Im dan ashley, the san jose nonprofit that took in these migrants is confirming to us this was a group of adults and children originally from south america. They were first left. They were left, i should say, at rst. And Willow Street over the weekend, right near a local church. Abc seven news south bay reporter Lauren Martinez is looking into how they got here and what comes next. A san jose nonprofit is connecting 12 undocumented immigrants to vital resources after they were reportedly dropped off. A member from the organization Amigos De Guadalupe Center confirmed a group of adults and children were bused in from el paso, texas and dropped off in the guadalupe, Washington Neighborhood on saturday evening. He said theyre connecting them with resources, food, clothing and health centers. That journey to be here at this moment has been troc matic and there is no journey that is easy. But Linda Hernandez arriaga worked with the bay area border relief for two years in south texas. She saw firsthand the desperate ocean, hunger and fear in people seeking asylum. Its all brand new. Every single thing, every single day is a new day for them. And so theyre also in a transition of emotionally and psychologically a shock coming from the border cities across the nation and the state have received migrants who have been bussed or flown in. In june, state officials said more than a dozen migrants were dropped off at a church in sacramento from florida. Attorney general rob bonta issued a Public Record request to florida authorities over, quote, deceptive and immoral migrant transports. In august, abc news said ten busses of migrants from texas were dropped off in l. A. County paired to other states. Arriaga said the medical care Asylum Seekers receive in california is better. Very good. Wraparound services by our counties, both san mateo county, Santa Clara County have one of the most amazing Mental Health system. Medical systems, especially for the children. San joses director for the office of Racial Equity released this statement to abc7 news. You see that child, that aunt that grandparent, just like you, just like me in san jose, Lauren Martinez, abc seven news to morrow will be a somber day in San Francisco as the late senator and former city mayor Dianne Feinsteins body will lie in state inside city hall. Feinstein died last week at the age of 90 of natural causes. This begins two days of Public Events in the city to honor her. Abc seven News Reporter j. R stone spoke with people about their thoughts about Dianne Feinstein. She was a legend. The late Dianne Feinstein will be remembered on wednesday and thursday at San Francisco city hall. Already her bust or statue is there surrounded by flowers. I think as someone who was raised by women who were told that if they were very lucky, they could be a senators wife but not a senator for Dianne Feinstein was one of my first introductions to the idea that i really could be anyone i wanted to be. Wednesday, the body of the late San Francisco mayor and us senator will lie in state inside the rotunda of city hall from 9 a. M. To 7 p. M. Thursday. Her Memorial Service will be held on the front steps of city hall at 1 p. M. Dianne feinstein has been such a integral part of the history of the city and so sort of theres these moments living in San Francisco where you just witness history, and i think this will be a part of that. Shes been a lion of the senate, a lioness of the senate. This city, i mean, she steered it through. One of the biggest tragedy is that a city could go through preparation for the events are already underway with flags flying at half staff in memory of feinstein. Many hoping to see both democrats and republicans in attendance. It would not be a surprise for this to be one of the places where you see people bridge the political divide and come together to celebrate a life. Because one of the things she has always been able to do is reach across the aisle knowing how to play the game, knowing how to walk the political line and get things done. Still is something really important that a lot of people, not just women, can can take from that. Talk about a public servant. I think Dianne Feinstein just really sums up what what that looks like. Keep in mind, if you are coming here on wednesday to pay your respects to the late Dianne Feinstein, you will have to go through security to get inside city hall. And they are hand checking all bags. So that could add time to your weight in San Francisco. J. R. Stone abc seven news and we will stream the Memorial Service as it happens at 1 p. M. At city hall in San Francisco on thursday. And tonight, the interim gop speaker just booted nancy pelosi from her honorary Capitol Office as the office of speaker of the house of the United States house of representatives is hereby declared vacant. Florida congressman matt gaetz gave the motion to vacate. Its the first time in American History a House Speaker has been removed this way. Representative mccarthy spoke about. His ouster earlier today, saying he will not run again. You know, it was personal. It had nothing to do about spending. It had nothing to do about everything. He accused somebody of. He was doing. It all was about getting attention from you. Now, representative Patrick Mchenry of North Carolina is serving as speaker pro tem until a new speaker election can take place in one of his first orders of business, he evicted speaker emerita. Nancy pelosi from the Capitol Building office. She got to keep pelosi is here in San Francisco to honor senator feinstein. Sunny skies in the absence of any overnight marine layer, 62 degrees, then in 60, around the bay and nearly 60 on the coast. By noon, well see 80, 82 degrees low 80s in our inland areas or 80 around the bay shoreline. And mid 70s on the coast by 4 p. M. Low to mid 90s inland, upper 80s to near 90 around the bay, mid to upper 70s on the coast. And then sun will set about 648 tomorrow evening. So by 7 p. M. Clear skies, no marine layer and still mild to warm even at that hour of the evening ill have the complete accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. Dan looks pretty good spencer thank you. Touch base in a minute. Now to the developing news on a major impending strike of Kaiser Permanente. Health care workers just hours away now and no deal yet, meaning we could see up to 75,000 workers across multiple states walk off the job. It would be the Largest Health care strike in us history. And a lot of those workers are here in california. Abc7 News Reporter tim johns has been all over this story this week. He is in the newsroom now with how you might be affected. Tim dan Union Workers are set to go on strike for three days starting tomorrow at 6 00 in the morning. However they told me they will continue to be at that bargaining table as long as kaiser reps are willing to meet them. There after another day of negotiations on tuesday, no agreement was reached on a new working contract between Kaiser Permanente and tens of thousands of its employees. The unions representing those workers saying theyre ready to strike starting wednesday morning if no last minute compromise is reached. The crisis is right now, and i think that its getting worse. Sonia allen smith is on one of the bargaining teams and works as a Radiology Technician in oakland. She says some of the top concerns Union Members want addressed are chronic understaffing, worker burnout and low pay. Health care workers should be able to focus on taking care of patients when theyre at work. They shouldnt have to worry about where theyre going to sleep at at night. Kaiser says if a strike does happen, theyre prepared. They have assured patients their hospitals and ers will remain open, even if some Nonemergency Services might have to be rescheduled in a statement, they told abc7 news that while talks are ongoing, several provisions have already been reached. I wouldnt say its a crisis. On the other hand, i wouldnt say its something thats a mild inconvenience. Arnab mukherjee is the Department Chair of Public Health at cal state east bay. He says despite the preparations in place, some patients will likely still feel the impacts of a potential strike, especially those on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale. You and i may think of a 1 to 3 day delay as something that we can get through, but for certain people, rescheduling an appointment may make them consider taking another day off of work. Having to have somebody take care of their children. As for allen smith, she says workers are just fighting to be treated fairly. It is our hope that we will be able to resolve the short staffing crisis if kaiser executives come to the table and bargain in good faith. That is our hope. But we are ready to strike if need be. Now, if it happens, this strike is set to end at 6 a. M.
