The Alameda County District Attorneys Office is putting together a first of its kind organized Retail Theft Prosecution Team funded by 2 million from a state grant and a matching 2 million from the das office. Our goal is to dismantle, disrupt and deter this type of activity, this criminality, from occurring and where appropriate, to divert those that are engaging in this type of criminality. Da price says what will be different is an attempt to connect the dots between other facets of organized retail crime when its not on its surface, just the theft of. But there are Intricate Networks behind the scenes. People engaging in multiple acts of unlawful conduct, whether it be stealing a car to then engage in the theft activity. Our team will utilize different investigative tools to make those connections. Those include monitoring suspect patterns and conduct, analyzing data to support investigations and partnerships between Law Enforcement agencies, advancing prosecution on a specific track where the same District Attorney is going to represent that case through every major stage as it advances through the criminal legal system. Thats what makes this makes this first of its kind for Alameda County da price says Alameda County also faces some unique challenges that make it vulnerable to organized retail theft, including its size and geographic location. San Francisco Police are investigating a shooting that injured three people in the tenderloin. According to police, the shooting happened just before 1 00 this afternoon near golden gate avenue and leavenworth street. Witnesses say the shooter was in a car that pulled up next to a parked car and shot the people inside. Both cars then drove away after two of the injured people got out. Police found those people out on the street. A third gunshot victim later showed up at a hospital. All three of those shooting victims are expected to recover. San francisco authorities are now identifying the man killed by police after driving into the chinese consulate on monday. Officers shot 31 year old zhenyuan yuan of San Francisco after they say he drove his sedan through the building where dozens of people were inside. Today, city officials broke ground on power station block seven b, its part of the larger potrero power station mixed use project, which will transform the 29 acre site of a decommissioned power station in the dogpatch neighborhood. The first building is named in honor of former San Francisco supervisor sophie maxwell, who played a role in getting the old power station shut down. So what do we have here . When were done with this project . Were going to have 2600 units, 30, which will be affordable. The first phase will bring 105 new homes to the area. Developers say the full project will feature seven acres of parks and open space restaurants , cafes and shops, as well as access to a stretch of San Francisco waterfront. When you get up saturday morning, make sure to look up our skies will be transformed during a rare annular Solar Eclipse passing right by parts of the western us including here in the bay area. This is an opportunity to see a very rare event and that is an occasion when the moon actually is between the earth and the sun from our point of view and can actually get in front of the sun and block a large portion of it. In this case for a couple of hours. Its known as the ring of fire for three hours saturday morning, starting around 8 a. M, the sun will begin to be blocked by the moon during its orbit. Its path is much closer to us here in the bay area compared to the 2017 total Solar Eclipse and the one coming in april 2024. Thats good news for us because around 930 well see the moon cover about 70 of the sun since the sun will still be visible, you can only look at it through special eclipse glasses or through pinhole cameras. These can be naturally made from using the shadows of trees or even homemade. Its a really simple process. All you need is a cereal box, a white piece of paper and some aluminum foil. So once again, once you have your viewing device all done, youre going to want to put your back towards the sun, put your eye in one hole and watch as the sun goes through the other hole. What youre seeing is a projection, an image of the sun and the shadow of the of the moon as it passes across the sun, as millions around the country prepare to watch the eclipse. Cal iso is preparing for how to handle it. The three hour event will reduce output from grid scale and rooftop solar generation compared to a normal day. Advanced planning and forecasting have been critical to mitigate any loss. But if you dont live there, obviously, youre going to have to go somewhere where you possibly could see it. Lets talk about el nino, an advisory issued today by the climate prediction center. Theyre basically saying last month, warmer than average sea surface temperatures continuing near the equatorial pacific. El nino, 80 chance is going to continue through spring, a pretty high likelihood of a strong event this winter and a 3 in 10 chance of historic strong event that rivals. 2015, 2016 and 1997 98. As you recall 9798 was a pretty rough year. So stay tuned. But one thing to keep in mind is the cpc is saying this is not a guarantee that were going to see strong impact locally. All right. One thing we do know is its warming up today. Most areas where a couple of degrees to seven degrees warmer.
