Only Elementary School students can take them off in the classroom. The new guidelines apply to all 31 School Districts in santa clara county. The zoo was due to open today and the San Francisco mayor london breed unveiled the plans last week. Before the surge in coronavirus cases halted those plans. The zoo is not happy about this. Management feels as if the zoo should be classified as Outdoor Museum and be allowed to open with modifications. In a statement it says quote sf zoo and gardens has consistently been denied inclusion in the Outdoor Museums or parks category. If you are looking to get a free test at San Franciscos embarcadero test site, the wait for an appointment a about a week. Testing you know, testing is not foolproof. And people can have negative tests and then turn positive the next day or two days later. Recent data shows the surge in cases stems from memorial day. Statewide. New cases are up 74 compared with two weeks ago. Researchers at uc berkeley are trying out new kind of test to speed up coronavirus monitoring. A trial for a saliva test is being carried which means theres no need for nasal swabs and ppe. It could mean mass testing without the need for Trained Medical personnel. The trial currently involves people resuming work on campus but it could be used for when students return in the fall. Saliva seems to be the most practical way to use some of these tools to monitor employees coming back to work. So as were waiting you know, a clinical approval of this test, we have to make sure that all the positives and inconclusion lives are referred to a clip cal test. That test is being used under an emergency approval and researchers are still trying to nail down its reliability. 6 34. New this morning, new york making significant budget cuts to the citys police department. Council members voted tuesday to approve an 88 billion city budget. Which slashed 1 billion from the pd. The cuts include reducing the police force by 1100 and cutting the overtime budget by nearly 300 million. The nypd hasnt commented on the changes. And back here in california, new ideas moving forward to defund the Los Angeles Police department yesterday. The la city Council Voted to divert many 911 calls to a new Crisis Response team. Calls about homeless, mentally ill, or nonviolent drug cases will go to unarmed trained responders rather than armed officers. The city is going to work with homeless advocates and Mental Health experts on how thats going to work. A step some have been pushing for for years. More often than not, one such calls become violent they become violent at the hands of the police. Some members also floating the idea to take Traffic Enforcement away from the lapd. Claiming traffic stops with minority drivers often escalate into arrests or violence. But the union says that is a bad idea. There have been Numerous Police officers who have been killed on traffic stops. So i dont know how hes to put someone in harms way is absolutely irresponsible. The Council Member who cosponsored the idea says he expected the pushback but believe its a good sign theyre having conversations about public safety. The lausd school board approved some changes to its police force. Last night the board of education approved a 35 cut to the School Police forces. A reduction of 25 million in the budget. Also called for officers to give up uniforms and patrols offcampus. Those changes will lead to layoffs of 65 officers in the department. Money saved will be used to fund s serve the needs of black students, to washington now, President Trump vowing to veto the defense spending bill if the amendment requires bases named after confederate generals to be renamed. He posted a tweet last night attacking democratic senator Elizabeth Warren in the annual Defense Authorization bill, warren proposed removing the names of confederate leaders from all military assets within three years. The new Free Trade Agreement between u. S. And mexico and canada goes into effect today. The usmca agreement replaces the 26yearold north american Free Trade Agreement and was a key Campaign Point in 2016 for President Trump. It comes after human remains were found in a shallow grave about 30 miles from fort hood. The 20yearold went missing on april 22nd. The familys attorney believes the remains are hers but forensics will still need to be confirmed. Her family says she was sexually harassed on base before going missing. The hayward city Council Voted to increase the amount unanimously last night. But for employers with 25 or fewer workers, the rate will move to 14 an hour.
