Elevated terrain. On the west southwest facing slopes where the downslope windstorms tend to materialize. Is where we are expecting the winds in the lower elevations like you napa county sonoma county. Wins in the valley will be less than that. Over some of the higher terrain in mount diablo mount st. Helena big bend area. In portions of the service territory. We could see gust 55 were in excess of 55. The National Weather service is forecasting gust to 60 Miles Per Hour. We do continue to closely coordinate with our agency partners. Starting friday we coordinate it with the National Weather service Monterey Office on this and then every day since then we have been participating on an interagency call that is led by northern operations addictive services. A Forecasting Group the feds specially. Essentially all meteorological entities are aligned. This is another high risk weather event. Some of the slides i was going to present are some of the forecast from those federal forecasting agencies. The slide onto my right shows the Northern Operations Predictive Services forecast. They are showing high risk for wind. For vast portions of Northern California. That encapsulate about one. 4 million of our pg e customers. This time period is still expected to be wednesday into thursday. The same time period we are looking at for dry and gusty winds. The National Weather service has just posted a fire weather watches today for similar areas across Northern California. We calculated in that geographic footprint of the fire weather watch there is one. 2 million pg e customers in that footprint. We will continue to monitor the Weather Forecast as they arrive. We are getting global and also High Resolution local weather metal multiple times for per day. We will continue to monitor monitor that. We are 48 hours from the start of the event. There is a chance for things to evolve a little bit. As weather and Weather Forecasts are quite dynamic in nature. With that i will leave it there. Good evening everyone. Thank you for being here. Im bill johnson. The president and ceo of pg e. I will provide an Operational Update regarding the planning of this potential topic safety power shut off. Later this week. I will address the improvements we are focused on since the previous shut off about two weeks ago. First a reminder of why we do this. A reminder of why we and the other utilities not many utilities across the west. Initiate public power shutoffs at all. There is a simple answer. Is safety. The sole intent is to prevent a catastrophic wildfire caused by sparks from Electrical Equipment. In high winds Electrical Equipment is more susceptible to damage including that from trees branches and other flying objects. Damage of this nature can cause sparks. With high wind and dry conditions and plenty of dead dying grass and trees our communities are much higher risk for rapid fire spread. That is what we want to avoid. We are serious about that. Remember damage during high winds as possible even though our equipment and high fire threat areas meets or exceeds standards. We inspected all of that equipment earlier this year. We fixed highpriority issues. More of our service area is considered by the state to be at high fire risk. In fact three times more of our service area is a high risk of fire than was the case seven years ago. About 15 in 2012. What the 50 today. That service area is roughly 70,000 square miles. That is a big area. We are really dealing with a new reality here. Power shutoffs are one tool we have to keep the Community Safe and combat the risk. It is not a tool we want to use. It is not a tool we like to use. It runs against the grain of white most of us got in this business. We do understand it creates hardship and comes with its own potential safety issue for others. But again we have seen catastrophic wildfire recently. In california. Southern california the last week there was another one this morning i think. We are just determined to not let that happen here. Lets move to how we are preparing for this weeks wind event. Given the forecast we looking at potentially turning up turning off power to 200,000 customers in parts of 16 counties. The counties are largely located in the sierra foothills. And the north bay. Parts of Mendocino County are potentially included as well as parts of San Mateo County. We began proactively contacting potentially impacted customers this afternoon. 48 hours ahead of the event. By phone email and text. This means if you do not receive notification from pg e you are not currently in the area we anticipate turning off the power. Other than parts of San Mateo County and some of napa and sonoma counties in the north bay we do not expect shutoffs in the remainder of the bay area. In terms of what is next we will continue to monitor the forecasted wind event. And update our customers and communities accordingly. Over the next day or so we will determine if an exactly where we will turn off the power depending on how weather conditions change. Once the winds are subsided we give our army of field personnel the all clear. Which means they can begin inspecting powerlines and other equipment and the impacted areas. We repair any damage from the wind we find. We turned the power back on. That is not just as easy is starting a switch and turning the power on. We will make every effort to restore power within 24 to 48 hours from the time the weather passed. For our customers planning purposes we suggest preparing for outages that could last up to 48 hours. Possibly longer depending on the extent of the storm and what conditions and damage happens. I think preparing for 48 hours is a good choice. Let me wrap up with how we are doing things differently from previous psp events. Based on lessons learned. First to prepare for a higher volume of website all visitors to pg e. Com will be redirected to a temporary site. With all the critical information on ps ps. This includes an address lookup tool to confirm whether your address is part of the potential shut off. As well as an outage map and downloadable maps for city and county leaders. As i said if youre one of the approximately 200,000 customers potentially affected we have and will continue to someone notify you directly. Other improvements are call centers will be focus on emergency and ps ps calls only. We have 380 agents available and wait times are about two seconds. For the Community Resource centers we would open during a ps ps to provide device charging restrooms and heating and air conditioning. We are working to acquire site accessible to all customers. You have been watching the ceo of pg e. He is talking about the potential for another Public Safety power shut off. It could happen in the next 48 hours. They are looking at a potential for 200,000 mpg in the customers in 15 or 16 different counties. They will know more as they deduce the weather coming up by midweek. They say those Power Outages could last up to 48 hours. Youre looking at parts of the sierra foothills of the north bay mendocino as well as san mateo counties. Bill johnson the ceo of pg e saying they will contact customers by phone email and text. If you do not hear from them you most likely are in the clear.
