The number of people now confirmed killed in the wildfires is 99 and theyre still going through the recovery efforts. Hawaiis governor says that more than 2,200 structures were destroyed by the flames and 86 . The vast majority were peoples homes. So they still have to go through. All of those homes that have been reduced to rubble and ash. He says that there are just under 2000 Housing Units made available for all of those people have been displaced. And on top of that, the governor says not now the issue is access to water to fight the fires because theres a shortage of water available for the firefighters. Officials blamed that on a recent ruling by an environmental judge, part of a longstanding battle between environmentalists and private companies over the practice of diverting water from east maui streams. And people in california and across the bay area are helping whatever way they can to aid those people who have been devastated on maui. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson has more on that. People who survived the wildfire are reeling after losing their homes. And businesses are reality. All too familiar for californians throughout our history with deadly wildfires. More than anybody. Californians know what its like to deal with wildfire. And we know the environmental damage, the physical damage and the damage to the economy. Brian rice was a firefighter for 30 years. Hes now the chair of the california fire foundation. It helped raise money for those in need after the camp and car fires. There are so many similarities. In both of those incidents, and whats going on in the higher right now. The foundation has created a relief fund on behalf of the hawaii professional Firefighters Association so that it can be distributed to people displaced on maui. And for firefighters who have been injured or affected by the fires. Nearly 30,000 has been raised so far. I think nows the time for californians. That many of us have visited the island and we have experienced. Aloha. And now is the time that we give aloha back. The foundation insurers, 100 of the proceeds will go directly to survivors.
