Is actually familiar across a lot of the bay area tonight as many pg and e customers are bracing now for a 3rd day without power. Thank you for joining us at 10, im pam moore and im ken wayne pg needed start restoring power to some neighborhoods tonight, well bring you the latest on the shut offs in a moment, but first. Lets check in with our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow on the when and the heat or yet were not done with the win check in effect. Today we had some very impressive gusts around the bay area 65 mile an hour gust reported. Mount st. Louis that was early on in the morning, 57 mile an hour gust amount the album in the Santa Cruz Mountains 53 Miles Per Hour 52 healdsburg Oakland Hills almost 40 mile an hour gusts. Thats where were seen over the mountain tops especially not as windy down below, but certainly concerning as youve got very dry conditions youve got the hot temperatures record heat in place today and you got those strong offshore Winds Continuing to blow in fact theyre just beginning to pick up again tonight weve got one more round maybe 2 of some gusty wind developing tonight maybe toward the middle of the day tomorrow before this all comes to an end so red flag warnings have been posted around the bay area until 11 oclock in the morning they may get extended just slightly as were seeing some gusty winds developing in spots out there, 3040 mile an hour winds maybe some gusts again tonight over 50 Miles Per Hour, especially across some of the mountains humanity in some spots in the north bay could see though drop all the way down in the Single Digits so very dry out there right now down below though look at many of the valleys in this calm out there right now to San Francisco. Calm and oakland up calm little calm in concord but were starting to see those winds begin to pick up again in the north bay and some of those winds especially over the mountain tops starting to blow now 25 mile an hour winds of the northeast at soda springs, 22 and atlas peak, 22, at spanish class 20 at saint helene at 22 po valley, so youre starting to see those winds picking up now the likely amplify as we go through the night tonight in fact here we go again maybe not quite as strong as last night but Strong Enough certainly of with a fire were to get started were looking at more of a gusty winds may be over 40 miles an hour over the mountain tops maybe the occasional 50 mile an hour gust tonight and then you start to see some of that spreading over the east bay hills in the parts of the south bay as well the Santa Cruz Mountains, San Mateo County gusty wind through tomorrow morning, another secondary cussed comes toward the middle of the day and then looks like after that things begin to switch gears High Pressure starts to break down. And all of a sudden by the afternoon looks like those winds will start to calm down maybe a little bit of a sea breeze developing into San Francisco as were going to see a return of some cooler air from the ocean that is going to mean a big change on the way but over the next 12 to about 18 hours or so fire danger still going to be running high in the area. All right. Thank you lawrence restoration is did start today and as we mentioned. The number of homes that have been affected by Power Outages in Northern California is about 30,000 right now around the bay area alameda napa san mateo santa clara. Santa cruz and sonoma counties all have more than a 1000 customers in the dark, heres a map showing the purple areas these are the says the Public Service power shut offs by pg e all the way up in Shasta County around reading all orville and paradise where there have been fires but primarily looking at the bay area weve got sonoma and napa counties all of these purple areas here on the Sonoma Mountain area the sonoma valley. All around the town of sonoma heading all the way up north of santa rosa, the yellow and the green areas are actually Power Outages that were not intentionally but out by a pg e and then as you go to the east you can see again east of napa heres napa all of these areas in the hills above the napa valley, the power intentionally turned off by pg we head down to the peninsula. The same story going from San Mateo County all around Half Moon Bay and the hills there down into the Santa Cruz Mountains just north of santa cruz, so that is the situation. They did turn off the power when the wind did not come they had warned us they turned it off and then we never had any wind and that was that was rather irritating. But this time. They they would literally they waited until whether or not the wind came and when the wind didnt come they left the power on in Boulder Creek rob fladeboe kron 4 news. We have some good news to report tonight maki the lemur who had a lot of people worried about him and went missing from the San Francisco zoo yesterday has been found yes as serve Daly City Police tweeted this somebody reported seeing him in the playground near Hope Lutheran church. A flash officers were able to capture maki until the zoo workers picked him up and took him back home we talked with the founder of lemur love earlier today who explained why it was so important to get maki back in the care of professional us. Something like this is just going to be so stressful i imagine in that he probably would have terrible diarrhea thich means its going to really dehydrated and so you know time is of the essence of getting back getting treated. And now maki can get the treatment he needs mckee is one of 19 lemurs of the San Francisco zoo and at 21 years old he is the oldest San Francisco police say it looks like somebody force their way into the lemur its closure enclosures so. Police are investigating this incident as a burglary. Were face to face tonight as was originally scheduled, but President Trump and former Vice President joe biden squared off in competing town halls from 2 battleground state thats right. The president was in florida while biden answer questions in pennsylvania, the candidates were grilled on the coronavirus the Supreme Court health care and the economy Jennifer Mcgraw reports. The president and former vp going head to head on different stages, competing for viewers during prime time, joe biden sitting down with Abcs George Stephanopoulos and answering questions about how he would have handled the pandemic in started with criticizing trump is a president ial responsibility to lead. And he didnt do that he didnt talk about what needed to be done because he kept worrying in my view. About the stock market at the same time trump saying he was ahead of the game by enacting the first travel ban nobody was 2 months behind me and he told me is that a fall victim racist and Everything Else trumps town hall on nbc was dominated by testy exchanges with today show anchor Savannah Guthrie after she pushed him on a variety of issues, including condemning conspiracy theorists known as he went senator ben sasse said quote she would not is real leaders called conspiracy theories conspiracy maybe right i just dont know about you and you to know i dont know dont go back to biden he was asked if safe would he take a vaccine for covid yes, i would take a night encourage people to take it then asked if he would mandated he said yes, but it would be hard to enforce adding this slide. Whats happening is there is no plan to figure out how. To distributed lastly if biden wins. Take care of those who voted against as well as those who voted for me for and some presents to weve got to heal this nation and from the side voters trump saying with his leadership in 4 years. Weve had the strongest economy. A vaccine is on the way and this next year is going to be better than ever before. And that was Jennifer Mcgraw reporting and for reaction to those competing town halls we welcome back down to crane professor of Political Science at San Jose State University professor thanks for being back with us were any minds change tonight. I dont think many minds were changed tonight. I think there 2 very stark differences, different styles of governance on display tonight. I think if youre a trump fan if you like what youve seen from him for the last 4 you know the sort of showmanship the confidence maybe even over combativeness no flirtation with conspiracy theories and the promise that better times are ahead, he would have liked what you saw tonight. But if you like them wars sort of solid approach to experience and the stability. If thats your for your preference and you would have liked what you saw job i think professor a lot has been made in the last few about 2 and on white supremacy. The Supreme Court. Hearings of course dominating the news cycle. But it seems like for both candidates, everything kind of circles back to covid is that what it really is a big issue this campaign. Its absolutely the Biggest Issue thats entirely right. You know President Trump really on his on his back foot here hes he stopped having to defend. His administrations response to covid and that is that is a challenge just uphill some polk line where is joe biden is looking to create a difference in voters minds showing them an entirely different approach to the pandemic and that remains the central issue to voters. So thats the central issue. It certainly is the issue that the democrats are trying to push the is in court now before the Supreme Court trying to get rid of obamacare and you know there was a question asking him what is his plan. He didnt really articulate though what his plan is how do you think he handled that particular question does it matter to his supporters. Its a nice way of saying that he did not take your way to plan in fact he didnt answer the question and perhaps going even further he he misstated his position he kept trying to say that you had to repeal in order to replace, but they he simply doesnt have a plan and this claim that he will always preexisting conditions is just simply actually not correct. So of course of an industry tried to call him on that was one of the test year exchanges its its a very very important issue to voters this shows up repeatedly in polls so while these town halls took place tonight and were hopefully one more. Debate between these 2 candidates people are voting. Millions of people have already voted. How is this Campaign Going to change or will it change and will change anybodys minds as people every day now cast their ballots. Thats right this race is actually been remarkably stable for is explosive it has it has felt the electorate itself is quite stable theres a theres a solid group in the trump camp in a solid group and the never trump camp and there just arent that many undecided voters and youre absolutely right people started voting to almost 3 weeks ago now some millions of ballots have been cast. The Trump Campaign is. Really out of time to shake things up even though even running short of money so were really down to the wire here. Progressives of course have said that they will support joe biden nonetheless they continue to push him on a number of issues like the Green New Deal which is a big concern for moderates who biden wants to attract how do you feel he handled some of those progressive issues tonight in his town hall. Hes really had to walk a little bit of a tightrope on a couple of issues out one of them. The question of rebalancing the court is another one so i think what hes trying to do is just keep the rate he theresa stable as possible. His main job is to reassure voters that he is a he is a more stable and more capable alternative to trump sort of sadness and so if hes able to you know stretch between moderate and progressive for just about 3 more weeks well, my sense is thats what the Biden Campaign is looking to do. You know we always hear about an october surprise. It seems like weve had half a dozen already and that really hasnt affected this campaign, i mean it probably can you see anything that would change the course of either candidates support. Coming out there would do anything. Police dont beg for trouble, honestly a month ago if if we could have predicted any of this know i its its its absolutely remarkable in my experience i have never seen such a succession of events each of which would have completely up and did a president ial campaign in past cycles so i hesitate to even guess what could be around the corner, its been scary remarkably stable electorate despite everything happening around us debate is still tentatively on the table for next this what would have been the 3rd debate it will turn out to be the second one it is held. One needs to happen there for both sites. It will be extremely interesting to see whether trump decides to come back to the debate stage of course do the reason we got these dueling town halls tonight is because President Trump. Actually declined to participate in this event once they change the format. So i think that will be something to look to in the next couple of days is what his decides to do about the coming debate. I think trump has one last shot in this last debate to really shake things up im im not sure he has it in him to be different because he is just very much who he is he has once be either like it or you dont like but hes got to win back in particular older voters and suburban women and so far they have not been interested in what hes had to just in person, but nonstop ads on television and on social media. Its true if we think were exhausted you mostly exhausted here in california imagine being a voter in pennsylvania florida right now i really feel for them, but you know the the fate of this election largely rests with them. Professor thank you so much for being with us again to try and break down whats happening. What happened tonight as well as whats ahead thank you. Kron 4 Sports Reporter colin mill shows us how he went from walk on to the team leader. From a High School Junior who never played Club Basketball to starting division, one point guard you could say tommy koozies basketball rise has been fast and furious, ive always loved the game since i was a kid. Without many College Offers cousy accepted a walkon spot on the Saint Marys College mens basketball team. I just fell in love with the place i mean that the guys the way they treat each other was just you could tell there was a special culture here. And i really want to be a part of it because he says when he arrived on campus the gaels program lived up to his expectations and more the older guys in the program are great, i mean you never felt any selfishness from them they were completely invested in the team and youre like thats just how it is i mean. Everyones all in together pushing in the same direction and the only direction cousy was heading was up. After hardly seeing the court his first 2 years koozies number was called during his redshirt sophomore season. I mean coach luckily had enough faith in me to throw in the starting lineup just to just to get a change and get some new blood in there. I just started create a spark in worked out the gaels went on to upset gonzaga in the west coast conference championship before falling the opening round of the nc double a tournament. His redshirt junior season which was cut short due the pandemic cousy played more minutes than any other d one basketball walk on in the country. Definitely something i hadnt thought about but its its pretty special honor i think to to have that title something cousy had thought about was receiving a scholarship for his athletic efforts. This summer that thought became reality. Definitely the transition when the school year ended and then all of a sudden. Were talking about ok now youre on scholarship. California wildlife experts have come together to help the bears and Mountain Lions and all the other animals caused by the states devastating wildfire in tonights flying tails, we show you how the new group they formed called the Wildlife Disaster Network in the unusual treatment theyre doing to protect and save injured wildlife. Wildfires dont discriminate people property and animals are victim, the California Department of fish and so a lot of these animals are coming in shea says byrne fiends they were in here in their eyes and charles seat of the firearms. They often have smoke inhalation. Paul burns are especially damaging the loss of skin exposes nerve endings making it so painful. The animals cant walk in and thats the challenge of the cant walk they cant find water and they find prey. And eat and so then they start to decline. Such was the case with this 370 pound black bear was found in few counties north complex fire. He had a minor eye injury and smoke inhalation but the biggest concern was his burned paws. Veterinarians now have a relatively new treatment. We can have our animals such as are bears ko from crawling on the ground because its so painful to lock to literally standing up and able to lock is being and shes thats one of the most rewarding things. The bandages shes referring to are made from fish skin and sue church right on to the injured paw. Its all such an improvement and with using them that will have you some sense on several other animals they found about 13 different speeds these hour. And its an around the difference for controlling their keen and hitting and killing better and faster as well as you know if they get the bandages off its not a big deal at the eat them. The idea came from doctors in brazil have been using tilapia skin to treat human births. California veterinarian started using fish skin after major wildfires here 3 years ago. Now its common practice. This female Mountain Lion was found burned in los angeles county. And brought to the fish and wildlife facility near sacramento. I think of the Mountain Lion has lost some weight so its clear that she stock and suffering from those burns for a little while longer than the bear. She weighed 68 pounds and couldnt walk. And then we put the prepared tilapia skin on and that provides college and to the surface of the burn. But it also provides protective outside surface. So that rock pop ad is he on the ground that its now the fish skin thats on the grounds. So far this year californias Wildlife Disaster Network has treated for bears and for Mountain Lions plus foxes coyotes. Bobcats and other animals. These Mountain Lion cubs are recuperating at the oakland zoo after they were found burned, but not every wildlife encounter ends in success. Sometimes if we think that they do not have a good chance of survival. We can actually stop their suffering and thats really important to recognize as well because its not ok to leave these animals out there suffering. With that injured 370 pound bear is going home. He was trucked back to the mountains is burn injuries healed enough for him to be returned to the wild. The bear that could only crawl a few weeks ago. Jody is now ready to reclaim his domain. I evening and really inspiring. It is not only we able to release that we were able to follow along find a link to rape her stay or when their walk 20 miles. And they went on trial and 6 pass for me back in the wild. Great story and this is a statewide effort. Yeah because a lot of these animals are almost all over the state were talking about outlines in particular which you can find in the mountains from Northern California all the way down into southern california. Now finally. There is this network where when an injured animal is found. It can be brought to the same resources and given the kind of treatment needs and then hopefully recuperated and put back into the white all those great volunteers. Yeah, good.
