It happened at my house too. Branches and entire trees falling on cars and houses. Tree Service Companies have been busy removing limbs from roofs. And healthy trees can be knocked out if rain is followed by strong winds. There are no reports of serious injuries. Theres a high wind warning in effect in the north bay and also in the hes bay hills, including the altamont pass. Its 6 01 now. And we want to get a look at the weather. Were talking about the winds. They have died down considerably. And that advisory for the hills has been allowed to expire early. Thats also good news there. In socal not so good. The red flag warning continues. Lets touch on that first. The red flag warning very widespread from Ventura County all the way to san diego. And it goes all the way to friday morning. Its only tuesday morning. Wind gusts to 60 Miles Per Hour in the overnight hours. And isolated to 80 Miles Per Hour a possibility. The fire in the Ventura County and santa paula is right about in here. Doesnt look like its close to highway 101 if youve driven there. Santa paula is closer to highway 126. Here at home, windy in many areas. And the winds are coming down. Breezy for some. Take a look at fairfield, 17 Miles Per Hour gusting to 26. And as we talk about, the direction of the wind could impact you if youre driving. The wind will be pushing up against your car. Be a little careful. If youre experiencing wind along your drive. And we have the coastal flooding that will continue for one more afternoon. It expires later today. And the next high tide is about noon to 12 30. Not just the beaches but the parking lots and the low lying areas. Heres a look at the temperatures with all the winds. 58degrees at Half Moon Bay. And 51 in San Francisco. And upper 30s in santa rosa and 48 in napa. And temperatures slightly warmer. And as we get into the coming days, the upper 60s by the weekend. Driving into San Francisco you cant hope for much better as you drive on interstate 880. Its relatively clear. In case youre camping a flight, its not a bad commute. The san mateo bridge is looking good as you drive to the high rise. And on the maps you dont see a lot of slow traffic in the east bay. A little bit on 880 and thats about all. We look at the south bay and we can pull back. The road sensors are showing us a pretty good ride. This morning at 7 00, oakland city workers are set to go on strike. Negotiations with city leaders about the next contract broke down. Allie rasmus joins us now to explain the impact. So Many Services affected. Theres about 2700 city workers who will be taking part. And thats going to impact public works, library services, city offices, basically any nonessential city service that would normally happen on a tuesday. It will be closed for today. And the strike wont effect police and fire Emergency Services. The chief negotiator for the Union Representing more than 2000 public works employees. Workers are going on strike because of what the union says are multiple unfair labor practices. About a thousand of the citys building inspectors, engineers, and technical workers will also strike in sympathy today. The problems with illegal bumping, homelessness, the use of tractor workers which reduces the high level of services. Reporter the union for Public Workers said it would be willing to call off the strike if the city would give the workers a 4 pay raise for one year and continue talking. The best offer includes 6 over three years. In a statement yesterday, the mayor said the city cannot spend more than they can afford. We are not at an impasse. We view the strike as unlawful and will file an unfair labor practice charge and will continue to work in good faith to reach an agreement. No further talks have been scheduled and were expected updates from the Mayors Office and the union calling the strike. Well have to stay tuned and see what happens. Back to you guys. But democrats want help for the young immigrants known as dreamers who are scheduled to lose protection in march. The president is interested in finding a solution to daca. But that should not be tied to a spending bill. Chuck schumer and nancy pelosi canceled the meeting with republicans last week after President Trump accused them of wanting to raise taxes and allow Illegal Immigrants to flood into the country unchecked. The rules committee has hired an outside investigators to look into the allegations. Police are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of a target store. Westbound 92 traffic is moderately heavy. The wind has blown a lot of the clouds away. And thats making for an easier commute for airplanes. You can see a little bit of slow traffic is developing on the approach to the san mateo bridge. But the dumbarton bridge still looks good. The winds are blowing just a little bit. Not as strong as yesterday. The wind advisory for the hills has expired. And temperatures will be slightly warmer. Clear skies because of the wind and beautiful views. The Nations High School Graduation Rate is at a record high. The department of education says 84 of High School Students graduated on time last year. The highest rate since 2011 when the department started requiring schools to report rates in a standardized way. And were talking about higher than normal tides expected to continue along the coast. Yesterday, Rockaway Beach saw bigger than normal sprays of water. King tides are higher than normal. And they are caused when the moon is closer to the earth. The highest ones are expected at monterey bay and big sur and the warning remains in effect until this afternoon. And we could see flooding. Yeah, wow. Lets go over to rosemary who is talking about the weather and everything related. The gravitational pull will bring the king tides our way one more time. High tides 12 00, 12 30. And well touch on this for a moment. This is going to expire later this afternoon. So this should be the final day where were worried about low lying flooding. And when we say low lying, were talking about the parking lots and the roadways and the trails. This started on sunday and today should be the final day. The winds are a bit breezy but not as strong as yesterday. And the wind advisory has been allowed to expire. Great news there over portions of the north bay. 5 to 10 Miles Per Hour. Where it has remained quite breezy is fairfield. The stretch on i80 where the wind is up against the car could have a hard time there. The wind gusts about 26 Miles Per Hour there. And also watching Half Moon Bay where the wind gusts continue to be quite strong. And Half Moon Bay is one of the warmer locations with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s because of the offshore breeze. 50 in San Francisco. And a little bit of a breeze there. And upper 40s in napa. And upper 30s to start your morning in santa rosa. By tomorrow, the wind is gone. And now we have freeze warnings to worry about for some of our north bay valley locations. This is a look at the san mateo bridge where traffic is moderately heavy. In the east bay, slow traffic from 238 back up to the east bay commute. And highway 4 is slow. And 680 is slowing as you drive past concord and driving into walnut creek. 6 33 and back to the desk. We do continue to follow the developing news about the wildfire in Southern California. Taking a look at some of the video now. Bay area fire crews are headed there to fight the fire. The biggest fire is Ventura County and it started as a small brush fire and quickly spread. Leigh martinez is in the newsroom. And leigh, theres another fire. Reporter a second fire popped up. This one is being called the creek fire. And its burning a thousand acres in the san fernando valley. Gusts reached 60 Miles Per Hour overnight. And the Incident Commander says the winds are increasing, making the fire much more difficult to stop. At 5 00 this morning. Alameda county fire strike team, consisting of five engines headed down to help in ventura. Firefighters from san mateo are also heading down south. The thomas fire is burning near the campus of Thomas Aquinas college in santa paula. Its burned 31,000 acres, about the size of San Francisco. And it could grow to 50,000 acres in the hills. 150 structures have already burned, including the ventura hospital seen engulfed in flames. 27,000 people were forced to evacuate. I know how dry the trees get. And im amazed it isnt burning. All we he had from 5 00 on was the fire was in santa paula. And then it was next thing you know we looked in our backyard and it was over the hill. Reporter this morning, firefighters battled flames in downtown ventura. Multiple homes were on firer in city hall. The Los Angeles Times reports that one firefighter was injured and theres no information on the nature of his injury. It could be several days before power can be restored. One death is attributed to the thomas fire. Officials say a person died in a rollover Automobile Accident while trying to evacuate. Fire Officials Say the strong winds and heavy smoke made it impossible to fight the fire from the air with helicopters and planes today. They hope to begin air drops this morning but that will depend on the wealth conditions. Hopefully, everybody made it out safely. Well stay on top of the story. In the meantime, governor jerry brown is talking about the north bay wildfires. And hes considering ways to improve the Emergency Alert system. At a hearing in the State Capitol yesterday, the director of the office of Emergency Services announced the governor wants to implement a statewide standard for how people are informed of emergencies. The upgrade would establish minimum standards. During the north bay fires, people complained that the Emergency Alert system did not give them adequate warning. We need to have backup systems. If the ones that seem to be the best for whatever reasons fail or are out of service we need to make sure that we can give people notice so they can evacuate. Refuse the Governors Office told the l. A. Times that the effort to upgrade the alert system would likely cost several million dollars. And well learn more when the governor unveils his budget next month. Search crews in marin county will be searching today. Tyler silva went missing while hiking with his girlfriend. He was last seen near the pirates cove trail that runs along the cliffs above the ocean in the golden gate recreational area. He went off the trail and his girlfriend did not follow. She reported him missing at 3 30. The cliff area is the last place he was sighted. And the cliffs are steep and dangerous. And we have king tides right now. The possibility of being swept out certainly thats a primary concern. At this point, investigators dont know if silva fell but we may be stuck in part of the cliffs mar hard to get to. A man suspected of firing into his neighbors home has been charged with attempted murder. Arturo dominguez is accused of opening fire with a rifle similar to an ak47. The bullets hit william haggertys home. He was home but not hurt. Dominguez had a grudge against his neighbor. Lawyers for the man acquitted of killing kate steinle will ask a judge to throw out the gun charge against him. Theyll ask for dismissal of the charge next thursday. A jury acquitted him of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and assault with a Deadly Weapon for the 2015 shooting death of stein lee. But they convicted him of being a felon in possession of a gun. He said he found the gun under a bench and it accidently fired when he picked it up to look at it. An investigation was launched after female immigrant detainees were denied access to bathrooms and proper healthcare while at that facility in the east bay. The investigation should be finished by the military of the month middle of the month. The center holds about 300 detainees. The Municipal Transportation Agency will vote on making a change to how the city charges for meters. The fee around the city fluctuates. Prices are based on how Strong Demand is for the meters. The mta will vote to expand that to all the meters in the city. And supporters of the idea say that surge pricing cuts down on how long people spend looking for parking. And that could increase turnover at parking meters. Surge parking is already in place at all of the parking garages. Theres a commuter alert. We have 20 minutes until sunrise, no fog to speak of. It has to do with all the wind. A little bit longer for the hills. The National Weather service has allowed the wind advisory for the hills to expire. And everyone though we do have a bit of a breeze out there. And gusty in a few areas, Half Moon Bay, fairfield, reporting gusty conditions. Not as bad as yesterday. And well be improving as we get into the afternoon. So thats good news as well. In Southern California where they have a red flag warning in place, it will go all the way until friday about midnight is when they expect it to expire. A high wind warning as well as very dry, gusty conditions and gusts to about 60 Miles Per Hour. Look how widespread from Ventura County all the way to san diego. And its just very dry and gusty. Some isolated winds could reach closer to 70 or 80 Miles Per Hour. The fire burning in the santa paula area which is north. Theres highway 101. And santa paula is closer to 126. The residents moved in yesterday. The sheds sit on an empty lot between the 980 and 880 freeways in oakland. They will be used to house two people. There is no electricity, no insulation or heat but there are Battery Powered lanterns, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers and an onsite 24 hour security along with regular access to social services. This is a stopover on the way to permanent housing. A way to figure out what theyre eligible for and find out the best path towards permanent housing for them. City administrators there are rules to follow in order to keep living at the slight. They include overnight visitors are not allowed. And onsite security will be able to monitor everybody who comes and goes. In the meantime in san jose, city officials are considering tiny home villages. They were designed pro bono by architects. They are about 70 square feet. The city is estimating they will cost up to 90,000 each to build. Now, next week city officials will consider almost 40 locations where the villages can be placed. Some are industrial. Many are provided by caltrans, bta and the water district. Some san jose residents are saying huhuh, not in my backyard. Theres no question that finding the site is the critical challenge. But it is important for folks to have a visual, to understand what it looks like.
