In hawaii on maui, the number of people confirmed dead in the wildfires is now. 99 and it will continue to grow as they sift through the rubble and wreckage. Like you see here, hawaiis governor has said that. 2200 plus structures have been destroyed and that 86 of news has or homes. Is just heartbreaking as they continue to go through these efforts to even get to the bottom of the devastation. He says that there are there is help. About 2000 Housing Units have been made available for those people been displaced. And on top of this, the governor says that theres now a fight over access to water to fight the fires because state Officials Say theres a shortage of water available for firefighters and they blame that on a recent ruling by environmental judges in part of a longrunning battle between environmentalists and private companies over the practice of diverting water from east maui streams. In the meantime, we are seeing the bay area rally as is california coming together to try to help all of those people who have been displaced by the wildfires on maui and kron 4. People who survived the wildfire are reeling after losing their homes. And businesses are reality. All too familiar for californians throughout our history with deadly wildfires. More than anybody. Californians know what its like to deal with wildfire. And we know the environmental damage, physical damage and the damage to the economy. Brian rice was a firefighter for 30 years. Hes now the chair of the california fire foundation. It helped raise money for those in need after the camp and car fires. There are so many similarities. In both of those incidents, and whats going on in the higher right now. The foundation has created a relief fund on behalf of the hawaii professional Firefighters Association so that it can be distributed to people displaced on maui. And for firefighters who have been injured or affected by the fires. Nearly 30,000 has been raised so far. I think nows the time for californians. That many of us have visited the island and we have experienced. Aloha. And now is the time that we give aloha back. The foundation insurers, 100 of the proceeds will go directly to survivors. Rice advises all to make sure before you donate to an organization that its legitimate. There are a lot of organizations out there that are springing up and their intention is to make it all some of the money that they collect will never hawaii or simao.
