Im grant lotus Vicki Liviakis after to san jose worker union struck a deal with the city council. Yeah, it calls for big pay raises over the next few years and staves off a potentially devastating strike. Union officials are calling this a big win for workers. Kron fours terisa stasio reports. Im here in jose city hall. A big sigh of relief from union worke s. But the mayor as a much different response early tuesday morning, the city council met behind closed doors to go over the latest proposal sent by union officials. And just before noon, a big announcement, a tentative agreement that calls for sweeping changes for one wage increases in the first year by 6 with 2 more years of pay increases. Also an increase of one to 8 weeks of paid family leave more competitive, bilingual pay and an expansion on retention and recruitment improvements. Of course, everybody is always happier with higher wages. But i think more so that just shows aspects that are going to assist with the retention recruitment issues are going bring a lower the level of stress all the in place in the city of san jose. Those are currently working 2 to 3 employees. Jobs do they can see i think its an immediate solution but definitely steps in the right direction and bring a better quality of work life to these employees. Myself included what working families will likely see because of this is higher taxes. And service cuts such as Library Hours and 911, response times. While a majority of my colleagues support this deal, i cannot. Our leaders are elected to represent the people. And the needs of the people took a back seat. San jose mayor matt mahan quickly hit back on the agreement saying that the council buckled in politics and caved to pressure from the union. He says in the weeks ahead, the city manager will reveal what services may be caught due to this agreement. Union officials will bring the agreement to their members for a vote in the coming days. In fact, the city is setting new records. Not good as kron fours. Dan kerman reports, though, Public Health Officials Say fentanyl is mostly to blame. And while its an uphill battle, theyre still hoping expansion of existing programs and treatments will bring those overdose numbers down. Despite a massive Multifaceted Program to fight drug overdoses. San francisco appears to be losing the battle. This the fentanyl continues to overwhelm our communities. At a News Conference tuesday, San Francisco Health Director doctor grant colfax announced. 71 people died of drug overdoses in july alone, bringing total od deaths for the first 7 months of the year to 473. It pains me. To share that this is the highest Overdose Deaths. San francisco has experience. And it correlates with his overtake. Fentanyl into our supply. City Officials Say 80 of those Overdose Deaths the result of fentanyl, which they say is become cheaper, more potent and more available. We are flooding areas with naloxone. Lifesaving lack naloxone, expanding access to treatment and working with Community Partners to better understand the various impacts. Fentanyl is happy. But most important we are working hard to try and get people on the past to recovery. City Officials Say legal hurdles that the state and federal level make safe consumption sites unlikely and those wellness hubs that have been budgeted will also not happen anytime soon. But Public Health officials remain optimistic, expanding outreach and treatment through existing neighborhood and mobile clinics can make a significant difference. Many enter that plea today in a San Francisco courtroom. Many is accused of stabbing and killing the tech mogul back in april San Franciscos ring, cannes neighborhood prior to the stabbing. Police say lee had been hanging out with many sister which they say led to an argument between the 2 man back in june. The many had pleaded not guilty to the charges with his former lawyer. Appearance is scheduled for the beginning of october. The man arrested for a Fatal Shooting outside the lake merritt bart station last week has now been charged with murder. According to police, the incident started with an argument between 2 people over an electric scooter. That is when police say Juan Martinez shot and killed a man. Martinez is currently being held in the santa rita jail without bail. If convicted, he faces a possible prison sentence of 25 years to life. Fulton County District attorney fani willis announced that trump and 18 of his allies are charged with crimes ranging from racketeering to conspiracy. The indictment accuses them of lying to state officials creating fake election documents and engaging in a cover up. Well, vicki, what makes this 4th indictment so critical for donald trump is that the law works differently in the state of georgia. A president cannot pardon statelevel charges and neither kind of governor. Today during kron, 4 news at 3, i talked with our political analyst michael yaki who says even if donald trump were to win the election, theres no getting out of this case. It didnt win a dollar. Trumps regions stated by his own advisers, a bike is running for president as we can make sure that youre convicted any federal charges or to dismiss the federal charges, i mean, president having control, im just federal judiciary process. He has no power in georgia. In fact, the only way a pardon can issued in georgia is through an independent board. And you can only request a pardon after serving at least 5 years of a sentence. As for those other indictments, special counsel jack smith has been leading to federal probes related to trump in june. The former president was indicted on charges that he mishandled top secret documents at his maralago home and then tried to hide the evidence from federal investigators. He faces 40 felonies in this case, the most serious charge carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. A trial date is set for next may for this one. Jack smiths second case. It was unveiled earlier this month when trump was indicted on felony charges for working to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the runup to the january 6 riot by his supporters at the u. S.
