Meanwhile, in the upper 50s for palo alto and in san jose, and then looking at our High Temperatures for this afternoon, really nice and comfortable, upper 60s for san mateo, upper 70s for los gatos and 78 for san jose, while well see also mid to upper 70s for the east bay into the north bay and the weekend is looking just as nice. Our saturday High Temperatures up to 75. In dublin well get a look at the rest of our microclimates coming up. But mike, youre tracking a crash in oakland. Yeah, a couple of crashes in oakland. Actually, this is a major crash. And marcus is going to talk more about the details of whats going on and what caused or what the issue is earlier. But right now the grand avenue off ramp is still closed. I wanted to call it out because it is off of the maze. And we did talk about grand avenue, but its a completely different portion of that roadway name over in oakland, a smooth drive everywhere else as you head south down through piedmont, theres another crash just past the bottom of the screen. On 880 itself, theres a rollover crash reported no major injuries, and im tracking that. But smaller incidents have been occurring over the last hour. So a busy night on the grid for chp right now as you head down toward the coliseum. But so far, no slowing on the scene. For more on the oakland issue, well send it back to you. Yeah, mike, thats where chp is investigating this morning. That deadly crash there. So this was along 580 in oakland. This is new video of that scene near the grand avenue offramp. Now, investigators are saying that this all happened a little after midnight. Two vehicles crashed along eastbound lanes there now, one of them overturning near the center divider. At least one person we know has been killed in that accident. A witness says that she was actually speaking with her cousin nearby when the truck flipped. At least five times, hitting a pole. She says accidents in that area are not uncommon. The traffic here is terrible. This is probably the fourth accident ive seen right here. Someone came off the freeway and hit her car. Its a fence that used to be here, but the fence is gone because people keep coming off the freeway and crashing into it. Now, at last, check all lanes along that eastbound ramp to grand avenue are shut down. Well, in just a few hours, the man convicted of attacking paul pelosi is set to face sentencing. This marks the end of a year and a half court battle to put david depape behind bars today in the bays Ginger Conejero saab joins us live in San Francisco with more on what is set to play out today. Ginger well, good morning, laura and marcus. Prosecutors are asking for a 40 year sentence for david depape. Attorneys say they want depape to serve a longer sentence than the one recommended by the u. S. Probation office, which recommends 25 years in prison. Depape was convicted of breaking into the pelosi home in Pacific Heights here in San Francisco, attempting to kidnap then speaker nancy pelosi. Instead, he attacked her husband, paul pelosi, in the Early Morning hours of october 28th, 2022, just days before the midterm elections. Depape admitted during trial testimony that he broke into the home. He also acknowledged striking paul pelosi with a hammer after Police Showed up. That bloody attack on pelosi was captured on Police Body Cam footage. Depape was convicted of the federal charges against him back in november of last year, but he is also charged in state Court Hearings or in state court with assault with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Hes also pleaded not guilty to that case. Jury selection for the state case is expected to happen next week on may 22nd. Ginger police cleared out an abandoned University Building near the uc berkeley campus. You may recall it was taken over on wednesday night by propalestinian protesters. Police shut down nearby streets, outnumbering the group of protesters, allowing police to arrest 12 people inside that building. The takeover of the building, happening just days after a nearby encampment, was disbanded after student organizers came to an agreement on their demands with the university. University says the group who occupied the abandoned building are not affiliated with student groups on campus. Those who were arrested could face charges of trespassing, vandalism and destruction of property. A San Francisco woman opening up after another woman attacked her from behind in a Neighborhood Corner store. Now, we have to warn you, some of this video were about to show may be disturbing. Now, Surveillance Video here showing kate ryken at her potrero hill Neighborhood Corner store. This is on tuesday. She waves there at the store owner. And then you see right here that woman coming in with a darker sweatshirt, hitting her with that bag, then started punching kate. That bag that kate was hit with, will has a liquor bottle inside and this all lasted fewer than 10s, but it really left ryken terrified when it happened on tuesday afternoon i was afterwards. I was just in complete and total shock yesterday i was crazy angry and today im just completely overwhelmed. So lets see what tomorrow brings. Well, police later arrested the woman believed to be involved. She pleaded not guilty yesterday to assault charges. Weve learned that shes also being held on a parole violation for some, trying to make it in the bay. A Community Organization is working to ensure everyone can put food on the table. A Community Refrigerator sits along hilton avenue in vallejo. It allows anyone to receive food, no questions asked, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The refrigerator was created by the organization the vallejo project organizers say the anonymity helps people feel more comfortable asking for help. But like many food banks in the bay area its in constant need. The Community Refrigerator currently accepting donations of food, pet food and Feminine Hygiene Products and other supplies in san jose. Efforts are also underway to keep one church stocked for Community Members in need. The crossroads chapel volunteers say that since the pandemic, the number of families requesting help is now about 650. Before then, it was just 80. Do an increase in donations. The church says its forced to offer less food than in previous years. If you want to donate to crossroads efforts, you can visit the website. Well, the Contra Costa County fair is here and there are new rules to tell you about yesterday, opening night. And teenagers, of course. Welcome. But only with an adult. Now theres a chaperon policy. Now in place for the next few days. Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult whos at least 25 years old, each chaperon can only have four minors with him. Now, this is in response to a series of fights between groups of teenagers at the fair last year. A lot of people tell us that its really sad to see Something Like this happen, but they understand thats crazy. All the kids in high school or school, they cant get dropped off no more and come by themselves. You know what . I think its a pretty good idea. I know they had a little bit of problems last year, so i think its better that they have more supervision now. The county fair isnt the only place thats made some changes due to teenage brawls. Now, the water at our coastline flows down from alaska and is very cold, averaging only at about 55 degrees. The marine layer of humid air is pushed over the water and to our coast and creates a breezy, chilly wind with that constant pacific High Pressure pushing that moist air farther inland. And as temperatures in the valleys heat up, you get a wide range in temperatures. As the fog lingers for most of the day. Bottom line is to always keep a warm jacket handy all throughout the summer. First as we look at a smooth flow of traffic at the gas pumps at least has flowed down in prices at least a little bit. Another local listed in the top ten best, but its still in livermore. Okay, so youre looking right now thats 18 year old hams at the gecko. He is from headroyce school over in oakland. He was accepted. Get this to 122 universities, is offering a collective 5. 3 million in scholarships. That acceptance comes after years of hard work you can imagine, including a 3. 9 gpa, some ten extra school curriculars, and spending months of applying to schools all over. We talked about that as well as some mild temperatures, so thats helping to moderate all of our temperatures across the bay area. It does stay dry with some seasonable temperatures, and ahead it will stay cool. So as youre heading out, going to work in oakland, its going to be in the low 50s throughout the morning. And then take a look at the trend. It stays mostly cloudy through at least 11 12 00. And then we start to see the sun breaking out. So low clouds and drizzle from San Francisco extending across the bay into the east bay. At noon. Were seeing those temperatures starting to warm up for some spots, like san jose, were at a nice 71 degrees, but we are heating up. And farther to the north in lake mendocino counties. Were going to see temperatures in the mid 80s there, but mostly 70s as we get that influence from that cool ocean breeze. Looking at our game tonight for the giants its going to be chilly out there. Windy Cool Temperatures in the 50s. And at times you may even feel some mist and drizzle hitting your face. Its going to be cool, so you might want to watch it on tv, but definitely warmer for the bay fc game tonight. We start out with the low 70s and then drop back to the low 60s, and also a lot going on this weekend along the coastline is going to be in the upper 50s for highs in santa cruz, a little bit warmer on sunday, and overall were looking at more of the same weather on repeat going from the weekend into early next week. Mid 70s inland and mid 60s for San Francisco. And mike, youre looking at the san mateo bridge following up because we had the far right lane here with the Service Vehicle flashing lights. And it actually stopped just about right here for a couple of minutes. It started to slowly make its way across the bridge, and we can see topsy continuing the lights across the high rise, so everything looks like its moving smoothly. Once again, it wasnt causing enough of a delay to show up on our sensor. So smooth. East bay over to the peninsula. It would be the direction for the main commute, but which got no slowing really going on. We do have a couple of crashes west grand or grand avenue off ramp from eastbound 580. It just reopened, folks. There was a deadly crash just after midnight. 580 at grand just reopened. Sadly, at least four people have died after severe storms swept through the houston area overnight at times, winds exceeded 100mph. It toppled trees, leading to at least some of those deaths. Nearly 1 million homes and businesses are now without power. Meteorologist kari hall is here right now. Carol was just talking to a friend over in houston yesterday, saying it was raining pretty much all day. Wheres the storm heading now . Well, it has moved off to the east and yeah, they had so much rainfall that came on top of an already saturated ground. So then when you add in wind speeds of 100mph, that caused a lot of trees to topple. And the bad thing about this is that were still seeing storms developing and another round of storms will be coming through that area for today. A closer look around houston and the storms that are approaching. We are going to continue to see that heavy rain moving in as we go throughout the day, and they may see another 2 to 5in of rainfall, along with that threat of more severe storms. So well continue to monitor that as we go throughout the next several hours. Were starting out with a heavy drizzle over San Francisco, and were going to see that continue with a mostly cloudy morning into the early afternoon that also keeps those temperatures down. And were only looking at highs in the low 60s. Well talk about some weekend events, and there are a lot of them going on. Well check back with you. 532 right now, some propalestinian protesters are facing charges after they were arrested for illegally taking over a building owned by uc berkeley. Yeah. Today in the base. Kris sanchez joining us live from berkeley this morning. And kris, this was a pretty tense ending. It was a very tense ending. It is very quiet now, but there is a large security presence. They are stationed all about the building here that is behind me. I want to show you what it was like last night as it was all unfolding just hours after, within 24 hours of those protesters taking over that abandoned building owned by uc berkeley, Berkeley Police and other agencies shut down the streets nearby in order to move in and arrest 12 protesters. Those protesters now face charges of trespassing, vandalism and destruction of property, according to the university. It does not appear they are affiliated with the on campus protest, which disbanded a few days ago after the student protesters and uc berkeley officials reached an agreement. We talked with the berkeley man who lives nearby, who says he doesnt think that this is over. I think people are just the propalestinian protesters are just fed up at this point after for that many months. So they really want to just go all out. So its just going to be might be a chaotic summer. He may be right because as those protesters were being detained, they were chanting, we will be back, we will be back. Well, at least a few people in the south bay likely starting the weekend a little early. Aguilar yeah, this is over in san jose was last night kicking off its Downtown Summer Block Party series. That event happening in fountain alley, connecting first and second streets and included live music, food, art merchants selling their items. Of course, you can see here. So organizers say the goal here is really to bring more foot traffic to that area. The mayor says that this years events are off to a good start. Were creating exposure for the small businesses. We have incredible entrepreneurs, incredible diversity of restaurants and bars and cultural venues. Now, san joses Downtown Association says the city showing new signs of life with activity up to 20 and block parties will take place throughout the summer in different parts of the downtown area. Well good news if youre planning a getaway down the coast this weekend, all of highway one through big sur will open again in about an hour after storms in late march. You may recall triggered slides and forced closures lasting weeks. The reopening also comes a little early, more than one week sooner than initial projections. For the past two months, locals were relying on convoys twice a day to get in and out of the area. Be aware if youre heading further south. An unrelated closure in the town of lucia remains intact, with no reopening date set just yet. All right, laura, lace up your Running Shoes and grab your best costume. Now there are some road closures need to be aware of, including the finish line that starts today. Closures near the starting line start tomorrow. Im sorry. Thats. Yeah. Tomorrow at 7 p. M. All other race related closures take effect 6 a. M. On sunday. Want to check in with meteorologist kari hall . Because the thing about it is, you know, folks like to dress up. Yes. Do we need to have another layer of clothing or just whatever you want . I think its whatever you want, whatever makes you comfortable. But just a heads up that it will be chilly. We start out with the temperature only at about 54 degrees, and we know that its usually foggy misting. So if youre wearing Something Like that pink gorilla costume, it gets weighed down with all of the drizzle and the you know, humidity in the air along with your sweat as well. But, you know, such a great event and it kicks off our summer, even though it does not at all feel like summer. We only make it into the low 60s throughout the race and into the day. Now, if you want some warmer temperatures, head to antioch. The Contra Costa County fair will continue throughout the weekend. Well see a high of about 80 for today. Upper 70s for saturday. But just as fast as it warms up, it cools down. We go from upper 70s to low 50s, and on sunday were going to see a High Temperature of about 81 degrees. We also have the boogie Music Festival in downtown campbell. Both saturday and sunday. The weather is looking about the same each day, starting out at about 63 degrees, at 72 degrees at 1 00. And in the mid 70s during the middle of the day, and also sunny for the himalayan fair in berkeley. Were going to see a cool and at times cloudy start. But then as we go throughout the day, the celebrations continue. We make a high of about 65 degrees, so it will be really nice. And then today weve got the night market at the Alameda County fairgrounds. Its going to be 73 at the time that it begins, but then temperatures dropping down into the upper 50s as we really make it to a night market. Mike, youve got a lot ahead of us as well. Yeah, in fact a lot more now. The traffic incident just popped up a pretty big issue for northbound 680, mostly green on all of the bay area freeways except north 680. We just learned that basically all lanes are blocked just north of mission. As youre heading up in toward the sunol area, so avoid that portion. We already saw a little slowing show up on mission. The cut over that state route 262, and folks are getting over to 880 and taken back up through fremont. And then eventually, perhaps cut back over. This is right around auto mall parkway. So it is north of the major cut overs. But auto mall is a great option as well. Again, north 680 with a crash with debris and roadway closures there. Now looking ahead to this weekend, we will have lane closures. There will be one lane open here. South 680 from al costa to 580 that dublin interchange because theres one lane open people are probably going to minimize the impact. But theres only one lane for this freeway. Thats a big issue if youre traveling south out of san ramon, danville, even walnut creek. So take note. Folks may have to shift over to 24 and take 580 back down through the area as well. Thats a possible reroute. Make sure you use your Mapping Software because it will tell you what things are like at any given moment. We have another closure. This ones a full closure. Eastbound 37. Just like last weekend. Thats closed from 121 over to 29 and mare island. So theres your reroute up and over in the opposite direction from a couple of weeks ago. Back to you. Investigators believe that this all started back in november. They say three men from virginia offering free roofing inspections to elderly homeowners across california. Now, once a homeowner agreed to minor repairs, they continue to add additional costs to fix new issues that didnt actually exist. All three were arrested last week. Investigators believe that theres possibly more victims. Anyone with information is asked to call police. More than a dozen state lawmakers are urging action by a National Trade organization over a viral trend, which could be harmful to young skin children, tweens and teenagers posting videos online sharing their makeup and skin routines. But experts are warning some of the products contain antiaging ingredients and could do more harm than good on young skin. This week, a group of 20 california lawmakers sent a letter to personal Products Council urging it address the issue. The organization represents 600 cosmetics and personal care companies. Doctor Zakiya Rahman is a clinical professor of dermatology at Stanford Health care. She explains products for acne might be helpful, but parents really need to be on the lookout. I think retinol was one of the products they talked about, and those are actually really good, and a lot of teens use them because as they get hormones, they get acne. So i think its fine to use that. But when you add it to other ingredients, particularly antiaging ingredients, you can cause a lot of irritation and allergic contact dermatitis, which can really start a vicious cycle of your skin just being constantly irritated. Meantime, a proposed bill which would limit the sale to anti age of antiaging products to kids no longer moving forward after being dropped yesterday in a state committee. Now, social media was quick to point out Congresswoman Lauren Boebert did not attend her own 18 year old sons trial in colorado for theft. But she did attempt trumps trial. Back in washington, the house voted to find attorney general Merrick Garland in contempt for not turning over audio of an interview of President Biden made by special counsel robert her. The white house says that falls under executive privilege, and we already know whats in that interview without the audio, because the special counsel released transcripts of the interview and published its final report explaining why it didnt charge the president and her testified before congress in march. So weve heard all about her assessment that the president was an elderly man with a poor memory. We just didnt get to the point where we heard about that man speaking on audio or videotape, which bidens critics do want to get their hands on now, they dont explain how that more than the transcript that will help them. Yesterday in that committee, republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor greene started making fun of another womans eyelashes when democrat alexandria ocasiocortez asked those comments be removed from the official record. One of the danger points here is that former President Trump also claimed executive privilege on a few matters, and it would likely that he would do so as president again in and it would be sort of disadvantaged disadvantageous to the republicans were they to continue this. So as you take a look at that 7day forecast at the bottom of the screen, none of this changes for the next several days, just a minor tweak up and down with those temperatures as the wind picks up a little bit.
