The president and the first lady toured the disaster zone after hurricane idalia, they met with local leaders there. Spent sunday together in rehoboth. The White House Press secretary said the president tested negative last night, that he will be tested at a regular cadence this week while monitoring for symptoms. Of course, as the oldest president in the u. S. , President Bidens age as ham under scrutiny ahead of the 2020 election. He and the first lady have both been vaccinated and received multiple booster shots. They spent a lot of time together this weekend and there is a highprofile trip ahead. There have been four confirmed sightings between a fourmile radius where he escaped thursday morning. This most recent sighting taking place over the long Holiday Weekend. It was a trooper actually that observed him at some distance, gave chase but was unable because of the terrain and some other obstacles was unable to get to him. Hes also wanted for a 2017 homicide in his native brazil. Police have been playing audio recordings from choppers and patrol cars of cavalcantes mother, speaking in portuguese, pleading for him to turn himself in. Reporter Alex Murdaugh found guilty of murdering his wife maggie and his son paul. Killed on the prominent familys hunting property outside charleston six months after the dramatic verdict, Alex Murdaughs attorneys say they filed a motion for a new trial two sources familiar with the defenses motion telling craig that murdaugh team is alleging that they uncovered evidence of jury tampering adding at least two of the jurors have hired lawyers. The surprise announcement aiming to undo what the jury decided in less than three hours. Earlier this year, three of the jurors telling today, Alex Murdaughs own testimony worked against him. Do you think he hurt himself by taking the stand . Did he make it worse i think he did. Why hes a lawyer hes able to be emotional with cases. He knows, like she said, when to turn it on and off. Lets start with this evidence of jury tampering that allegedly is going to be revealed at this News Conference in a few hours how steep of a hill do they have to climb to get a new trial . It is a really high bar to get a new trial in South Carolina and basically everywhere it cant be a regurgitation of arguments that you already heard at trial it has to be something that you found afterwards thats so significant it actually would have changed the verdict it has to be they will put forward evidence and put forward jurors to say we would have found him innocent but for whatever tampering happened. When you talk about tampering, could it be something as simple as they read some articles and they shouldnt have what is the gamut of conduct you might be talking about as mentioned, two of the jurors have lawyers now, so that kind of raises some eyebrows as well. His lawyer already hinted it has to do with outside influence. Could it be a person that talked to them that wasnt supposed to. It could be they read something. But, again, would that be enough if there was overwhelming evidence not just of the Financial Issues that the judge let in, but all the other evidence right . We all sat through that trial we all listened to that evidence remember, the judge who is deciding this in the first instance is the same judge that was presiding over the trial, judge newman the reality is, even in some universe, he gets a new trial and managed to get exonerated, hes going to spend life in prison on the financial crimes. Thats the thing, remember, hes already expected to plead guilty to numerous financial charges in federal court and hes still facing 99 charges of financial crimes in state court. Even if he gets a new trial on this, hes going to spend a considerable amount of time in prison you can understand if there is actual evidence of jury tampering why they want to bring this forward. Another major industry shutdown the United Auto Workers union threatening to strike if a new contract deal is not made soon it comes amid a summer of highprofile strikes including the writers and actors union. Reporter savannah, this is a very, very highstakes gamble that the uaw and the car makers are faced off against each other, and the stakes could not be higher. Their contract expires on september 14th if they dont come to an agreement, we could see a major impact nationwide. The union is demanding things that the uaw, or rather, the big three automakers say are simply unrealistic. They include a 46 pay hike. They also want to work a 32hour week but with 40hour pay. And the restoration of their traditional pension benefits now, again, the automakers say that these demands are simply unrealistic. Separately, ford motor said it offered its union a 9 pay hike which is well below the 36 hike that the uaw is demanding as well were talking about 146,000 workers that could go on strike. If they do, you can imagine that will have a devastating impact on production of automobiles and the supply chain you could see prices start going up quickly on cars and parts i just talked to the parts manager at this dealer here in maryland who says hes stocking up on parts because hes convinced that a strike is very, very likely. President biden says, though, he thinks it can be avoided but with a shortage of workers and intense competition in the auto industry, many analysts say the union here has leverage over the big three. Very quickly, the president of the union is saying the following. He says the big executives at Car Companies they get, quote, out of control pensions. They dont even have to that they dont even need, rather they get tremendous Health Care Benefits they could work whatever schedules they want. The latest round of Asylum Seekers and migrants were receiving, there is a large number of them children and families. Reporter since last july nearly 19,000 students in temporary housing, many of them migrants, have enrolled in city schools. Under new york state law, all kids between ages 5 and 21 are guaranteed a public education, regardless of their immigration status we completely changed our School Funding formula to provide additional funding to schools based on the number of students in temporary housing that they enroll. Reporter but some parents worry school wills be stretched too thin. The problem is we are not equipped to help them, and we should be. Reporter it comes as a growing number of Asylum Seekers are arriving in cities nationwide many still stuck in crowded, temporary housing at hotels and other makeshift shelters its become a flash point for residents as more migrants arrive by the bus load berlin suarez arrived from venezuela last month with her three daughters. He it merkel cell carcinoma, and merkel is a super aggressive very rare type of skin chancers that develops in the lower level of the skin cells and the basal cells which are merkel cells send signals up to the brain yeah. And, so, this skin cancer is so rare that there is less than 3,000 cases diagnosed per year, and the incident is less than 1 in 150,000 people. It is not related to sun exposure necessarily. Well, it actually could be. So its usually seen in elderly men, fair skinned with a lot of sun exposure with some immunosuppressant issue going on and then there is actually a viral component to it. It is thought that the merkel cell polyoma virus is related. Does it look different than a normal kind of skin cancer and it sounded like Jimmy Buffett was battling it for four years. Yes so merkel cell carcinoma is usually red or pink or purple in color. It looks like a bump or cyst that presents, and then it grows really rapidly so people will notice this red bump that could start out looking like a pimple. Then it becomes a cyst then it looks like a larger growth and eventually it brings people to the doctor the key is early diagnosis. Early. You know, it brings to mind that this is a deadly, deadly disease. Now were getting to fall.
