The door, telling them that their windows were shattering because of that heat which point they were all rush out of the building immediately. See, you see tons of people out here with their dogs in their robes. I saw one woman caring just 3 or 4 bags of her personal belongings. And of course, you have a lot of looking lewers from buildings next door. And from my understanding, i spoke with somebody who says that theyre in the building next to the building that was evacuated. They were also evacuated as well. From where im standing at this angle. I dont necessarily see any type of you know, aid services or a trucks here right now. But again, im only on one. And when it comes to, you know, the fire hoses were talking, at least i would say 10 that are out here right now with more than i would say, 3 dozen fire officials out on the scene. You see that were on the roofs of the other buildings next door to that building that caught fire and you even have people are who are out here right now, you know, barefoot with a blanket wrapped around them because they left all their belongings back inside. So as to what started, i am still working to find but, you zoom in for you. So you guys can see this is just a handful of those fire officials that are out here and behind me behind the camera, weve got another 6 or 7 trucks that are currently out here as well. And, you know, as reena said, this is a really populated area. Theres a gym. Theres little coffee shops. Theres a small park thats in between you know this, these to cross street. So it is a busy area. Its very highly impacted. You see businesses that are starting to come out as well. If you are out there, you can hear us right now. Talked about the people you spoke to me and are are looking at how massive this fire looked like. It several stories up just high those flames got. Do you know how many folks were in the building at the time . No, not. I do not know. I cannot confirm how many people were in the building at the but i will say the woman that i spoke with said that it was a full and the building looks like its got to be at least 4 to 5 stories high from what i can see on my and so i mean, it just depends. I mean, if if that is the case in a 45 hi, you know, i mean, youre talking at least i would say 30 to 40 different people that are times you behind me a few feet. I see another woman. Shes got bags of her clothes and shes still in her pajamas. So i had chat with some people and see what else i can but again, it is its a massive scene in i hopefully nobody was injured and hopefully everybody did get out. But from what we do know is that windows were shattered by this. He actually here comes the fire officials in continue. Tell us that actually live right now. Can you tell us was anybody hurt or are inside . So if youre everybody chances go fire department. This is a fouralarm fire. Came in at 5. 54. This morning. We currently have no injuries associated to this incident. Currently, this for with 130 firefighters on scene and over. 15 fire fire has extended for most structures. Actually evacuated. Hold those structures with no injuries. The cause of the fire was that is under investigation this point. This is a building under construction and that information would are the people that were evacuated next or somebody tell me that their windows shattered his out from the next door thats something that will be looking into. But that could be something possible. All right, darren james, well, i mean, sorry, dorian reyna will. That the latest from one of the fire officials there was. Yeah, it was a building like i had that i thought was under construction. So there you have it for the people who were evacuated, obviously, were people neighboring to that let me zoom in for you before you that construction, its like, yeah, thank sophie. I do this and its smoke you can get a better picture. Yeah, we see the scaffolding and when we saw the the building on fire, you could tell that it was scaffolding as well. So thankfully, thats the only way you can imagine that nobody was hurt, which is just incredible. Michael. Yeah, no, it really is incredible. I mean, like i said from what i can see this, now that we know its under construction, it had have been at least 4 to 5 stories high. Thankfully, nobody, as you heard was im hoping to chat with people who were evacuated because of that womans windows were shattered. Im sure that theres got to be maybe some type of damage to neighboring building. Sure. Okay. Thank you, michael. Well check back with you a little bit later as you get more details this morning. Definitely area to avoid this morning. Exactly grateful that no one was hurt, especially firefighters were quick to get that out. Today are renting on average for less than they did a year ago. Apartment list says slowing demand, increasing supply has led to slowing rent growth this year. And despite july being peak moving season where we often see rent increases, apartment rent prices are down 7 tenths of a percent year over year. Know were talking about home prices actually cause it during the pandemic. We know that everything went went up up up and now it looks like theres a slowing demand. Yeah, this is all according to whats going on with emily finn reporting that from news nation. So thats just causing landlords to have to compete for poor tenants in a way that they didnt have last summer. And thats really whats helping to prepay system in overwhelming market runup during the covid19 pandemic monthly asking prices for rentals rose 15 between 2020 2022. But now renters are breathing a sigh of relief with rates slipping back to prepandemic prices with one to 3 growth per year. And in cities like austin and atlanta, price rates are even decreasing, offering some great deals to anyone looking to move. According to real estate data firm costar group rent rates rose a little over one percent in june. Thats down from nearly 3 in march. And one of the biggest factors contributing to the decrease in rates is new apartment construction. Nearly 1 Million Units are currently being built across the u. S. With about half expected to hit the market this year and half next year for some the highest levels weve ever seen in terms multifamily units under construction, lower demands for new rentals, some of the weakest level since 2009 is also a reason behind the slowing rates with options for young people to live with roommates or at home with parents becoming a more popular option to save money. But if you are looking to move washington, idaho, arizona, texas and nevada are the top states that saw the largest yearly decrease in rent prices. We want to get back to the breaking news, which is a huge fire in hayes valley and San Francisco. Yeah, weve been covering that for most of the morning. Dozens of people have been evacuated. Lets get straight to kron. 4 Michael Thomas who is live at the scene with an update. Good morning, michael. Hi, good morning, everyone. This is right over oak street in octavia boulevard. You know, i want to zoom in so you can see. So as we learned from fire officials, this was a building that was under construction. And you can see it was at least 4 or 5 stories high and it goes all the way down the block. I want to zoom in so you can see just how much water it is that theyre using to put this fire out. You can see all that chart up material that still left there. Let me see if i can zoom in a little bit better for you. Guys can see that water there, you know. And according to officials, they say that a total of 4 buildings surrounding this specific building were actually evacuated. As of right now, they say they can only confirm that 5 people in their apartments were displaced. However, they do believe that number is expected to grow, at least by 2 or 3 as we get into the afternoon. They say that this area is going to be closed off and will probably be active until at least this evening. And we talk about the number of fire officials that are here. Were talking more than at least 3 or 4 dozen talk about fire trucks. Theres at least a dozen fire trucks. Take a look at this video. We have from earlier. You can see that scene just completely engulfed into flames. They tell me that its still under investigation. Nobody was hurt. Thankfully that their team was able to get everybody evacuated. But again, there were a total of 4 buildings that surrounded this that were affected and may see some damage at some point. I know earlier in the last hour, i told you guys, i spoke with one woman who said she woke up to her neighbor banging on the door and not only did they feel heat, but she said that her neighbors exploded from the glass exploded from this heat. So you can see it really impacted a lot of and again, the street is completely closed off. We talk about businesses as reyna had mentioned earlier. Theres a gym in this area. Theres a small little park in this area. So it is going to impact a lot of traffic commute this morning as well. But right now they say that everything is under control, but the seawall remain active with fire officials here trying to put things completely out for at least the next 5 to 7 hours or so. If you want to come back out here live, you can see again, theyre still up there. I dont know that i can show you the gentleman up top on the latter. But you can completely just gone. Reyna and daria to you guys have anything specific that you wanted to chat about. Just want to make sure you know, were talking about the fact that nobody was injured. Had you seen any ambulances on the scene . Just curious about that because i was bringing up the could have been her from the glass yeah, agreed stated that was still under investigation and they do believe that more than 5 people are going to be displaced. Did not see any paramedics or anything on the scene when i arrived. But again, keep in mind that i was only on one side of the street. So it was hard for me to see what was on the other side of the street where i was standing where a lot of firefighters were. I did not see any type of paramedics at any point. However, thats not to say that there was some earlier in the morning when things first started. To happen at one of the most incredible things as were looking at video from when the fly fire was blazing was just how breaking out at 06 00am. You were there within 45 minutes and there were no flames, which is incredibly adding up at a pretty fast. Yeah, i mean, and you know, she did a the fire. Did go ahead and give you know, some kudos to her team saying that they were able to evacuate and make sure to keep it all contained in one area. But i do know for live right now. You can see it just completely engulfed. I mean, and another thing, you know, that my question was, you know, is there any type of is there a possibility that this, you know, could collapse at some point, given that there was a fire due to she says thats, you know, and and theres a lot if i zoom out a little bit, you can see theres a fullon structure that was unaffected necessarily to be burned at all. But its literally within 10 feet of it. So she says that they are going to be here investigating it, keeping an eye on things because it is a building thats under construction and not even necessarily fully built. I mean, maybe the base of it is. But if i zoom in there, you can see just all the construction ladders and so that still in there, you can see all that water that still coming down going construction that the think its safe to say with everything thats going on there. To just avoid octavia street and oak. If you are in San Francisco. Right now, stay out of that area until theyre able to get things cleared up and clean out. Absolutely. I agree. And its we get more you guys will hear from fire officials on the next hour that i okay. Thanks so much, michael. Grateful it wasnt much. Worse. Theyre good thing. There was a lot of wind this is is factor in john following weather for good morning. Calm, cool. Thank goodness for a lot of things out there being a construction site as well. We are going to be seeing conditions this morning that are going to stay nice and cool to a little bit of a switch up as we move into the start of august here.
