The homeless mothers who took over a vacant house on magnolia street are currently being evicted by the Alameda County Sheriffs Department. They wanted to draw attention to the homeless crisis thats happening around the bay area. They took over that house and have been living there since november. Those women went to court asking a judge to be allowed to stay but on friday the judge ordered the women to be evicted within 5 days. The Sheriffs Department there right now with deputies. We just saw some of them in handcuffs. They did release a statement. Released an emailed statement this morning. And it reads. Instead of allowing us to buy this home through the Oakland Community land strus. Wedgewood ceo has chosen to enact physical violence on us and our families. We wont leave our homes and neighbors. Jackie ward showed you what was happening at the house with the protesters that were there in support of those moms. They formed a human chain to try to prevent deputies from going in and evicted them. And kpix 5s jackie ward on the way there right now shell have a live report coming up. For now, back to you. A live look now at manetta International Airport in san jose where some major changes could be coming and stgss jackie ward has more on the much needed makeover plan that could take a big step forward today. Passenger growth rate has consistently grown over the past two years. Its grown so much its been double the National Passenger groesdz rate. That means manetta has to expand and needs room for all these people to go. Under the proposed plan connecting to terminal b. That would replace two surface parking lots and eight gates. If approved once its finished it would allow passengers to walk the entire length of the airport terminals. We are going to go back and propose to build terminal c once again and well build up to 42 gates. We are proposing to provide more long term and short term parking for our travelers and an airport hotel. The airport still owes more than a billion dollars of the last billion and a half dollar expansion cost. They say theyve planned for this project despite that. Plus in the next three to four years their payment drops by about 12 million. That leaves 12 million ek says bont parttime. From manetta International Airport. We did a survey of about 1000 californians and 2 3 of the people without insurance just didnt think they were eligible. Before the state money was on the table. People just dont think they can get fvenl help and they think its too expensive. Many of us get help with our jobs. If you dont have employer based insurance. Great information. So that low pressure system that did bring that weak cold front our way that brought some wet weather for us late last night and early this morning and tracking a stronger storm system for Late Wednesday into thursday. Were continuing to follow breaking news out of west oakland this morning where right now Alameda County sheriffs deputies are evicting the homeless mothers who have occupied a vacant home on magnolia street. We were just able to confirm that five people have been arrested including some of those moms those arrests for obstruction as the Alameda County sheriffs deputies trying to clear them out. There have been hundreds of protesters in front of the home showing support for the moms. They say this entire thing highlights the homelessness crisis as well as the lack of affordable housing. On friday, the moms asked a judge to be allowed to stay in a home owned thniheir request said they had to get out this morning. Those deputies evicting them from that home. New video just into our news room is showing the moments that some of the moms occupying a once vacant home were arrested for obstruction along with a couple of other protesters. A number of people shouting. They needed to be cited and released. One of the moms screaming she did not know where she was ve. She was just trying to live. Now this all started back in november when a group of women called moms for housing took over a once vacant house. That house belongs to a Southern California Real Estate Development company and the moms went to the judge asking to be allowed to stay when the company wanted them out. That happened on friday, the judge said no, that they were to be evicted within five business days. Now the Alameda County Sheriffs Department this morning with deputies forcing them out of that home. Kpix 5 jackie ward on her way to the scene and well have a live report in just a few minutes. Taking a live look now at the manetta san jose International Airport which could look much larger in the future. Airport officials are going to present plans to expand sjc at that meeting. The proposal includes adding a third terminal and expanding the airport to 42 permanent gates. Our airport growth has been significant over the past five years. The Alameda County Sheriffs Department is on scene here and as you can see here there is an incredible crowd here in support of the moms and the kids who live in this house. Their presence in this home on magnolia street has caused a National Conversation about housing and the lack of it. Wedgewood properties has of course offered to play for the next 2 months of a shelter but the moms called that offer an insult. They want the home to be sold to the Oakland Community land trust in which the city would then own it and the money would be given back to Wedgewood Properties and if that were to happen that would ensure that wooem who were working who were working people who were working class.
