Reporter we certainly have. A big Police Presence to go along with the big crowds that will be gathering here tonight. The fireworks will be launched from pier 14 starting at midnight. The fireworks will last 15 minutes. Fog or low clouds are not expected to be an issue this year. Among the concerns is security, especially in light of the foiled isisinspired Christmas Day terror plot that the fbi says was planned for pier 39. New years eve revelers may find c comfort that every Police Officer is on duty tonight. I heard about the fireworks, and i think its going to be great. Are you worried about security and big crowds . Not at all. Actually, i think its going to be it was a bigger crowd than here. I think its going to be okay. Yeah, im not worried at all. Ive been coming here for last three years. Meteorologist Spencer Christian sta standing by. We have clouds around but theyre high and mid level clouds. We expect sky conditions to remain that way through the evening. Were going to have a mixture of stars and clouds. You may see stars or bright sky from time to time. That means the viewing conditions should be at least fair to moderate as we get to the midnight hour, ringing in 2018. It will be cool out there, especially along the embarcadero, near the bay. Temperature about probably in the upper 40s at that hour. But once again, mid to high level clouds through the overnight hours. Viewing conditions for fireworks should be fair to moderate. Dont be too disappointed if the clouds drop a little bit and obscure your view partially. Many bay area transit agencies are providing free rides tonight. Cal tran, sam trans, and muni are offering free rides. And as part of a new years tradition, bart will run extra trains until 3 00 a. M. Monday morning. Bart says trains will run every 20 minutes after midnight, but keep in mind some stations will be skipped because of overcrowding. So make sure you plan ahead. 2018 promises to be a happy new year for bay area workers making minimum wage because starting tomorrow, two cities in the Silicon Valley will offer one of the highest minimum wages in the country, 15 an hour. Reporter brother and sister jordan and naomi happy to hear this citys minimum wage is jumping from 13. 50 to 15 an hour on new years day. Reporter Mountain View and neighboring sunnyvale made it a joint effort by raising the minimum wage to 15 bucks. Servers and cooks at this restaurant just learned theyre getting a raise. Very happy. New year, more money. Very happy. Reporter both cities wanted to give workers a fighting chance in a region where skyhigh rents and milliondollar real estate is the new normal. The country is doing very well and Silicon Valley is doing very well. But that hasnt translated to worker wages. And were the most expensive region to live in the country. We felt we had to act. Our prices will be going up within the next two weeks. Reporter this Restaurant Owner is happy to pay his workers more but says he has no choice but to pass the increase on to his customers. It impacts us, but were were ready to take some actions to make sure that were here for next 20 years. Reporter tonys customers say they get it. Unfortunately it will have a ripple effect, but people need to earn a living wage, and this may be a step in the right direction. Well, shifting gears now, developing news out of costa rica tonight where were learning a plane carrying 12 people has crashed, killing everyone on board. Among the dead tonight, 10 u. S. Citizens, including a family of five americans and two costa rican crew members. That private plane went down in a wooded area in the northwest part of the country. Local media does report the aircraft had problems after takeoff and almost immediately caught fire. Still no word on a cause. A san lorenzo family and their two pets are staying somewhere else tonight because of a fire. The Alameda CountyFire Department took a couple of pictures of the aftermath. You requecan see it here. Were told the fire started just before 8 00 last night in the living room area. Some overloaded extension cords are to blame. The homeowners werent home at the time. No one was hurt. Tomorrow, amy will be featured on the donate life float, but she took time today to honor the man who saved her life. I was able to donate my rose in noahs honor, and that was very humbling. It was very real, and it was it just reminded me of how blessed and grateful i am to be giving this gift of life and the gift of time. Yeah, so blessed. Amy is diabetic, and the damage that caused to her kidneys ended up putting her on the National Transplant wait list for five years. She received her organs shortly after noah died. Amy along with her mom and sister will meet with noahs parents tomorrow, and theyll ride in the parade together. Dozens of people came together in San Francisco today to show their support for the protests going on in iran. Members of the iranianamerican community of Northern California gathered in union square thi afternoon. Many of them you see there holding flags and signs. They say the protests are aimed at toppling the current regime that they characterize as a dictatorship. Organizers say rallies are going on in at least 40 cities across iran. This is our way of showing support to those who are in the streets of iran and also asking the west, particularly the american administration, that this is the prime time to let go of supporting and appeasing the iranian regime. The group says the protests in iran started on thursday and have gone on through the weekend. President trump did tweet yesterday supporting the protesters in iran. The gently used donations are the good wills life blood. Proceeds from the items go toward job training for some of the groups 600 employees. 85 of whom who have some kind of barrier to employment. The giving part is also fulfilling. A lot of clothes and things, books that i go through my apartment and realize i just dont use 23anymore and i know good will does a lot of great work putting people to work and helping out the community. So it helps me clean up my apartment little bit and does something great for the community. Its a win win. Former mayor willie brown also donated this rack of clothes to the good will. The suits, ties, even a hat will be sold online. King tides are back in the bay area, and some familiar spots are flooding. Abc7 news was in mill valley today where the water, you can see there, already covering some parts of the roads. Caltrans has closed off the park and ride lot onshore line highway off highway 101. I will point out once again its the fourth driest december on record here in San Francisco, which received only 15 hundredths of an inch of rain this month. Compare it with the average for december, which is over 4. 25 inches. Really, really dry all around the bay area. Wet weather is coming our way in the form of a light storm ranking one on the storm impact scale. It will be moving in on wednesday and thursday morning producing light rain showers. Estimates between a tenth of an inch and half an inch of rain. Lets skip to wednesday at noon, midday. Thats when the rain will begin to arrive, starting to push onshore, continuing into wednesday night. Looks like virtually all of the bay area will get some rain from this system. It will continue into thursday, breaking up a little bit, and then a second storm perhaps even a little bit more vigorous will move in on friday.
