Difficult theres a Navigation Center right behind me with the governor wants to do is to spend million get 100 million of that million to local governments because they know their needs intimately to make sure that the homeless are taken care of because when theyre taken care of he believes society as a whole will be much better because at any given time in california 108,000 people are homeless said he believes unless they are taken care of about 12,000 of them could be sent to the hospital either because are exposed to coronavirus or test positive for coronavirus and could overrun the hospital and all the workers which is why lets face it thats where we have in the shelter in place to flatten the curve and if you dont take care of the homeless according to the governor it can really spike in overwhelm are already overwhelmed systems and thats why he wants to get his hands on as many rooms from hotels and motels to send the homeless there because then theyll have social distance, heres the governor talking more about his plan. Youre looking at 60 plus 1000 individuals that may. Have covid 19 that creates a deep. Point of anxiety for the existing population but moreover for our Health Care Delivery system our capacity to move people in and out of the shelter safely without contacting other people in putting them at risk as well. The governor is moving very rapidly on this james and darya hes already secured about 400 rooms in hotels and motels in oakland, he also wants to get his hands on about 1300 emergency trailers from fema. He believes and we always talk about the elderly being the most vulnerable population, but he also believes that the homeless are especially vulnerable as well because lets face it when youre out in the elements for days weeks and months he believes are immune system is not as strong to deal with coronavirus back to you. All right, thank you very much will. The state of california by the way is stepping in to help people who are out of work because of the pandemic the States EmploymentDevelopment Department has created a special section on its web site. Employees whose work hours were cut short or theyre out of it job they can file for unemployment insurance, qualified applicants can get 40 to 450 a week and those who cant work because theyre either exposed to or of tested positive for coronavirus well they can file a disability claim, however, your condition has to be certified by medical doctor. These are wage replacement programs designed to replace a portion of the wages youre losing through no fault of the around and the amount that you could receive is based on what kind of earnings youve had over the last 8. 12 to 18 months. Caregivers of a sick or quarantine Family Member can file a paid family leave claim that provides up to 6 weeks of benefit payments. Speaking of benefits so were all going to see a little bit of relief with President Trump signing another Corona Relief package, the legislation is going to provide for sick leave which is very important for a lot of people. John lawrence has the latest from washington. A helping hand for americans dealing with the daily stress from the coronavirus pandemic. The economy is Strong Foundation of the job of the audi a theyre serving in the people impacted in the short term, so we need to make sure the actions taken quickly to make sure that were giving them the resources they need a relief package passed by the house was then approved by the senate. And signed into law by President Trump wednesday. I want to thank all americans for pulling together for coming together for they doing what they have to do its been incredible its been inspirational the legislation provides up to 2 weeks of paid leave for some workers. There is also a benefit limited to 200 per day for employees with relatives who are affected by the disease if theyre going to be some of these corporate. Im a bailout sweeney and make sure workers and labor come first that people are not laid off that people salaries are not cut although some Senate Republicans for previously critical of the houses legislation. They stress the need to get aid to the public temper factions will just make. Are more comprehensive package. Even more urgent the senate is now working on a phase 3 economic stimulus package related to the coronavirus outbreak. Im John Lawrence reporting. Well also have a new warning from the cdc this morning, its not just the elderly now that are being hospitalized with coronavirus. Young people are as well in fact the cdc says that people between the ages of 2044 now are making up to 20 of the hospitalizations and that is a directly aimed at all those young adults that are enjoying spring break in florida hitting the beaches congregating. They say that this is an epidemic thats impacting all age ranges, although. Those at highest risk of having complications from the recovery though still seem to be predominately the older population the report didnt say whether the parents the patients i should say had any underlying conditions or risk factors for these younger folks that are in the hospital, but again it seems like this virus is impacting all age groups. The navy by the way is also getting ready to launch to hospital ships to ease the capacity at hospitals on land. One ship is currently station in san diego, the other ones at the norfolk virginia. They would not treat coronavirus patients directly but what they would do is ease the load on hospitals by taking on other people that are suffering from physical ailments, broken arms legs, anything that can be treated at a standard hospital theyll go to the ship to do that and that will free up hospital beds in the hospital staff in the hospitals to treat those that have Infectious Diseases like around. Light at the end of the tunnel. Look to wuhan china and whats happening there remember that was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak and right now finally months after they completely shut down. They have reported no new cases for the First Time Since the outbreak last year. The latest numbers worldwide from Johns Hopkins university 218,000 cases of coronavirus around the world. 8,800 deaths and italy is still in the midst of it theyre entering now their 4th week of the worst National Crisis theyve seen since world war 2. You can see the effects of air lock down with a military in the street very few other people you have to have a reason to be out and about there. The number of coronavirus cases though continues to rise. At their the rate is about 3,000 new cases every day in italy and the death toll has topped 2500. Show they are taking the steps but again it takes a while as we saw in china for what were doing now to end up paying off and stop the spread worldwide. You can see 218,000. Now we look at the us and we could see 9400 and were going to focus is down to california where we see 870 cases further focusing down lets look at the bay area 400 confirmed cases at this point with 7 deaths so far the worst is and santa clara county, a 175 people tested positive and 6 people died and San Mateo County one death an 80 cases, San Franciscos had 51 contra costa, 41 alameda county. 31 confirmed cases in marine county that had 15 positive tests so far solano and Sonoma County say that there have been 8 cases in napa and lake counties are still reporting 0. But we are waiting for more widespread testing on the peninsula. Theres a big concern. For the elderly because 3 residents at burlingame senior care facility. Have tested positive for the virus and remember this is what caused such concern and and so of casualties in Washington State because it hit their nursing home there and there are on the people who are affected here at the burlingame theyre in quarantine at the hospital but then there are those who they can contact list so 3 other patients are also in quarantine now because they were exposed. Theyre still waiting for results to see if theyre positive or not. Well schools shut down by the coronavirus might not reopen until the fall but each district is reacting to that possibility in different ways some schools have plans to reopen after 3 weeks others say theyll likely stay closed right up until summer san joses east Side Union HighSchool District superintendent chris funk believes the Current School year. Probably over. But school year. If or she. Year so that are decisions hes school year well because of the closures School Districts have been forced really ramp up Online Learning to make sure that no student and also make sure no student goes hungry. The district says it will still work on what to do about graduations thats a big question for a lot of districts. 2 thirds of the us now seeing double digit price drops at the gas pump you may be noticed it. The push is that push the National Average now 2. 25 a gallon according to aaa the National Gas Price right now on average is 0. 13 cheaper this week. Then it was a week ago aaa expecting gas prices to continue to fall likely hitting a National Average of just 2. In fact the cheapest gas price that weve seen right now being reported out of london, kentucky, 0. 99 a gallon one station has dropped its price too and that was raising a lot of eyebrows there heres a look at barry price is nowhere near that level. But it is cheaper for us 3. 37 a gallon in San Francisco as last time we saw gas that cheap 3 22 in san jose and oakland. Its going for 3. 31 a gallon. The us Surgeon General has appealed to her to get the word out which were trying to do here because the young people are listening so if youre at home and youre not in school today dont go hang out with friends. You know go to i dont know what you can the future of weve been seeing that it is going to be pretty nice around here yeah im so this is as you can even see and yes we are looking at some nice conditions today its actually getting a little bit warmer. These next couple of days. And one thing i do want to stress to a lot of people are feeling really cooped up in their houses. You certainly can still go out on those walks we have all these parks here in the city and all across the bay area to enjoy just make sure youre doing your social distancing still, but hey enjoy the nice weather that we are about to be seeing and keep that safe distance get some fresh air take the dog out there with you too looking at some cloud cover overhead this morning weve seen some fog up in the north bay but from timber on right here cloud cover is staying above the base youre not running into any issues there temperatures right now are mostly in the 40s and 50s for the north bay you are hanging out in the 30s in a couple spots like san anselmo cloverdale say holding a and fairfield ca get the picture if you are on a walk this morning you do want to bundle up not a lot of sunshine breaking its way through the clouds just yet we are drier than yesterday novato visibility has improved after falling to a quarter mile earlier this morning still some spots in the north bay though where fog is resulting in visibility issues that low pressure area that brought us rain these past few days, its gradually exiting the region a week High Pressure is Building Back in now thats going help to keep us dry. The next couple of days also resulting in a subtle warm up before in other system makes its way into early next week so today less shower activity than what we have been seeing a few showers remain in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well as the blows mountains right above oakland and berkeley to snow for the 6th day in a row up in the sierra even though a lot less of it today than what we had been seeing the past few days. Now tomorrow, even less chance of rainfall than today are hilly areas of the east bay could continue to see some light showers here and there and then saturday, youre nice to stay with the clear skies. The driest conditions and the warmest of temperatures in the forecast as for today our first day this week seeing some 60s on the map Still Holding on to some 50s elsewhere, especially a little closer to the coast. But as you do step outside for a hopefully a few walks this afternoon you will enjoy some sunshine as well as temperatures just a few degrees warmer east bay daytime highs sharing that same range of 50s to 60s with again a few scattered sprinkles possible on some of our more mountainous areas like mount diablo or mount saint helene and the north bay while or lower elevation should remain dry and actually get quite a lot of sunshine too. Tomorrow and saturday warming on up even as compared to today and sunday still a warm day. But you do have a chance of rainfall returning those chances of rain fall turn into widespread rain come monday tuesday and wednesday of next week. Robin all right, thank you john we do have a big problem over in the east bay were checking out southbound 6 80 in san ramon just getting word of an overturned crash. This is southbound 6 80 at croke chang in the big rig was actually heading north went through the Center Divide crashed on the southbound side and we may have all lanes blocked right now traffic squeezing by on the shoulder, they have crews responding they have sweepers on the way this is turning into a big problem southbound 6 ad crow canyon overturned big rig blocking all lanes of traffic the rest of the commute to sponsor the walnut creek side, nice and light the dublin side looks good. But you have that backup building there in san ramon here in fremont there was a fatal accident thats under investigation. Car struck a pedestrian on Eastbound Mission at warm springs earlier this morning, so Eastbound Mission is all backed up and that back up spills over to the nimitz freeway. Theyre saying they hope to reopen the sometime between 1011 oclock this morning. But do not get off admission if you take the nimitz you want to get off an auto mall, instead and avoid that backup 92 looks good to the peninsula with no problems the bay bridge 80 west, nice and light into San Francisco back to you thanks a lot rob. Local hospitals is different for the foreseeable future they are preparing for an influx of patients infected with the coronavirus and that means theyre asking others, not to come if you dont need really need Emergency Services first of all you should call ahead. What have the very lates actually were way for the press conference that its about to president the briefing relief is on the wane. A has that other package so then there were waiting for the 3rd package which would include. Some checks maybe our 2000 to 10 shalee at latest i heard from Steven Mnuchin the treasury secretary was the president wants congress to pass a 1000 for every adult and 500 for every child thats actually going to get passed by congress, well have to wait and see but as the live look from the white house this morning as you begin to see some of the various members of the president s Coronavirus Task force beginning to assemble we see this pretty much every morning where they assemble and eventually the president comes out we know that they at least pass the other package yesterday and thats only gets the ball rolling on sick time which is really important not just if youre sick with coronavirus but if you have to care for somebody who signed an extended leave for that too and in that legislation it looks like people are going to get up to potentially 515 if they have to stay home sick with either quarantine but because of coronavirus or treatment so thatll be your paid sick leave how to get that but then you look for the next step which is one of 5 homes these people watching us right now youre probably home because not your because somebody has the coronavirus that you know that because your job has said you theres no doubt the show you have kids are out of school right things out of school so by some help for that and theyre theyre talking about how to really stimulate the economy and each one of these packages needs to address that because we just got. Were we already knew that that travel was suffering with the Airlines Bachelor the Hotel IndustryMarriott International is shuttering and furloughing 10s of thousands of workers at one of the stimulus packages are still on the horizon, the congress is debating that the president trying to influence is that trillion dollar aid relief package, and thats the packages for hopefully really going help small stay open, yeah and then of course thatll be the package where checks go to right now we see the president approaching the lectern. Lets take you there now live and listen in. I think theres going to be a very important conference. And ill get to that toward the middle and but i have a few things to report. Want to thank you all for being here and have to say i think with social distancing that the media has been much nicer i dont know what it is all these and feces. In between chairs we probably shouldnt have anybody sitting behind you in the english goalie go back, but i love it so much nicer i shouldnt say that because youll get me now. Thank you all for being here. And we continue our relentless effort to defeat. The chinese virus. Before i begin i want to start by announcing that. Today we are bringing home another american citizen is a big thing very big. Fay corey. Is on his way back to the United States after being imprisoned in lebanon since. September with 2019. Hes battling latestage cancer. Mister for corey. Well now be able to receive the much needed care and trip into the United States weve been working very hard to get him freed. That hes finally able to have his entire family at his side. So im very grateful to the lebanese government they worked with us and. We are very proud of his family they stood by him so strongly. And they are thrilled. The United States has no higher priority than the safety and wellbeing of our citizens weve. Weve gotten tremendous number of hostages out as you know i think were 40 to know. Robert obrien as you know was there for chief they go she ate a for a large part of it affected so well that now we have him in a. A different position. So want to thank and congratulate robert and his team and i want to. Let everyone know that recovering americans held captive and imprisoned abroad continues to be a top priority for my administration. One young gentleman austin tice. And were working very hard with syria to get a map we hope the syrian government. Well do that. Counting on them to do that. Written a letter just recently hes been there for a long time. This captured long ago. Austin tice is mothers probably watching and shes a great lady. And were doing the best we can so syria pleased to work with us. And we would appreciate. Letting a matter of you think about what weve done weve gotten. Rid of the isis caliphate the syrian weve done a lot to syria. We have to see if and theyre going to do this so it would be very much appreciated if they would left austin tice ouch. The immediately. As you know my administration is working every day to protect American People in. The American Economy from the virus yesterday has signed into law. A critical support for American Workers families and Small Businesses big thing. Were providing sick leave and family medical leave to those affected by the virus. And more help is on the way as we speak. Our entire team. Headed by secretary mnuchin is on the hill. Were working with. Democrats and republicans and theres a lot of goodwill going on. This was something that happened that too. Some people its an act of god, i dont view it as an act of god, i would view it as. Is this something that just surprised. The whole world. People would have known about it it could to stop been stopped in place. It could have been stepped right word came from china. If we would have known about it if they would have known about it. But now the whole world almost is inflicted with this horrible. This horrible virus and its too bad. Its too bad. Because we never had an economy as good as the economy we had just a few weeks ago, that will be back and i actually think well be back stronger than ever before because we learned a lot during this period of time. I also just invoked the defense production act to help facilitate distribution of essential supplies. If necessary we are working with congress to provide major additional relief to the workers Small Businesses. And the hardest hit industries. We want to make sure that everybody is able to continue on so that when we recovered all of these companies in these. Great businesses both very very small and very very large and not going to be broken up. And you have to put them back together that would take a long time. Because we really believe in i believe in the vicar of i believe its going to go. When this is a win this is defeated. This hidden scorch is defeated, i think were going to go up very rapidly. Our economy and get back to where it was and beyond today i want to share with you exciting the progress that the fda is making with the private sector as we slash red tape like nobody has ever done it before somebody was on. One of the networks and said that that theres never been a president even close its been able to do what ive done. And slashing all of the red tape and everything to get very important things to the market medical. So we slash red tape to develop vaccines and therapies is fast says. They can possibly be done. Long before anybody else was even thinking about doing this that is you know earlier this week we began the first Clinical Trial of a vaccine candidate. For the virus and that was launched in record time. It was just a few weeks. And that would have taken years to do. Thats so long ago. As we race to develop a vaccine were also pursuing anti viral therapies and thats what really was going to be talking to you about today thats the purpose of being up here today. And to me thats a even more important the vaccine by its nature you have to have long tests because you have to make sure what. Goes into somebody is body is not going to. Destruction too bad things so you need long tests. Doing great with the vaccines. But theres still a long process but the therapies or something we can. Well run much faster potentially. The treatments that will be able to reduce the severity or duration of the symptoms make People Better essentially what looking at. Thanks to make People Better. At the very earliest stages, it wouldnt even know they had it. And thats where i believe its going to work even the best. The fda commissioner steven on is with us. Hes fantastic. He is. Weve been working 24 hours a day hes been. These works like probably as hard or harder than anybody in this. And the group other than maybe mike pence. What the fda is doing is incredible. Theyve done things in times that were not even thinkable. And ive directed the fda to eliminate outdated rules and bureaucracy. So this work can proceed rapidly. Quickly and i mean we have to remove every barrier there are a lot of areas that were. Unnecessary. And theyve done that too. Get the Rapid Deployment of safe effective treatments. And we think we have some good answers to find out. Very very soon. Clinical trials are already underway for many new therapies and were working on scaling these 2. Allow. Many more americans to access different drugs that have shown really good promise that time and really good progress. We will do so in a way that lets has continued to collect the data. To know which medicines are safe. Which medicines are working the best we have a couple that were. In really good shape and thats where immediate delivery. The media. This passes we can get it. The fda is also approved compassionate use. For significant number of patients. You know what that means. Were also. Revealing drugs that are approved a broader drugs approved here for other uses. And you know one of the things that im most proud of that i got was right to try this where somebody whos ill. Somebody whos very sick, terminally ill usually. In past administrations, we scientists a year and a half ago. You wouldnt be able to. Even think about getting any of the drugs that may be showing great promise now and theyve been trying for many decades to get this approved and it sounds simple but its not because his liability involved in lots of other things. Then i was able to get it approved working with congress. Right to try this is beyond right to try what were talking about todays be andre to the right to try has been by the way tremendous success people are living now that had no chance of living. Where we take treatment said would of the things that that would have to go through years of a process and if somebody was terminally ill. And i would say why wouldnt they be able to try this to go to asia, they go to europe to go all over the world to try and find something where some people have had no money we go home to die they go home to die they had no hope. The right to dry has been an incredible success. But this is beyond right to try if treatment is known to be safe in europe, japan or other nations are effective against the virus. Well use that information to protect the health and safety of American People. Nothing will stand in our way as we pursue any avenue to find what best works against this wearable virus now. A drug called. Laura quinn. And some people would add to it, hyde roxy i dropped the clutch which. Cloris when or hide roxy couric went. Theres a common malaria drug. Its also a drug used for. Strong authorized somebody is a pretty serious arthritis. Well so. Hughes is this an ace somewhat different form. It is known as a malaria drug its been around for a long time that is very powerful. But the nice part is its been around for a long time. So we know that event if if things dont go as a planned its not going to. Kill anybody. When you go with a brand new drug you know know that thats going to happen you have to see and you have to go long test but this has been used in different forms very powerful drug in different forms. And its shown very encouraging. Very very encouraging early results. Were going to be able to make that drug available. Almost immediately. And thats where the fda has been so great theyve gone through the approval process its been approved. And they did it they took it down from many many months the median so well be able to make the drug available. By prescription or states i spoke with Governor Cuomo about at great length last night. He wants to be a writer and on the he was the first online. So i think thats a tremendous theres tremendous promise. The based on the results. And other tests this tremendous promise and surely the fda will take a long time to approve Something Like that and its a it was approved very very quickly and its now approved. By prescription. Individual states will handle it. They can handle it. The doctors will handle it. I think its going to be but i think its going to be great then were. Quickly studying that this a drug and while were continuing to study it. But the studying is going to be also done in as its given out to large groups of people perhaps in new york and other places. Well stay up there. There are promising therapies produced by. Gilley ad. And thats a. Were him to serve bore. Graham death civil war. And thats a drug used for the other purposes that spin out. And said very good. Results for other purposes, but it seems to have a very good result having to do with this virus. And that drug also has been. Approved a very close to improved in that case but the fda. And i can tell you how much we appreciate what the fda. These people are incredible. The patriots and the the job that. Stephen hahn is doing doctor hahn is one of the most respected doctors in the country by the way where we took him, i said you sure you want to do this. That we didnt know that this was going to be a. In the playlist what happened here but he really has stepped up to the plate for you our words. It will have a chick is and what a mess of us to do that. It can lead trouble of a tip. That hes been fantastic and i think the doctor is going to speak refco finish so. The region are on again the and a. This sum is a company thats done fantastically well as i understand with ebola. And some other things great company. Then theyre looking at some very promising event so so so you have room to serve far. And you have a. Laura quinn. And id row. Hydroxy clark win. Those are to that are out now. This actually approved for. Prescribe use. And i think its going to be very exciting. I think it could be. The game changer and maybe not. Then maybe not but i think it could be based on what i see a could be a game changer. Very powerful. Theyre very powerful. Show want every american to know that were doing everything we can. These actions are important next steps in for the fda to it act the way they acted with this kind of speed is an incredible thing normally to say well we could have it by next year we could have advised in 2 years from now you understand this is the way normally its light years and years and years. They had it immediately based on the fact that has been used for other things totally unrelated things. We believe these therapeutics and others under evaluation right now will be able to provide relief to Many Americans. We really hope thats going to be this could be a a tremendous breakthrough, tremendous breakthrough. And we will work toward a much needed vaccine in the futures, i said and. What were doing with the fda is so exciting and so many other fields. As so many things are happening. Its a very exciting time for. For medicine. We appreciate that the American Public is pulled together theyre really staying home. I this tremendous spirit in this country right now is spirit like a lot of people have not seen. People have not seen anything like it. For a long time and that means democrat republican. Pulling together i hope everythings going. Good in the hill, maybe i shouldnt say this until a check out whats going on because you never know, but but i think theres a great spirit where. The democrats 2 republicans and everybody getting together and trying to get things done. But most importantly the American Public has been incredible we took the best economy weve ever had. And we said stop you cant work. If the stay home. You know, theres never been a case like this normally you pay a lot of money to get things going. Heres a case where paying a lot of money to stop things because we dont want people to. The together. So that this virus doesnt continue onward. So theres never been anything like this in history. Theres never been nobodys ever seen anything like this that were doing the right thing we have to get rid of your big war. Is not a set of financial war civil war to medical war. We have to win this war is very important with that id like to just injured is doctor stephen hahn. And again id like to. The send back with stephen our thanks to all of the people working in the fda who are fantastic talented people we appreciate it very much everything youve done, especially the speed that youve got these. That too elements these 2 very important drugs pass, thank you very much. Thank you. Mister president. I want to thank you for your leadership during this coronavirus outbreak herman thank you for the kind words about the fda staff. We have 10,000 scientists doctors and others and more than that working around the clock. Cade the American People in this fight against the coronavirus and those words are very much appreciate sir thank you. Before the president nominated me and i was confirmed as commissioner from judge who was a cancer doctor. And i sat across from countless number of patients. Im and had to talk to them about their diagnosis and the treatment. And one thing that was really important is to provide hope. I have great hope. For how were going to come out of this situation. Whats also important is not to provide but to provide hope. And as a doctor thats the way i come to this. Theyre speaking out to the American People as commissioner food and drugs that part of me has not left. Just look at the way the American People have responded to our calls for mitigation for social distancing. The American People have create resiliency im so incredibly proud of how the American People have responded. The president mentioned he asked us to be aggressive to break down barriers to Innovation Fund to accelerate the development of lifesaving treatments. And were doing that at the fda. The fda is committed to continuing to provide regulatory flexibility and guidance. But let me make one thing clear 50s responsibility to the American People. These to ensure that products are safe and effective. And here we are continuing to do that. Our folks and their tremendous professionals are working day and night to do this. He just came in and cant even imagine how much theyre working to provide the support for the American People and i thank them. Since early january long before the first domestic case, fda began working in cooperation. The cdc. They also want to note that we stood up an Incident Command Group and have been focused on the coronavirus since the very beginning of this Public Health emergency. This is in addition all of government in all america pro channel describe what i mean by that the terms of the development of therapeutics. An important part of that work is expanding the potential Therapeutic Options associated with colonel liars and weve learned from our colleagues across the globe without this. I want to focus on one thing i was a cancer researcher before all this and im one thing i know im not this great country of ours is that we have on believable innovators. We have people who every day its their job to develop treatments for all sorts of diseases. We are incredibly blessed as a country to have this. And as is true in any of us these Great American innovators academia, private sector today, having cage just about the best possible Treatment Options, were looking at everything thats coming across our desks as possible Treatment Options for coronavirus. And were extremely encouraged by the interest in the promise that weve seen from these Great American innovators. Now again we need to look at it we need the data we need the information to make the absolute best decisions for American People but i want to assure you we have over 17,000 people at fda drug doing this every day. We need we need to make sure that the said the sea of new treatments will get the right drug. To the right patient at the right dosage at the right time. As an example we may have the right drug that may not be in the appropriate dosage form right now, and that may do more harm than good. Those are the things that thats our job to look at and thats why its really important. We had these dedicated professionals looking at these aspects of therapeutic development. At the same time. Were also working through different mechanisms to actually drink get drugs into the hands of providers and patients. The president mentioned this but one of the mechanisms called compassionate use. We just tell you about this if theres an experimental drug that potentially available. A doctor could ask that have to be used in a patient we have criteria for that and very speedy approval for that the important thing in a compassionate use and thats what the president meant. This is even be on right to try is that we get to collect the information about that because one of the things for their promise American People as we will collect the data and then make the absolute right decisions based upon this data about the safety and efficacy of the treatments. We are working expeditiously and were working to make sure that these products are safe and effective as they possibly can be can be. Let me tell you about a few things that were currently working on. And this is plan that was developed with many of the people at this table are infectious experts on the task force in the short term were looking at drugs that are already approved for other indications. So theyre already proved as the president said for other diseases. As an example Many Americans have read studies and heard media reports about this drug chloroquine which is an antimalarial drug. Its already approved as the president said for the treatment of malaria as well as an earth race condition. Thats a drug that the president has directed us to take a closer look at as to whether an expanded use approach to that could be done to actually see if that benefits patients in again. We want to do that in the setting of a Clinical Trial, a large pragmatic Clinical Trial to actually gather that information and answer the question that needs to be answered and asked and answered. Well give you another this across agency about something called convalescent plasma. This is a pretty exciting year and again this is something that we have on giving assistance to other countries with as this crisis has developed so fda has been working for some time on this. If youve been exposed to coronavirus. And youre better. We dont have the virus from your blood we could collect the blood now this is a possible treatment this is not a proven treatment just want to emphasize that collect the blood concentrate that. Has the ability once its a country that is virus free be able to give that to other patients in the communal violence. Response could potentially provide a benefit to patients. Another thing that were looking at over the next couple weeks. Well have more information that were really pushing hard to try to accelerate that. Thats in this order more meetings short term and that will be abridged other therapies that will take us 3 to 6 months to develop. This is a continuous process there is no beginning and in teaching this. This is known for pushing this through. The other great thing about the great and then raise americas some of them tell us its taken us years years to develop therapies. Theyre looking at pushing back to the most period of time and were trying to provide indirect regulatory flexibility but same time the scientific oversight to make sure that gets done in the best way possible for the American People. The president mention that there is a vaccine trial. Im currently being performed to phase one trials which the early study that gets done we expect that to take 12 months to get to felicia actually a time we could approve the vaccine. But that these are all things to bridge to the prevention part of this with a vaccine. Its exciting work and the president is right. This is record time for the development. Of the vaccine and impressive Public Private partnership. The fdas efforts to facilitate the development of these products are focused on ensuring timely access will also meeting the agencys world respected gold standard. For lines on strong data from Clinical Trials to determine if an experimental or an off the shelf drug that used for Something Else can safely and effectively treat patients. We want to assure the American People that fda is all hands on deck. As the president mention these efforts continue to work with interested sponsor to help expedite the work. We remain steadfast in helping to foster the development a safe and effective therapies for cover 19. Thank you. Mister president the white house Coronavirus Task force of mitt this morning. And on this very first day of spring. We continue to make steady progress. The toward President Trumps objective not only to marshal the resources of the federal government every state government. Every every local health but also to harness the power. The American Private sector and activities over the reflect all of those priorities. Yesterday the president spoke with americas top physicians and nurses and garnered helpful insights about how we can best serve those who are serving. Americans that are dealing with the coronavirus we also had a productive call with over 5,000 state. And local explaining of the federal governments approach and are strong and Seamless Partnership with all 50 states and the territories. Last night as you heard the president s side, the family first Coronavirus Response act which provides free coronavirus testing paid sick leave. Family leave for caregivers and Food Assistance for the needy among a real broad range of benefits and today as the president indicated. We expect that the senate will begin work on an economic relief. Package later today. The president and i will love meet again in a teleconference with the nations governors. We will meet at the National ResponseCoordination Center at fema. An ally in President Trumps decision to have fema take the lead in our national Coronavirus Response. Our nations response through fema will be locally executed state managed and federally supported. On testing. Of the American People to know once again the testing is available in all 50 states is becoming increasingly available literally every hour of the day because of the Public Private partnership that the president initiated several weeks ago with major commercial labs. Im pleased to receive a report today that 10s of thousands of tests are being performed every day and with the passage of last nights legislations the state and private labs are now required by law to report all coronavirus testing directly to the cdc, which will give the American Public and also give our researchers timely and important information
