We do have a trouble spot. Westbound 80 at magazine street. The ride into vallejo is pretty slow. We already have brake lights. A slow right into the Altamont Pass with a 38 minute drive time. We just got this new video in, the aftermath of a deadly siege that is now over. It happened in afghanistan. At least 19 people have died. 22 are injured. Three attackers stormed the schools campus. All of them were killed in the firefight which lasted for several hours. The taliban just issued a statement, denying they took part in this. This comes as they are continuing peace talks with the u. S. Backed government. Eventually the aim is to have the u. S. Withdrawal from afghanistan completely but that is not helping matters. One more day until election day but for many voters actually going to the polls on the first tuesday of november is a thing of the past. Reporter it used to be you wake up on the first tuesday of the month and you make sure you have that i voted sticker. He would see those people with the stickers all around but now, with covid and as things have changed and progressed, most people head to the polls or they drop their ballots off early. The majority of bay area voters have voted early. Take a look at the numbers. They are pretty expressive. They are setting records as well. Sonoma county voter turnout is at 65 . San mateo county, 64 . Alameda county at 57 . Then, San Francisco, napa, and santa clara counties are at more than 50 as well. Unprecedented proportions and of historical proportions. Right now, we have basically doubled the number of voters participating in the selection. In several different counties, ballots are already being processed. We wont know the results of that until actual election day. If you still need to drop off your ballot, you have time today and tomorrow. If you are going to put it in the mailbox, it needs to be postmarked by tomorrow which means it needs to go into the mailbox before it gets picked up that day. Otherwise, it will not be counted. Since the polling site opened on friday, a steady stream of people have been flowing into the stadium either to drop off islets or to head into voting booths. The l. A. One councilmember tells us while running against a white candidate earlier this year, her complexion was darkened in an ad by the agency. Officials are expected to speak at 11 00 this morning. A live look in San Francisco the city will begin moving more than 500 Homeless People out of hotel rooms. The Homelessness Department says the pandemic Housing Program is no longer financially feasible. The city has been leasing 2600 rooms and 260 a night. Officials say the plan is to connect all residents with some kind of housing or other program like one way bus tickets to anywhere in the country where they can live with friends or family. A lawsuit is being threatened to block the housing for the home at. The plan Conference Hotel rooms into housing for homeless during the pandemic. Milpitas city Council Voted unanimously to take illegal action against the project saying they were sidelined and not allowed to weighin on the location, the size, or even if the project was a good fit for the city. Toxic substance control agents will stop by Residential Properties with damage or destroyed structures from the glass fire. The battle between a San Jose Church and Santa Clara County Health Leaders is going before a judge. Parishioners packed the pews at Calvary Chapel in san jose sunday. Services are still being held despite the church facing more than 350,000 in fines. The church resumed Indoor Service two months into quarantine, hosting anywhere from 100 to 600 people without face coverings. The county issued a cease and desist and sued the church. The church is fighting back, hiring a team of attorneys. State prison officials are facing a deadline to relocate hundreds of san quentin inmates under orders from a state appeals court. That is after three quarters of prisoners got covid19 and 28 died. 12 days ago, the Court Ordered the state to release or relocate half of san quentins prison population, citing the eighth amendment, prohibiting cruel and unusual punishment. The outbreak began with infected prisoners transferred from southern california. Now there are concerns of the same thing happening wherever the prisoners end up. An attorney following the case says it is unlikely officials will release the transfer details until after the prisoners have been moved. What theyre going to say is for security clock classification reasons, we will not know where they are done. The state has until wednesday to either comply with a court order or appeal it to the state Supreme Court but it is not clear if the justices would agree to hear the case. With uc berkeley suffering a major financial blow due to the pandemic, a Research Institute is on the brink of closure. The institute for the study of societal issues is expected to close by the end of the academic year. It is the only Campus Institute currently slated to shut down. Cal is suffering from an estimated 240 million revenue loss due to the pandemic. The institute has been around since 1976, founded to study race and societal change. It has played an integral part in supporting black and indigenous students, providing fellowships, office spaces, and community. At least 167 Doctoral Students have come through its graduate fellows program. Hertz rental car company is rolling out a deal to help drive the boat. If you rent a vehicle today for two or more days, you will get one they completely free. Hertz wants to help get people out to the polls to vote and what better way with a free set of wheels . They are calling the program drive to vote. Some other free options as well to get people to the polls. Public transit is trying to help voters get to the polls. The marin county Public Transit district will be offering free fair today through tuesday, election day. A process will be in place to minimize the interaction between riders and drivers. All marin local transit routes as well as supplemental routes on the west marin stagecoach will be fair free. Demand Response Services such as catch a ride will be exempt from the free fair option. The latest polls show the former Vice President with a lead among the Record Number of americans who have already voted. The poll also shows President Donald Trump had the large preference lead among people who say they are voting on election day. That indicates he could see a tuesday search. The time now is 6 32. Wall street has already predicted a winner in the last three months. The s p 500 was down. 04 . When that happens, the incumbent president , or party holding the white house, usually loses. It has been the trend more than 80 of the time since the 1940s. A lot of people have already cast their ballot. Record numbers of voters have already voted in the selection here in the bay area. The numbers are coming in and they are pretty impressive. Sonoma county leading the pack with voter turnout there at 65 . San mateo county at 64 . In alameda county, 57. San francisco, napa, and santa clara counties are all at more than 50 . In the march primary, our whole voter turnout was around 116,000. We have already received more vote by mail ballots since last year. Recordsetting numbers, no matter where you are when it comes to voting. Remember, there are three different ways you can vote. You can mail your ballot. You can also drop your ballot off the ballot drop off location or you can physically come to the polls which is another option. If you are going to be doing the mailin ballot, it needs to be in the mailbox before pick up on election day. Otherwise, it will not get the november 3 postmark which is required for your vote to be counted. On december 5, that is the deadline for the state of california to announce the president ial election but i think all of us are hopeful that we will have an answer as to who wins the office before then. That is the way it has been and that is the way it should be. States do continue to count votes after election day. It has always taken a week in pennsylvania to count military votes. Several pennsylvania counties, officials wont start counting mailin ballots until wednesday. There have been more than 2. 4 million mailin ballots returned in pennsylvania. That could lead to a scenario where one candidate is ahead on Election Night but ends up losing the state when all the votes are counted a few days later. Hundreds of young people marched across San Francisco yesterday, urging others in their age group to hit the polls. It was part of a youth led protest called march for our future. They started along the embarcadero and ended at the Federal Building on golden gate avenue. Some are concerned after the election. Protests and rallies in the bay area could turn into civil unrest. s shops are boarding up windows and doors even though police say they do not have any specific intelligence that problems will develop. Business owners are worried about looting and vandalism. Much of the concern comes from the fact President Donald Trump has not fully agreed to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses and that could lead to a fight within the government. I think where we will see those fights are in the appointment process of the heads of these federal agencies and in the courts. The drop was very slight. That leaves us looking for a clue on how tomorrow will end up. We will keep following it for you. When it comes to deciding who will be president , the clock is ticking. If you have not cast a ballot yet, you need to. You have today and tomorrow. This polling location has been open for quite some time but they were sent to open their doors this morning at 8 00. They have been busy. Early voters are coming out in Record Numbers across the bay area. The numbers are pretty staggering. Sonoma county is leading the pack with voter turnout at 65 . San mateo county at 64 . Alameda county is at 57 . San francisco, napa, and santa clara counties are all at more than 50 when it comes to voter turnout. Folks have the ability to vote in person. They have the ability to put their ballot in the mailbox or to return their ballot physically to a drop box location. One really important factor is when you are deciding to mail your ballot, it must be postmarked by tomorrow which means that you have to put it in the mailbox before the post man or post woman comes to pick it up. Your best bet is to go ahead and put it in your mailbox today or if not, first thing tomorrow morning. Otherwise, better to come and drop it off here. Then, once everything is in and tallied, the state of california requires Election Officials to have everything good to go and announced officially at least by december 5. The usps must use its express mail network for long distances and get local ballots to their destinations by the next morning.
