Developing news out of San Francisco this morning. Police are investigating a crash that sent a woman to the hospital with serious injuries. All of this happened around 930 last night at fifth and market streets. Firefighters say this woman was walking when a car hit her and then a cruise car ran over her. Abc7 News Reporter lena howland live in San Francisco with new information from police and from crews. Lena well, San Francisco fire Officials Say one woman is still in serious condition and at last check is still being treated at the hospital right now after they say she was found trapped underneath a cruise Autonomous Vehicle without a driver when they showed up on scene. Now, this all happened around 930 last night, near fifth. And market crews claims a human driven car hit the woman first, saying the impact was so severe it launched the pedestrian in directly in front of their Autonomous Vehicle. San Francisco Police are investigating, although they would not confirm if this was a hit and run or what the victim was doing in the street at the time of the crash. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to pull the woman out. And police say this was a first for them. We have not seen a vehicle collision involving injuries of this nature with an Autonomous Vehicle. Any incident involving the injury of anyone on our streets is a big concern for the police, whether they be involving cars with drivers or cars that dont have drivers. Crews. The Driverless Car Company released a statement overnight saying the Autonomous Vehicle then braked aggressively to minimize the impact. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene and at the request of police, the ave was kept in place. Crews added that they are actively working with police to find the other driver responsible. Live in San Francisco, lena howland, abc seven news. Lena, thank you. In the south bay, an Investigation Underway after two children drowned in a pool at an inhome daycare. It happened just after nine yesterday morning at. Happy, happy daycare. Thats in san joses Almaden Valley neighborhood on fleetwood drive. Youre looking at video now from sky seven. Youll see the pool has a fence, gate and pool cover. So far, police arent saying much about how this happened. We know a total of three children fell into the pool and that two of them died. That third child was hospitalized and is expected to recover. It just makes my heart and i feel bad for the families because we do. When i take her to school, we watch. We watch the families bring their kids and so we see their faces. Its heartbreaking. It really is. According to the department of social services, the Home Daycare Center was licensed to two women in january of 2021. The state has conducted a total of eight visits, including inspections. The purpose of one visit was to discuss the pool in 2021. The licensee has had to adjust the pool fence. The chaos on capitol hill continues this morning. That bipartisan agreement buying the house more time came after mccarthy failed to win over hard line conservatives who were blocking his stopgap proposals and refusing to support the new Ukraine Defense funding. This happened around 930 last night at fifth and market streets. Firefighter say the woman has serious injuries. Lena reggie were here at cruise headquarters where the Company Released a statement saying that even though the victim was found trapped underneath one of their driverless cars, they say that it was actually a human driven car that hit the woman first apparent just one lane over. Now, the Autonomous Vehicle company says the initial impact was severe and launched the pedestrian directly in front of the av. The av then braked aggressively to minimize the impact. Around 75,000 Kaiser PermanenteHealth Care Workers nationwide, including here in the bay area, could soon be on a three day strike. An Umbrella Organization of about a dozen unions representing the workers say they plan to strike starting wednesday morning if they cant come to a new working agreement with kaiser. I want to make sure that my employment i can take im thinking about my patient all the time, not thinking about. I have to take a second job to be able to, you know, to survive. Sonia ellen smith works as a kaiser Radiology Technician in oakland. She says issues like chronic understaffing, low pay and worker burnout are some of the top issues she and her colleagues want addressed. Ellen smith tells me while these issues have been around for years, the pandemic has made them worse. Now, she says, its impacting patient care because kaiser simply doesnt have enough people. Actually, every patient that comes in is there as if they were my mom or as if they were my brother, my family members. If a strike were to happen, Kaiser Permanente says their hospitals and Emergency Departments would remain open. But that some nonurgent medical appointments may need to be rescheduled.
