We saw the massive growth of the creek fire and now here in the bay area were looking at heightened fire danger ourselves. As we work our way through this tuesday now last night we had a welcome sea breeze pushed back through our coastal areas this really resulted in a nice overnight cool down. For areas like San Francisco which is actually shrouded in some low lying cloud cover this morning has fallen to the 50s unlike you had yesterday with temperatures were in the upper 70s for San Francisco. Berkeley started yesterday morning in the 80s now youre only at 62, so we do have some relief this morning. For those of you that opened up your windows let that cool breeze in has provided a nice relief from yesterdays hot day time highs. Now robin was just talking about the creek fire up in Fresno County madera and mariposa counties as well. We do have the potential for rapidly spreading wildfire today as winds really pick up out of the north. High fire danger and red flag warnings from today on into wednesday and areas lit up in red on this map which is a lot of our high elevation areas which as we know can be prone to those wildfires. This includes portions of the north bay like so hot though or ran sonoma counties which as you can see there highlighted pretty are some of our areas that will be looking the heightened fire danger Sonoma Calistoga some of her breezier spots this morning really going to be keeping a close eye on these north bay counties as this is where were going to see some of the strongest of winds working its way in from the northeast. Petaluma santa rosa towards that middle of the day today right around noon look at how wind speeds really pick up in these areas and its not just the strong winds, but you pair with very low humidity yacht bill down at 15 right now. And we are going to be seeing very high fire potential. I mean all these areas dry tender low humidity, hot temperatures and then those strong winds, not a good combination so please be mindful of any sort of activities that you may be doing as you venture outside 80s 90s triple digits for todays daytime highs conquered at one 04 antioch livermore vallejo Still Holding on to triple digits. But a whole lot less of them yet than yesterday. Santa rosa falls out of the hundreds back to 95 today, oakland at 94, San Francisco at 88. As far as air quality goes talking some improvements there as well most of us are in the moderate category this morning, inland valleys of the east bay anywhere from ports, a very poor as well as persons of the north bay, so definitely not all of us sitting good this morning. Im talking more about her height and fire danger today. What else to expect for the rest of the week all still to come in your forecast robin. All right sounds good. Thank you lets check in on the traffic were taking a peek at your morning commute starting off the bay bridge toll plaza. Heres a live look at your a t team you westbound coming into San Francisco and so far so good, no problems, no crashes no stalls. An easy trip here under 10 minutes to make it off to the fremont street exit, lets head over to 92 are checking in on the drive across the san mateo bridge busy as usual remember its always our first bridge to start getting a little crowded in the 4 oclock hours so no problems here, but plenty of brake lights rolling out of hayward over to the peninsula and we have one more one on one across the golden gate looking good. I dont even see any roadwork northbound heading out of San Francisco traffic still smoothing out the limit for both sides which means its a great time to go ahead and use it, well check more bridges coming up a little bit later. Well, thousands of people in the north bay will be without power as pg and e takes action ahead of high fire danger. The utility started shutting off power in parts of 22 counties just before 11 oclock last night. They include these 3 bay area counties check in on your screen sonoma and lake counties pg e estimates that a little more than 5,000 customers in napa county will be affected. In Sonoma County pg e says that if they go forward with shut offs in santa rosa. An estimated 15,000 customers will be without power and a small part of lake county 24 customers are affected. Restoration is expected around 07 00pm wednesday night. So heres a look at the current pga, the Public Safety power shutoff striking out of your screen power has been shut off. And areas in the north bay right now you can see those marked with a little purple icon. Well in the north bay people in napa county already how to deal with the high temperatures of course the bad air quality now theres a concern a potential power shutoffs calistoga still at risk of losing electricity along with thousands of others in napa county but the city has a backup as one of the first cities to experience a Public Safety power shutoff pg e recently installed this plan interconnection hub and thats to help get 2 thirds of the city back up and running just in case of a shut off. She Stores Pharmacies etc police fire. Everything that we need to take care of everyone else in those folks who do live in the un powered area or an energized area. Well we will have some cooling centers for them to move over to. Well if the interconnection help works as planned it should be able to bring back power within just a few hours pg e has also set up Community Resource centers for those impacted. Well theres also a red flag warning in effect for the north bay mountains and the east bay hills check it out this warning goes into effect for the santa cruz mountains. This morning at 10 the red flag warning will remain in effect until wednesday morning so were going to be dealing with this another day. One out of 3 major fires that are burning in the bay area fire crews are making significant progress so far those the lnu lightning complex fire in the north bay, its currently 91 contained. More than 375,000 acres have burned there so far and then we have the scu complex thats burning in the east and south bay, its up to 94 containment with nearly 397,000 acres burned there and then the czu lightning complex fires and send the tail and santa cruz counties are now up to 80 containment with more than 86,000 acres burned and of course the what were fired Point Reyes National seashore dinner in county is now 95 contained that fire has burned more than 48,000 acres to the 4800 acres. Well new evacuation orders are in effect for several neighborhoods in Sonoma County because of the walbridge fire. Now it is part of the l in new complex fire. The mandatory evacuations for homes, south of mill creek road. North of sweet water springs road west of west side road and east of palmer creek road. Drew thousands of people to the State Capitol for labor day video from the event shows hardly anyone wearing a mask or social distancing. And now were learning a state lawmaker actually helped organize the whole thing Capitol Bureau reporter Ashley Zavala explains. Well happening today, students and 14 schools in marin county will be one of the first to return to school for in person classes. However, Bayside Martin luther king Junior Academy will not resume classes today after a staff member tested positive for Coronavirus School resumes next monday which is the 14th. But to the south bay now for still elementary and for other schools in the Campbell Union school district. Well begin with they call modified in person classes so the idea is to provide some extra help. For students who are struggling with distance learning. Heart pounding effort said nearly newly released body cam footage shows a Vacaville Police officer evacuated families as the lnu lightning complex fires just raced towards them well have more on that coming up in a bit. The screeching tires and then gunfire a deadly shooting in the area of an illegal sideshow in San Francisco will hear from witnesses coming up. And unhealthy air condition, dusens a heat wave and the pandemic led to a very different Labor Day Weekend for many people how traditional activities took on a different look welcome back everyone traditional labor day activities had a very different look about them this year, not only fall during a pandemic and a heat wave. Unhealthy air conditions calls by drifting smoke, the course played a huge factor into how people spent their holiday. Lonnie wong reports. The last holiday of the summer had an ominous look about it. The air quality danced in and out of unhealthy range and in the middle of the triple digit heat wave. And the pandemic to blue. The good beat her the step one dance and Fitness Studio holding several free classes to celebrate its new home is location. Classes like these are only allowed outdoors thats got to say the word second oh my gosh i can hardly sleep at all was worried about the temperature. That we didnt want to cancel last minute. From the turnout. It was the right decision it was exhausting for some of those who took part they never been called not only caught a session she participated in to others, it was worth the felt really good to get your the people in just motivating each other. Its looking to well tackle mental invited visitors to the tourist location normally draws big crowds on Labor Day Weekend. Although there wasnt a special event visitors can eat shop and browse some surprises a lot of people, im surprised not at home, but i mean people are coming out perhaps they had a change of heart likely on this weekend i stay home. I mean i didnt feel like going nowhere nothing not just a home in 2 days, the holidays, had to go do something so i came from arizona when were trying to stay hydrated for sure artist later right came down from Washington State where was 30 degrees cooler to participate in the annual chalk it up event they want their own shade and cool liquids, a small sacrifice for the sake of art that has a lot to talk about so its like people motivating to finish all of it. It was perhaps the combination of heat smoke and covid the cap. The beach crowd at this cornea park modest this was the typical weekend cloud earlier in the year. Well water craft for plentiful at the spot with the american and sacramento rivers meet groups on shore seem content to social distance and that William Land Park it was unusually quiet. The zoo is open to a limited number of visitors and Fairy Tale Town is now closed monday through wednesday. On a normal summer weekend you could barely find a parking spot in this area let alone an mp picnic table. This is in stark contrast to what was going on in this area last year. In sacramento. Lonnie wong. Yeah its been pretty hot hot hot all around the bay area its not very comfortable, i hear were going to cool it down just a little bit but its still going to be hot, lets check in with john to get an update on the Committee Said it better myself im trying to avoid say who will down today because yeah so high people expect drastically cooler with dry cool down. But were not talking about a drastic or avoiding cooldown think thats what focus and today, yeah, yeah we still got a future pull digits out there. But instead of being 25 to 30 degrees above average like 15 to 20 degrees above average who are working our way in the right direction for sure looking outside of berkeley this morning. We do have some haze there is some low cloud cover hanging out near the coastline as we did have a nice push a marine air last night. This is actually offered us some relief from those overnight temperatures that just were so warm yesterday morning. Now youre waking up and saying oh yeah that actually feels like it should be the evening right now youre looking outside also at some improved air quality moderate conditions for most of the bay, dont necessarily expect this map to remain this way through the day but at the moment unless youre in our inland valleys, you have seen some improvements overnight near quality big picture set up is bringing us some strong winds in some higher fire danger to our east first of all we have this low pressure system thats resulting in some snow in the rockies. All this is doing is for us is stirring up some winds out of the north and east that will be pushing through the bay area and this is not an ideal situation weve already got the hot weather around weve got the dry conditions now you add in wind on top of that and we do have a recipe for higher fire danger will specially be keeping a close eye on the north bay with vacaville sonoma in calistoga already quite breezy look at how these winds expand across the north bay and into the inland east bay into the afternoon with such low humidity, strong winds and hot temperatures like we will be seeing fire danger will be very high for our east bay hillsides where we will be looking at temperatures still in the triple digits paired with those strong winds gusting as high as 40 Miles Per Hour. All of Solano County under red flag warning today 25 to 45 Miles Per Hour dry winds out towards the coast to in marin county northern portions of snowman napa counties. Winds gusting as high as 45 Miles Per Hour today. So thats where that higher fire danger comes into play today as even compared to the past few days which were maybe on the calmer side, but certainly just as hot as today is about to be 70s and 80s for San Franciscos highs today, you see even at the coast. Were still going to be warm. We are looking at another one that is going to be hot all across the bay area burlingame at 92 saying carlos at 95 woodside falls out of the triple digits to 97 still hot just not as hot. Campbell at 96 today while san jose also falls out of the triple digits to 95 today. Pleasanton livermore youre holding on to the century mark double and falling down to 99. Danville at one 03 will walnut creek and concord still at one 04 each oakland at 94 today, north bay temperatures still widespread triple digits pair that with that wind and thats where your high fire danger comes in santa rosa through center fell may fall out of the triple digits today but still in the mid to upper 90s. Now, heres the good news in this forecast after todays heightened fire danger hot breezy conditions comes the real cooling trend starting tomorrow really kicking into gear come thursday and friday when daytime highs will only be in the upper 80s for inland areas and stay relatively cool all the way into next week. Rob thank you john checking in on the morning commute now not too much going on which is great of the trip into San Francisco is off to a very quiet start we are hot spot free. And i dont see any big problems here leaving the oakland maze or once you make it into downtown San Francisco. So far so good under 15 minutes for your average drive in across the upper deck in over to the fremont street exit, lets head over to the east bay were checking that commute out of hayward over to the peninsula and yes, its busy as it normally is at 04 20am in the morning. So we have a crowd, but everybody is behaving so far thats what we like to see under 30 minutes to make it from the nimitz across 92 and connecting with one oh one in san mateo well check out more bridges coming up a little bit later.
