The florida gun show intend no, sir disrespect for having this show go on right after the horrible events that happened in parkland. Reporter on display, ar15s, similar to the one used in the shooting. Theyre thinking that gun is the issue and we as deers are the problem. Were not the problem the problem is society. The president tweeting on saturday, quote, very sad that the fbi missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida School shooter. This is not acceptable. Theyre spending too much time, he wrote, trying to improve collusion with the trump campaign. There is know collusion. Get back to the basics and make us proud. Chud todd, knickss contributor and moderator of meet the press. Chuck, i know the focus of the show today is will things change after parkland. Weve seen this routine before. Both sides dig in in their arguments for the guns. Politicians say the same thing about thoughts and prayers. Forgive my skepticism, why would anything change now . Look, i know legislatively, probably nothing will change, as long as you have the sort of orientation that you have right now with republicans in charge of the house and senate. And a president who very much doesnt appear to have any interest in new gun laws. But the student activism here is something thats different. And, look, i know that ive had people say to me if 20 first graders getting mowed down doesnt change things, why would will anything change . But the student activism here does feel different. Weve not had this before after one of these shootings. These students arent just mourning, theyre angry. Theyve grown up in a generation of knowing how to build communities quickly. And their anger and heir protestations here have gone wierl fat. I think this is potentially a formidable new group of political activists here that could at least change the conversation. And thats what you have to do first, willie, before you get legislation. Yeah, those kids have been passionate and incredibly brave. Within that tweet, theres a pivot toward the russia investigation. His suggestion is that the fbi is focusing too much on russia and losing tips on potential School Shooters when is preposterous on its face. You wrote a tweet, if you work in american politics or in the government on any level and your first reaction to todays mueller indictment is how were reacting, then you need to rethink your priorities. Robert mueller made it clear to most people, including by the way, president Trumps National security adviser that there was colluding in the campaign. Not only that, willie, i think were up to a dozen tweeten since the mueller indictments were released on friday having to do in some form with the indictments and hes yet to impugn russia. Right. All of them have been some form of but my campaign. But my campaign, but my campaign. And what this means for him. I think that is whats probably got to be alarming to some folks in the intelligence community. Our allies around the world, that the president of the United States, his first reaction to this isnt, wow, we now have definitive proof of what russias doing and it was one of the closest friends of vladimir putin. He ordered this, we got to do something. That, well see how republicans on capitol hill react to this. But the president this weekend, boy, hes acting like somebody whos got something to hide, not somebody who is concerned about what russia did. A lot to talk about this morning. Chuck todd, thank you as always. Well look for much more on meet the press where chuck will dive into that question, after parkland, will anything qing, the guests, Bernie Sanders and Oklahoma Republican senator james langford. All im thinking about is maintaining my speed and trying to catch the canadian. A lot of people were surprised. If we were betting in las vegas they wouldnt have pickeded you to win the silver medal. What was the feeling to be up on that podium . I mean earlier in the year as you looked at the results they definitely progressed every world cup. And then i was able to sweep all of the distances. My goal was just to keep my composure in all of the races and make sure i could only focus on each race at a time. Definitely paid off. You did very well. Nick, you talked about the spotlight blaring on you coming out of sochi. You had personal struggles that you talked about a lot. How did you learn from the games and that experience Going Forward with you . I learn a lot from that experience. I learned how to reach out, how to ask for help. I was able to spend a couple months sort of off the grid and really get my things back together. So, its just incredible to be in the position i am today healthy, happy. My family is here. She was able to push burton out of the house on her chair before the flames engulfed it. The fire blew through everything, the front door, it burst true the windows, glass was everywhere in seconds. Im so thankful for samantha for saving my dads life. She is a hero to me. She is my hero. Indeed. Burtons son expressing his gratitude for samanthas heroic effort. Samantha received a brandnew kidney last year and shes grateful she had the strength to save a life. His two daughters and four month old grand baby were there. The family says the intruders tackled him, held him down, then ransacked the house. The thieves took about 3,000 worth of jewelry and red envelopes that had cash inside for their children and charity. What a performance, mo nature could not hold her back. She is a force of nature. Jamie anderson golden once again. That is Jamie Anderson winning the olympic gold medal in the Womens Slopestyle competition here in pyeongchang, south korea. It was the second consecutive gold medal in the event for the 27yearold california native. And she did it you heard it there in windy conditions described by some experts as the worst theyve seen in a major competition. Some said after the event the event should have been postponed. One said she just wanted to sit at the tom of the hill and cry. Andersons win four years ago in sochi made her a star. A second gold here in pyeongchang makes her a legend. Jamie and i got together on a cold fight here for a sunday sitdown. Jamie anderson owe dominant. Jamie anderson looking smooth. Returning to the top of the olympic podium was even harder than Jamie Anderson thought it would be. With temperatures in the Single Digits and shifting winds whipping at 30 miles an hour, anderson stood at the top waiting for her turn and watching rider after rider crash. Oh goes down. Almost had it. In all, 41 of the competitions 50 runs ended in a wipeout. But the defending gold medallist kept her cool and soared through what became a survivors course. Jamie anderson is golden once again. It feels unreal. I mean, i dreamed of this, i knew how amazing it would be. I didnt totally know it was possible. Anderson is known for her zenlike calm on a snowboard. She attributes her why jet strength to yoga, meditation and mindfulne mindfulness. She feld at the snowboarding event in vermont and ruptured he her spleen. She spent ten days in icu. I remember coming out of that and how i just wanted to be my best version of myself. And know its not always going to be perfect i know im going to have my moods and change with the moon most of the time. And let it be what it is. And move on. Russia, what an experience. Four years ago in sochi, russia, anderson won gold in the first ever slopestyle olympic competition. And it all came down to a single Pressure Cooker movement. What did it feel at the top of that course knowing you had to nail that run . After my first run, i felt so much pressure, im usually pretty calm and relaxed. After my second run, i could hardly handle it. With that run at the bottom, i didnt know i had won but i had a pretty good feeling. And literally, i was just so relieved the amount of stress and energy that goes into that event. And then being able to persevere and just do what i went there to do felt really, really good. When you see those final scores and you know youre the gold medallist having worked your whole life to get there, what is that feeling like . It feel like nothing of experience before. I literally just dropped down to my knees in gratitude and said thank you. A gold medal performance that made anderson a worldwide star. Whats next for you . Her postsochi whirlwind includes an appearance as a contestant in the apprentice sitting in a boardroom across from the future president of the United States. Jamie, youre fired. Was it ever overwhelming at times to have all of that focus on you . I would say, yes, it was super overwhelming. Just the amounts of media. Going around and always giving my time to other people. Of course, i wanted to capitalize on the opportunity and i pretty much said yes to everything. I kind of stayed on this float. As anderson floated on her new fame, younger skiers began to catch up. Seeing the progression of womens snowboarding in the last couple years sometimes scares me. I would think youre the queen of snowboarding now, youre the gold medallist. They should be scared of you . I think they are. Im kind of a humble warrior so i think im also mindful of whats going on around me. But i think deep down, i do know, im the gatester. If youre doing the 1080s and things you might not have done with that. I didnt think i was all that competitive. I got namaste with myself and yogied out. And im competitive, even with just myself. Anderson grew up in south lake tahoe, california. One of eight children. Her father was a firefighter. Her mother ran a parttime lawn care business and homeschooled all of her kids. My family is like, you know, my rock. We grew up really close all in the mountains. Anderson fell in love with snowboarding at the age of 9 being homeschooled meant a flexible sketch. She hit the slopes all day and studied at night. In a family of ten, money was title. Andersons equipment always was hand me down. I cant imagine raising eight kids especially on my one income. I cant imagine the stresses of having so many kids. I just have so much appreciation for heir love and time and work that they put into all of us. Anderson was a snowboarding prodigy. At 13, she was the youngest athlete ever to compete in the prestigious xgames. At 15, she became the youngest ever to win a medal bearer and by 16, she was the winner in slopestyle. A devoted environmentalist, a treehugger you might say, anderson is known to literally hug a tree before an event. Have you scouted out trees . There arent a lot of trees in the park. I want to go for a tree run. There are some at the bottom and even take a moment to appreciate them. Ive kind of given all the trees some love and taken the power of nature around me. Year one of the most zenhappy people ive ever spoken to. Do you ever get angry . Better not ask my boyfriend that. Yeah. Im only human, i try my best and i kind of bless the rest. No. Yeah, im human. I have my moments. I kind of freak out at times. But i try to to not let it take so long. Or like take a lot of my energy. Like when i freak out or in a bad mood, i embrace it and let it be and know that will pass as soon as i learn to let tell go and let it go. Because lifes too short, you know. How school is she . Jamies already got that gold medal here. But shes not finished you can qualify her in qualifying in the snowboard big air competition late night tonight, 12 35 a. M. Eastern. Assuming she makes it through, well see her in the finals on thursday. We hear jamie talk about the element of fear in a sport where major injury is just moments away. Check out our extras at today. Com sunday. And next week in the states with a sunday sitdown with social s Saoirse Ronan as word of that swirls around in that movie. Any decorating tips since i saw you last .
