Reporter thats right, marcus, laura, this up date from the contractor was from two weeks ago. There was last celebration last may for the construction of the suicide net. They showed a mock of the net that would sit 20 feet below and 20 feet out of the sidewalk. The scrubs of the net itself is going well. The problem is with the installation on the bridge. The original company was acquired by another company that he said struggled with the transition. Now instead of being up by january 2021, the suicide net probably wont be fully installed until 2023. Our message to families that have lost a loved one here is to know that the bridge cares, that were committed to saving lives. Weve increased the staff along the sidewalks, vigilant with our controls, stopped a lot of people. We recognize every day without this barrier is a potential loss of life. Current contract law, confines of the contract to move this project along as quickly as possibl possible. Reporter families who have lost loved ones have expressed their belief that they believe a suicide net would have stopped the tragedies. Patrols stopped 187 people from jumping off the bridge last year and says 30 people commit suicide off the bridge each year. Back here live, despite all the thick fog youre seeing here, the general manager tells me there are workers out there right now, all day and all night trying to put up the suicide net. A student in martinez was arrested this morning, suspected of making threats against the school. Accused of making anonymous threats, at a shooting at a high school. The district was made aware of the threat last night. The superintendent says the threat was not viable. Investigators are not releasing any more information about the identity of the student. Also new at 11 00, a warning going out to parents and students in the trivalley after two femal students on separate occasions were approached by strangers, offering them a ride. San ramon Valley Unified School district says both students were from dougherty valley high school. One student says a man with a gray prius offered her a ride and drove off after she said no. Last friday during that incident a student says she was offered a ride repeatedly by a man driven by a honda sedan, and even told her to get inside but left after she repeatedly said no. Tomorrow as the district works to determine if its a credible threat, extra Police Officers will be on campus all day. New at 11 00, a new step in the Affordable Housing crisis in the bay area. Reporter laura, First Presbyterian church where were at right now, theyve been helping the homeless for years. Theyve been very what they can do, blankets, food, that sort of them thing. They had this aha moment. We have this enormous parking lot. Why dont we use this space to install six tiny homes for the homeless . Here we are this morning. The first three of six just arrived here from their construction site in livermore. They are very small. Theyre just over a little eight feet wide, over 18 feet long, 157 square feet inside. When you go inside, you can see theyre very small but are equipped. Front door, windows, toilet, shower, sink, kitchenette, a stove top. There will be a mini fridge, electricity, ceiling fan, television, heaters for the water and the air inside and enough space for a futon. Now the church thats still taking applications for the tenants to see who theyre going to live there, residents must be homeless. Theyll live here for 18 months and then transition into realworld living. The church will bank roll. At the end of the year and a half they get their money back, minus what they spent on utilities. First and last months rent plus Security Deposit for rent in the bay area. I think as ive worked in this job, people that i know and love just need a place to live. And so having a place for them to have to live and feel loved and cared for by this community is important to me. Another contractor has spent her time to build foundations and run sewer and electric to the homes. All six homes should be ready by tenants by february. The church acknowledges some neighbors have concerns, who are afraid of what they dont know. Thats in the words of the church. As far as the bay area, we have so much rain over those past couple of storms that we had that santa rosa measured 10 of rain, 2 above where we should be for the water year at this time. For san jose, we still have work to do. One inch is what were lacking right now. We could make that up in one storm. Storm ranger tracking it all. As we see this steady stream of clouds and rain come in, the weather has been very unsettled. At any point over the next couple of days, there may be light rain coming through. This is not a strong storm. Cold front will start to make its way down to the bay area as well as the sierra, going into the weekend. As far as how much rain we may me measure, the models have been pretty consistent in showing not a whole lot here. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain from hayward, twotenths an inch of rain. It may be closer to half an inch for ukiah. Outside in ocean beach, we have high waves well have to watch out for. We do have a High Surf Advisory that goes into effect at 3 00 this afternoon. It continues until 3 00 a. M. On saturday. So we may have some breakers up to 22 feet. Just heads up about that if you plan on going surfing over the next couple of days, there will be some very dangerous swells. Sierra, squaw valley high camp looks pretty good. Temperatures have been pretty warm here. Weve seen some rain coming down. That will change over to snow coming into the weekend.
