In a new interview, attorney general william barr says the fbi may have acted in bad faith when it opened a probe into possible collusion between russia and the trump campaign. Now the comments come after a watchdog report concluded the agency was justified in opening the investigation. Ben tracy has the details. Reporter attorney general william barr is once again siding with President Trump, offering a scathing critique of the fbis investigation into the 2016 trump campaign. I think our nation was turned on its head for three years. I think based on a completely bogus narrative, i think that leaves open the possibility to infer bad faith. Reporter barr is contradicting his own Inspector General who found the fbi acted legitimately and with no political bias in launching the probe into the trump campaigns potential ties with russia. The report did, however, find the fbi made significant mistakes in its warrant applications for wiretap surveillance of the campaign. Clearly spied upon. Thats what electronic surveillance is. Reporter barr, who also staunchly defended President Trump after the release of special counsel Robert Muellers report, is now essentially echoing the president s view that its all been a hoax and a witchhunt. At a rally in pennsylvania, the president said this folks, they spied on our campaign, okay. They spied. [ boos ] never happened before in the history of our country. Reporter the president and the attorney general are now at odds with fbi director Christopher Wray who said the bureau was right to launch the probe and called President Trumps agent the deep state. Thats not a term i would use to describe our work force, and i think its an affront to them. Reporter in a tweet, President Trump ominously called wray the current director of the fbi, adding that with that kind of attitude he will never be able to fix the fbi.
