Hi, lisa. Hey, chris. It will be a warm one. A shortlived warmup for the weekend, today, tomorrow and then cooler temperatures arrive. We have the first hurricane of the 2019 season in the atlantic. It is named barry, and the winds are topping out near 75 miles per hour, south Southeast Louisiana has been hit with several inches of rain and the right front quadrant of this system is bringing the heavy rain, the storm surge. They also have lake pontchartrain, but this will make landfall in the next few hours with the very heavy rain, the mid mississippi valley, the Tennessee River valley, and then you can see into sunday it does weaken but the rain threat does not. In fact, we are looking at several inches of rain, perhaps in feet where you see it shaded in yellow and pink here. So this is what were worried about, that storm surge, the flash flooding, and as it moves to the north. But early on it looked like things were going okay with the mid with the Mississippi River being around 17 feet, and now things are beginning to get a little more active. You can see much of the southeast, arkansas, mississippi, louisiana and florida inundated with that system as it travels on shore. Abc News Reporter Elizabeth Hur is live in the storm zone with the latest. Good morning,h. Eporter , good morning to you. Yes, we just forecasters th abc news, they tell us the outer bands of hurricane barry have reached the coast of louisiana and we are still waiting for the eye of the storm to make that official landfall that we all talk about. But whether or not the storm is people authorities say, rather, they have been warning residents all week to prepare for what they call a life threatening storm. That is why all across louisiana right now there are mandatory and voluntary evacuations, and in some areas residents are being urged to shelter in place because this slowmoving storm could dump up to 20 inches of rain in some areas over the span of this entire weekend. So why that is concerning for officials here is because after a wet spring, the rivers in this area are already swollen. So, yes, it is concerninbuthis they remain hopeful and almost cautiously optimistic that the levees will not fail, and as far as their preparations are concerned they say they are ready.
