Flames burned trees down. Im maria medina. Hi, everyone. Im frank mallicoat. Lets get right out to kpix 5 reporter da lin, who joins us live from the Evacuation Center in winters. Da. Reporter yeah, frank. The red cross has about a handful of people here at the Evacuation Center in winters and many more came here for food and water. Now, heres the latest from cal fire. They just had a press conference about 20 minutes ago. This fire destroyed one home, outbuilding and damaged one home. The reason for the number is just the inaccessible areas of the fire are difficult to get dozer lines around and hand lines to where we can call it. We have a lot of steep country. Reporter firefighters worry erratic winds and tinder dry conditions will fuel the fire. A car accident is believed to have started the wildfire. The cause is under investigation. The fastmoving fire had people evacuating homes near the town of winters. Some campgrounds south of Lake Berryessa have also been evacuated. Earlier this morning we talked to a woman who evacuated dozens of horses. There are 40 horses on the ranch so we can only take so many at a time so while they were taking horses to a friends ranch down the street, i was haltering other horses getting them out of the barn. You just have to slow down, think about things, calm yourself down and take one thing at a time. Get one halter on a horse, pull it out, tie it up. Dont rush because it stresses the horses. You have to really slow down and think. You see the flames coming and you want to move fast but you cant. Have to go slow and think about things. Reporter she says those horses have been taken away and are in good shape. Some evacuees said they saw the flames burning up to their homes before deciding to finally leave. Lets come back live here. About 600 firefighters are fighting this fire on the front lines. We understand still about 200 homes still threatened by the wildfire. And we will continue to monitor this and well have more in the evening newscast. Live in winters, im da lin, kpix 5. Now lets go to Roberta Gonzales with a look at how the weather is going to impact this fire today. Reporter as the morning has progressed, the air quality has certainly improved somewhat over the Lake Berryessa area. Im talking about napa and solano counties. All because of the wind. So the winds are problematic for firefighting efforts but it certainly is an improvement from what we had earlier where you could not even see the Mountain Range due to the smoky conditions. Nevertheless its hazy. Todays winds will continue to blow from the west 10 to 20 miles an hour, High Temperature 84 degrees. Well talk more about the wragg fire Weather Forecast coming up. Now take a look at this. A photo from this morning shows water spraying from a fire hose into smokey patches of brush. Some of the logs look like they are still giving off heat. A firefighter sent us this picture. He is with a team from marin county who have been working on the wragg fire since last night. More firefighters from the bay area are heading north to help fight the fire. Sf fire sent a strike team around 6 a. M. They loaded up gear, held a strategy meeting and headed to the fire lines with 22 firefighters and five engines. That team was sent specifically to protect buildings like homes. In this photo from last night, it shows firefighters on the front lines, pretty amazing, that fireline clearly visible and the lights from the fire truck reflecting in the smoke. You can see the area is consumed by the smoke. Keep sharing your photos of the wragg fire on social media. Mourning across the bay area today over the officer killed in the line of duty in hayward.
