Now a lot of people waking up in the dark across the bay area because of the storms. At last check, about 1800 homes and businesses without power. A lot of them right here in San Francisco where we are this morning. Were out in the sunset district. And you can see this particular outage is here near the intersection of 35th avenue. And crews have been out here since last night, working hard to get the power back on for this neighborhood after lightning took down one of the power lines on the street at about 9 30 or so last night. People in this neighborhood, they pulled out the flashlights this morning to get ready for work or for school with no lights. All of these outages, various outages across the bay area were caused by last nights thunderstorms. You see that lightning lit up the San Francisco skyline and lightning reported all over the bay area. The National Weather service says there were 7,000 Lightning Strikes across the bay area last night. Not all of the Lightning Strikes hit the ground. One woman who lost power at her home because of a Lightning Strike says it was truly a wild night. Crazy. It was crazy here. We could see it all night long. We havent had power since 9 30 last night. Where are you off to. To work. To get some power. Reporter near Golden Gate Park, last night lightning hit a tree that fell on to a parked car along 24th street at fulton. Thankfully no one was hurt there. Check out the lightning above at t park last night before the giants game with the dodgers. The storms actually delayed the start of that game. They didnt get first pitch or didnt really play the game until after 11 00 last night. And the game finally ended at 2 10 this morning. The giants came out on top with an electrifying win last night. Pardon the pun. Steve, you talked about it yesterday, the potential for some of these powerful thunderstorms with lightning. And now youre talking about possibly a similar show here in the bay area. I would think so today. Yes. One more day. Maybe even wednesday morning. Then after that, it will be gone. Alex, i would agree that today could get interesting. We need heat to get going. All quiet over the golden gate right now. Take a look at the golden gate last night. Lightning show before the ggb. Thanks to jim tang. He sent this out on twitter. Those were the most that i saw by far. Things are quiet right now. But they are beginning to develop rapidly here. This is from last night. There goes the came up from the south bay, Santa Cruz Mountains, right through the peninsula and right into San Francisco and of course marin county. Even up north, parts of Mendocino County. Things have calmed down. The low is really close to us now. Even though it is cooler today, it will be warm enough to generate enough lift. Already beginning to develop the cloud cover. 60s, 70s on the temps. Running noticeably cooler. Two to nine degrees. Livermore is off nine compared to 24 hours ago. It is not in the 90s unless youre well inland. There is an on shore breeze for some. Enough of a southeast breeze around 10,000 feet that will funnel in a lost the moisture. I think things are going to pop here quick. You can see Development Taking place. It is cloudy. Maybe that will hold off more shower activity. Dont be surprised if we get more thunderstorms later. 70s and 80sand a few 90s on the temps. Sal, what do you have on the traffic . Good, bad, moderate. It is moderate, steve. There were a lot of people that went through Contra Costa County because of issues on 80. Westbound as you drive through lafayette, traffic is going to be slow here in lafayette. It gets better by the time that you reach orinda and the oakland side. Also slow traffic on 680 and highway 4 in Contra Costa County. People are avoiding 80 because it was slow due to earlier crash. The crash is gone but the slow traffic remains from highway 4. The east bay commute is slow. A lot of people heading to the bay bridge toll plaza. We will see it backed up for 25 minutes. San mateo and dumbarton bridges are moderately heavy. In the south bay, a lot of early slow traffic. 101 and 85. A little bit on 280, but it is kind of slow, especially on 101 heading up to 280. 7 06. Back to the desk. A shelter in place has been lifted after a power line went down. It happened at 10 00 last night on san ramon street. People were told to stay inside until the crews arrived. The branch that fell was about ten feet long. Firefighters say they were busy all night long responding to a number of calls about Lightning Strikes and small fires. Happening today, local lawmakers are taking action, hoping to stop distracted pedestrians from looking at their phones while walking on busy streets. They are hoping it will spread statewide. Allie rasmus is in redwood city to tell us more about this. Reporter this is a popular area with pedestrians, a lot of coffee shops, restaurants. People walking around. We havent seen anyone staring down at their phone as they cross the street here. That is the behavior that one county lawmaker is worried about it. They are worried about it nationwide. We know about distracted drivers. Distracted pedestrians are a problem too. Youre introducing a resolution today to encourage the state to enact some sort of law about this. How big a problem is this. Certainly it is a big problem. We know through federal data that distracted walking is becoming an issue. People are moving to their cell phones in rapid numbers. We know the incidents of people getting hit while on their cell phone is an issue. You havent heard of any particular crashes or injuries of anyone here in San Mateo County happening. But you have described this kind of problem firsthand. That is an understatement. I have seen people walking across the street, whether watching a movie on their phone or texting. This has really become an issue. Those naysayers who say wait a minute, this is sort of a nanny law, i would suggest to they will, lets look at the seatbelt law in the 80s. A lot of people were opposed to seat belts. What this law does is about Public Safety and protecting people and making them aware of their surroundings. Were in redwood city right now. Technology all over the place. For us to keep up with 21st century phones, we have to have 21st century solutions. You referenced one other city that enacted a ban on people looking at their cell phones as they cross the street. Honolulu. But here in california, youre restricted in terms of what sort of ban you can enact city wide. Correct. Tell me about that. What honolulu were able to do they enacted that law. However, we cant do it on a county basis. I have talked with our county council. We are governed by the california vehicle code. Because we brought up the issue up, there is a local Assembly Member looking to push this forward and hopefully it gets signed by the governor sometime next year. This is to send a message to state lawmakers, hey, we want you to do something about it. All politics is local. With law thats come about in the legislature, usually they start at a local level and then the legislators put those forward. It is a common sense approach. Im sure that the legislature will adopt it. Reporter thank you. That resolution will be introduced at a meeting happening at the county board of supervisors in San Mateo County at 9 00 this morning. We will stay on it and listen and see what happens with that. Check back in with you later. All right, allie rasmus. Thank you. Coming up next, homeless encampments in San Francisco. An ordinance that cracks down on tents. Apple getting ready to unveil its latest iphone from its new campus. We took legendary, and made it liberating. We took safe, and made it daring. The time is 7 12. This morning were looking at a new ordinance in San Francisco with the goal of getting Homeless People off the streets and into housing. Proposition q bans tents and structures on city sidewalks. The city has to give 24hour written notice and offer shelter or housing or their possessions may be seized. A total of 152 notices have been issued during a sixweek Pilot Program this summer when beds were available at a Navigation Center in the mission district. Over 92 of the people were taking us up on the offers. So it never needed to be enforced and property never was seized. If we can get one more person, one more family out of their tent and into housing, thats the success were looking for. Supervisor mark ferrell authored the bill. He hopes to see more money and resources allocated to the homeless. 4,000 are living on the streets. The question of the day is how should cities handle homeless encampments . Let us know what you think. Vote on the ktvu twitter page or on ktvu. Com. You can also leave comments for us on the ktvu facebook page. The time is 7 13. Reporter the president maybe serving up compromise at the dinner tonight. There are plenty of other distracts in washington. It is not clear that enough lawmakers have the appetite for this right now. The president s Campaign Style push for comprehensive tax reform may win over the choir but it will be more difficult today at the white house as he breaks bread with a Bipartisan Group of senators ranging from conservative republicans to moderate democrats. We want to get a complete tax reform package. Thats the goal. Reporter thats the goal. But the reality in congress could fall short. For the republicans, theres one absolute total ill parity. That is to pass a tax cut by thanksgiving. Trump has reason to worry that they wont be able to do it. Reporter that could help joyce the economy. But the president will have to deal with members of his own party that are angry with the shortterm deal that he struck with democrats to fund the government through december and raise the detassel ceiling. Because of that, he may have a better relationship with Democratic Leaders in congress. Were glad that the president accepted it. For the good of the country. Now we have more to get done. And as kevin pulls it back, you can see it is having a little bit of an effect on 80, the central freeway, and on westbound 80 coming out to the 101 interchange. So 101 the central freeway and 80 slow because of the stalled vehicle. Nowas 7 48, lets bring in steve with the forecast. Thank you, sal. Plenty to talk about after last nights great display. We could see similar today. Already clouds beginning to build up here. The low responsible for funneling in a lot of the moisture is moving closer. West southwest of santa cruz right now. Do you see a day similar to yesterday as far as thunderstorms go . Less lightning . More lightning . What n. What areas . No pressure, russell. Lets see. Yes. Less. Inland more so than coast and bay. Why is that . Because the low is farther to the south and the flow came up from the valley and came right back over towards san cute mown Santa Cruz Mountains and San Francisco. Anybody could be in on it today. Craig says last night from russian hill. Crazy light show in the city all night. Was there lightning in the city last night . Yes, there was. Thank you for all of the photos. We have a lot to post here today. The most rain was at rock away beach. Daly city,. 19. That was the most that was the bulk, around south San Francisco over to sfo. Fremont. 12. Hayward hills. 11. Oakland airport,. 07. And many. 04s. Mill valley, kent field, palo alto in there. So not bat. Not bad. The average rainfall for the month of september in San Francisco is. 21. Were about halfway there. We see a little break here. Clouds are beginning to build up quick. If we go cloudy, that is not good. Much yesterday it cleared and got hot and we got a lot of lift. Then the moisture was funnelled up here by the low. Thats what happened last night. Now you can see the moisture beginning to pick up again. This is the area to watch. I think more so here. Yesterday it was down around monterey at this time. Most of this moved off shore. The cloud cover is streaming northward. The key is the low. I will show you that in a second. 65 half moon bay, 71, brentwood. There are a few 50s. East bay temps, 60s and 70s. The dew point around 58 to 65. That is plenty to get things going once we start to warm up. Again, you need the sun breaks to help with the lift here. Not off shore in vacaville, but on shore at travis. Not much of a breeze yet. In the south, it is very calm. Yesterday was very windy. That is not the case so far. The low is right here. Yesterday it was down here. As it lifting in ward, it could send in bands. I think it tends to favor areas inland. Unless it backs off a little bit. That could put moisture just about everywhere. 70s, 80s and 90s, that is warm enough to give us another round of Thunder Showers and maybe some of the downdrafts like yesterday morning. Much cooler thursday as the low kicks out. Never know. Never know. Thanks, steve. The time is 7 52. You heard about distracted driving. About what distracted walking . Boy, the lightning really lit up the bay area skies last night. We will have the latest on yesterdays storm and the Power Outages that left many people in the dark. And we continue to follow the latest surrounding Hurricane Irma. We will talk about someone who lives in florida who was evacuated and is hoping to return home to see the damage for the first time. At Stanford Health care, we can now repair complex aortic aneurysms without invasive surgery. If we can do that, imagine what we can do for varicose veins. And if we can precisely treat eye cancer with minimal damage to the rest of the eye, imagine what we can do for glaucoma, even cataracts. If we can use dna to diagnose the rarest of diseases, imagine what we can do for the conditions that affect us all. Imagine what we can do for you. Good morning. A dazzling electric show before the bay area last night as thousands of Lightning Strikes lit up the night sky. We will tell you about the Power Outages caused by the powerful thunderstorms. Irma has moved on, mostly away from florida, however leaving a path of destruction. And frustrated homeowners in its wake. Im Lauren Blanchard with the latest on the cleanup. This is ktvu mornings on 2. Good morning. Welcome back to mornings on 2. It is tuesday, september 12th. Im mike mibach. Im gasia mikaelian. This is what everyone is talking about this morning. Lightning strikes lighting up the night sky across the bay area yesterday. Unfortunately the Severe Weather has left many people in the dark overnight and into today. We will have more on the problems from the storm coming up. First we bring in Steve Paulson with more on whether or not we will see this uncertainty continue. Yes. We will today. Excellent. Yes. It is fun. It is different. Yeah. September, it happens. Not that unusual. We do have a little bit quieter pattern right now. Things are beginning to pop. Im leaning more on inland areas today versus say the coast or the bay. Thats what happened last night. Anybody is close enough today. The low is right there to the west southwest. That was last night. Things calmed down. Watch heading up to sacramento and the valley. Right there. Its going to happen. Its going to happen. Its just a matter of where the placement is. Today i think more to the east. We had thunderstorms from Santa Cruz Monterey up to fort bragg. It was impressive. Things are developing out to the valley. Thats the key to watch out there to see if you can get development. South of monterey, things are developing. 60s and 70s on the temps. Cooler today compared to yesterday about one to five degrees. The afternoon highs will be cooler. But the amount of moisture in the air, the dew points are high much thats the low right there. It is closer to us compared to yesterday. But you can see the flow coming around that could easily produce more Thunder Showers. 70s, 80s and a few 90s on the temps. 8 02. And the traffic is it is getting busier. If youre in the south bay on the 680 as it turns into 280, you have slow traffic. We can show it to you. Our crew on 680 south transitioning to northbound 280, you can see that traffic is beginning to slow down. There is a plane going to san jose airport. Were on the 280 portion of the flight not of the flight. Of the commute, driving up through. The traffic will be busy getting up to highway 17. Lets move along and look at other commutes. The east bay commute has been slow, especially 680 and 80. 680 through Contra Costa County is backed up way back on 680 well before the benecia bridge. It will be tough to get through. 80 is also slow. And we also have northbound 101 clearing an accident from anza, near burlingame here. Thats why traffic is so slow on northbound 101 through san mateo. Southbound 101, that stalled vehicle remains. Southbound 101 right here at the ups building. It is causing a delay and may affect the bay bridge coming in. Here is another look at 280. I wanted to show you. We showed you the ground picture. This is a picture from one of the tower cameras. Thank you, sal. There were 1200 cloud to ground Lightning Strikes since last night. It left a lot of people without power unfortunately. Alex savidge is live in San Francisco with ongoing Power Outages there. Alex. Reporter yeah. Good morning to both of you. A lot of people around the bay area getting ready for work or school with no power. At last check, pg e reported 1800 homes and businesses are in the dark. A lot of them right here in San Francisco. You can see behind us on this block, crews are busy trying to restore power to this neighborhood near 35th avenue after lightning struck a power line here last night. Mom. Mom. It blew up. This is the dramatic cell phone video taken by 17year old caitlyn. When the lightning struck a power line causing the power line to explode and plunging the neighborhood into darkness. There were nearly 7,000 Lightning Strikes reported across the bay area last night. A thousand or so of them hit the ground. The sacred heart senior who watched the transformer blow up last night said these storms were some of the most frightening experiences of her life. I was so scared. I had no idea what to do. I was fearing for my mom. Like none of us knew what to do. Our power is out. I just had no idea. I thought the world was ending. Reporter the storms caused a lot of problems near Golden Gate Park. Lightning hit a tree that fell on to a parked car at 24th and fulton. Thankfully no one was hurt there. Check out the lightning above at t park before the giants game with the dodgers last night. The storm actually delayed the start of the game. It finally ended at 2 10 this morning. The giants came out on top in that one. After a game that stretched into the Early Morning hours, you can bet that the players were zapped. Steve told us about the thunderstorms, the potential for them yesterday. Now were talking about more unsettled weather coming in later on today. And crews busy throughout the region. Pg e crews are trying to restore power to a lot of neighborhoods. Probably will be for the next 24 to 36 hours. Thank you, alex. Many people who left florida because of Hurricane Irma are starting slowly to go back home. At least seven deaths are being blamed on irma plus one death in georgia and one in south carolina. The governor says several bridges in the keys dont seem to be seriously damaged. But more time is needed to finish inspections. The power is still out for millions this morning and the cleanup has whyet to begin. Lauren is live in tampa, florida this morning to bring us the latest. Lauren. Reporter yeah. Hi, mike and gasia. Irma may have come and gone but the damage is extensive in many cities. Some of those evacuated residents are finally able to go home. This as fema is ramping up its response. Up and down the florida coast and beyond, flooding problems continue as anxious residents began returning home in some areas to get a firsthand look at the devastation left behind by irma. Fema is now out in force throughout the state, promising a strong response. It is all about communication. Clearly identifying how to support our state and local partners. That is exactly what is taking place today as we start to turn the corner. Reporter more than 6 Million People are still without power in at least five states. And in some hard hit cities like jacksonville, rescues are still underway as the flood waters continue to rise. What i dont want people, i dont want them to be complacent. Reporter some evacuation orders are being lifted, including in the florida keys where the storm made landfall. Homeowners now doing what they can to clean up their neighborhoods. Many thankful that the damage isnt worse. Im thankful that were all here alive. Im thankful that our community is out and trying to assess the damage. Pretty scary. You dont know when its going to hit, when your house is going to flood. Reporter and here in tampa, gas is still in fairly short supply. This as people are trying to get back home and fill not their cars. Good news for the residents here. The port is expected to open in about three hours. And there are fuel tankers ready to go as soon as it does. Mike, gasia. Lauren, you hear in storms like this, a lot of people are injured in the cleanup effort, not from the initial storm itself. Is that something that officials are worried about there . Reporter well, obviously officials want everybody to be as safe as possible which is a big reason that they are trying to keep the damaged areas closed off to the public. Thats when people get hurt, when theyre driving over debris or trying to pick up debris or worse walking over or around downed power lines. That is why authorities have kept a lot of people out of the really hard hit areas like the florida keys. But of course theyre also warning people as they go back into the damaged homes to be on the lookout for things like power lines and that kind of thing. There is a positive for sports fans in florida. The bucs announced they will be hosting the Chicago Bears this coming weekend. Lauren is live in tampa. We appreciate the report. A family from lehigh acres in florida, which is near mother myers, on the west side of the state, went to orlando to ride out the storm. Jeremy, tell us what youre seeing where you are, jeremy. We came in last night, early evening. And it really looked like i mean i put on facebook it looked like we were in a war torn area. Power lines were down. We drove over two power line thats were down. Its a good thing that the power is out. Because im sure they dont want us driving around. But we had to get home. Were concerned about the area and concerned about our house. And we had to get home. Experiencing this type of hurricane, what was that like for you. It was unbelievable. You know, you the they tell you we moved down here eight years ago. They tell you when you come down here to be ready and prepared for it. But nothing will prepare you for what is happening. We we left as soon as we possibly could. My wife and i both have full time jobs here. And they gave us an evacuation notice. And we packed our stuff, grabbed our kid and drove to orlando where luckily we had family that had a fortified condo that literally took the beating. We listened to the winds howl all night, push on the sliding doors. We were on the top floor of a sixfloor building. We heard transformers blowing up all around us. At least five explosions. When we came home, thats what we expected and what we found. It is ravaged. The city of lehigh where we live, there are no stores open. Im sitting in the walmart parking lot and it says we are closed until further notice. Wow. There is no power. They dont expect for us to get power for another few weeks. Theyre more worried about naples and the cove line. Theyre not worried about us out here in the sticks. I was told that youre a high school teacher. Is that true . Yes, sir. What do you families do . Is there any damage to schools there and are students going to be bussed to other School Districts . Has there been talk about this part of the story . Well, yeah. Were were actually shut down for the entire week. The school distree of lee county says they are not opening anything for the entire week. We might go back on monday. What i heard yesterday is we are planning on open the district offices on monday of next week. But right now all of the schools are closed. In fact, theyre using i dont know, probably a dozen at least a dozen when we left were opened up as storm shelters. My high school was one of the primary ones. We have 3,000 people inside of our building for the four days that the storm basically came in and leveled everything. And i believe there are still people there. But they did open the shelters and let people go home if they wanted to. Yep. All right. Jeremy, an incredible firsthand account. Thanks for joining us this morning. Im glad youre okay. Thanks, mike and gasia. Appreciate it. Of course. X is going to mark the spot for apple today. What you can expect from the newest iphone to be revealed today. Weve all heard about distracted drivers. What about distracted pedestrians, people looking down at their cell phones while crossing the street. Find out what one san mateo lawmaker wants the state to do about it. Been trying to prepare for this day. And im still not ready. The reason im telling you this is that there will be moments in your life that. Youll never be ready for. Your little girl getting married being one of them. A county supervisor along the peninsula wants state lawmakers to do something about distracted walking. Allie rasmus is in redwood city to explain here. Allie. Reporter downtown redwood city is where we are. It is a high traffic area for cars and pedestrians with a lot of coffee shops and restaurants, theaters, all in one immediate location. There are several crosswalks around us in courthouse square. San mateo supervisor david says there needs to be more awareness about the dangers of looking down at your phone while crossing the street. He is introducing a resolution to encourage state lawmakers to take up the issue of distracted walking and make it a statewide law to ban looking down at your cell phone while crossing the street. Any law about this would have to be a statewide law. The county cant do it at a city, county by county area because of the california vehicle code. But there is also a question about how would you enforce Something Like this . Well, he says that its all about increasing awareness about the issue. How do we put a Police Officer on every corner . Is that feasible . Probably not. But maybe theres an opportunity when an officer sees someone or there is an accident that takes place, the first thing they say, look to your left, look to your right, is it safe to cross. Maybe thats a lesson that we should revisit. Reporter and the city of honolulu passed a ban on looking down at your cell phone while walking, crossing the street. And it goes into effect next month. People in that city can be fined for distracted walking from 35 to 99. The supervisor would like to see similar fines tied to distracted walking laws passed here. Again, any laws on this topic would have to be statewide. And thats why he is introducing the resolution at the county supervisors meeting to encourage state lawmakers to take up this cause. Back to you guys. We will continue to follow that story. I was walking outside in Jack London Square and with your head down. With my head down for a instant. And i tripped on the sidewalk. I have never done it again. We have train tracks around here too. I havent done it since then. If you do a yard sale on the pavements, it has different results than when youre skiing. Pay attention. Yeah. I want to go out for some reason, my toll plaza camera may not be working. Let me see if i can load it up again. I want to show there you go. The toll plaza is backed up. We havent talked a lot about it because it has been very routine today. This is what you expect when you go to the toll plaza. Getting there has been slow. Now things are getting a little better. We have the typical slow traffic that you see on 580, 880. If you look at the east bay map, anywhere that you look is red. A lot of slow traffic. 680 is finally improving a little bit. It has been very slow. People were avoiding 880 avoiding 80. That is still slow from near the carquinez bridge. Were talking about the peninsula. That earlier motorcycle accident we had, 101 near anza has been removed. However the damage is done. It will be slow getting up into the airport area. I would suggest as an alternate route use 280 instead. 8 19. Lets bring in steve with todays weather. Thank you, sal. Take a look at last nights rain totals. Lightning was the big show. But there was okay rain especially over sfo and daly city and pacifica. Mount hamilton,. 16 of an inch. Oakland airport,. 07. Mountain view at. 06. And this is sent to us from sandra. Red sky in the morning in dylan beach. Yes. We had similar yesterday. And jenny is out in pleasanton. Morning from pleasanton. A bit of light rain. That is true. However, take a look oh, right there. Up near tracy in patterson. Things are developing already. If youre in stockton and tracy, keep an eye on things. Were getting an early start, and im not surprised here, as the low is close to us already. Maybe lines beginning to form a little bit. Cant find anything close to us yet here. But i think they will develop. Everything has cleared out for now but picking up rapidly here. Certainly to areas to the south. And then beginning to move in. Now, there is a little bit of fog south of big sur. This is cloud cover pops up across the Santa Cruz Mountains and santa clara valley. No downdrafts or anything like we had early yesterday morning. But you see the low is very close to us. The circulation around that. Now, if it backs off a little bit, it might send more bands to closer to the coast and bay. As it stands right now u the best opportunity is to the east. Anybody is in line for some of that today as things start to get juiced up here. Plenty of moisture. Not as hot as yesterday. But 70s, 80s, and a few 90s. Thunderstorms will take us into wednesday morning. Then a cool, breezy pattern thursday and friday. Night sunrises and sunsets. Yes. Thank you, steve. Homeless encampments in the city of San Francisco. We gauge the effectiveness of an ordinance that bans tents on sidewalks. Do you want to do a monster check . Yes. No monsters. We are taking a closer look at homelessness in the bay area. This morning were taking a much deeper look at a new ordinance in San Francisco that has the goal of getting Homeless People off of the streets and into housing. It babs departments and structures on city sidewalks. City has to give a person 24 hours written notice and offer shelter or housing or their possessions may be seized. A total of 152 proposition q notices have been issued so far during a Pilot Program this summer when beds were available at a Navigation Center in the mission district. Over 92 of the people were taking us up on the offers. And so it never needed to be enforced and nobodys personal property was seized. If we could get one more person, one more family out of their tent and into housing, that is the success were looking for. A supervisor who authored the bill hopes to see more money and resources allocated to the resources. Some 7500 people in the city are classified as homeless, 4,000 are living on the streets. We will let you know more about what to expect as you drive to work. Well, it looks like things are beginning to develop pretty quick here, especially by the Altamont Pass. That is the focus today, marin land than coast and bay. We will have an update coming up. Im gasia mikaelian. Good morning. Im mike mibach. We will get to sal in just a bit. First lets check in with steve. The giants won just about six hours ago. What time was that, mike. I think it was six and a half hours ago. 2 10 this morning. You were not there. No, i was not there. They brought out the tarps and thought it was dry. Then theres another cell. Wasnt a little cell. Here we go, off we go. Not bad for us. Today i think things will develop quick here. I have been talking about out to the east. That is a better opportunity for inland areas. Coming up from merced, patterson, over the Altamont Pass, tracy, oakley, maybe brentwood and antioch. Doing exactly what i thought might happen. It is early to get things juiced up. Everything coming out of the southeast. The low is closer towards us. Last few images coming up on 40, merced. So i think things are getting ready to go here. Wont take long. Again, a little bit more heat out to the valley. And the low which was farther south is closer to us. The flow around that looks to be more for inland areas than coast and bay. It is close for everybody. You can see that from last night. Then it went off shore and things calmed down. Already getting good buildup. 60s and 70s on the temps here. The low is not going anywhere until wednesday morning. Until then we are in line for more thunderstorm activity. And you can see some of that activity is developing rapidly. So 70s, 80s, to a few 90s today. 8 31. Sal yeah. We have news about a closure in San Francisco, steve. I want to get to it right away. This is a live picture of San Francisco on o farrell street. This was a shooting that was first reported early this morning, about 6 00 in the morning. Where a couple of vehicles were involved. There also was a crash associated. Police first heard the shot spotter activation on the 700 block of farrell street. There was an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital. We dont know his condition. There may have an a collision involving a couple of the vehicles. However, we dont know if the man who was shot was in which vehicle. But right now, they still have the street closed between mason. You know that is one of the side streets there. And still looks like they have been here for hours. It looks like they will be there for a while longer. The tow truck is on the scene. They may be able to get this open in the next hour, were hoping. Lets take a look at some of the other things we have for the morning commute. Traffic will be slow at the bay bridge this morning. If you are driving for about a 15 to 20 minute delay before you drive to the metering lights. The east bay commute has been jam packed. We can blame earlier crashes for that. People are trying to find their way around 80. That puts pressure on all of the other freeways. Highway 4 is still slow as well. So please give yourself extra time. Northbound 101, they cleared a motorcycle accident. I would use 280 northbound unstead of 101 out of the redwood city area. Lets go back to the desk. Mother nature putting on quite the light show last night. The National Weather service recorded 1200 cloud to ground Lightning Strikes across the bay area. The thunderstorm delayed the giants game against the dodgers. That game ending just after 2 00 this morning. Ktvu viewers sent us pictures of Lightning Strikes where they live in the bay area.
