New for you this morning, a dumbfounding investigation under way in hollywood. Lapd detectives are searching for a thief who actually climbed a hollywood gazebo, took out a hacksaw and sawed off the top of the marilyn monaco statue. Detectives say they have some evidence in the case and are calling it the great marilyn caper of 2019. You think somebody would have seen that. Its a busy area, you know . If someone climbed up to the top then sawed. Some like it high. Get it . I do. That was very good, wow. It wasnt that good. That was a laura joke. I got it, though. Give that one to laura. There you go. Dusting for prints, maybe theyll catch him. Well see. This morning, we are starting out with some cooler temperatures but some like it high. Yeah, i dont think so. Were seeing the fog kind of draped over the golden gate bridge. We know when we start out this way, its going to keep it nice and cool if the marie layer stays close to the coast but the inland area is no help today. Out the door in brentwood, temperatures in the mid60s and 72 at 8 00, going up to 79 at 10 00 and some mid 80s by noon today. Were not going to stop there. Were going to reach into the low 90s in some of our inland valleys. Its a little bit hotter today compared to yesterday. Upper 80s in napa and in San Francisco, 68 degrees but Half Moon Bay only 62 today. In the south bay, where were headed into the upper 80s, you want to make sure youre dressed comfortably, as we go into our last few days of spring, headed into summer. Sleeveless shirt and shorts will probably be comfortable enough. We have this weather set up where High Pressure still just to the west of us, and theres just enough of an ocean breeze that onshore wind flow that keeps the coastal areas cool. Theres just enough of that to cool down San Francisco and the beaches while the inland valleys heat up today. There will be a slightly stronger ocean breeze that will cool us off a few more degrees as an area of low pressure passes just to our north, across the Pacific Northwest and going into the weekend, its going to start to crank up again with that heat as our winds turn more offshore because of the High Pressure edging in a little bit closer. Were looking at temperatures in the low 90s today. Our coolest day of the week will be on thursday for the valleys. And then well see it cool off again early next week. Meantime well have a hot weekend and in San Francisco, keeping it cool there, as we see more of the clouds and the fog, and look at that, summer begins on friday morning at 8 54. Well be watching that. Mike, you have an unusual report for b. A. R. T. The word is unusual. We talked about the delay reported between warm springs and fremont on that portion of that one line. Initially it came in at 20 minutes, we ease in five, ten, 20 minutes. Its down to ten minutes, thats less of a delay than before but b. A. R. T. Is still not calling it recovery mode. Well track that again. Expect a delay between warm springs the end of the line and the fremont station. Everything else sounds like its on time, good news for the rest of the system. Ap transit is a good option and vta not showing any delays for the south bay. We are going to zoom toward the trivalley, south 680. It may be recovering from an earlier crash. Chp reports everything over off to the shoulder, thats just about andrade and folks coming off of 84 theyre making their merge with 680 just fine after the crash cleared. A smooth drive despite a number of scattered incidents. Highway 4 is counter chute. Westbound shows slowing, eastbound the crash is on the shoulder. Crash cleared to the shoulder near the bay bridge toll plaza and one coming down outside the Robin Williams tunnel blocking your fast lane. The issue is there may be low clouds and perhaps fog drifting through the area. Slow it down if that is your route to the golden gate bridge. Thanks, mike. What if you could ditch the car, bus or train and commute by hovercraft . The idea is gaining traction in foster city. The mayor on board with traffic getting worse, somethings go ta give. The city is discussing a 500,000 study to see if the bay area likening gland could hover to work. This is enlisting hover, a San Francisco startup with knowledge of building hovercraft to figure out the logistics. Our cruise speed is around 45 miles an hour, which means that we can get places faster than conventional boats can, and also much more efficiently, since were not pushing water out of the way, we burn less fuel. The hope is to build two hovercraft to hold 30 people at a time by the year 2021. I went on a hovercraft. Pretty cool. Right now at 6 00, three breaking news stories were covering forever you. A deadly discovery on 680 overnight. The search for whoever is responsible and what appears to be an interstate shooting. A highway homicide along the peninsula, our crew actively trying to find out what happened. And an officerinvolved shooting involving police along the east bay. The chase actually spans three cities. Today in the bay continues right now. A very good morning to you and thanks so much for joining us. Im laura garcia. And im marcus washington. Mike will get us to the commute in a bit. First we want to get to meteorologist kari hall getting us up to date on what we can expect for the weather. Hotter in the valleys. The coast stays cool we have a wide range in temperatures across the bay area. For some of our inland areas like lake county and that extends over toward parts of the sacramento valley, thats where there will be a heat advisory in effect today as those temperatures reach over 100 degre degrees. Concord is hot there today, by 9 00, were already at 70 degrees, headed into the upper 80s. You can see the temperatures updating there. So once again, hot temperatures near 90 in some of our valleys. More in aew minutes. Mike, youre starting out with a delay and commuters through fremont. Its great to see the real time updates for the traffic and weather systems. The live look shows you traffic flowing smoothly for the nimitz freeway, through fremont. 680 also moves smoothly through fremont. You might want to take the freeway instead of the b. A. R. T. Stem. Tenminute delays reported between fremont and warm springs along this portion of the line. Some sort of equipment issue only ten minutes but well watch to see if that builds. The rest of the system going through this portion of the bay moves smoothly and on time from what i understand. The drive we have this delay for south 680, coming into fremont,
