Lets get a check of the weather with meteorologist mary lee and we are expecting high temperatures over this Holiday Weekend. We are looking at extreme heat for the Holiday Weekend. We want to watch temperatures climb and also we are tracking the smoke. We still have that spare the air alert extended all the way through saturday. We are looking at the unhealthy air for portions of the north bay and right around the bay, so there is a spare the air alert in effect, extended through saturday, likely beyond that as well. The strong rage is in place. The daytime highs are right around where we should be for this time of year but we will stay hot through the weekend with excessive heat warnings and advisories and effects. We are looking at our roadways and so far, so good. Here is the golden gate bridge. Traffic is moving at the limit and we will likely see less cars on the roadway today. Things are clear into the city and off to a great start for most of our bay area bridges. There are no trouble spots. Traffic is pretty light around the Oakland Emeryville area. The drive time around the san mateo bridge is 10 minutes. Travel times for the most part are all in the green. We will get a closer look at the Allatoona Pass in my next report. Some parents say their kids were given online lessons that were racist and homophobic. The School District says it has since been removed. This program was created by someone after receiving complaints about some of its questions. I thought there is something considered traditional families two why parents and two white children and that was right versus a black child. Teacher say this is a wake up call to make some changes in the district. We have curriculum that comes from this ethnocentric base and we are starting to change the way we look at curriculum, so we adopted something that is more culturally responsive. We have not heard back but the district says the company did make changes to the program right away and it has been used over the years as a way for kids to make up credit to pass classes. The district says it will cut ties with the company and they hope to provide more information about a new program next week. The city of vallejo has reportedly reached a settlement with the family of a man fatally shot by police after he was initially pulled over for not having a light on his bicycle. This is footage from february 2018, right before officer ryan mcmahon shot and killed foster. It outraged many of them but they say mcmahon was justified in using deadly force. According to the news, they settled for 5. 7 million. The year before foster was shot, officer mcmahon was involved in another shooting with mccoy in a talk about drivethrough. We learned the police chief recommended that mcmahon be fired. With temperatures expected to hit the triple digits this weekend, the question this morning is are we going to lose power again . Evacuation orders have been lifted around the bonny doon area and the lamarr area of San Mateo County. There is a new problem. There is no fresh water after the fire melted a pipeline. Santa clara is one of the bay area counties that has not been approved for a president ial disaster declaration. One supervisor has sent an urgent request to governor newsom, asking for help getting his county on the list to receive Disaster Assistance of following fema. Without federal aid, the supervisor says many ranchers will struggle to get back on their feet. Santa clara county might be on the verge of getting the green light to reopen its economy. This morning, county leaders are saying not so fast. They say Santa Clara County moved from the purple to the red tier two weeks ago, which means as soon as next tuesday, the state could allow the county to reopen indoor personal care services, restaurants, and churches.
