The suspect in yesterdays mass shooting at a Florida High School was booked into the Broward County jail this morning and has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder. Reporter reporter the suspect was escorted into Broward County jail this morning. As the schoolday ended, police say 19yearold nikolas cruz fired a hail of bullets into classrooms at Marjory StonemanDouglas High School in parkland, florida. Bullet holes are seen on this laptop computer in the classroom. He ran up and down the hallway just banging and shooting into the classrooms. He shot through my door. I saw blood everywhere. Reporter cruz was heavily armed with what is believed to have been an ar15 semi automatic rifle. Law enforcement sources say shortly after the suspect entered the school, he pulled the fire alarm causing students to empty out into the hallways. He got us out of our classrooms slowly and in a large group of unprotected targets. Reporter cruz was picked up off campus without incident. Last night investigators searched the home where the 19 yearold was staying. A lawyer representing the family that lives there says cruz was not related to them. They took him in about three months ago after his adoptive mother died. His adoptive father also died sometime ago. Maybe he was a little depressed because of the mothers situation, but seemed absolutely normal. They are shocked, cannot believe it. Apparently had problems at the school earlier some fighting but nobody saw this coming. Reporter Law Enforcement confirms cruz had been expelled from Marjory StonemanDouglas High School for, quote, disciplinary reasons. Laura podesta, cbs news. President trump tweeted his offer of prayers for the family of the victims and received several responses from students at the school asking for tighter gun control legislation instead of condolences. A Bipartisan Group of senators has agreed on an immigration plan according to a draft obtained by cnn offering a path to citizenship for nearly 2 million Illegal Immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. The plan also earmarks 25 billion for Border Security and reduces the number of green cards handed out per year. It would need 60 votes to pass and the president has threatened to veto any measure that doesnt take a hardline approach. I. C. E. Agents in the Los Angeles Area have detained more than 100 people since sunday. This is the latest sign of increased Immigration Enforcement in sanctuary cities. Earlier this month, i. C. E. Says that he had previously been deported to mexico three times. A second Sexual Harassment hearing at the state capital aims to bring justice for victims statewide. Today a subcommittee on Sexual Harassment prevention and response will hold the second of many hearings over the next month as they begin piecing together new procedures. The goal is to devise ways to prevent and respond to Sexual Harassment complaints. State senator Hannahbeth Jackson says secret settlements and nondisclosure agreements are used to silence the victims. In her mind, california needs stronger laws to end workplace Sexual Harassment, not enable it. There will be serious ramifications for both the abusers, the perpetrator, and the companies they work for. Protection for all parties with a process that is fair and independent and impartial. Reporter state senator Holly Mitchell of los angeles is the vice chair of the subcommittee. She says this hearing is part of a longterm effort to change the overall culture in sacramento and ensure the safety of all legislative employees. The first hearing on this topic was on january 24th. She is the victim of former swimmer brock turner in the Sexual Assault case. Dauber is behind the recall campaign to remove judge persky from his job after he sentenced turner to six months in jail. During daubers press conference about the note, she blamed the campaign to keep persky on the bench for encouraging threats against her. The level of personal attacks that they are engaging in against me is, um, causing these kinds of, um, people who would send these kinds of threats to feel empowered to do it. Reporter but retired superior court judge Ladoris Cordell spoke out to defend voices against recall. Thats the group who doesnt believe judge persky should lose his job. Its very curious the timing that this happened right when the tide has turned. Now at the state capital they actually want to reward developers who want to go in and bring some Affordable Housing near Transit Centers. Now, this bill is being sponsored by the city of san diego. But, of course, it would impact cities across the state. Assemblyman todd gloria authored the bill. Under the Plan Developers would be rewarded for building affordable units near public transit. Heres how the bill would work. The plan tries to maximize density, essentially favoring developers who build with more usable space. Now, the plan would also change impact fees by the development Square Footage to encourage developers to build more compact units and the plan would also reduce the amount of parking needed to build. Now this bill follows others intended to spur Development Like the one from San Francisco senator scott weiner that would bypass rules that limit Building Height near Transit Centers. And Real Estate Experts say if you are near a bart station, chances are youre in the middle of a new building boom. Investors look at walk scores now as a component to whether or not they want to fund or lend money to projects. There will be another system that comes from canada bringing us some cold air leading to low snow levels sunday night into monday morning, snow as low as 1500 feet in elevation.
