His Campaign Says sanders has seen an out pouring of support in california particularly among young and latino voters. The rally starts at 1 30 at the San Jose Convention center. Doors open at 11 30. It is free and open to the public. The South Carolina prime is in the books now. It was joe bidens contest to lose but he held strong there. The former Vice President took a decisive victory winning by nearly 30 points. It will give his campaign a crucial boost heading into super tuesday. Its his first ever win as a president ial candidate. Senator sanders came in a far second. Despite coming in third, San FranciscoBillionaire Tom Steyer dropped out of the race last night. Steyer spent nearly 24 million on tv ads in South Carolina alone. A lot of money. Yesterday was his strongest finish yet. He said theres no question his campaign is disappointed with where they stood. Honestly, i cant see a path where i can win the presidency. I of course will be supporting. I said from the beginning, every democrat is a million times better than trump. Trump is a disaster. After super tuesday 40 will be awarded. Sanders is leading in several key super tuesday states. To the race for 2020, ahead of tonights abc 7 special documentary chasing california, the race for prosecute tuesday throughout our reporting one question among democratic voters, which candidate can beat donald trump. Its the question of socalled electability. What exactly is electability and who has it . Youll see that followed by lizs conversation with news contributor and chronicle insider phil matier. Were at Warren Campaign office in San Francisco where Julian Castro is. When i talk to californians number one priority i hear, to defeat donald trump. First thing weve got to do is get rid of donald trump. We will make him a oneterm president. Id vote for warren, amy klobuchar, biden, bernie, just who i think has the chance. No data to show what makes a candidate electable. Electability is a myth. Leblt electability, for some people thats a code ward to say, oh, you cant get a minority, you cant get a woman. You cant do this, you cant do that. I feel like Elizabeth Warren has done all of her homework. Its like voting for her. Im with abc 7 in the bay area. Yes. One, two, three, four, were working. Am i good here . Big picture, why is warren, in your opinion, the best person to go against trump in the general. She can appeal to the working class. She has a strong track record of fighting for every day american families. And shes built a very broadbased coalition. She can go to diverse states like florida, and even arizona, and win those states against trump. All right. So phil, you watched the debates. You hear the candidates. One after the next continuously says this is why im the one who can beat trump. This is why im the one who can beat trump. The messaging in a way is so consistent between the candidates. It is. Two parts. One, this is why i can beat trump, and this is why that other person cant. Im joined now by San Francisco columnist and abc 7 contributor phil matier. As we end this series weve been exploring in the california primary, we wanted to explore the number one issue voters said is important to them and that is this question of electability, who can beat trump. Exactly. Electability is an elusive goal everyone says i have what it takes. Bernie says he has the organization. Bloomberg says he has the business credentials and the money to do it. Biden says i have the experience and middle of the road. Amy klobuchar says i have the experience middle of the road. Warren says im bernie but more palatable and can get things done. Pete buttigieg says im the calm here. I can find everybody. All of them claim to be ele electable and awaiting the results. All of them are elect able. Any of them could beat donald trump in headtohead matchups. We dont know if they would or could. The question is can you have electability. Ill call out pundits, donald trump is making these statements, actions, seemed to be deliberately torpedoing his campaign and he was elected. You can talk about popular versus electoral. The bottom line is, yes. You try to measure it through the primary. See who has the organization, sigh whose message is selling. Most importantly, see who can get crossover people to come with them. A few days away from super tuesday. Were almost there. Its interesting to look at the ground game. We talk about enthusiasm, were seeing a lot of enthusiasm for Bernie Sanders in the state. Hes been campaigning a lot. Hes coming on sunday. Bernie sanders has been campaigning for president for six years at least, okay, so he has the organization out there in the early states of iowa and new hampshire. The others had to go from the ground up and build it. They were more preoccupied with that. Bernie has the freedom to come to california more often. He has a good ground game here but buttigieg has a ground game here. Others and warren has a ground game. Warren has somewhat of a ground game. An air game and ground game. Everything. Youre going to see a lot. We havent seen warren as much as we could. We have seen surrogates. Julian castro, as you saw in our piece, was out there campaigning for her this week. Other surrogates. Joe biden on friday. We are seeing surrogates for these candidates come. Well see if it makes a difference. We see them all the time on tv no matter what. I think people are ready to vote. The question is which of the candidates are going to get them out to the polls. Lots of questions. Lots to look forward to. See the piece on electability on abc7news. Com chasingca. Weve been covering this primary for months exploring issues impacting the race and going oneonone for candidates. For indepth look at the efforts to win california on super tuesday, join us for our abc 7 originals documentary chasing california, the race to super tuesday. It airs tonight at 6 p. M. Of course, that is only on abc 7. As we mentioned earlier this morning, forecast looking real good for tuesday. You cannot use that as an excuse to not go vote. Yeah. We really need to change the weather pattern. We talked a little bit by the end of the upcoming workweek. Were also talking about record warmth. How can we have both . A little difficult. Were going to sort it out with what to expect in the week ahead. Today another cool sunday. Winds will kick up. Weve got a wind advisory but some sun on the way. Well talk about the warmth, the offshore flow, and maybe a few sprinkles next in my accuweather forecast. Sprinkles will take you. Thank you, lisa. Good morning, lisa. Good morning. We saved the cool weather for the weekend, windy weather going to come back today. Not bad. Beautiful view from mount tam. Isnt that pretty . Just a little scattering of light out there as the sun has come up about 10 minutes ago looking at that sunset after 6 00. Wind advisory 10 00 hills of the north and east bay interior valleys of the east bay. By 4 00 were looking at the peninsula and points south. Were talking winds of 15 to 25 miles an hour out of the north. So thats offshore. Going to get quite gusty. Could see 45mileanhour gusts. Everyone will feel the winds tonight. It is going to be a blustery evening. The first part of the day not bad. Check it out. A beautiful view here from santa cruz. A dry month. Looking at continuation of a dry pattern at least to start the first week of march. Can you see just a few returns there but really were talking about cloud cover across the bay area. A few fringe else, central coast, southern california, and a burst of snow in the mountains. Sea lions here downtown where temperatures are in the 40s, San Francisco, oak, 41 in san jose. It is 36 in gilroy. You can see the view from san jose where it is a little gray. Partly cloudy skies. 46 in livermore. Our snow in the mountains through noontime talking about Winter Weather advisory, about 6 to come here. Partly cloudy skies, cool today. Okg a pattern later on to start the upcoming workweek. The end of the week looking more interesting. 2 to 5 of snow in the mountains and then we talked about those winds. They are really going to kick up out of the north. Thats an offshore component. So the relative humidity decreases. Were drying out the atmosphere. Weve had no rain for february. The moisture isnt totally dry, certainly moisture out there but not enough to keep us comfortable. As we go through the 5 00 hour, check how fast winds are, 30 to 40 miles an hour and were look continuing into your monday. Temperatures climb as a ridge of High Pressure builds in for monday. Were a bit concerned about that. So you should certainly take it easeo easy if youre going to be outside today. You will with the numbers. Check out tuesday. Mid and upper 70s again. By wednesday things begin to change. Looks like the ridge wants to break down. By friday could see a few light showers. Were talking very minimal. A longways away. Saturdays painting a wet picture as well. Hopefully that holds together. Cool day, 50s in the peninsula. Well do that again with winds picking up second half of the day, 60 palo alto, low 60s inland, accuweather sevenday forecast, cool on the coast, windy throughout the day. Those offshore winds for march not what we want after a dry month but its a warm several days before we cool back and hopefully break some rain through this dominant ridge, this stubborn ridge with us way too long. If we go to march 11th, that will be 43 dry days. Another record, so hopefully not. Incredible we didnt see any measurable rain for entire month of february. Hopefully we dont ease through march with the same issues there. Its got to change. Something has to give. Thank you, lisa. If youre in the car annual auto issue with the exclusive top car picks.
