Mandatory evacuations in sebastopol, bloomfield, valley forge, pillsbury, windsor, creighton, and bodega bay were told to get out last ght. Here is the latest from cal fire. As of last night the kincade fire is nearly 26,000 acres, about half the size of the city of oakland and containment stands at 11 . Flames have destroyed 77 buildings including 31 homes. Officials say more than 23,000 other buildings are at risk. Those numbers are expected to climb as wens fueled the active fire overnight. Lets go to emily with the latest. Just to give you an idea of exactly how windy it is out there i will give you a look on one of those peaks. Look at how much it is shaking around right now. We are getting reports that in the north bay there were gust clock that 80 miles an hour, sustained winds in the overnight hours, now this morning at 50 miles an hour. Your current temperatures right now, this isnt really relevant when it comes to this fire. It really is all about the wind speeds. In most areas south of the north bay you are fine, your kong, its a little bit breezy in the hills. Take a look at the north bay. Anywhere you see purple, those are major gusts. The fire is burning up there just off of the map and that is where we are seeing these sustained winds and gusts picking up. That will continue into mid morning and early afternoon hours. We are not in the clear yet. In fact, the wind morning and advisory in effect until monday at 11 am. We are talking again in the hills 30 to 50 and again gusts up to 80 miles an hour, which we have already seen caulked sustained at 50 miles an hour. That is where firefighters are up against when battling the kincade fire. You can see exactly where it is located, this point it is much bigger than this small flame. It is in healdsburg burning closer and closer to city limits. Our temperatures today will be in the upper 70s, wins for the most part 30 to 45 miles per hour, although right now we are seeing sustained winds at 50 and gusts, it will available little bit slowing down to 60 miles per hour. The problem is the humidity. It is already currently at ten , that is very dry. Overnight we expect things to be a little more wet so they can kind of calm the fuel load down. Unfortunately thats not what has happened. We have low humidity. In addition, we are also seeing those high, dry winds. As a result, this is causing major issues when it comes to the evacuations. Pretty much anything from geyserville all the way toward the coast has been evacuated, just to give you an idea. A lot of the road closures are here. Lets zoom in closer. You can see 128 is all closed and we have a reporter on the scene we will get to in just a moment. From here to the pacific those folks are under mandatory evacuations. These folks were told to get out by 4 oclock yesterday, so the traffic isnt so bad. These are disclosures as a result of the fire. However we are seeing the most problems around santa rosa. These are the new evacuations. Pretty much northbound from harbert, southbound from cloverdale full closure and effortlessly at this point. Zero miles an hour on 101, nobody is out there. Folks were trying to leave sevastopol down to seven miles an hour as well, it is not good news. You need to go ahead and get out to give yourself that extra time you will need on the roadways. The fastmoving kincade fire has forced more evacuations in Sonoma County. Officials have given a firm warning to the holdouts, they say get out now. Lets go live to kpixs Wilson Walker for the latest. Reporter the fire came down off the ridge behind me. I want to say around 3 30, 4 oclock this morning it was incredibly still here overnight until those winds crested that ridge and just pushed the fire right down through here. This barn structure burned back there and as you can see a couple hours later there are still crews here out trying to put out hotspots all around this area. And again, several hours after the fire came through here. Back behind this is a house whe am told that three separate times today they have had to go and extinguish hotspots on or around the house. We got here about 20 minutes ago in the house itself was on fire. This crew from the grass valley area was here on the spot and extinguished the fire. As you can see up here on the hillside, there were a number of structures burned in this area and further down the road. Katie nielsen will be able to show you the winery that was lost in the Early Morning hours here. Again, the scale of all of this kind of incredible. Healdsburg is completely deserted. At about four or five they were really giving it a hard to get out there to the last holdouts, the folks who had really stuck it out to the very end. I saw them frantically throwing things in cars trying to get out. Some of them, as Police Officers were shouting at them to leave. There was a tremendous line of traffic heading southbound on 101 right now is people continue to try to get out of this area. Even after all of the evacuations he will have people coming out of the woodwork to try to get out of here as the wind blows this fire generally towards the south. As we have been telling you, the evacuations extort extend southwards to santa rosa. The sun does not appear still so much uncertainty. I think for all of the folks running around there is a lot of confusion to what is really going on. Firefighters are just out here in force up and down the 128 corridor trying to protect the structures as best they can as the fire kind of gets to do about what it wants with the weather working like this. That is about what we can tell you from our little spot here in Sonoma County. The wind coming and going has been incredibly intense and sometimes maybe a little bit subdued. Maybe im being optimistic. But thats about it here from Sonoma County. We will send it back to you in the studio. Ive got a question for you. The people that are evacuating now, the people getting stuck on the road, is it that they underestimated their potential risk . Or were they staying in their homes perhaps with a hope of trying to protect from the fire if it came there . I ran into one family who said they had a stubborn father who just wasnt interested in leaving and they waited and waited and had a sheriffs deputy literally in their face telling them they had to leave. You know, you had some changing evacuation parameters as the concern has moved south. I think that has flushed some more people out of the highway as well. So southbound 101 in santa rosa a real mess right now. Be safe out there, wilson. Now lets turn to Katie Nielsen off highway 128. Out of the flames look behind you . Reporter soda rock winery is basically gone. With us right now is captain Robert Foxworthy with cal fire. Tell us exactly whats happening here and what firefighters were trying to do. I wasnt here specifically when they were here, but i know how these things work and most likely embers or some kind of fire impinge on the structure. Thats the main reason we ask people to leave when things like this happen. There is not much time and you need to go when youre asked to go. Reporter tell me about the wind speeds you have seen this morning and just how far these embers are going. You know, the wind speeds are extreme. The exact numbers im not sure, but i can tell you they are some of the most extreme ive ever felt in my career. They are throwing embers at a considerable distance and causing the spot fires to take off and its been a challenge to crews that are attending to the fire. What are the priorities this morning . Number one our priority is always life first. We protect life, so if there are still people in the area we will do our best to get them out. Then second, property. Getting to these Populated Areas and making sure that we can lessen the loss of those structures. Reporter and tell me about the difficulty you guys have in fighting fires in these types of winds. With winds like this is virtually impossible to get out there and be right on the edge of the fire and works abutted out on the ground as a firefighter. Our main priority is to get out in front and do the best we can to try to mitigate this problem. And make sure that people safely exit the area. Reporter and so we have actually seen a firefight a little bit up the road. It was a home firefighters were trying to save there. Tell me about how the resources are being deployed. You know, as i was heading up here there were considerable amount of fire and is coming and it seems they are plinas much at they cannot individual homes. They are getting ready for the fire to hit and do the best to stop it and extinguish it. Reporter we have seen a number of people who have waited to evacuate. Some residents are still here in areas. If anyone is in this area, what would you say to them right now at this point with the fire that we have come i would suggest you get to a safe place, larger lot, Something Like that. If there is a road that is safe to exit do that if you can. If you are unable, get yourself to a safe location where you have less of a chance of Raw Materials burning and weight for the fire intensity to lessen. Reporter i know one big question everyone has is where is the fire currently burning and most active and what is happening in healdsburg and windsor. Im unsure of what is actually happening there now. When i left there not too long ago the fire hadnt made it to those locations yet. I drove through both locations and there was no fire in healdsburg or windsor approximately half an hour ago. I know the fire is now west of 128 and progressing towards those locations, but exactly where it is im not sure. Reporter i know that you also came through chalk hill road not too long ago, kind of a cut over in between 128 and the Healdsburg Windsor area. What were you seeing that . Active firefighting, a considerable amount of resources and theyre doing their best to protect as many structures as possible. Reporter and just one last question for you. As firefighters, when youre trying to fight fires like this, how difficult is dealing with these winds and then the limited amount of water . We are used to working with limited amounts of water. We are good at that. We can manage that. We have water containers that bring water to us. That isnt an issue. Winds are an issue. They cause problems to us. We have gotten better at working this conditions the last two years, but it does make things more of a challenge and make things a little more difficult. Reporter thank you so much for joining us this morning, we really appreciate it. We are here at soto rock winery off highway 128 and at this point is basically a total loss. We are hoping firefighters are able to protect as many structures as possible. The main message this morning as if you have not evacuated and mandatory evacuation zones, you need to leave. That is because these winds are so strong, there are embers blowing all over the place out here and so that creates spot fires that firefighters make or may not be able to get to before they take off again. We are keeping an eye on that. The fire has now moved west of highway 128, but as of half an hour ago has not reached windsor or healdsburg. We are expecting an update from cal fire in a few hours. In the meantime Sutter Santa RosaRegional Hospital is in the kincade fire mandatory evacuation zone and last night they began evacuating the facility on mark west spring road. The evacuation involves about 100 patients, some of them by bus, others by ambulance. They have been brought to various other hospitals in the bay area and and surrounding neighborhoods. Law enforcement went doortodoor last night using bites and loudspeakers telling people to leave immediately. Meanwhile, all inmates at the north county detention facility have also been evacuated. The Sonoma CountySheriffs Department says they are being housed safely in alameda county. The Santa Rosa CitySchool District is closing all 24 schools on monday. Santa Rosa Junior College is following suit causing all campuses and online classes. The college of marins two campuses will also be closed monday and so will the Cal State Maritime Academy in vallejo. We have posted a full list on our website, cbssf. Com. As fire danger intensifies, thousands of pg e customers are in the dark. Another round of Public SafetyPower Outages is affecting nearly 1 million pg e customers across 36 counties. And we are going to go now to a special report from President Trump. Of hisfficials with him. In many waips, the Security Team he has around him, the National Security the secretary of the National Security officials from the secretariat of defense and National Security advisor are new to the job. What do we know about what the president has actually authorized . When did all of this again . Do we have any indication . We know very little about that at this point. As you mentioned, this is a white house in transition, a white house almost constantly and transition where you have a lot of people in these acting roles. As you mentioned, the National Security advisor john bolton recently left his post so the president is dealing with a new team on this. I would assume this is in operation that has been in the works for a while and was largely run at the pentagon. But the delay may be him getting a briefing from advisors at the white house. I can tell you that room was just set up about 20 minutes ago. I was in the west wing and i saw them carrying one of those flagpoles down the hallway. This is something we have put together very quickly this morning, even though given the president s tweet that last night something very big has happened. This is something they knew they were going to do this morning it is likely the president is getting a briefing before he comes out to give this address to the nation. And many ways this will open up to the president more questions about what happens next, his serious strategy has been changing day by day in terms of the number of u. S. Forces that will remain there. Does this hurt the argument for the pentagon that a chevron should be left . I dont think so, because the footprint that they want to leave is to protect the oil fields along the innate Euphrates River valleys. If you want to prevent isis from recovering from this, look, terrorist organizations have proven over the years they can suffer major and come back and fight some more. The one word you hear every military officer use when talking about isis is energy. I think you can expect isis to try to make a comeback and i think one way to do that would be to make some money off of those oilfields. I dont think its going to change the argument or the rationale for keeping those troops. Just to remind people, you know, isis and its leader back daddy, people often forget he was once in u. S. Custody back in iraq in 20032004 doing the u. S. Occupation of the Iraqi Government weekend and military weekend. Vacuums of power left in iraq and syria with a civil war that created this breeding ground for him to really rise as a terror leader. So there will be this argument that once the u. S. Pulls out more from syria you once again creating conditions conducive for isis to research . He was very much a creature, the original American Invasion in 2003, he was a member of al qaeda in iraq. At the time, the leader was zarqawi, who was the rockstar of terrorists back then, committing all of these public beheadings and being all over social media. And then along came the syrian civil war, which was just made to order for someone like him who is looking for an ungoverned space to restore it, regenerate it with his terrorist ambitions. Then of course there are a lot of people who will tell you that the obama administrations decision to pull u. S. Combat troops out of iraq was a further enabler of isis to get all the way really to the gates of baghdad. They have proven that they have made comebacks. We see President Trump walking to the podium right now. We know the House Intelligence Committee members, the leader of that committee has not been briefed so they may be learning about the details as we are right now. President trump, it appears waiting for the room to settle. Last night the United States brought the worlds number one terrorist leaders the justice. Abu bakr albaghdadi is dead. He was the founder and leader of isis, the most ruthless and violent Terror Organization anywhere in the world. United states has been searching for ghdadi for many years. Capturing or killing baghdadi has been the top National Security priority of my administration. U. S. Special Operation Forces executed a dangerous and daring nighttime raid in northwestern syria and accomplished their mission in grand style. The u. S. Personnel or incredible. I got to watch much of it. No personnel were lost in the operation. A large number of baghdadis fighters and companions were killed with him. He died after running into a deadend tunnel, whimpering and crying and screaming all the way. The compound had been cleared by this time with people either surrendering our being shot and killed. 11 Young Children or moved out of the house and are uninjured. The only ones remaining or baghdadi in the tunnel and he had dragged three of his Young Children with him. They were led to certain death. He reached the end of the tunnel as our dogs chased him down. He ignited his vest, killing himself and of the three children. His body was mutilated by the blast, the tunnel had caved in on him in addition. Test results gave certain immediate and totally positive identification. It was him. The thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spend his last moments in utter fear, in total panic and read, terrified of the American Forces bearing down on him. We were in the compound for approximately two hours and after the mission was accomplished we took highly sensitive material and information from the raid, much having to do with isis origins, future plans, things we very much want. Baghdadis demise demonstrates americas relentless pursuit of terrorist leaders and our commitment to the enduring and total defeat of isis and other terrorist organizations. Our reach is very long. As you know last month we announced we recently killed palms of bin laden, the very violent son of osama bin laden. It was saying very bad things about our people, our country, the world. He was the heir to al qaeda, terrorist to oppress and murder innocent people should never sleep soundly knowing that we will completely destroy them. These savage monsters will not escape their fate and they will not escape the final judgment of god. Baghdadi has been on the run for many years, long before i took office. But in my direction, as commanderinchief of the United States, we obliterated his caliphate 100 in march of this year. Todays events are another reminder that we will continue to pursue the remaining isis terrorists who are there to brutal and. That also goes for other terrorist organizations. They are likewise in our sites. Baghdadi and the losers who work for him and losers they are , they had no idea what they were getting into. In some cases they were very frightened puppies. And other cases they were hardcore killers. But they killed many, many people. The murder of innocent americans james foley, stephen sought law, peter cassock and Kayla Mueller were especially heinous. The shocking publicized murder of jordanian pilot, a wonderful young man who spoke to the king of jordan. They all knew him, they all loved him. He was burned alive in a cage for all to see. By the execution of christians in libya and egypt as well of the genocidal mass murder of ucds ranked isis among the most depraved organizations. The history of our world forest religious conversions, the orange suits prior to so many beheadings, all of which were openly displayed for the world to see. This was all that Abu Bakr Albaghdadi , this is what he wanted. This is what he was proud of. He was a sick and depraved man. Now he is gone. Baghdadi was vicious and violent and he died in a vicious and violent way, as a coward running and crying. This raid was impeccable and could only have taken place with the acknowledgment and help of certain other nations and people. I want to thank the nations of russia, turkey, syria and iraq. I also want to think the syrian kurds for certain support they were able to give us. It was a very, very dangerous mission. Thank you as well to the great intelligence professionals to help to make this very successful journey possible. I want to thank the soldiers and sailors, airmen and marines involved in last nights operation. You are the very best there is anywhere in the world, no matter where you go, there is nobody even close. I want to think general mark millie and our joint chiefs of staff. I also want to thank our professionals who work in other agencies of the United States government. And were critical to the missions unbelievable success. Last night was a great night for the United States. And for the world. A brutal killer, one who has caused so much hardship and death, has been violently eliminated. He will never again harm another innocent man, woman or child he died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place. God bless america. Thank you. Any questions . We have had him under surveillance for a couple of weeks, we know a little bit about where he was going, where he was heading, we had very good information he was going to another location. He didnt go. Two or three efforts were canceled because he decided to change his mind constantly changing his mind. And finally we saw that he was here, held up here, we knew something about the compound, we knew it had tunnels. The tunnels were deadend, for the most part. There was one we think that wasnt and we have that covered just in case. The level of intelligence, the level of work was pretty amazing. When we landed with eight helicopters, a large crew of brilliant fighters ran out of those helicopters and blue holes into the side of the building, not wanting to go through the main door because it was boobytrapped. And there was something really amazing to see. I got to watch it, along with general millie, Vice President pence, others in the situation room and we watched it so clearly. Reporter how did you watch this . I dont want to say how, but it was absolutely perfect, as though you are watching a movie. The technology their loan is really great. A big part of the trip that was of great danger was it was approximately an hour and 10 minute flight that we were flying over very, very dangerous territory. In fact, some of our leaders said that could be e most dangerous flying in and flying out. Thats why last night we were so quiet about it. We didnt say anything and i didnt make my remark until after they had landed safely in a certain area. But the flight in and flight out was a very, very dangerous part. There was a chance we would have met unbelievable fire. Russia treated us great, they opened up. We had to fly over surgeon russia areas, russia was great. Iraq was excellent. We really had quaker operation. You have to understand, they didnt know what we were doing and where we were going exactly. At the isis fighters are hated as much by russia and some of these in the countries as they are passed. Thats why i say they should start doing a lot of the fighting. Yes, jennifer . Reporter [ inaudible question ] they gave us not a military role at all, but they gave us information that happened to be helpful. Reporter [ inaudible question ] turkey, we dealt with them. They know we were going in. We flew over some territory, they were terrific. No problem. You know, they could start shooting and we would take them out, a lot of bad things could happen. Plus it was a very secret mission. We flew very very low very, very fast. But it was a very dangerous part of the mission. Getting in and getting out also. We took an identical route. We met with gunfire coming in, but it was local gunfire. But gunfire was immediately terminated. These people are amazing. They had the gunfire terminated immediately, meaning they were shot from the airships. Reporter [ inaudible question ] will tell you, fro first day i came to office, now we are getting close to three years, i would say where is baghdadi, i want baghdadi. We would kill numerous leaders, but they were names i never heard of, names that werent recognized, they werent the big names. Some good ones, some important ones, but they werent the big names. I kept saying where is al tran17. In a couple weeks ago they were able to scope him out. These people are very smart. They are very technically brilliant. They use the internet better than almost anybody in the world, perhaps other than donald trump. But they use the internet incredibly well. What theyve done with the internet, through recruiting and everything, thats what he died like a dog, he died like a coward who was whimpering, screaming and crying. Frankly i think that is something that should be brought out so his followers and all of these young coming back now to the extremely dangerous situation unfolding for thousands and Sonoma County. In just the last hour parts of northern santa rosa were giving a mandatory evacuation order. Officials also announced new mandatory evacuations in transvaal, broomfield and valley forge, people in windsor, and bodega bay were told to get out last night. Here is the latest from cal fire as of last night. The kinkaid fire is nearly 26,000 acres and growing, about half the size of the city of oakland. Containment stands at 11 percent flames have destroyed 77 buildings including 31 homes. Officials say more than 23,000 buildings are also at risk. Those numbers are expected to client as winds fueled active fire overnight. We will have a complete update, including live reports after this break. Breaking news, evacuations expand overnight. This new video shows the kinkaid fire tearing through Sonoma County. The question this morning, is the fire getting away from firefighters . We have a team of reporters on scene right now. Thank you so much for joining us. The fire activity and Sonoma County developed rapidly overnight. Lets get right to the evacuation zones. Parts of northern santa rosa are under mandatory evacuation orders. Officials also announced new mandatory evacuations in sevastopol, broomfield, valley ford, Healdsburg Windsor, and bodega bay were told to get out last night. Lets go to emily and the weather center. The main concern right now has absolutely everything to do with the wind. We are taking a look at the camera right now and you can see is being shaken around significantly. At the top of these peaks, whether its the east bay, but especially the north bay, that is where we are seeing the most significant wind gusts. Temperatures are actually pretty mild and will be cooler today. We have seen the last couple of days mostly in the 50s. The temperatures arent what we are keeping an eye on, its the wind speeds. At this moment we look pretty calm around the bay, but as you move forward nor take a look at we really want to and i the purple. At our peaks is where we are seeing the most of it. Northern santa rosa where the fire is burning its going to increase significantly. I checked in with the National Weather service and they have officially clocked sustained wind speeds of 50 miles an hour, gusts that up to 80 miles an hour on the peaks and thats essentially just blowing the fire and embers towards the pacific, which is really where we are seeing these evacuation zones. The high wind warning is in effect all the way until monday. No reason to reprieve anytime soon. We are still seeing significant gusts at this hour all the way to midmorning, maybe in the afternoon hours as we start to see things begin to lay down for today are at about 60 miles per hour. Look at your Weather Forecast specifically for this fire, temperatures in the upper 70s, winds are stayed anywhere from 30 to 45 miles an hour during the daytime. Those gusts will get up to 60 miles per hour. The humidity is also another thing we are keeping a close eye on, its really low. As of this morning, 10 get up to 20 percent, but in the afternoon hours clear, dry air comes off of the syria and gets barreling towards the coast it will continue to dry out the fuel sources as this fire is burning, which is why they have taken an abundance of caution and evacuated so many people in Sonoma County. Your high temperatures will be mostly in the 70s and its the wind speeds we are keeping an eye on. Evacuations are causing quite an issue when it comes to the traffic. You can see 101 on the traffic map. This entire area all the way to the coast has now been under, or put under a mandatory evacuation. You can see as folks are leaving, look at the speed southbound on 101 heading into petaluma down to 17 miles an hour. If that zero miles an hour in santa rosa because 101 and shut down in both directions. Lets start where this fire is right now, it has jumped. Highway 128 and it is burning southbury closer to healdsburg. Urethane drive speeds in the orange and red. This is the closure, cloverdale south, hopper north on 101 in the overall picture again is it is backed up. If you are looking to leave you need to go ahead and do so because you will need the extra time. The fastmoving kinkaid fire has forced more evacuations in Sonoma County and officials have given holdouts the hard out. Lets go to Wilson Walker with the latest. Reporter we are here on sort of the side of the valley. If you go past the eastern edge of healdsburg you get this sort of rural interface where the valley hits the ridge and that is where the fire descended and hit these properties. We are trying to figure out what this might have been. You can see the vehicle that is there. This clearly would have been a difficult place to have been in difficult conditions last night. The winds picked up really fast, i mean really fast. It went from just a light breeze at around one in the morning and then sustained winds of 20 miles an hour within about 30 or 45 minutes. It happened really quickly. Katie nelson was showing you some of the properties in this area that were destroyed by these flames and it has been sort of a generally southern move of the fire. He remember last night the focus was on the evacuation area pushing towards the pacific and that sort of really striking map. We thought the fire would move westward, but here it has really been more of a southern direction, from my understanding , having watched the fire moved down the hill and through this area east of healdsburg you can see there are still just a small army of firefighters out here on every street you can find regarding the hope that it made it and trying to move ahead of the flames as they creep along with the wind. We were just discussing the evacuations stretching down to santa rosa. I think that may be the one thing that kind of cop people slightly by surprise in the overnight hours. It wasnt the sort of across 101 fear, but more of the southern direction that had people concerned. Traffic has circled down toward santa rosa in the last hour and southbound traffic was at about a standstill. By the time you get to stay close to highway 12 that last bit was really crawling. Devon, you asked who were the folks leaving, where the were still quite a few people appear. When i went to healdsburg at the height of the heart get out when they were driving around shouting at people to leave, there were still plenty of folks throwing things in cars and bringing things out of the garage. There were a lot of folks still appear. I think in the overnight hours when the wind picked up you can see that red orange glow out the side of town, i think that was the last straw for folks. And those of the folks youre looking at on the highway right now. More than 2000 firefighters out there. Can you get a good feel . Are things frantic . Do they feel like they have everything under control . What is the general sense there . Reporter you know what, considering the weather that was anticipated and sure enough it picked up, it picked up fast and hard this morning, the preparation was pretty astounding. There were folks everywhere, they really had a game plan. We talked a lot this week about the preposition of firefighters ahead of incidents to sort of get a handle on it. And the county supervisor mentioned this twice in the last couple of days, they have done this so many times they have a game plan. Noing at all, you know opening 12 hours of the wine country firestorm caught everyone by surprise. This, there was definitely some time for preparation and i think thats what we are seeing this morning as preparation having gone a long way to being ready for this morning, frankly. Was in firefighters have two goals, they want to protect people and property. Often you cant get to the second until you have done the first. How is that balanced where you are . Reporter you know, we certainly havent seen any problems. And mentioned there were people here. I havent seen any frantic rescues or anything like that. I think it was sort of stragglers making their way out. Overnight along the 128 corridor there is property staggered along that road and there was a crew at every single one of them. There were some standing by every single building to make an effort to save whatever structure it might be and save the ones that werent lost in the height of it. I think there will be a lot of Success Stories out here for buildings that were saved. For more breaking news right now, a fire burning in oakley near Bethel Island and cyprus rhodes where evacuations are underway. Well keep you updated as we have dispatched a tour to that area. Lets go to katie nelson off of highway 28. Are there any specific goals firefighters have in mind or tactics they looking at . Reporter right now, as you can see, soto rock winery is basically a loss. But the goal this morning is to try to save as many structures as possible. And so here you can actually see an outbuilding that has burned. But if we look over to the left , you can see one that hasnt. There is actually an engine that is positioned there. They are trying to save structures, thats something wilson has been talking about this morning. The problem theyre facing right now is the winds and what is happening is as things are burning, it is sending all of these embers high up into the air and they are getting blown anywhere from half a mile to a mile away starting new fires. They are trying to get ahead of that as much as they can and try to save the structures that they can. Unfortunately, soto rock winery is basically a total loss. So we were just talking with captain foxworthy from cal fire a few minutes ago and what he told us is that the fire has now crossed over to the westside of highway 128 and is making its way south and west toward the communities of healdsburg and windsor. But as of about 6 oclock this morning , it has not made it into those communities yet. The places where we are seeing the structures being lost, and also structures being defended and saved, are all here right in the heart of Alexander Valley wine country, right along highway 128. Anywhere that you have property thats right up against the hills, the vineyards actually are creating some decent fire breaks for firefighters. The problem is there is so much open space and brush and that is where firefighters are having the most difficult time. As we keep saying, time and time again, this is a very rapidly changing situation and when told to evacuate people need to do so immediately. The winds we are experiencing now are up there with some of the most intense winds that i have seen lately. Remake how dangerous of the situation is this for people who have not yet evacuated . It could be deadly at this point. There is a reason we ask you to get out before. Now the fire is here and we are in an active firefight. If you do have the ability to still get out, please do that before the fire reaches you. Reporter we have heard this time and time again, this is eerily similar to what this entire region experienced in 2017, almost exactly two years ago with the tubs fire, the atlas fire that also impacted one country. The difference this time is those evacuation orders were given early. At this point, through the Alexander Valley, we have not actually seen a lot of people who are still in this area. The majority of the folks or along here near jim town, highway 128, they have heated those evacuation warnings and are out. What that does is it gives firefighters the chance to get in here and try to save as many structures as possible. We heard some people yesterday saying no, im going to stick it out, im going to try to save my home. But the reality of it is firefighters have a much better chance of doing that if they are able to get into the area, they are highly trained, they have the equipment and just let them do their job. When we were talking with captain foxworthy not long ago, he said there is almost a congestion of fire trucks going up and down chalk hill road that actually cuts in between highway 128 and the communities of healdsburg and windsor, its kind of a winding country road that comes up and over the hill there. He says they have so many fire trucks, their goal is to try to protect as many structures as possible. What if they have to turn that into lifesaving efforts, that takes their focus away from saving structures because obviously the number one priority is saving lives. That is why they are asking everyone to heed those evacuation warnings. As you look right here, you can actually see the top of this building showering off embers into the night sky. They are flying up to 200 feet into the air and being picked up by the wind and carried off. That is what is causing this fire to spread so rapidly. And it also makes it difficult for firefighters to try to come as captain foxworthy said, put out the fire. That is not the goal right now, the goal is to just to try to protect the structures. You cant really work on firefighting until the winds finally calmed down and im sure emily can talk a little bit more about when and how that is going to happen. But for right now, firefighters doing what they can unfortunately here at soto rock winery most of the winery has already burned. This is a very, very rapidly changing situation. So that is why firefighters are saying please get yourself to safety, stay away, let us do our jobs and we will try to keep you updated as soon as possible. Again, we are here off of highway 128. Im sorry i have to move over because a fire truck is coming through. We are here off of highways 128. This truck was on the other side of one of the winery buildings doing structural protection. We have another truck coming through, hold on one second. I know its going to be a little bit loud. So again, we are here off of highway 128 south of jim town. We will try to keep you posted throughout the morning about what is happening here in Alexander Valley. What we are being told, this is the most active part of the fire at this point. It is the area that has firefighters very concerned for the structures. The other main goal today is to try to keep this fire out of healdsburg and windsor , but all of that is going to depend on the winds. We are expecting an update from cal fire with more upto date numbers on just how many acres this fire is on the percentage containment later.
