and daughter and he thanked qatar for its leadership on this issue and their efforts in freeing the hostages. Well, he was in egypt yesterday meeting the president as well as Palestinian Authority leaders , where he stressed the leaders, where he stressed the importance of intensifying dialogue. Dialogue. 48 hours. Ive been to three Different Countries and met six Different Countries and met six different leaders, including Prime Minister netanyahu and president abbas , to discuss the president abbas, to discuss the situation in israel and gaza. Situation in israel and gaza. This is a region in mourning. So first and foremost, i wanted to express my condolences to all those affected. And weve also those affected. And weve also made Good Progress on tangible areas like ensuring access for humanitarian aid to those who need it, but most importantly, in a situation like this, its important to intensify dialogue because we all have a shared interest in peace and stability interest in peace and stability in this region. Well , it is exactly two weeks well, it is exactly two weeks ago today that the world looked on in horror as the Palestinian Terror Group hamas attacked israel , Terror Group Hamas attacked israel, launching Terror Group Hamas attacked israel , launching thousands of israel, launching thousands of rockets from gaza, and gunmen also breached the security fencing designed to keep more than 2 million palestinian is out of israel and killed. And kidnapped men, women , and kidnapped men, women, children and soldiers. Well since then, of course, we have witnessed more innocent lives lost as israel retaliated bombing gaza almost every day and night. And this is how breakfast on gb news has reported on a war that has divided opinion and challenged World Leaders to somehow find a way to end the bloodshed. But way to end the bloodshed. But sadly, were having to bring to you this breaking news that israel has declared war readiness. Thats what theyre calling it after surprise attacks from the gaza strip, the Palestinian Islamist group hamas launched its biggest attack on israel with israeli officials reporting around 2500 rockets being fired from gaza, as well as sending fighters across the border. As videos and photos of border. As videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media, so too did images of armed men from hamas , taking armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. Captivity in gaza. Just after. The idf will just after. The idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities is within hours, airstrikes on gaza. So today , sorry , sorry about that. Are you safe . Are you safe . Are you is there some way you can go now . Well, our main news this morning and the humanity korean crisis is escalating in gaza as israels large scale Bombing Campaign continues to flatten entire area as well. Tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south right now after israel gave palestine persons living there just 24 hours to leave and boisvenu by otzma. Boisvenu by otzma. We are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might i emphasise , this is just the i emphasise, this is just the beginning. Our enemies have only beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price. For begun paying the price. For rocketman. Rocketman. Well, at least 17 british citizens are missing or confirmed dead following hamas attacks last weekend. Just finally , i understand just finally, i understand that you knew many people whove been killed. Approximately how been killed. Approximately how many of your friends were killed . I . I cant count it. I dont i dont know anyone who doesnt know someone who has hurt him or injured or kidnapped or dead. Injured or kidnapped or dead. Well, good morning. Welcome to the program. Its horrendous to the program. Its horrendous news to greet you with today in gazas deadliest day yet of the conflict, hundreds are feared killed in an explosion at the al al arabe hospital in gaza city overnight. Overnight. The Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson has said that hundreds died at the building after what, palestine officials said was an israeli airstrike. The temptation to turn ourselves into a shouting or recrimination society must be resisted. Society must be resisted. You cant look at what has happened here to your mothers, your fathers, your grandparents as sons, daughters, children , as sons, daughters, children, even babies, and not scream out for. Justice for. Justice but as he left tel aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night sky, dumping more guns and more munitions and clapping and cheering on as more bombs are dropped on 2. 3 Million People who are caged in an open air pnson who are caged in an open air prison is not the answer. You cannot bomb your way into changing peoples minds. The americans couldnt do it. Others couldnt do it. It just wouldnt work. It seems absolutely work. It seems absolutely incredible that this all started two weeks ago today. Two weeks ago today. Two weeks ago this morning. Two weeks ago this morning. And so many people have died since then. All thousand, Something Like that. Something like that. Absolutely horrific. Well, look , understandably , there is look, understandably, there is a lot of anger on both sides and thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators will take to the streets of Central London later as police ramp up security amid fears that it could at least have the potential to turn violent. Violent. Yes, i mean, there were similar demonstrations last saturday and 15 people were arrested then on suspicion of offences as over 1000 officers were deployed to the march. It all comes as the home secretary vowed to crack down on anyone who was supporting hamas. Anyone who was supporting hamas. Lets talk to olivia utley, our Political Correspondent. Morning, olivia. I mean, this is morning, olivia. I mean, this is going to be actually a security nightmare, isnt it . Yeah the this is going to be a real, real challenge for the met. Police already we know that theres going to be at least a thousand Police Officers. Similar numbers to last week. And issue is there is and the issue is that there is no sign that these pro palestinian rallies are no sign that these pro ptoestinian rallies are no sign that these pro pto abate1 rallies are no sign that these pro pto abate. Rallies are no sign that these pro pto abate. Thees are no sign that these pro pto abate. The organisers going to abate. The organisers say that they plan to organise something similar every single week until this particular conflict is over. Now, the metropolitan police have put some measures in place to try and mitigate against any sort of violence that could take place. So protesters will have to stick to a particular route if theyre found to deviate from that route, they can be arrested. And route, they can be arrested. And theres a lot of controversy, though , over over chanting. Though, over over chanting. There is this chant from the river to the sea. Palestine will be free to jews. That is seen as be free to jews. That is seen as an anti semitic slogan, which essentially calls for the eradication of israel. All but eradication of israel. All but on this occasion, the met police have decided that pro Palestinian Protesters will be allowed to make that chant as long as theyre not doing it in an inflammatory area. So, for example , outside a Jewish School example, outside a Jewish School or by the Israeli Embassy. Now that decision is going to go down pretty badly with quite a lot of british jews and could actually itself end up inflaming tensions. Lets see what happens later today. Later today. Okay, olivia, well leave it there. And as you say, well see there. And as you say, well see what happens later today. And also as soon as we get any pictures of that crossing opening up in rafah on the border between gaza and egypt, we will bring you those pictures. But at the moment, we have no evidence that its actually opened up or indeed that any aid is moving yet. But as soon as we get it, we will bnng as soon as we get it, we will bring it to you. Now lets just remind you of one of the one of the big stories we covered in the week, and it was Liam Halligan getting behind all of this. He reported that by 2030, 150,000 children will be homeless , potentially will be homeless, potentially living in b bs and other emergency accommodation. And thats according to the National Housing federation. 1. 5 million families will be on the Council House waiting list and thats up by more than a third. They say britain is now in the midst of a housing emergency. Thats according to the boss of one leading housing association, a theme at the heart of keir starmer speech at last weeks labour conference of course, heres our economics and Business EditorLiam Halligan to explain more on this bedfordshire building site. Dreams are being made of a safe and permanent home. This project is led by grand union, a not for Profit Housing association. In theyre building 40 social Housing Units here for low income and vulnerable families paying below market rents. But with over a million households on the Council House waiting list, these much needed homes barely scratched the surface. Surface. I think when we have 150,000 children on sleeping in temporary accommodation and its not really temporary because some of it has lasted over ten years, then that is an emergency. Were damaging peoples futures. This kyrees photo for ian and cheryl jarvis, social housing became their only option when their daughter kyrees was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Kyrees unable to walk or talk life in a seventh floor flat became impossible. All for this became impossible. All for this close knit family. Close knit family. We were paying over the odds for private renting. So even though we had two wages at the time, once carers came along, the wages started to dwindle because we were needing be because we were needing to be more work. So then to more out of work. So then to look after, to look after the daughter she was always daughter because she was always in visits. So she, in hospital visits. So so she, it just became too, too expensive then if wed have carried on trying be in the carried on trying to be in the private private side , we would private private side, we would have would we would have we would have just we would have we would have just we would have been probably worse off than were. Been flat on than we were. Wed been flat on our by 2030, the national our faces by 2030, the National Housing federation estimates 1. 5 million low income and vulnerable households will be on the waiting list for affordable social housing. Thats a third more than today. And as a result, 150,000 today. And as a result, 150,000 children will be living in temporary accommodation , such as temporary accommodation, such as bed and breakfasts and emergency hostels that six children in every school in the country essential. Essential. We cant shower for ian and cheryl , given kerrys special cheryl, given kerrys special needs , grand union has been lifesaver. I dread to think where he would be if wed be together or separated. We wouldnt if separated. We wouldnt if enabled to be living with our daughter because she needs a lot of equipment and she needs a 24 hour care. So yeah, i dont know where wed be without grand union and being in this house elsewhere in bedfordshire is grand unions newly built camomile gardens sheltered accommodation for social tenants aged 55 plus jacqui recently lost her leg in an accident. She says living here is a godsend. But social housing is godsend. But social housing is a lottery. Lottery. There seems to be an area where some people are struggling to get anywhere, and others just seem to be lucky. I dont know seem to be lucky. I dont know how other way to explain it. The media focussed on home ownership, alien evans says the need for more social housing is often ignored, but the alternative is the state subsidising vulnerable families to rent on the open market. Successive government need to invest in social housing, othennise we will consign families to lives where their futures are stolen and well have a burgeoning housing benefit bill that will cost the taxpayer payer far more than Building Social housing in the first place. While rishi sunak failed to mention housing in his Party Conference speech, keir starmer put more homes at the centre of his offer to voters. This could be the issue that decides the next general election in Liam Halligan gb news in bedfordshire i well, well talk more about that maybe a bit later on in the programme, but now we think things might be beginning to happen on that concerning that border between egypt and gaza. Border between egypt and gaza. Shall we cross live to tel aviv now and talk to our reporter Charlie Peters. What do we know of what is happening in charlie . Of what is happening in charlie . There are now reports , there there are now reports, there are now reports of humanitarian trucks crossing from the egyptian side. Havent been able to verify the footage yet, but photos this morning showing in the last five minutes, six trucks with the egyptian red crescent symbol on the side passing through the rafah crossing from egypt into gaza. This comes some ten minutes after reports there that 20 trucks were prepared to enter carrying medicines, medical suppues carrying medicines, medical supplies and medical equipment and food. Hamas, their media and food. Hamas, their media office, said that what will arrive in the gaza strip would only scratch the surface of what is required. And that sentiment is required. And that sentiment has also been echoed by the un and other International Observers amid what they are describing as an untenable humanitarian situation. Seven days ago, the un said that the spectre of death loomed over gaza. The uns chief was at the crossing yesterday trying to rally support for the opening, calling on International Leaders who have been gathering in egypt. Several times over the last five days to a week to really rally support for the opening of that crossing. James cleverly, our foreign secretary was there two days ago. The Prime Minister was there yesterday and the foreign secretary is expected to arrive today as well in cairo for a peace summit with leaders from bahrain, japan and italy, among others, to rally support for the opening of the rafah crossing to get as much aid in as possible. But in the last but this morning, in the last few we have unconfirmed few minutes, we have unconfirmed reports the trucks reports of the first trucks going into the gaza strip. Live footage appears to show those trucks entering with the egyptian red crescent, which is affiliated with the un, supported by the various other ngos and International Observers on the scene. They think that Food Supplies going in will be just 20 trucks. There have been reports. So just 20 trucks. Thats one truck for every some 110,000 people in the area. So 110,000 people in the area. So very much scratching the surface of what is required in a desperate scenario. There but the first pictures now coming through of that rafah crossing being opened. This comes just an hour and a half after the us embassy said it could open imminently. 20 minutes ago. It was is expected to open and there were fears in tel aviv and indeed throughout the region that that was another dashed hope that this was going to be another false from the another false report from the americans. Is the fourth americans. This is the fourth time have that the time they have said that the rafah crossing would open. But it appears the it appears now that the diplomacy humanity , an diplomacy and the humanity, an aid finally been agreed that aid has finally been agreed that being led by the us , but also being led by the us, but also with key input from both the egyptians and the israelis , a egyptians and the israelis, a sort of tripartite discussion on allowing aid to enter into the gaza strip. We will see obviously later if we can confirm those reports, but also if more humanitarian aid will be allowed to flow in where it will go. Will there be a humanitarian safe zone, which was one of the key demands of us secretary of state Antony Blinken when he visited nine days ago . That was on his the top of his diplomatic wish list for the region. He wanted to secure for more spaces for civilians to gather safely in the gaza strip , especially in the gaza strip, especially after the idf ordered them to flee from the north to the south. There is a total blockade on the gaza strip at the moment with water, fuel, electricity and Food Supplies being cut by both the israelis and the egyptians. As the idf continues egyptians. As the idf continues its war on the gaza strip. This has been severely criticised around the world. King abdullah of jordan described to rishi sunak the situation as a war crime and the day after that briefing, Prime Minister rishi sunak spoke to the Palestinian Authority president , mahmoud abbas, to express his concerns about the situation in as well. The idf on their part. Many speakers from the israeli establishment here, including former Prime Minister naftali bennett, saying that, well, why would you feed someone if they are throwing rockets from their kitchen . But of course , other kitchen . But of course, other International Observers have said that collective punishment and punishing innocent palestinians is not the same as targeting hamas military capabilities, which is the stated ambition of the idf dunng stated ambition of the idf during this conflict. Stated ambition of the idf during this conflict. But as they continue their bombardment and there was a heavy bombardment last night, it now seems that finally we have the first entry of humanitarian aid into the south of the gaza strip. It will be interesting to see which other humanitarian aid agencies and ngos and observers will be able to have an effect on the ground because that is a key ambition. One of the various diplomatic powers in the region. It has been the central demand of the arab powers as well. They keep calling for a ceasefire and end to what they describe as Israeli Aggression on the gaza strip. But they are also demanding International Support for aid as the best part of a Million People face an appalling situation in the south after that order to move from the north. As israel continues its bombardment. This could also be seen as a key opportunity for the Israeli Military because as they are preparing to shape the ground and sustain their forces, there is that large convoy of tanks and troops on the south as they are seeking to prepare the ground for that likely imminent invasion. Having humanity an aid invasion. Having humanity an aid in the south may pull more people away from the north so they can continue their heavy bombardment of those areas and possibly even go another step further, use more advanced munitions. We know theyve been using those £1,000 bombs and those jdams, which are common among western militaries , but among western militaries, but they could go further. They may be interested in using bunker buster munitions to really push into the tunnelling system below gaza. If you think of gaza as a place of two levels, on the top is where millions of civilians live and below underground , that live and below underground, that subterranean labyrinth of tunnels where hamas gather their strategic and tactical limits. There are some 500km of tunnels in the gaza strip. Some of them reports say, go up to 230ft deep. And as the idf have continued their intelligence gathering operations, hamas have dug deeper. And so if they want to reach those tunnels where rockets personnel and key military capabilities are kept, they will need to use more advanced munitions to reach them. There have also been floated reports here in israel that they may try and flood some of those tunnels if they know that they dont have hostages with them, they may try and use other methods push other methods to push their troops into to that tunnelling. But they cant really deliver that military effect and shape the ground for that advanced attack if they do not remove as many civilians from the north as possible. It also will allow for a smoother transition of that slow and deliberate attack of tanks and troops , the armoured tanks and troops, the armoured convoys. Theyre waiting to go in if humanitarian aid is in the south and the rafah Border Crossing is open and more agencies can supply those people , the idf will feel as though there is a greater opportunity now for that invasion. So its a sort of double edged sword in gaza. Sort of double edged sword in gaza. I think sort of double edged sword in gaza. I think many sort of double edged sword in gaza. I think many people will gaza. I think many people will see it that way. Finally, they are being fed by the world amid that appalling situation. They are facing various International Agencies seeking to supply aid under the umbrella of the un. But also dragging them further towards the devastating conflict that we expect to continue and escalate when the idf launches its Ground Invasion in the north of gaza. This is considered to be imminent, especially after the defence minister, yoav galant, yesterday outlined plans for the idf to move in. There will be three stages, he said. Will be three stages, he said. Tactical fires then manoeuvres, then a lower intensity of war after they destroy hamas military capabilities. And then finally , and most vaguely they finally, and most vaguely they would remove their responsibility for the control of the gaza strip. But before they can do all that and before they can do all that and before they can do all that and before they can pass on responsibility to who knows who after that military invasion takes place, they are now allowing aid to enter with support from the egyptians and the us. We understand , at this time. But of understand, at this time. But of course well keep you updated on all those developments, both humanitarian and military, as we get more information. Okay, charlie , thanks very okay, charlie, thanks very much indeed. And we are getting confirmation now from the palestinian side that that aid has started to cross the border. You have to look at this, though, and i know in a lot of people say some of the work is cynical, not this particular thing, but the release by hamas of those two hostages, some people say the israeli side saying, well, its a cynical move thats a cynical move. However do we look at this and say, well , look, both sides are say, well, look, both sides are giving a little bit on some of this. Theres some aid going in and theres some hostages being released. Is it . Its a sort of released. Is it . Its a sort of diplomacy. Is it a glint of hope that actually maybe , you know, that actually maybe, you know, diplomacy could win out . And if everybody gives just a little and a little bit more every day, could there be a peaceful outcome here . If youre listening on the radio, were looking at live images now from the egypt gaza border. Its very the egypt gaza border. Its very difficult to tell whats going on. Lorries are just moving around. But a palestinian around. But a palestinian official now, i think its been officially reported now by reuters, say that aid is some of lorries are now crossing the border and going into the southern part there of gaza and hopefully distributing the aid to those ordinary people, citizens who are just clustered on the border because thats been theyve been told thats to where flee to. But i just dont know the practicality of it is how many trucks would have to go through that border day and night to make a real difference for the i mean, what i mean, 2. 3 Million People in gaza , you know, 50 of people in gaza, you know, 50 of those in the southern part , it those in the southern part, it its a 25 mile long strip. I mean, its how much aid is going to be needed, what is needed, what is on those trucks . Well, food, water, medical supplies. Is there some sort of fuel going in there that theyre going to need or and who polices it . Need or and then who polices it . Well, those vans , those are well, those vans, those are heavily, heavily checked. They must be being heavily checked. Must be being heavily checked. And then on even on the other side, how do you make sure that its getting ordinary its getting to the ordinary people and not to hamas . Well , who checks that . Well, who checks that . Well, who checks that . Thats what makes it so difficult. I guess. Difficult. I guess. Anyway, well keep you up to date with that as we get more details through. In the meantime, were going to be talking sport. Were to talking sport. Were going to be talking sport. Were going to be talking dettori talking frank, Frankie Dettori waving to british waving farewell to British Racing. Thats in just okay. Coming up to 835. Lets have a quick round up of the sport with aidan mcgee. And theres lots to talk about. Good old Frankie Dettori, who i know well, exactly. I mean, he i think a few people who gave him those retirement presents probably want them back because want a few of them back because he announced a few months ago that be his last that this would be his last yean years e hes 52 years old, but hes now wanting a little now wanting to undergo a little spell in the us, which i imagine must be financial. But well get more a perspective on this more of a perspective on this now. Bannau with now. Actually bannau with a guest, former jockey and guest, the former jockey and current brough. Current journalist brough. Scott. Morning to scott. Brough good morning to you. On gb news. You. First of all on gb news. How will you reflect on the career of Frankie Dettori . Hes one of the great characters in the sport. Hes going to be a big miss, isnt he . Yeah i mean, big miss, isnt he . Yeah i mean, hes been hes been unique both in and out of the saddle. In and out of the saddle. The first two jet aged jockey and the ultimate sometimes. And the ultimate sometimes. And what about the move to the us . Is it as is itjust me the us . Is it as is it just me being cynical to say that this is about money or is this about somebody wanting to just eat that last little bit of time out of their career . No no. Of their career . No no. I mean, we all have to be cynical in the world. And no, its to be fair, he. He went out its to be fair, he. He went out there last winter. He was there with a team. And he was very successful. And he is going back there. He was in the kentucky derby, began. Its much easier life there in one sense. And you dont travel as much, even though you have to be lighter. Youll have to be have to to be kilos lighter out there. But hes desperate to try and win the kentucky derby. If he gets going out there , which he wants going out there, which he wants to, he then if hes fit. Kentucky derby is on the 1st of may. If hes fit and winning the kentucky derby, someone asks him to run the derby, hes going to come he . In come over. Isnt he . And in particular next, royal ascot was always american. Horses come to royal ascot , and up to now royal ascot, and up to now thats always been the default rider for them. So called wesley ward brings horses out. So id expect to see him there. But its a bit like we had a very famous uncle who emigrated to california. Youre not. Hes california. Youre not. Hes were not going to never see him again. But hes hes its his life. He is over as a as a life. He is over as a as a jockey. Its over. And we are saying goodbye to him from that point of view. I mean, he has five rides today, three of them. Two of them are favourite. The last big one might even the last big one might even win the last. Ride in this last. His last ride in this particular stage of his career. But hes 52, 2053. Hes hes very remarkable brother. I think its important to say for all the bazaars and the jumping off and the Celebrity Big Brother and the Celebrity Big Brother and some pretty big missteps , and some pretty big missteps, its hes a unique talent. I mean, theres never, ever been anybody who balances above a horse better than him. Ive seen a lot of great jockeys from Gordon Richards and lester piggott, sir mata pat eddery, steve cauthen, but him above a horse in full flow is a thing of beauty and a quite astonishing balance. And, you know , this is balance. And, you know, this is the last time well see him for only five rides at ascot today. And with all these other dreadful things. So. Well its worth celebrating. Worth celebrating. Ralphie is indeed worth celebrating. Thanks very much celebrating. Thanks very much indeed for your insights here this morning on gb news and we hope to see just a little bit of action of him in america as well. Well still hear about him and a great loss in terms of as and a great loss in terms of as a character, what age do jockeys normally retire then . I would probably ten i would suggest probably ten years before, frankie. Years before, before frankie. Tories probably frankie the tories probably 52, 52. Hes still 52, i think 52. Hes still looking to do great stuff in america. Yes, hes fit. And also and i see it in lots of different sports. Some people for people, sport a for some people, sport is a drug competing as a drug. Winning is a drug and they have trouble breaking that. They breaking away from that. They really i think maybe breaking away from that. They realitrying i think maybe breaking away from that. They realitrying to i think maybe breaking away from that. They realitrying to cling nk maybe breaking away from that. They realitrying to cling on maybe breaking away from that. They realitrying to cling on a aybe breaking away from that. They realitrying to cling on a bite just trying to cling on a bit. Lets face it, all he does is sit a horse. Oh sorry, sit on a horse. Oh sorry, frankie. Be coming for you. Ill be coming for you. Football at liverpool. Liverpool against yeah, liverpool against everton at 1235. A everton at anfield at 1235. A little bit. One sided this one in recent years. I think everton have won recently at have only won recently at anfield. That was three years ago. Their at the time, ago. Their manager at the time, carlo didnt carlo ancelotti, said it didnt count there no fans count because there were no fans in that didnt go in the stadium. That didnt go down the with the home down well with the with the home fans. But yeah, liverpool been dealt week. Andy dealt a blow this week. Andy robertson, scottish robertson, the scottish fullback, to undergo fullback, has had to undergo surgery that will him out surgery that will keep him out for months. But our back for a few months. But our back liverpool win in that one. Liverpool to win in that one. A few other games as well. We should mention newcastle take on crystal palace. Ive had a difficult newcastle because crystal palace. Ive had a difficultheir newcastle because crystal palace. Ive had a difficultheir players, stle because crystal palace. Ive had a difficultheir players, sandro ause one of their players, sandro tonali, has been implicated a tonali, has been implicated in a betting scandal in italy. Is he going dont going to play today . We dont know to going be the know if hes to going be in the right frame of mind, but well monitor that one as we go along. Okay lovely stuff. Thank you very much aidan, thank you very much indeed biscuits indeed for that. Broken biscuits dont they . Dont count, do they . No, dont at all. No no, they dont at all. No calories broken biscuits . No, they dont at all. No calciabsolutely en biscuits . No, they dont at all. No calciabsolutely not. Scuits . No, they dont at all. No calciabsolutely not. Need . Yes, absolutely not. Need to remember. Coming up remember. Right. Its coming up to after the to 840. And after the conservatives the two conservatives lost the two recent elections, is it the recent by elections, is it the end for the tories . Well be discussing all that and more in headune discussing all that and more in headline makers at 843. Lets go through some of the headunes lets go through some of the headlines today with our senior political commentator, nigel nelson and former conservative adviser claire pearsall. Good to see you both this morning. Um, see you both this morning. Um, clare, lets have a bit of just stop oil, should we . Theyve been axing or tweeting as we used to call it. Yes. Yes, they have. And yes. Yes, they have. And theyre using storm babet as their latest campaign to have a go at the government, at big oil companies. And theyre companies. And theyre suggesting that there are blood on the hands of oil execs. This is all their fault. So its the Oil Executives problem that storm babet, has happened at all, correct. How do they argue that they view it all in the lens of Climate Change and therefore, scotland flooding and therefore, scotland flooding and people having to be removed from homes . Its all to do with the High Pressure system. It is. It is. Apparently its general weather. So lets the general weather. So lets the general weather. So lets the general weather is caused by Climate Change. Well, you see now here. Well, you see now here. Oh , thats a controversial oh, thats a controversial point. I oh, thats a controversial point. I know oh, thats a controversial point. I know its the oh, thats a controversial point. I know its the autumn and autumn weather is always particularly very gusty with wind and the rain always comes down. And we havent had very much rain. And i think that you also need to look at things like have the councils done looked at their flood defences or have they looked at clearing drains , they looked at clearing drains, have they looked at whats going on in culverts and ditches to make sure that there is space for water runoff fields . There are an awful lot of things, but of course they go straight to the change, straight to the Climate Change, straight to pointing other pointing the finger at other people. And what theyre forgetting is the misery of those individuals are those poor individuals who are having evacuated from having to be evacuated from their i mean, there are their homes. I mean, there are some horrendous some really horrendous photographs of people being taken away in little paddling boats, basically out of their homes. And think that to cash homes. And i think that to cash in on it is wrong. Yes. Well , i would in on it is wrong. Yes. Well, i would i would agree that politics, joe, is a website which likes to sort of get its name out there by by being sort of controversial. Theyve released a song. Lets have a look. Look. Offer a solution , offer offer a solution, offer alternatives to manage decline. Its the tories and they know it fits the dog. The tories is and they know it. Its the end dog the tories it. Its the end dog the tories and they know. And i feel fine. And they know. And i feel fine. For mark. Its important for the country. Europe needs to be kept country. Europe needs to be kept out of london. Integrity is long gone. Integrity is long gone. Integrity is long gone. Wow. Wow. Its i mean, its clever. Its i mean, its clever. They do. They do a lot of this sort of stuff, though, dont they . Yes, they do. Yeah i mean, i just think its a bit of fun and politics should be fun, even though its meant to be a serious business. But the two by elections weve seen this week i mean, mick lynch is talking about the end of the tour, isnt it . And maybe is that. I mean. Maybe it is that. I mean. Not. Well, its not. Well, its not. Well, its not. Well, George Osborne who well, its George Osborne who said the end of these it said that if the end of these it might the end of this tory government. But theyre not going. But theyre not going. I mean the tories will exist forever. Im not suggesting its the of tories, but if the end of the tories, but if you you extrapolate it out of you if you extrapolate it out of these results, what youd end up with, there would be a with, with there would be a small number mps small number of tory mps after the election there the general election than there are but im not are scots nats. So but im not saying thats going to happen because extrapolate because i dont extrapolate that. Was George Osborne that. But it was George Osborne osborne who said if you lose both by elections, youre looking at armageddon. And i looking at armageddon. And i think that the if theyd saved one probably mid beds because it was a three way race rather than tamworth or even the lib dems had got one that would have been on slightly better news if we keep the tories in the game. But its lies, lies, lies and statistics , isnt it . With all statistics, isnt it . With all this i mean huge swing to labour as it as you look at things. But actually labour in effect got fewer votes in mid beds. I think , and only 800 more votes in, in tamworth. Yeah. Yes thats, thats true. Yes thats, thats true. Yes thats, thats true. So in fact it wasnt about people voting for labour, it was about people not the tories not getting out of the bed. The turnout was i think 36, 36 in tamworth and yes, and so and the labour majorities now are only just over a thousand. Yes, thats right. So it could easily be overturned at the next election but yes it could be. All those things are possible. Actually showing. What its actually showing though that people arent though is that people arent frightened labour , even if frightened of labour, even if youre right and theyre not quite ready yet to trust them, theyre no longer frightened in theyre no longer frightened in the way they used to be. Othennise you wouldnt have had one of these. It was a protest vote. The mid beds would have gone lib dem and the lib dems in tamworth. They only managed to get 417 votes. So its not protest. This is actually a positive move towards labour, is it . I dont see it. I dont see it. I dont see it. I disagree. I what a surprise. I think this really is a protest vote and people are saying that they arent happy with the conservative party its not that theyre really overly chuffed with labour either , but chuffed with labour either, but its always that very important thing about sending a message and by elections are a classic for this. People are angry for this. People are angry people in those seats are angry for many different reasons. I for many different reasons. I dont think you definitely cant extrapolate this out into a general election. Weve seen so many polls, weve seen one of them that reduced the conservative party down to 3 3 mps is now okay. Its not impossible, but i dont think its one of the highest possible parties. It looks as though labour will win , but i think labour will win, but i think its mainly because everybody is fed up with the conservative party. And you know what . Maybe they need a period of introspection on. I dont want to see them lose at all. I dont want to see a Labour Government. However, what weve got at the moment certainly isnt a conservative government and i think thats what people are angry about. Okay. Okay. Okay. And talking of conservatives or not, depending on how you view him, sajid javid , i think view him, sajid javid, i think that this is he a conservative or not in your book . Yeah, he is. He is. And its really sad that were losing talent like this. Sajid is not standing at the next election. We are going to lose the wealth of experience that he brings to the house and this is a really interesting piece regarding the rise in crimes. After the israel gaza conflict and what that means is for breaking the law in the united kingdom, such as chanting anti semitic rants and songs on the street. And if what sajid javid is suggesting that if you are a Foreign National and you are here on a visa and you break the law, then you should have your visa revoked. Now, i dont see anything wrong with that. I think it is profoundly sensible. Its not even controversial, is it . Its controversial it . Its not controversial really, because a visa is a licence you havent done . Absolutely. Yes, absolutely. Yes, absolutely. I with every word of i agree with every word of sajid javid this one that if sajid javid on this one that if you if you come to this you come if you come to this country as a as a guest, which is obviously what a visa you is obviously what a visa is, you respect the values of that country and what you dont do is start breaking the law in any form. And certainly when it form. And certainly when it comes to down anti semitism or islamophobe here, you should be chucked out. If you do. Yeah. Hate crimes, if its any any hate crimes before we lose any chance of this, can we talk about the late queens acting skills . We can. We can. How does this manifest itself . Because it was the screenwriter of the famous paddington sketch that she did for her jubilee. And he turned around to her majesty and said, look, youre youre quite an actor. Youre quite, quite an actress that youve done really well. There and the queen replies, well , i do well. There and the queen replies, well, i do it well. There and the queen replies, well , i do it all the replies, well, i do it all the time. And when you think about it, probably the queen, after 70 years of actually doing it, she was probably the best actress in the country. Yeah yeah. To get through those kind of really dull kind of visits that she had to do. And on the days you dont feel like it. She always put on a smile and say, how charmed she was to meet you, even if she wasnt. We dont have that paddington clip, do we . Oh, we do. Is there a chance of looking at it . We do love it so much. Oh, we dont. Oh, we dont. We dont. Oh no. We dont. Oh no. But theres a really classic line interview where she line in the interview where she was a problem with one of was having a problem with one of the particular lines of the delivery getting delivery and the tone of getting one of the lines right, talking to the paddington that would have in of and have been in front of her. And the just the director said, well, just imagine talking your imagine youre talking to your grandchildren great grandchildren or your great grandchild. That grandchild. And apparently that was just enough. And she did that and it was perfect from that and it was perfect from that point fonnard. So it was it was nice memory speaking was that nice memory of speaking to that just to your grandchildren that just brought. Brought it out. Lovely. Because oh, thats lovely. Because she so perfect in it. She she was so perfect in it. She was timing seemed to be perfect. In fact, the screenwriter actually part of the actually played the part of the footman well. Thats footman as well. Yes, thats right. Alongside the queen right. Yes. Alongside the queen throughout it. Yeah. We go. Yeah. Here we go. Yeah. Here we go. It. We found it. Have round it. We found it. Have a look at this. This, of course, the famous queen with Paddington Bear and marmalade sandwiches. She. Is she. Is she. Oh, yes, please. Oh, yes, please. Oh, yes, please. Oh. Oh oh, oh, terribly sorry i oh. Oh never mind. Oh. Oh never mind. Oh. Oh never mind. I mean, its just. I mean, its just. And the fact that she was performing to nothing. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, but she cant have been that used to doing actually. Yeah. Well i mean she would actually see real people in front of her normally at the very least. Yeah. Yes, very least. Yeah. But yes, i mean you can see that think mean you can see that i think that that one of the greatest that that is one of the greatest memories of that and memories of her that and obviously the 2012 olympics when she took part in the in the james bond sketch. Yeah. That was very good. Yeah. That was very good. She was going for a laugh, wasnt she . She was. And i think the real sort of love she had of doing it to see your queen walking along with james bond. I mean, its with james bond. I mean, its fascinating. But the paddington clip, i think, will stick in everybodys memory. It was just so beautiful odd. So beautiful and funny, odd. Its ridiculous in i mean, its ridiculous in a way. Paddington were way. Paddington bear and were just for some reason just it just for some reason just it just for some reason just melts your heart. It does absolutely does. It does absolutely does. Just how can you i mean, its just how can you not like him plus. To know whats in plus we get to know whats in the queens handbag. Thats after these years. There you go. Its just lovely and will live on lovely. And it will live on forever. I think. Nigel forever. That i think. Nigel clare, been joy to see clare, its been a joy to see you. Today , the rafah crossing on today, the rafah crossing on the egypt gaza border appears to finally be open. Weve actually now seen desperately needed aid trucks making their way to civilians in the besieged strip. Charlie peters is live for us in tel aviv. Tel aviv. As humanitarian aid arrives in the gaza strip. Israel in the gaza strip. Israel continues its heavy bombardment as it prepares to send tanks and troops into the territory. Well meanwhile, hamas has released two american hostages for , they two american hostages for, they claim, humanitarian reasons. The pair have been reunited with family members in israel and back in the uk. Security in london is ramped up as thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators are going to take to the streets of the capital amid fears that their march could turn violent. Their march could turn violent. Olivia utley will have the latest on that. The met will latest on that. The met will have a job on its hands today as thousands of pro Palestinian Protesters flood the streets of london. But what exactly can we expect . Find out but what exactly can we expect . Join me later for a full forecast. The latest on full forecast. The latest on storm bobet and the prospects where you are for this weekend. Where you are for this weekend. Good morning to you. Im Stephen Dixon. And im anne diamond. And this is breakfast on gb news. Are developing news news. Are developing news for you this morning. And the rafah crossing. Thats the egypt gaza border does appear now to be open. And weve seen desperately needed aid trucks heading in making their way to civilians in the besieged strip. This is the besieged strip. This is the scene this morning. You can see a little bit of movement. It is a little bit of movement. It is a slow process. It has to be said. Charlie peters is in tel aviv for us. I mean, this is a significant move, isnt it, charlie . Charlie . It is. And it follows Extensive International diplomacy , particularly by the diplomacy, particularly by the us in cairo and in jerusalem, to try and establish the opening of that humanitarian Border Crossing. Finally, it appears that some 20 trucks have now gone in, but it will really only scratch the surface of whats needed, according to the International Observers on the ground , in particular, the un. Ground, in particular, the un. This is also a significant step for the aid agencies because the un has reported that some 16 workers of the relief works agency, which is there Agency Within gaza and indeed the west bank, have been killed by what they describe as israeli strikes on the gaza strip since this war started. At least three of those started. At least three of those dead killed, three un workers were members of the support staff. There so potentially engaging in the distribution of aid that does reflect how it is aid that does reflect how it is a dangerous and very unstable situation there. So the aid finally arriving for the best part of 2 Million People across the gaza strip who do need that aid amid a deteriorating humanitarian situation, the blockade by israel and egypt preventing water, food and electricity from arriving as this war escalates. But of the 20 trucks, we understand that inside them will be medical suppues inside them will be medical supplies , medical equipment and supplies, medical equipment and food for hospitals in the gaza strip. And there are strip. And there are approximately 26 operating throughout the territory have been running on fuel and General Motors since the blockade , cut motors since the blockade, cut off electricity supplies. There off electricity supplies. There have been repeated reports from many of those hospitals that they are unable to continue with their work. Weve seen footage of doctors claiming that they are using local supplies from shops in order to continue their urgent, Urgent Medical work. As urgent, Urgent Medical work. As the casualties stretch into the thousands in the gaza strip. But this aid will its intended support those medical workers, but also the many people that have no access to food and water on the ground. That food is on the ground. That food is likely to be high powered biscuits that the un distributes them around the world. Theyre a way of giving people urgent vitamins and minerals in a small dose of food, so its a maximum impact delivery from the un and we wait to see further reports if more aid is able to cross, because as observers have said, 20 trucks for 2 Million People, its really not ideal. They need as much aid as possible. But israel is concerned that whatever aid goes in could end up in the hands of hamas. There have been reports of people taking from un compounds in the gaza strip. We havent been able gaza strip. We havent been able to confirm those reports, but it is a precarious situation from a security perspective, especially the security of food and aid. Amid this declining, rapidly declining humanitarian situation i okay, thank you. Yes absolutely. I was just going to say that were showing pictures at the moment of some somewhere. We were told it may be the egypt gaza border. I think this is the original shotis i think this is the original shot is what i was wondering. So actually, this explosion, theyve theyve panned the camera around this, whether its a or what, we camera around this, whether its a know. Or what, we camera around this, whether its a know. Butyr what, we camera around this, whether its a know. But that at, we camera around this, whether its a know. But that actually dont know. But that actually could northern gaza. It could be in northern gaza. It could be in northern gaza. It could be in northern gaza. It could be quite a Long Distance away. Its very hard to tell without sort of looking at this on a map. But this could actually be in the northern part of gaza where we know, as charlie was saying, you know, of gaza where we know, as charli those saying, you know, of gaza where we know, as charli those attacks you know, of gaza where we know, as charli those attacks are know, of gaza where we know, as charli those attacks are stillv, those those attacks are still going on. And lets see, is just charlie, want to come back with something. Something. Lets see if charlies might have something, because theres the border. The border. Yes the border. Yes so at the moment. So at the moment. So at the moment. So that is on the southern side. So that could be further to the its certainly further to the east, possibly to the north. Charlie, have you got more detail on that . Yeah. Well, as the conversation continues on the rafah Border Crossing, we are heanng rafah Border Crossing, we are hearing in the last few minutes rafah Border Crossing, we are hearthein the last few minutes rafah Border Crossing, we are hearthe ushe last few minutes rafah Border Crossing, we are hearthe Us Intelligenceninutes that the Us Intelligence community understands that irans position in the region is not to engage in a direct confrontation with israel, but rather to support its proxies. So thats another urgent situation developing here as the humanitarian aid goes in. There is some, i suppose, mildly reassuring information coming in from sources in the us that they do not wish to engage in a direct conflict with the us. We do know that what happens in the humanitarian situation in gaza will almost certainly affect how iranian proxies act in the region because they want that ceasefire and the end to what they describe as Israeli Aggression on the gaza strip. So itll be interesting to see how the iranian proxies, particular hamas and hezbollah in southern lebanon, react to the news of this Border Crossing. Will they continue to ramp up their attacks on northern israel , as attacks on northern israel, as weve seen in the last 48 hours . Or will there be a reduction in their strikes on the territory . Their strikes on the territory . Weve also seen, as reported in the last few days, attacks on us forces almost certainly conduct by iranian proxies in iraq and syria. Theyve claimed response ability for drone missile attacks on those troops and missiles intercepted from the yemen based houthi militia , yemen based houthi militia, which is supported by iran. But we dont know if they are being directed by tehran. So an escalating situation, of course, throughout the region with regards to how iran is posturing, its forces. But the interesting question will be now is this humanitarian an update going to effect how those proxies act as we hear reports that the us understands that iran is not seeking a direct confrontation with us forces . Confrontation with us forces . Yeah, thats an interesting move, actually. Okay, charlie, thank you. Yes, that any step fonnard is going to provoke some buddy somewhere. Somewhere. Well, yeah, i mean, thats thats a constant dilemma with this, isnt it . But you do get an inkling. You do get a sort of sense with some of this happening with the release of two hostages with this aid moving through now, as charlie says, wanting direct says, iran not wanting direct involved movement , are things involved movement, are things edging very slowly in the right direction . Its too early to direction . Its too early to tell. But as you can direction . Its too early to tell. But as you can you can but have some hope. You can only wish, cant you . Absolutely. Well, overnight , absolutely. Well, overnight, israel has confirmed that two american hostages who were held by hamas have now been released. Theyre judith and natalie rhiannon. And they were taken hostage by the terrorist group from a kibbutz in southern israel at the very beginning of all of this. Well, rishi sunak welcomed the release of the mum and daughter that hes thanked qatar for its leadership on the issue and their efforts freeing the hostages. The Prime Minister of course, was egypt yesterday meeting was in egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president , as well as Palestinian Authority leaders , where he stressed the importance of intensifying dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the middle east. Its 48 hours. Ive been to three Different Countries and met six different leaders , met six different leaders, including Prime Minister netanyahu and president abbas, to discuss the situation in israel and gaza. This is a region in mourning. So first and foremost, i wanted to express my condolences to all those affected. And weve also made Good Progress on tangible areas like ensuring access for humanitarian aid to those who need it, but most importantly , need it, but most importantly, in a situation like this, its important to intensify dialogue because we all have a shared interest in peace and stability because we all have a shared inithist in peace and stability because we all have a shared inithis regionace and stability because we all have a shared inithis region. e and stability in this region. Well, we can speak now to former us president ial adviser steve gill. Lovely to see you again, steve. Great news overnight about the two american hostages whove been released. And it does sort of give us all some hope that maybe things can be negotiated for the good. Yeah, the part of the problem is that these hostages are being held by individual groups of the terrorists. So theres not real clear indication of whether or not the hamas leadership actually controls some of the individuals. And as you guys individuals. And as you guys pointed out, the flow of some aid coming in from egypt is good. Its a small, minuscule amount for 2 Million People. And more importantly , hamas is the more importantly, hamas is the government in in gaza. So we dont know that this aid actually gets into the hands of individual civilians or whether it feeds the hamas fighters first fuels, no pun intended, their efforts before it actually helps the people , which is helps the people, which is exactly the argument that israel has been making of course. But it has to be said, theres a theres a huge amount of International Pressure and the idea of collective punishment, which is a term which is gaining momentum, actually , ali, do you think that actually, ali, do you think that is having an impact on pressure, some pressure from from President Biden as well for israel to at least pull back a little bit on what they were threatening . Well, im not sure that President Biden is having much influence at all. And if the Prime Minister decides to follow President Bidens lead and have a conversation with with the uk , a conversation with with the uk, ihope a conversation with with the uk, i hope he follows the advice of President Biden and doesnt use his script. And i would say just dont say the same things that President Biden did, giving 100 million to the gaza government, which is hamas and at the same time trying to shoehorn another 60 billion for ukraine that has nothing to do with whats going on in israel is the wrong track. And i think President Biden is getting a lot of pushback there here in this country. And not really having any influence in the middle east. Again, it is a little bit of progress to get a few hostages released. But theyre doing that because theyre only doing that because of pressure that of the military pressure that israel is putting in the northern part. Think that northern part. And i think that israel going to go and try israel is going to go in and try to extinguish the effect that hamas gaza. Hamas has in gaza. But this does show that the strength of diplomacy , does it strength of diplomacy, does it not, though, that at least qatar was able to intervene and help negotiate the release of those two hostages after President Biden had visited various people . I know he didnt get to meet some of the leaders that he wanted to, but also after rishi sunak, proves the point even sunak, it proves the point even to those cynical about it, that it does help to have some friends in the middle east. Yeah, and i think the attempt is very important. And again, we will see if this flow of some aid into into gaza will release some other hostages. Theres still about 190 that are held. We dont know their conditions. Theres not been proof of life. Theres not been proof of life. Theres not been any real conversation of how they are being treated. I mean, so many babies , so many elderly that are babies, so many elderly that are not getting their medication, not getting their medication, not cared for. And if not getting cared for. And if there isnt the flow of food or medication into gaza , you can medication into gaza, you can bet that the hostages are not getting any piece of it at this point. If the hamas leadership is serious about trying to divert to diplomacy rather than military action, they will release a lot more than two hostages. Yeah what do you make of what President Biden said about not following the example of america when it came to nine by 11 . Was that i mean, the lots of ways you could look at that. But is some of that to do with the exit strategy, which obviously didnt happen with the retribution that america and the west tried to play america and the west tried to play on bin laden . The fact there doesnt seem to be a sort of an exit strategy or a long term strategy. And what israel term strategy. And what israel is planning here . Well, i think nobody thinks that israel should long term try to occupy gaza. They did give to occupy gaza. They did give gaza a free rein to govern themselves and they elected hamas. They put the terrorists in charge by a vote contrary to what President Biden said the other day. And i think the problem with his speech and granted, it was much better than his flight home and his Improper Press conference on air force one when his approach to the missile strike from the terrorists that hit a parking lot next to the hospital to tell them that they need to learn to shoot shoot straighter , shoot better, shoot straighter, it was a disaster. And i dont think his speech much better think his speech did much better when focussed on when he focussed more on islamophobia , focussed more on islamophobia, focussed more on ukraine than he did the situation in israel. So i think President Biden has not helped the situation directly. I think Prime Minister sunak did a much better job and hopefully his leadership in this debate will have have a lot more impact. Thats very interesting that actually you think President Biden hasnt really been that much of a help. He did speak out about trying to keep a lid on getting to angry, on letting things get to emotion final in their response. Yes, he did a their response. Yes, he did a pretty good job, didnt he . But you dont think so . No. And again , keep in mind no. And again, keep in mind that the emotions that were seeing when you have a misinformation campaign, when a hamas or affiliate rocket hits a parking lot, kills 50, not 500 or 700, the inflamed middle east through that misinformation is where weve seen the real emotions that are out of control. And i think trying to ratchet that back up when we have members of congress in the United States who are continuing to spread the lie that israel targeted at a hospital. Thats whats making it more difficult, not the efforts of israel to warn people, to get people out of harms way in northern gaza before they start their military operations. Keep in mind, nobodys really reporting that hundreds and if not thousands of rockets are pouring into civilian areas of israel every day from hamas and sometimes from hezbollah as well. That from hezbollah as well. That targeting of civilians is ignored by most of the media. Well, i wouldnt say its ignored, but i guess i guess the difference is iron dome, which is an incredible system that israel has , which which targets israel has, which which targets and brings down in very nearly all of those rocket attacks. So theyre having a less of an impact, at least. Impact, at least. Yeah, i think and again , but yeah, i think and again, but for the iron dome, we would be seeing civilian casualties in israel mounting. Its just the israel mounting. Its just the iron dome thats preventing that. And thats why some of these resources need to be headed to israel to make sure that theyve got the iron dome facilities needed to continue to shoot those down. But again, President Bidens focus was more on ukraine putting 60 billion more in ukraine. And even when he was defending the 100 million thats going to gaza, he was saying, well, were going to make sure that it actually gets to the people. Theres no guarantee that can happen. And is to be better is it going to be better monitored than billion monitored than the 130 billion that has already put into that the us has already put into ukraine, where theres no receipts, theres no accountability, no accountability, theres no transparency . I believe transparency . He i dont believe that the going into gaza that the money going into gaza will handled than what will be better handled than what we gone into ukraine, we see thats gone into ukraine, particularly when you see some of weapons that are being of the weapons that are being brandished by the Hamas Terrorists look very terrorists that look very familiar weapons, m4 familiar to us weapons, m4 rifles that either left rifles that were either left behind in afghanistan or have been trans transmitted from the sale in ukraine into the hands of these same terrorists. I think theres a lot more to be investigated before we follow the lead of President Biden. It was an interesting part of his speech as well from , um, his his speech as well from, um, his speech from the oval office when he said to the American People, i know you probably feel its a world away, these both these wars are a world away, but its important that we care what is the state of feeling of the ordinary American People . Ordinary American People . I think people do care. And again, when they see the carnage, whether its, you know, babies and individuals being hurt in gaza or what we saw with these atrocities that were targeted at individuals in israel , i targeted at individuals in israel, i think people are outraged and i think their hearts are broken over what weve seen on both sides. I weve seen on both sides. I think the challenge is to remind people that the atrocities that happened on october 7th were targeted at civilians. And any targeted at civilians. And any time you get into a conflict, as weve seen in the past, in the middle east, civilians will be injured. When you have have injured. When you have have a war, weve seen it in ukraine. Weve seen it in every other conflict. But reminding people that damage that that the Collateral Damage is a distinct difference than the intentional atrocities that we saw in israel and that those atrocities will continue until hamas is ripped out at the roots. But i think there is humanity in concern for the carnage and the damage and the and the deaths and casualties on both sides. Both sides. Steve, good to talk to you. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you, guys. Good morning. Good morning. Morning. Good morning. I mean, it is amazing to think that this is all happened justin think that this is all happened just in the last two weeks because it was exactly two weeks ago on october the 7th at about this time in the morning that we all looked on in as the all looked on in horror as the Palestinian Terror Group hamas attacked israel, causing israel to launch a scathing bombardment of the gaza strip, killing thousands as well. This is how breakfast has reported on a war that has divided opinion and challenged World Leaders to somehow try to find a way to end the bloodshed. Find a way to end the bloodshed. But sadly, were having to bnng but sadly, were having to bring to you this breaking news that israel has declared war readiness. Thats what theyre readiness. Thats what theyre calling it after surprise attacks from the gaza strip, the Palestinian Islamist group hamas launched its biggest attack on israel , with israeli officials israel, with israeli officials reporting around 2500 rockets being fired from gaza, as well as sending fighters across the border. As videos and photos of border. As videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media. So too, did images of armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. Just. Gov wahaca de man. Just. Gov wahaca de man. The idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities. Hamass capabilities. Within hours, airstrikes on gaza. The Israeli Military has said today that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight. It. Gaza overnight. It. But video just coming into the newsroom in the last few minutes has shown a refugee camp has been hit. Obviously, many has been hit. Obviously, many civilians there and before even this escalation, 80 of the population in gaza was relying on humanitarian aid. On humanitarian aid. Today , sorry. Today, sorry. Today, sorry. A lot of people, especially in southern israel , people who in southern israel, people who have had relatives killed or people who are held hostage inside gaza, they have simply said that they want to see gaza turn to rubble. They want to eradicate hamas, and they dont care how many people die. Care how many people die. Well, our main news this morning and the humanitarian crisis is escalating in gaza as israels large scale Bombing Campaign continues to flatten entire areas. Well, tens of entire areas. Well, tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south right now after israel gave palestinians living there. Just palestinians living there. Just 24 hours to leave. And boisvenu otzma we are striking at our enemies with unprecedented. Might i emphasise , this is might i emphasise, this is just the beginning. Our enemies just the beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying the price i well, at least 17 british citizens are missing or confirmed dead following hamas attacks last weekend. Just finally , i understand just finally, i understand that you knew many people whove been killed. Approximately how been killed. Approximately how many of your friends were killed . I . I cant count it. I i dont know anyone who doesnt know someone who has hurt him or injured or kidnapped or or dead. Injured or kidnapped or or dead. Well, good morning. Welcome to the program. Its horrendous news to greet you with today in gazas deadliest yet of the gazas deadliest day yet of the conflict, hundreds are feared killed in an explosion at the al al araby hospital in gaza city overnight. Overnight. The Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson has said that hundreds died at the building after what palestine officials said was an israeli airstrike. The temptation , action to the temptation, action to turn ourselves into a shouting or recriminating society must be resisted. You cant look at what resisted. You cant look at what has happened here to your mothers, your fathers , your mothers, your fathers, your grandparents, sons and daughters, children, even babies and not scream out for justice as but as he left tel aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night sky. Dumas dumping more guns and more munitions and clapping and cheering on as more bombs are dropped on 2. 3 Million People who are caged in an open air pnson who are caged in an open air prison is not the answer. You prison is not the answer. You cannot bomb your way into changing peoples minds is the americans couldnt do it. Others couldnt do it. It just wouldnt work. Work. Oh, dear me. Well, look, thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators are likely to take to the streets of london later on today. The Police Ramping up security because there are concerns, of course , that it concerns, of course, that it could turn violent because last saturday, 15 people were arrested on suspicion of offences as over 1000 officers were deployed to police. The march at the home secretary has vowed to crack down on anyone on scene supporting hamas , as olivia supporting hamas, as olivia utley is in westminster for us this morning. This morning. I mean, there are a lot of demonstrators last weekend and only 15 arrests. Why is there so much concern that this could be more violent this week . Look it more violent this week . Look it feels as though tensions have been elevating over the past couple of weeks and especially over the last week as israel has begun to return date for the atrocities that committed that hamas committed on the 7th of october. So there is concern among the metropolitan police that these protests could be more violent or more inflammatory than last weeks protests. Were expecting to see a thousand met Police Officers line the streets of london today, which is similar to last week. And the met police have put in place an added precaution of enforcing passing a particular route for protesters to use. The protest will start at marble arch at 12 00 and will then process its way down to trafalgar square. Way down to trafalgar square. This time around, if protests are found to found to have deviated from that route, they are at risk of being arrested. Another really important issue that the metropolitan police has been debating over the past few daysis been debating over the past few days is what to do about chanting. Theres one particular chanting. Theres one particular chant from the river to the sea. Palestine will be free, which is seen by many jews to be an and non jews as well to be an anti semitic slogan. An and anti semitic slogan. An and Suella Braverman. The home secretary has specifically asked the police to crack down on protesters being anti semitic. Protesters being anti semitic. Like on this occasion, the police have decided that they will allow that chant to go ahead as long as its not done in an inflammatory environment. So in front of a Jewish School or the Israeli Embassy, etcetera. But that in itself is quite a controversial decision. And im sure be met with quite sure well be met with quite a lot unease by jewish lot of unease by by jewish communities in london today. Itll be interesting and concerning really to see how this march does progress. Hopefully it will be similar to the scenes. Most of the scenes the scenes. Most of the scenes we saw last week where, as you say, only 15 people were arrested in a march of thousands and thousands. But of course, there is that increased risk of more violence and more inflammatory language after yet another week of tensions ramping up and up. Okay, olivia , for now, thank okay, olivia, for now, thank you. Well right now, the weather is also a very big story at the moment because some people are going to get a dreadful time of it today, again, im afraid. Also a bit of brightness in south could brightness in the south could reach temperatures up to 15 or 16, but certainly feels a lot colder that heavy and colder with that heavy and persistent expected to persistent rain expected to bnng persistent rain expected to bring to parts bring further flooding to parts of and northern scotland of eastern and northern scotland through the day. And even well into the night. It does show signs easing off during the signs of easing off during the evening. Therell be some showers elsewhere, but therell be some clearer spells as well. And the winds wont be quite so strong either for many through the night. Temperatures likely to dip down into single figures, well down into single figures in some spots. Generally some rural spots. Generally tomorrow offers a bit of respite. It wont completely tomorrow offers a bit of resp there wont completely tomorrow offers a bit of resp there will t completely tomorrow offers a bit of resp there will still completely tomorrow offers a bit of resp there will still be npletely tomorrow offers a bit of resp there will still be someely dry. There will still be some rain, particularly over the northern and even in the Northern Isles and even in the worst affected areas, will worst affected areas, there will still few showers on still be a few showers on sunday. Generally it looks sunday. But generally it looks like weather wont be like the weather wont be anything bad, not as anything like as bad, not as intense persistent. The intense or as persistent. The rain falling for many. Its a fine, bright day tomorrow with some spells of sunshine some decent spells of sunshine and climbing into and temperatures climbing into the even high teens. The mid or even high teens. Well, alex deakin is a weatherman and so is john kettley. Were going to be talking to him very shortly. 932 this is breakfast with stephen and anne. And now, as i said, a few minutes ago, it its weather. We wouldnt be british if we didnt talk about the weather. But the weather is very, very dangerous at the moment because its actually a second red warning. And thats been issued for parts of britain with storm babet not having finished its work yet. Its wreaking havoc in scotland as the capital city now braces itself for more torrential rain and it has claimed at least three lives so far , including a three lives so far, including a six year old man in shropshire after he was swept away by fast flowing floodwater. And now 4000 flowing floodwater. And now 4000 families in scotland have lost power, whilst others have had to evacuate their homes as well. All this comes after Leeds Bradford airport was closed. Thats because a plane skids off the runway in the water. Scotland reporter tony maguire takes a look now at some of the worst affected areas in scotland i unprecedented flooding caused by exceptional and persistent rain. Just some of the language used by the met office to describe the Severe Weather inflicted by storm babett. But on the ground, theres really no words to convey this destruction. Angus council pled with 350 homes to evacuate , but many homes to evacuate, but many chose to stay in place. Weve never flooded , although weve never flooded, although that river streets flooded, weve never flooded. So yeah, weve never flooded. So yeah, very surprised. This time, 100m down river, a caravan park lies completely submerged by the overflowing river. Slowly but surely, the water is beginning to recede. Here in river street as power is gradually returned to 28,000 affected homes. But the affected homes. But the substation here in broken in remains submerged and the damage from the water unknown, meaning that the pumps cant be powered and begin removing the rest of this water. 50m of wall gone in the river. Local resident Chris Maguire owns a home here and is frustrated that the £14 million flood defences doesnt include back up generators to cover for this very situation. This very situation. I know this is unprecedented, but last year it flooded less than 12 months. Its flooded twice now an additional red weather warning is now in place for saturday as the country braces for more wind. Rain and sleepless nights. Rain and sleepless nights. Tony maguire gb news broken when you see the water that high, you realise how powerful it is. Its not just a nuisance. Its notjust a nuisance. Its and its not just wrecking your furniture and invading your home, but its actually very, very powerful. Its a sort of an unstoppable, isnt it . When it gets like that. Lets talk to weatherman john kettley, who joins us now. John good to see you this morning. And first and you this morning. And first and foremost, what more can we can we expect . We expect . Well, it was always going to get worse through friday night and into saturday. That was the reason for the next red warning. Reason for the next red warning. And so we are still looking at another 50 to 100mm of rain to fall, especially over the mountainous areas, of course, of scotland. Much of scotland is wet again all day today. Scotland. Much of scotland is wet again all day today. So it wet again all day today. So it is going to be an atrocious situation and weve still got those very fierce winds coming in from the north sea as well. So across those northern parts, temperature sorry, not temperatures , theyre bad temperatures, theyre bad enough, theyre cold. But weve got the wind which is still gusting excess of miles an gusting in excess of 50 miles an houn gusting in excess of 50 miles an hour. Driving high hour. So thats driving high waves over the sea and into the land. So it is a very serious situation still all day long across scotland. And im afraid its going to get worse before its going to get worse before it gets better. So although theres going to be something of a lull during sunday and monday, there more rain heading our there is more rain heading our way it is going to be way and it is going to be a very, very unsettled end to october and probably into the early part november , well early part of november, as well as heavy and wind to come. I mean, i know that its very sad, actually, sometimes that we love talking but we come love talking to you, but we come to at times the weather to you at times when the weather is crisis. I dont know is in crisis. I dont know whether youve ever been flooded out of home, but it looks out of your home, but it looks absolutely terrible for people who affected and homes who are affected and whose homes are affected. As you just are affected. And as you just said, theyre going to have to brace themselves for even more before it does in the end get better. You mentioned the yeah, well, you mentioned the weather. Ive seen anything like this before myself. Well, actually, weve been for actually, weve been living for here about years. The here about 18 years. And the rainfall that weve had in the past 24, 36 hours is unimpressive , rented for me. Unimpressive, rented for me. Weve had about 70mm falling on my garden, which is totally undennater at the moment, down the bottom end. Anyway and it is pretty nasty. Its awful. Its pretty nasty. Its awful. Its not what you want to see, but a lot of its drained away through the night. But there is more rain to come, as i say, and that doesnt mean to say that its a situation which is going to be repeated repeated in months repeated and repeated in months and its just one and years to come. Its just one of complicated, of these rather complicated, complex that weve complex situations that weve seen over the past week. We started off with storm barbette moving in across southern ireland. You remember about ireland. If you remember about tuesday, wednesday time and cork over there was pretty badly hit. But there was heavy rain across many parts of southern britain as well. Now, storm barbette moved further north, but its been enhance by further low pressure , deepening areas of low pressure, deepening areas of low pressure, deepening areas of low pressure coming out of there. Biscay from spain and portugal. And thats the reason weve seen more and prolonged rain more heavy and prolonged rain across britain to and across southern britain to and it hasnt been moving at the same fact, its been same extent. In fact, its been absolutely across absolutely gridlocked across many of england yesterday many parts of england yesterday and wales as well. It and into wales as well. It wasnt anywhere a wasnt moving anywhere in a hurry because winds were hurry because the winds were lighter absolutely lighter and it was absolutely pivoting in the place for pivoting in the same place for about to 24 hours. Thats the about 18 to 24 hours. Thats the reason i got all my rain yesterday. And thats the reason that many other parts of southern britain have been southern britain have also been extremely wet. And we mustnt forget england and wales have been with this been very badly hit with this series storms and over in series of storms and over in wattisham in suffolk, theyve had Something Like 112mm in the past 72 hours. So theres an awful lot of flooding going on in other parts of the country as well as northern scotland. Been made worse, of course, in northern scotland because of the fierce winds which continue to blow the north sea and blow in off the north sea and what worries and i may what worries me, john, and i may be youll able to put be wrong, youll be able to put me right on this is that even when to sort go when things start to sort of go back normal, you like, back to normal, if you like, theres going to be a lot of ground saturated, isnt there, already . Which is that could that be problematic the next few problematic over the next few weeks . Weeks . Think its going to yeah, i think its going to be a huge problem actually, steve. And is because this steve. And it is because this water going anywhere in a water isnt going anywhere in a hurry because time hurry now because at this time of year dont get the of the year you dont get the heat to evaporate anything. So heat to evaporate anything. So its in the ground. Its its stuck in the ground. Its just seeping very slowly just seeping very, very slowly downwards. And the are downwards. And the days are getting shorter. And well getting shorter. And well change the clocks next week. Well going to get well we and it is going to get colder. Theres no question about that. Were going to get colder. Weather, windy colder. Wetter weather, windy weather and weather at times. And the problem time of the year problem at this time of the year and seen many times in and weve seen it many times in the this is not unique, the past, this is not unique, but we getting the residual but we keep getting the residual tropical and hurricanes Tropical Storms and hurricanes getting into the stream, getting into the jet stream, feeding across atlantic. And feeding across the atlantic. And thats situation were going thats the situation were going to right into november. And to get right into november. And the latest Tropical Storm thats developing now in the Leeward Islands is called tammy, not wynette , just tammy. But that wynette, just tammy. But that looks like it will engage the jet stream eventually, and that could bring some torrential rainfall again. So fierce winds, gales , heavy rain. And this gales, heavy rain. And this water just cant go anywhere in a hurry. A hurry. Oh, dear me, john. Its always as always, its lovely to talk to you. Thank you. Gosh , i would not want to be gosh, i would not want to be on a ship in the bay of biscay at the moment. Have you ever. Have you ever been at sea . Its been really stormy. I mean, i get seasick on a punt. I mean, i get seasick on a punt. Really do. Punt. Really do. So id be you wouldnt enjoy it all . It at all . No, no, no, i wouldnt. No, no, no, i wouldnt. I was on a cruise ship once that was doing the bay of biscay. Thats the problem. If you to go on a cruise from you want to go on a cruise from britain to anywhere warm, you have do the of biscay. Have to do the bay of biscay. And that is really nasty. Even when actually when its actually quite millpond if youre millpond y. If youre if youre subject to seasickness. And i really was. I remember there was really was. I remember there was a painting hanging on the wall of my cabin and every it of my cabin and every time it rocked, the painting came off the wall and rocked back against the wall and rocked back against the that. And the only the wall like that. And the only place felt as though i could place i felt as though i could just everything was just hold everything in was literally sitting on the floor and at one stage, lying on the floor. But there were lots of people on the cruise ship said to me, oh, you dont know. You know, its perfectly fine. Its perfectly you used to it. Maybe you do, but i wouldnt be on it long enough to get used to it. No, no. If you have a strong stomach, sometimes to do the bay of biscay helicopter think. Biscay helicopter off, i think. Yes. Anyway everyone yes. Anyway look, everyone hates of the alarm hates the sound of the alarm clock the morning, clock going off in the morning, if it, which i didnt if you hear it, which i didnt yesterday. But do you hit the Snooze Button . Apparently. Its good for your brain. Its just prolongs i think its just prolongs the agony. The agony. Yeah. Anyway, well tell you more a moment. Now, do you know your profit from your net profits or gross profit from your net profit . Apparently 2 in 5 of us claim to know when our colleagues pretend to understand financial terminology and jargon. But they dont. Yeah, but you do, dont you . Yeah. Yeah , well, im a northerner yeah, well, im a northerner because it Means Nothing to me. And thats astonishing really, because it comes as 45 of people were told who actually work in the finance sector have witnessed serious errors in their workplace due to the misunderstandings of basic financial terminology, which is a bit bad in their line of work. Well, it is 45. Thats nearly half of the people they work with. See you. Finances are all right. No, no. Lets talk to someone who knows about money because she set up a Company Founder of green and blacks chocolate joe. Fairly good to see you this morning. Its caused a lot of excitement having you on the show for reasons apart from money, i have to say, you with chocolate, you can imagine. I mean, youre behind an incredibly successful brand, but when you started off, did you actually know what you were doing . When it comes to the finances. Finances. I was so naive. The first i was so naive. The first cases of chocolate i delivered to a nearby delicatessen, they gave me £26. 34 in cash. And i went home to craig, my Business Partner and co founder, and said, oh, i love business. You get to sell something for one price. And buy it for one price. Sell it for another and keep the money in between. And so i absolutely didnt understand the difference between gross profit and net profit and all of those things ive had to learn on my business journey and so i think its really important for anybody who is in business working in a Large Organisation has any kind of interface with people in the financial world that they actually add to their life skills and bone up on financial jargon. Its going to financial jargon. Its going to make life easier in the workplace. Its going to make life just it will actually ennch life just it will actually enrich the way you interact with anyone in in you know, wearing anyone in in you know, wearing any kind of financial hat at all. I mean, really , we should be i mean, really, we should be teaching it in school, shouldnt we . And it should be a fundamental subject that youre youre made to do. Never mind rishi sunak wanting us all to do maths till were 18 and somewhere along the line it should be financial wariness. Should be financial wariness. It absolutely should be. But they dont teach it in schools and there is an organisation who actually carried out the research called the institute of accounting technicians, which is basically the institute of lots of people who work in, in, in the finance sectors of our companies, etcetera. And they do offer a series of courses ranging from a half a day, a couple of hours through to apprenticeships and degrees in building your skill set, you know, learning the financial jargon and all of the terms and practises that go with it. So i think its really important to actually fill that gap. While actually fill that gap. While the School System catches up with the kind of skills that we need to navigate daily life. I mean, the problem is its notjust i mean, the problem is its not just about because im thinking of people ive known over the years whove got things wrong. And the problem is you wrong. And the problem is you can land yourself in whole lot can land yourself in a whole lot of because at bottom can land yourself in a whole lot of of because at bottom can land yourself in a whole lot of of this acause at bottom can land yourself in a whole lot of of this isruse at bottom can land yourself in a whole lot of of this is dealing bottom can land yourself in a whole lot of of this is dealing witthtom can land yourself in a whole lot of of this is dealing with then line of this is dealing with the taxman isnt it . Thats where people thats where people go wrong. And got big wrong. And thats got big consequences. Consequences. Is it . Absolutely is. And the is it . Absolutely is. And the art has come up with a list of terms that people really very often dont understand. They dont understand what tax deductible means. Many of them dont even understand what paye is. And, you know, these are people who are getting their pay packet at the end of the week or the end of the month. And, you know, maybe its because weve just got talking about money in this country generally. But i think it needs to be much more part of daily life. And as i say , you know, these courses at tate. Org. Uk are for everybody. Theyre not just for people who work in finance , who want to work in finance, who want to develop a career in in commerce or, you know, the business world. Theyre for anyone who pays tax bill, anybody who who is self employed or has a start up, you know, its all really useful stuff and its stuff that i wish id known when i started green and blacks because i had to kind of bluff my way through it. And thats incredibly common as well. I think Something Like 45 of people have bluff their way through some kind of financial conversation session, according to the chat, you know, and that all adds to imposter syndrome. You know, were in a job. We sometimes feel we dont deserve to be there , that we deserve to be there, that we havent quite got the right qualifications or the right vocabulary. And what ive vocabulary. And what ive learned, having had imposter syndrome myself over the years in in kind of big roles , was in in kind of big roles, was that actually when you acquire skills, when you learn how to do something and youre like, actually, im not an imposter. I do know this stuff and then you can relax and get on with the job. Do you think i mean, we were being whimsical a minute ago when stephen said, oh, im quite good at money, but then i am from the north. Do you think there is a regional difference between certain people and certain people are canny when it comes to money and other people never will be. I think the further north you get there is a culture of frugality. I get there is a culture of frugality. I have get there is a culture of frugality. I have observed this. Frugality. I have observed this. Ihave frugality. I have observed this. I have had Business Partners who come from from scotland and definitely notice the kind of, you know , looking after the you know, looking after the pennies so the pounds will look after themselves , etcetera. So after themselves, etcetera. So maybe there is a cultural difference. Yes, but i dont think it matters whether youre a canny person or a lavish spender. I a canny person or a lavish spender. I still a canny person or a lavish spender. I still think that spender. I still think that those fundamentals need to be in place, that understanding of money and how it works and how to speak the language. To speak the language. Joe, its really good to talk to you this morning. Really appreciate it. Thank you very much indeed. Ill leave you with just butterscotch. Just one word, butterscotch. Each should you should you have to say that art. Org. Uk is the place to go if anyone does want to sign up for one of these courses as well. Courses as well. Serious message actually. Okay overcoming the request for chocolate. Oh, yes. Chocolate. Oh, yes. Right. Right. Yeah. Well and ill tell you what, you cannot know too much about money. No, i quite agree, because i think the reason why people in the north are better with money often is because they have less often is because they have less of it. And therefore you have to look after it very well. Be yeah, there you go. Be yeah, there you go. All traditional. Theyve had less of it, put it that way anyway. Snooze button, do you like the Snooze Button on like to hit the Snooze Button on your its good your alarm . Apparently its good for i cant. I think of for you. I cant. I can think of nothing worse. Actually. No. No. Because all you know, if you hit button is youve hit the Snooze Button is youve got minutes. Thats not got ten more minutes. Thats not enough to back sleep. Enough time to go back to sleep. Really and its just a really yeah. And its just a time to. To sit thinking, oh, that alarm is going to go off any minute now. Just your any minute now. So just get your feet bed get on with it. Lets talk to sleep expert dr. Lindsay browning. Morning to you, lindsay. Is it a good thing to do, to hit sleep or. Not we to do, to hit sleep or. Not we cant hear you, lindsay. You cant hear you, lindsay. You have to unmute yourself. Lindsay , if you can. Lindsay, if you can. Lindsay, if you can. Oh, it might be our end. Oh, it might be our end. It might be our end. It might be our end. Well see if we can sort that. I think the Snooze Button is like torture. Its like somebody saying wake up, oh no, dont wake up, wake dont wake up. Wake up, but dont wake up. Yeah, yeah. Right . Yeah, yeah. Right . Yeah, yeah. Its just be honest, its just to be honest, apparently, i theyre apparently, i think theyre saying its sort of helps your brain to sort of slowly wake up. But just find it. Wake up in brain to sort of slowly wake up. B badjust find it. Wake up in brain to sort of slowly wake up. B bad moodld it. Wake up in brain to sort of slowly wake up. B bad mood if it. Wake up in brain to sort of slowly wake up. B bad mood if ive wake up in brain to sort of slowly wake up. B bad mood if ive got. up in brain to sort of slowly wake up. B bad mood if ive got. If|p in a bad mood if ive got. If im lying there, i wonder about those alarm clocks that sort of increase slightly. Increase the light slightly. And get you oh, yeah. And try and get you up oh, yeah. And try and get you p by oh, yeah. And try and get you up by the light. Thats not a bad idea, lindsay. Hear lindsay. Hopefully we can hear you now. Hello . Yes. Oh, im so sorry. Hello . Yes. Oh, im so sorry. We can hear you. Yeah, i cant remember what our question was but basically, why was now, but basically, why would you to hit snooze . Well, the research showed that there a very, very small that there is a very, very small potential benefit of hitting snooze. However, the negatives hugely outweigh it. So generally hugely outweigh it. So generally speaking , hitting snooze really speaking, hitting snooze really disrupts your sleep. But it can help you get to a lighter part. So when you wake up to the alarm clock, you know, sometimes well wake up and itll be quite abrupt and well wake up and feel pulled out of sleep. But. Feel pulled out of sleep. But. Sorry, but the youve youve forgotten your train of thought. Its very easy to do. Ill tell you this at this end of the morning, because we all use tussling with it at 3 00 in the morning. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So what i was saying. Im so sorry. When we press snooze, it gets us back into sleep again. But it helps to pull us out of that deepest part sleep. And that deepest part of sleep. And if up really if were woken up really abruptly from sleep, we abruptly from deep sleep, we might that were just might find that were just pulled awake and it pulled into being awake and it feels dreadful. So so pressing snooze can help pull you gently into that lighter part of sleep. Into that lighter part of sleep. But its the sacrifice of but its at the sacrifice of actually sleeping. So this research, it was only 31 people that they tested and they found that they tested and they found that they tested and they found that they felt more able to do Cognitive Tasks straight upon waking. But to be fair, they did miss out on sleep overall. So pressing snooze is really not a great idea. No, no. I think to be perfectly honest, lindsay, the only Cognitive Task i need to do is turn the coffee machine on. Yes, thats important part the thats an important part of the ritual. Important part, i think. The important part, i think. Lindsay, good to you. Lindsay, good to see you. Thank very much. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Indeed. Short, very much indeed. Short, short sweet. Like pressing short and sweet. Like pressing the Snooze Button. Yeah just the Snooze Button. Yeah i just think its a recipe for think its a its a recipe for disaster me. My feet are disaster for me. If my feet are not straight out of its not straight out of bed, its the only to do it. The only way to do it. You have to disciplined, you have to be disciplined, you know, youre in the you know, like youre in the army something. Get of army or something. Get out of bed. Now. Thats the only way to do it. Really . Yeah, thats. How we yeah, thats. Thats how we do and then have something to and then have something to look like a lovely look fonnard to, like a lovely cup of coffee or something. Yeah. Yeah. Downstairs. Get the machine on, then at on, have a coffee and then at least start to face the day. Yeah, it. However over. Yeah, it. However over. Thats something we did. Hours and hours and hours and hours now. So thats it from hours ago now. So thats it from us but do stay tuned us right now. But do stay tuned because are because esther and phil are going be here any minute now going to be here any minute now with morning from with saturday morning live from him bye bye for a moment well. Hello. Well. Hello. Glad you could join us. Hello. Im welcome to saturday morning live here on gb news. Now i love a Community Party activist kind of story. And what activist kind of story. And what weve got on the knots derbyshire border there, a Little Village called jacksdale. Little village called jacksdale. Well, all of the community are coming together here because. Because storm babet is absolutely battering the country. Theyre going to come together to prevent the flooding they had four years ago, and were going to catch up with them. The country affected by. Absolutely terrible, isnt it . And obviously, earlier this week, a terrible night week, it was a terrible night for conservatives with two for the conservatives with two by election in by election defeats in previously of previously safe seats of tamworth and mid bedfordshire deught tamworth and mid bedfordshire delight party. Delight for the labour party. Well be speaking to luke tryl for more common to go through for more in common to go through his latest polling what it his latest polling about what it will for the next general will mean for the next general election. Labour the election. Have labour got the next election the bag and next election in the bag and pension protesters have you seen all those pensioners on the front line glueing themselves to the road, sticking themselves to bridges . Were going to speak to just one say why is it because one and say why is it because you feel nows the time to do it or youve just too much time or youve just got too much time on your hands . What do you think . I think they think we dont anymore. To a dont care anymore. Get to a certain dont care. Certain age. We dont care. And the this weekend big weekend of sport and its will be speaking to Harry Redknapp later in the show too but the
