Oakland Police Investigating a series of hate crimes. The first attack happened at the lgbtq center on lakeshore avenue on saturday. Witnesses say man on a bike road up to the center and smashed the front windows with a golf club. So far, no arrests. Then yesterday, a vandal defaced a home in a traditionally black neighborhood on maxwell avenue spray painting all lives matter. A similar incident happened on carmelo coolidge. Police say that a manikin and a street sign or spray painted. Fire danger is heating up. Crews battled multiple grass fires across the bay area today. Police say someone set several fires up along the iron horse trail on Pleasant Hill in concord just two hours ago. At one point, extra firefighters were called in to make sure the flames did not reach a structure. Police are now looking for the person responsible. Both fires are now contained. In san jose, crewss audit another grass fire ending a large plume of smoke into the air. Firefighters are saying its part near tors road. High fire danger is a concern in the northbay hills right now. Meteorologist paul hagan has been tracking those red flag conditions for us. Paul, what can you tell us . The wind will die down and change direction and that will help for the northern half of salina county, that red flag warning continues for the next three hours. The county signed cited a recent uptick in coronavirus cases as well as hospitalizations. Same thing in contra costa county. Several businesses such as bars, gyms, hotels, Indoor Dining were slated to open on wednesday. The county says it will set a new date when cases and hospitalization rates are under control. I am elizabeth cook. The governor keeping a close eye on 19 counties as part of a state watchlist. Today, Solano County was added to that list. That already includes contra costa and santa clara counties. The governor said hospitalization rates in Solano County spiked by 24 . The outbreak is linked to farmworkers who live in solano but work at the vineyards in sonoma and napa. Overall, more than 5300 cases have been reported in california in just the past 24 hours. That is a 45 jump in cases in the past week alone. The governor is particularly concerned about the increasing positivity rate. In the past week its climbed to nearly 6 . Hospitalization rates have also gone up 43 in the last two weeks. The governor is forcing seven different counties, including los angeles and fresno to reclose their bars. He is recommending the same for eight other counties including contra costa and santa clara counties. The governor said more rollbacks could come if numbers continue to rise. Reporter for march is calling to defund the police and action by the mayor of berkeley, today berkeley mayor jesse at a gain announced a Budget Proposal that would take near0 million, or 12 out of berkeley pds budget. The money coming out of the Police Department not only helps balance our general fund which sees significant impacts 2 19, but it will go towards helping support the works towards transforming our safety, funding homeless services, funding social services. Reporter it would not involve laos but would leave vacant positions empty and would maintain the current number of 166 sworn officers. The proposal would also shift parking and Traffic Enforcement away from sworn officers as well as handing over some calls to social workers. Most Police Officers, they sign up to be Police Officers. They didnt sign up to be social workers and Mental Health workers. Increasingly a lot of the time we are seeing staff having to do that kind of intervention. Reporter as it stands, 44 of berkeleys budget is spent on policing. That is wares, chfo to things that really matter and that will actually help the community. I think that we still need some services, police services. But i think that often times policemen are used when social workers might be a better fit for the situation thats going on. We need to do this in a way that is inclusive with the Police Department and the police association. We cant be making unilateral decisions especially things that affect their jobs.
