Were going to get to him in just a bit. We are also tracking other stories on this monday, including people paying their respects to the late senator dianne feinstein. What people are already doing at San Francisco city hall ahead of her Memorial Service this week. And what Governor Newsom is saying about her replacement in the u. S. Senate. Also, they have arrived. Theyre here. The blue angels flew into the bay area today. We get a glimpse of them flying in for fleet week. Our scott budman will fill us in on whats in store. New body cam video of a rescue from contra costa county. The actions by an officer that saved the life of an infant that was choking. Were going to begin with that tragic story in san jose. Two children are dead after drowning at a day care. It is a Home Day Care with a pool in the backyard. Its located in the valley neighborhood. Our Damian Trujillo was the first reporter to break this story on air and online. He joins us from the neighborhood where he has been there all day. Its such a tragic and heartbreaking story. Please tell us what happened here. Reporter yeah, really tragic. Its been a crime scene for the last seven and a half hours. Homicide investigators were here earlier today. Also an investigator with the d. A. s office was also here making sure that everybody is on the same page when it comes to this investigation. Police arrived to assist san jose firefighters because there was a welfare check at the Day Care Center here in san jose. Were on fleetwood drive, and when officers arrived, they said there were three children in the Swimming Pool at the Day Care Center. They were all transported to local hospitals. Two of those children succumbed to their injuries. One was later listed as being in a nonlife threatening condition. Good news for that family. A tragedy for the other two families who lost their children here in this drowning in almaden valley, this portion of south san jose. What do we know about this day care . Is it licensed . Reporter we have been trying to find out all day. Our Investigative Unit is on it. They cannot find the Day Care Center in the database. I asked police, is this a licensed, updated licensed Day Care Center, and they said they cannot answer that question at this time, and social media posts, people have said that this is a popular Day Care Center, very reputable. So a lot of just Unanswered Questions for investigators, for police. They did take one of the people who we presume was inside of the home, they took them in the backseat of a parole car for questioning at police headquarters, see what they can come up with, why did the children have access to the Day Care Center, how did they get into the pool . Who was supervising. All of those questions need to be answered in south san jose. A difficult story to cover. Thank you so much. We look forward to your full report at 5 30. Were going to move on to some other news right now. A life saving move by an officer in contra costa county. San pablo Police Officer is being honored this afternoon for saving a week old baby girl who was choking. And the rescue was caught on video. Officer brandon o oswald was on patrol as he got dispatched to a choking infant. Body cam shows oswald giving the bay back flows, dislodging the milk before you hear the babys cry. I have been in this situation. It is the greatest sound i could have heard in the moment because i know, like i said, when the baby is crying, baby is breathing. What a relief. Oswald will receive the life saving award at Tonights City Council meeting. Oswald who is the father of a young daughter as well says its the most memorable call for help he has every experienced. Jodi hernandez will have the full story coming up at 6 00. As San Francisco announces plan to honor the late dianne feinstein, Governor Newsom is answering questions about the woman he appointed. Laphonza butler will be the first openly lesbian africanamerican to serve in the senate. His decision to appoint butler continues his long time advocacy on behalf of the lgbtq and africanamerican communities. 44yearold butler is a long Time Community organizer and political consultant. She has been the head of emilys list, dedicated to electing pro choice women to office. During a brief news conference, Governor Newsom was asked why he backed off a prior comment that his appointee would only be a care taker of the office and shouldnt run for a full term. I dont want to get in the middle of deciding folks who have been out there, working hard, raising money for months and months and months. I said what i said. Thats the rear view mirror stuff right now. Ive got an incredible appointee, and shell make the decision. And no constraints. At San Franciscos city hall, arrangements are being made to honor senator feinstein. She will lie in state for the public to come pay respects. An invitation only funeral will be held at the herb theater in San Francisco but there will be a public simulcast in San Franciscos city hall. It looks like its happening in a residential neighborhood. Its burning on parker avenue. This is on the citys east side. Just a few miles north of the oakland zoo on the west side of 580. It looks like one home is on fire right now, and there could be a couple of other homes next door that are threatened. Sky ranger is going to stay over the scene. Its breaking up right now, but you can see one home is on fire in the neighborhood in oakland. Well keep an eye on the fire throughout the evening and keep you posted. San franciscos fleet week is moving full steam ahead. How do we know that . The blue angels are in town. They flew in ahead of a busy packed week. Our scott budman has been in San Francisco all day. You have probably seen them and heard them. This week didnt happen if that Government Shutdown had happened. Now its full steam ahead. A lot of activity. What do you see in San Francisco . Reporter youre absolutely right. This was close. As you know, Government Shutdown was averted hours ago. The blue angels were on their way to the bay area, as were some of these warships like the uss john t murtha behind me. The Government Shutdown was averted and a full fleet week is happening. We did see the blue angels do fly byes by the Golden Gate Bridge earlier today. Theyre training. We have seen lots of sailors walking around, getting ready, and there was some emergency drills earlier today to sort of show some of the technology that the navy has, and its been very impressive and this is just day one of an entire fleet week ahead. Scott, San Francisco has been scrutinized a lot about crime and drug use. This will be a huge boost to the city. Its within of their biggest events each year. Hundreds of thousands of people usually attend. You speak with tourists and locals about fleet week. What are they saying . Are they going . Reporter yeah, they pretty much always get fired up for this. This year is no exception. Theres a lot of people lining embarcadero here. Wednesday is the first day you can tour the warships a lot of people say they are looking forward to that. Friday is the parade of ships and the air show featuring the blue angels. As this week wraps up it promises to be very busy along the embarcadero and in this area of San Francisco. A lot of bars and restaurants are psyched up about the business, and again, locals take pride in fleet week being here every year, and a lot of them saying theyre looking forward to the noise and the excitement and the pageantry. The warm up officially gets started tomorrow, as we see the highs climbing into the mid70s. The bigger warm up arrives wednesday through saturday. Speaking of low clouds. Notice what happens here as we get into wednesday. Signs of offshore wind, which should be good for visibility. But look at the changes here, the sevenday forecast. Right over fleet week. Were looking at 80 from San Francisco to oakland. Youll probably want to keep extra water out there. Its going to feel extra warm considering how cool things have been. This will be good news for the air shows, again, friday through sunday, those are the big days around the bay. Notice a look at the forecast, mid80s on friday, around San Francisco. Good visibility saturday, then by sunday, stay tuned, cooling temperatures and probably the low clouds making a bit of a comeback by the end of the weekend. Also, the season tipoff is just around the corner. The warriors hold their annual media day. There are plenty of changes. Anthony flores joins us with what to expect. The season hasnt officially started yet, and steph curry dropped the hint about the plans a threeyear pause on federal student loan payments ended yesterday. The restart to payments comes after eight extensions on the pause. However, not all borrowed bills will be due starting today. The department of education is encouraging people to log into their federal student aid portals and check who their servicer is because it could have changed in the past three years. For those struggling to pay, the department has also implemented the new save plan. Its an income driven repayment plan aimed to ease the burden on borrowers. It could significantly lower your Monthly Payments if you qualify. If you make less than about 15 an hour or more if you have a family to support, you dont have to pay anything. Student loans shouldnt come before necessities like rent and food. In a nutshell, not only is this supposed to be easier to qualify for, its supposed to be easier to do things like fill out the applications for it. Good news for those trying to make it in the bay. The early fall is showing signs for a slight home market cooldown. It is a different story for the highpriced homes in the market. 2 is out with a list of the most expensive homes. Its a 40,000 square foot los angeles estate. Its huge. Known as casa in cantada, the Home Features seven bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, an underground tunnel connecting to its own golf course, and has its own wikipedia page. Its 32 million. The second most expensive home for sale is in florida. Its a private island residence listed for 218 million. Next on the list is new york with a home there on the market for 195 million. Now, the state with the cheapest most expensive home, i guess they keep track of everything, nebraska, a home there listing for 3. 9 million. Fast food drive throughs are speeding up apparently. Drive through lines are seeing fewer customers and shorter waits. The average wait time dropped 29 seconds. Drive through demand has decreased since the pandemic began. Many customers are turned to online ordering and selfserving kiosks. Companies like mcdonalds and chickfila are investing in improving the quality of their drivethrough service. Apple says it has found the problem that made the iphone 15 literally too hot to handle. The most recently model went on sale last week, but the phones run uncomfortably hot. Lets talk about chris paul. He is now a warrior. We spent so much time rooting against him. Hes now part of the team. Are they welcoming him with open arms, gelling him with chemistry. If you like honesty, he was very refreshing. He couldnt hide the fact that he was uncomfortable wearing that warriors uniform. He has been playing pickup basketball with the guys throughout the summer, so theyre building that chemistry, but look at him right there. They asked him to do the chant, the warriors, it was one of his first stations he hit at media day today, and he was like, i just cant do it right now. I got to warm up to this. So hes still getting used to the uniform, but in terms of chemistry, he has been working with all the guys, and they have had a competitive relationship lets say for the last decade with all the guys on the warriors, especially draymond green. From what everybody was saying, theyre working on it and trying to fig out the best way it can work. Draymond green hurt . Thats right. He hurt his left ankle playing in a pickup game earlier this week. Hell be reevaluated in two weeks. Looked like he was in good spirits. Well see if it will affect him. He posted on social media, it could take anywhere from four to six weeks. That would put him missing maybe the first week of the regular season which tips off october 24th. In my opinion, they lost to a marginal lakers team in the second round. Size was the big factor. Draymond hit on it today saying we havent improved our size. We havent gotten any bigger. Were going to have to wait and see how chris paul fits into the game plan when everybody is healthy, how it works. Theres a big question. Will chris paul come off the bench. Ill do whatever it takes to win. So it takes time. Obviously when you have steph curry, you have a chance. He wants a ring, right . He wants a ring and a gold medal. If all goes well and nothing unexpectedly comes up, hell be chasing gold in 2024. Chris paul or steph curry. Chris paul wants a ring, and steph curry wants another ring and the olympic gold. Watch the wind speeds approaching midnight, early wednesday morning to sunrise. Look at the wind gusts, 20 to 35 miles per hour. Those will be the offshore winds, right after sunrise to 9 00 a. M. Gusty conditions at times, and the wind speeds back off as we head towards noon on wednesday. Thats the cause of the warm up. The effect here, that down slope warming is going to lead to coastal areas in the 70s and 80s. Wednesday. Look at San Francisco to oakland. Low to mid80s on wednesday. Upper 80s around san jose. Then we get to the warmest days of the week thursday and friday. Now were in the mid to upper 80s. San francisco to oakland, 90s around san jose and out towards the trivalley. Temperatures about 10 degrees above average. Mid90s there on friday, and maybe one more day on saturday. Then temperatures start to cool down as we head towards sunday and monday.
