Say goodbye to one of the ways to get on the Main Street bridge from downtown Jacksonville as of April 15.
That's when the Florida Department of Transportation shuts down the Independent Drive ramp to the southbound Main Street bridge permanently.
When the ramp next to the site of the former Jacksonville Landing is shut down, motorists on Independent Drive who want to get to San Marco and parts beyond will have to go under the blue bridge. They will have to turn left on West Bay Street, then left onto the Main Street bridge.
FYI — during deconstruction of the ramp, the west pedestrian sidewalk on the bridge will be closed. People will be detoured to the east pedestrian access to the bridge. The $584,000 project should be completed this summer, the FDOT said.
