Traffic is moving well in the east bay including walnut creek, 680, 24 and highway 4, bay point. Its been a long wait but later today, bart roll out the first of its brandnew train cars. Reporter unfortunately not but maybe if you ride bart on your trip home this afternoon, maybe you will be riding on one of these new cards. This is a milestone day for bart. Its a long time coming. Were a lot of delays trying to get these new train cars up and running. In a few hours, 10 of these new bart cars will begin carrying passengers for the first time. Here is video of some of those cars sitting at the maintenance yard yesterday. A couple days ago, on wednesday, the California PublicUtilities Commission vinyl he gave bart the green light to go ahead with the new trains. Originally bart plan to roll out the new trains last november but they failed a safety test. There were problems that had to be fixed. Bart riders say they are ready for a new generation of train cars. It feels funny being in the tech hub of the world and we have this araic transportation system. Bart is a critical part of the bay area. The better it can be, the better the bay area will be. Reporter these new cars rolling out today will have fewer seats and more standing room for passengers. They also have three doors on each side as opposed to two. That should help get passengers on and off those trains were quickly. Bart has ordered 775 of these new cars which we put into service over the next several years. The first round of cars, 10 new cars will start carrying passengers at 11 am. When you get to the bay bridge there is another 1520 minute delay getting onto the span. There have been no problems on interstate 880 north and southbound. One Oakland Hills neighborhood is drying out after a car hit a fire hydrant last night and flooded the area. We are on buckingham boulevard. You can see there are barricades in the road. The roadway is shut down at this hour, covered with a thick layer of mud. We are actually downslope from where that hydrant was sheared off overnight. You can see water percolating down the driveway. We are essentially in the middle of the debris field left over after the hydrant was sheared off. We managed to make it up to the hydrant in the last halfhour. Theres not much to see their, some east bay m. U. D. Barricades. Little to indicate the muddy mess it left behind. This started with a car crash and ended with water pouring down the hill and flooding the area. A woman was driving last night around 7 00 near marlborough terrace and norfolk road and hit the hydrant. That sent water rushing downhill, flooding a home. East bay m. U. D. Said because the car wound up on top of the hydrant, that made it hard for crews to turn the water off. It took workers about two hours to clear the car and turned the water off, much too late for People Living downhill. All the sudden i hear a loud rush of water. I go to look at my backyard and all the water started flooding. Eventually there was so much mud and corrosion that came up, it lifted the bathroom tub in my master bathroom. Reporter you get a sense of how powerful that water was if it was able to lift the top up. We do have cellphone video from inside the damaged home. You can see the damage the flood cost. East bay m. U. D. Said the ground was already saturated from overnight rain and the water caused a lot of erosion and created what appears to be a sinkhole in the area. To see who will be responsible for clearing this off the roadway and making sure the roadway is once again possible. We understand the woman in the car was taken to an area hospital. Prosecutors accuse them of starving and chaining their children as punishment. Prosecutors say this abuse dates back several years. Parents david and Louise Turpin had their First Court Appearance on thursday. They pleaded not guilty to a host of offensive including tortures, child abuse and also imprisonment. Officials say the couple used ropes and eventually chains to shackled the kids to furniture, locking the kids up and other physical abuse or forms of punishment for what the tuines saw as misbehavior such as bathing. State lawmakers introduced a new bill that would give californians three years to file complaints with the state department of fair employment and housing over Sexual Harassment and discrimination. The current law gives californians one year from the date of harassment to file a complaint. Lawmakers who introduced the bill say often people are not aware they have a limited time line to file a discrimination or harassment claim. The proposed legislation is one of many steps taken by lawmakers recently to address the issue of Sexual Harassment. The san leandro city manager is facing misconduct investigations. The director of a Nonprofit Organization accused him of Sexual Harassment. Rose padilla johnson, the ceo of the data street Human Resource center filed a formal complaint against the city manager, chris zapata. Ms. Johnson claims as a pot of made repeated romantic advances and behaved in a properly and what was supposed to be professional meetings. In a letter sent to the board of the davis street Family Resource center, is a potter denied any wrongdoing. Seven managers at an oakland restaurant i threatened to quit this weekend if the owner does not separate himself from the company. This is in response to Sexual Harassment allegations made against the owner charlie hallowell. He owns three restaurants in oakland including boot and shoe service on grant avenuewhere a group of managers and chefs say they mresign in protest tomorrow. At least 17 former female employees have accused him of Sexual Harassment. Last month hallowell admitted to misconduct and apologized but the manager said as long as he is making money from the restaurant they cannot be there. It feels necessary and it feels empowering to be taking back some measure of control. We are trying to hear them out but its not something that can be done overnight. Hallowell is no longer running the daytoday operations of the restaurant but is still a primary stakeholder in the company. Staff at his other two restaurants are not threatening to resign at this point. Next tuesday a 22yearold army private from San Francisco will be buried with full military honors almost 70 years after he went missing in battle during the korean war. The family of private first class James Leonard junior finally received confirmation that his remains and belongs were found last spring by a construction crew and south korea. Leonard died in july 1950, killed in a battle within five days of arriving in south korea. He attended Polytechnic High School in San Francisco. He ran track and played the trumpet. His family is grateful the u. S. Army and south korean officials took good care of his remains. Police in salinas are asking for help to identify a bank robbery suspect. He robbed a Central Coast credit do you knowon at 10 credit union at 10 00 yesterday. He demanded money after pulling out a gun. If you have any information on the suspect, call salinas police. Five men were arrested by San Jose Police accused of small breakins at super stores. They were called the lucky lotto bandits because they would steal lottery tickets along with cash and cigarettes at convenience stores. Ucla is banning alcohol from l of e frat house events after a woman says she was sexually assaulted at an off campus party. The Council Passed the ban earlier this week. It is an indefinite ban. It comes days after a former fraternity president was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape. The council didnt say if it was connected to the rape but they want to ensure the safety and well being of people at fraternity activities. I think it is a good activity. Theres been some incidents of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment that i have heard from my friends. I think Sexual Assault is awful. If this is a punishment for that, it is justified. Universities around the country have been putting similar restrictions in place to reign in drinking by students. At ucla, the Campus PoliceDepartment Says reports of Sexual Assaults have gone up over the last academic year. A former Womens Basketball player at cal says she was sexually assaulted by an employee of the athletic department. Calerndon was at call from 2009 to 2013 and now plays for the atlanta dream. She says she was sexually assaulted by the assistant director of athletic services. He is named as a defendant in the lawsuit. And the uc regents are accused of negligence. The university is reviewing the allegations and muqtar has been placed on paid leave. Calerndon says, quote, i want the shame noto be my ow not my shame to carry. Last night, parents and teachers clashed with Board Members in san jose at a heated meeting at the alan rock school board. Critics accusing the board of inappropriate spending of bond money. Del terra is under investigation after a state audit that was critical of the company. We think they have been stealing money from the district.
