To make the union rep for 750 workers said that workers in Lake Cunningham repeatedly raised concerns that the park supervisors were not following the citys own safety precautions. They were not doing any screenings in the morning like they are supposed to be doing. They were not supposed to be meeting indoors. Blanco says in person Staff Meetings were held in a small Conference Room at the park headquarters. Workers were Wearing Masks but could not socially distance and other workers would eat lunch together inside the room in close proximity. Ive been working with this department ever since may, and they just are not taking it seriously. The Parks Department did not respond to questions about safety procedures not being followed. As for the parks current status spokesperson said its important to note that employees do not generally have contact with the public and the park remains open. No one volunteered so they had to choose people at random. S San Quentin State Prison more than 1300 inmates have tested positive, about 40 of the entire population, and seven have died. Reporter yeah, inmates for those who are incarcerated, a large group of people showed up at the prison to essentially call for the release of more inmates. They are calling on the governor to send down the prison population to help sort of slow the spread of the virus within the prison walls. Now, this is obviously a tremendous mess that has caused a lot of fingerpointing and a lot of outrage. There was an inmate transfer that brought the virus into san quentin. Theres been a lot of discussion about who is responsible and today we heard some real fingerpointing on this. Both the governor and Assembly Member mark levine talking about the fact that the prison system in california is not entirely managed by the state of california. There is a federal receiver who oversees, specifically matters prres Assembly Member levine talking today about the man who oversees the federal receivership. The federal receiver has a name, he cant hide behind this weird name, it is an actual human. He has rearranged chairs on the deck of his titanic. Hes moved people from one job to another as though hes replacing staff, but they are still on payroll. We are still paying them, they need to go. There are people that can do this job better. At 131 capacity, down below 100 , that will happen. In addition to that we are looking to decompress san quentin even more. The governor had to address all these issues and while he did not call out the federal receiver by name as you heard the Assembly Member do, he did talk at length about the relationship between the state and federal government and how they both have to Work Together to manage the prison system. The governor says hes working with a judge to sort out that relationship. The governor seeming to point to some frustrations as to how that is working. So, a lot of conversation still to come about the blame here and then the whole conversation about how you get prisoners out of the prison. That was a big issue the Group Brought up, they want to see more prisoners released. How did the governor respond to that request . He mentioned his targets that hes trying to get below 100 . But they want to see many more prisoners released. They point to the fact that about half the prisoners in the population are considered low risk offenders and they want to see many more people brought out of the prisons. That is a conversation that will continue in the weeks ahead, how many more people should be pulled out to prevent the spread inside.
