Or make thousands of ballots have been asked already, tonight, the safeguards put in place to make sure yours are counted. And why a growing number of bay area families are turning to private jets during the pandemic. Good evening, now at 11 and streaming on cbsn bay area, high fire danger expected overnight as hot temperatures combined with whipping winds and low humidity. Paul heggen has a red flag warning set to take effect in just a few hours. This goes into effect at 5 00 wednesday morning for most of the bay area. So the north bay, inland east bay and Santa Cruz Mountains are included in this. The most dangerous weather conditions will shape up tomorrow night into thursday morning. A beginning late tonight, even before the sun comes up, we will see dropping humidity levels and gusting winds. Starting in the 40 to 50 range for the lowest values but those numbers just crater as we head into the afternoon, down to around nine or 10 by 3 00 in the afternoon. That is not unusual but what is unusual is the offshore wind will keep the relative humidity levels very low. Throughout tomorrow night and no recovery overnight, combined that with gusting winds kicking in and thats a dangerous combination. By tomorrow midafternoon the wind will be at about 10 to 20 miles per hour. By midnight we are talking about 25 to 35 mile per hour gusts that will continue into early thursday morning. All that combined will allow any fire that gets started to rapidly spread. We will hope everyone is cautious and we dont see any new fires that actually get started. That of course plays into the power situation as well read i will come back with details on the heat and air quality in a few minutes. Thousands of pg e customers in seven bay area counties could lose their power because of this wildfire risk. The only counties not on the watchlist are San Francisco and marin. But going dark is not the only concern. For many communities in the north bay, Andrea Nakano is in calistoga where residents just returned home after the glass fire. Reporter tonight here in calistoga theres of feeling of year we go again, its warm, dry and you can still smell the smoking is from the glass fire. Now this community is preparing for a Public Safety but off but the real question is can it prevent another fire. I just want to live a normal life. Its just so much chaos going on. I was staying at a hotel in bakersfield because everything in napa was booked. I didnt know where to go, i had my family, my wife and two kids. Its like where do we go, you know . Pg e is trying to reduce the impact only a small area in the affected communities. Our intent was to make them as small as we can, make them as short as possible and as smart for our customers. According to pg e its using these temporary generators to provide power to roughly 1500 customers in the downtown calistoga area. It has a similar microgrid in england. The hope is that the winds state relatively calm and pg e wont have to initiate that ps ps. Businesses have had enough disruptions in 2020. Put the fires and covid, and everything else, its been so upanddown. The main concern is whether or not another fire will spark during the red flag warning. Pg e has set up a base camp between st. Helena and calistoga. It has all the equipment to restart service once the fire danger passes or the crews needed to respond to that power gas adages if another major fire ignites. I know what it is, its a war, climate change. Thats the war. The shutoffs, if they happen, are expected to start at 6 00 tomorrow night. Pg e should have more of an idea by tomorrow morning. If all goes well the power should be back on by friday. Onto campaign 2020, tonight the question lots of voters want answered, what are Election Officials in doing to ensure your vote gets counted . People are a big part of the process, checking signatures and making sure computers were in correctly. And what about vote harvesting . Can you take someone elses vote to a box . They have design giving me authorization to drop off their ballot. There has been a shift in who is flying in how they are doing it. Betty yu shows us why private jets are becoming the preferred way for some we to travel. Reporter the pandemic may have stalled commercial air travel but more people are getting on board with private jets. Companies are seeing a rise in demand from people worried about exposure on a commercial airplane or cramped terminals in the age of covid. The price for safety and peace of mind, a light chat starts at 5000 per hour. I think private jets are usually something people take about as a lifestyle or productivity tool. It really turned into a utility. It is on track for a record making sales month, the best is 20 year history. Its bringing up to 40 million in chat card purchases of flight hours per month. A typical month would range between 20 and 25 million. Business travel has dipped during the pandemic for new customers are fueling this boom. Sentient is now back to the same value of flights they were doing at this time last year. Im not spending an hour or hour and a half sometimes trying to get into the airport or out of the airport. Checking makes it much simpler. Bread often commutes between burbank and oakland or concord. Flights start at 89 per person. Like many jed companies it is ramping up cleaning and rolling out new sterilization and contactless protocols. You walk in and you have a machine you stand in front of the you take your temperature. You get online and there is social distancing circles. But its not in line with 15, 20 or 30 people. Sentient says that the bay area is a Main Business hub for them and more people are flying out of the bay area then entering the pandemic. 10 parks in the east Bay Regional Parks district are closing due to high fire danger. If all goes well they will reopen by friday morning at 11. Just in time to enjoy the weekend. And its going to be toasty, and people need to be careful. Yes, that is the main thing over the next couple of days. While we are still waiting to hear specific reasons why the the glass fire got started, it is not the time to be careless with anything that can get a sparkling. That is all it would take as temperatures build up. But its even more complicated than that, there is a storm system over the Pacific Ocean that is getting stronger and amplifying the area of High Pressure that is going to lead to our hot temperatures and our dry gusty offshore winds that will be kicking it over the next couple of days. That ramps up the fire danger which we talked about in our first segment, and we want to talk about the air quality. It is good for now. The area of High Pressure will drop anything court near the surface. At worst, if, big if, if no new fires get started the worst we will be looking at is moderate air quality. Some of the other wildfire smoke from around the state can get blown in and out. But no spare the air day for us unless local fires get started once again. That is a big possibility. Right now though, beautiful with temperatures mostly in the 60s. Santa rosa still hanging onto 72 degrees and the temperatures in the north bay will help escalate the fire danger as we head through the day tomorrow. But especially tomorrow night into thursday morning. Temperatures tonight in the upper 50s and low 60s across the board to begin the day on wednesday. Temperatures will heat up, so that big doggie smile on freckles may not be such a big doggie smile when the heat kicks in. In valeo, in the upper 80s on wednesday but likely up to around 90 by thursday and friday with other inland portions of the bay area heating up to an even greater extent. So take it easy on your for friends. Temperatures will reach the low 70s along the coast tomorrow. 80s for the most part around the bay, some of the warmer spots touching 90. And low to mid 90s for inland portions of the bay area. The trivalley reaching the mid 90s and talking mid to upper 90s e. Of the diablo range. That is close to recordsetting for this time of the year. I think the only spot that will set a record High Temperature tomorrow is concord. But there could be more of those record High Temperatures thursday and friday before things start backing off a little bit on saturday. More of a retreat to normal temperatures by sunday, monday and tuesday of next week. Hey everybody, a shark player is coming back to team teal emma yet again.
