That is to take a look at what is going on tomorrow across the country, a lot of folks traveling these days. You can see where the heat is down by eastern and western texas. This is the forecast for tomorrow is you are looking at pretty high heat from atlanta all the way back in through dallas and into phoenix. The Southern Tier states are baking up in this area there is a low Pressure Center up in here and that is one of the reasons the temperature today and tomorrow have cooled off a bit. This low is just close enough to us to create a little bit of left lift. That is allowing the font to get deep, we are seeing fog or the marine layer if you will, up to 2000 feet. That means it is getting in over the coastal hill significantly and here is where it is now. You can see fog all the way into San Francisco shooting across. It is stuck at the gate right now but it will work its way there soon enough. The marine layer will do the same thing it did this morning which was pushed far inland and then burn off. Temperatures today generally in the 80s, temperatures tomorrow generally in the 80s but mid to low 80s. The rest of us coastal sections are 50s and low 60s so definitely a cooler pattern today and tomorrow. Then, it flips, temperatures start to warm me drastically. We will see temperatures, not heat advisories or warnings for temperatures will warm up to the point we will get back into the 90s as we head towards the bay area weekend. With that said let us look at the numbers, there they are now. Again this is i will show you how much cooler it was, these are the current temperatures, 77 in san jose and they are running, while five degrees behind yesterday, concord is a degrees and we do this map again tomorrow we will lose another couple three degrees and then he goes the other way. We are doing this roller coaster. We are in the trough and not going up into the steep part of the grade as we get into the bay area weekend. Governor newsom is apologizing to native americans on californias behalf for violence and mistreatment inflicted on Indigenous People in the past. The governor met with tribal leaders yesterday and announced the formation of a new commission called the truth and healing counsel. That counsel will allow native americans to clarify the historical record of the states violence against them. For more on the governors executive order we are joined alive by California Assembly member james ramos who was the first california native american elected to our states legislature. We appreciate you coming on today. How significant of a step is this . This is a real significant step. For the first time in californias history we visiting governor recognizing the atrocities and it basically genocide and extermination policies against the california Indigenous People. This is significant because now it will allow lawmakers, such as myself to start to push legislation that recognizes those areas and also starts to bring the true history of the state of california. And, it is treatment towards californias first people to the forefront of issues. What do you think this apology means to californias native American Community . I imagine you have misty speaking with some of your constituents, what does this mean to them . It means a lot. For years in my own area, in our area in 1866 there was a 32 day battle that took place. Really, a militia was formed in the San Bernardino valley to go into the San Bernardino mountains and rid the mountains of all indian people there. It was there that our lamb clan. Dwindled to less than 30 members, so that way of life changed. For years we would talk about that in schools, and talk about that with committee members. Yet, some did not truly believe that those atrocities happened here in the state of california. Where, in history books and books that were being taught in the School System were talking about tribes which had a lot of history there, but the trail of tears that took place in other parts of the United States. But we are talking about history towards california Indigenous People were extermination policies were taken out, where militias were formed and paid by the state to go out there and read the mountains of indian people. So, this moving forward starts to now, from the top administration, from the governor, to acknowledge those atrocities that happened, it validates and really continues to move forward, speaking on behalf of the indian people, it is, at a time to where now we can start to move forward and begin the healing process. Reporter obviously an apology like this, a formal apology is one thing you must be looking for, you want to see action moving forward. What do you hope will be done from the states perspective to improve the lives of californians native native American Communities . So looking at the histories facing the california people, there are recognized tribes in the state of california. However, there is also california indian people that during the history of the state of california have been left out of the discussion. Those tribal people, and ancestral territories throughout the state of california, los angeles, San Francisco, that is ancestral territory of indian people. It is time we get that history starting to be taught in the local School Systems. One thing that continues to be a debate is the missionary system. When we talk about the missionaries in the state of california. But, yet, and now with this executive order we are going to be able to tell the perspective from the Indian Perspective on what happened and how indian people were taken into those missions to basically be indentured slavery to build those missions and what happened during that time. Depth reporter do you think this should, this formal apology from the governor is it your hope that this might lead to the state committing more money to help native American Communities here in california . Many of which are struggling with poverty and other issues . I believe now with this executive order moving forward, it brings all of that into the forefront. The forefront of being able to look at Public Safety on indian reservations. Education and Educational Attainment and one that is really a big area that is out there is missing and murdered Indigenous Women in the state of california. Missing and murdered Indigenous Women in this case is going unsolved starts to bring those discussions to the forefront. And to the level that needs to be heard. At the governors level, the attorney generals level and, being able to have the state legislature move forward on resolutions and bills that start to bring into account those areas that are important to the native american people. Do you think it took too long for this formal apology from the state of california to come . I think a lot of things have a way of working themselves forward. Certainly in 2018 i became the first california indian ever elected to the state legislature. And some say that is a great accomplishment. But one would ask why did it take so long . And, the governor, this governor moving forward, on his own to bring forward an apology from the state of california starts to show where we are at with in our diversity, where we are at within the acceptance of culture and where we are at with telling the truth of history of the state of california. So, some will say it took too long to get to this point but this governor moved forward on it so now the question should be where will we be in the next few months, where will we be in the next year, where will we be in the next five years to make sure that this topic does not to go back and be forgotten about. Reporter we had to leave the conversation there. I really appreciate your time that is Assemblyman James Ramos from Southern California. Thank you for yours perspective thank you so much. The california almond industry feeling the pain of the trade war, india impose a new tax on 28 different items including all mens which is one of our states leading exports. In fact, india buys mac with and half the almonds the california ships globally. Joining me now to talk more about the effects of the tariffs is julie adams she is the Vice President of Global Technical regulatory and Government Affairs at the almond board of california. Thank you for being here. How big of a hit is this . It is a significant market for california almond. We have seen exports this year increase about 10 over last year. And that is largely because of the affinity indians have for almonds in general. The health and nutritional aspects. So, it is really a concern when we see tariffs increasing anywhere in the world and particularly a market like india which is, this year, our largest largest export destination. What kind of import were the woolly tariffs have on growers . We are seeing the tariff increase is going from about the equivalent of . 23 per pound to 27 cents per pound. About a 17 increase on in shell almonds. And, i think the biggest concern we have is that with the ongoing trade situation in china, india has actually been absorbing a lot of the almonds that might have otherwise gone to china. So because of that, you hate to see disruptions in the market but particularly in a country like india that has been so important in helping us offset the impact in china. Right, so you sort of dealing with it from two different angles, from china and in india. So what is next for almonds growers and how do they get through the times with these tariffs . Sure, well one thing about the almond industry i do have to say is that they take a long term view. And you plant an orchard it will be in place for 25 years. So you really have to plan for both the ups and downs in the market. Exports are 70 of what we produce. We are shipping to more than 100 countries. So, for us, china and india are significant, as are many of our countries. But what we are seeing is that the United States has been growing. We have seen a lot of new products coming into play in other markets as well. I say what growers are doing is really trying to take that long term of you. And, obviously, this focus is really hoping that we will see resolution sooner rather than later so we can get back to focusing on the positive story and the health and nutrition and including almonds as a part of your daily life. What will this do to the price of all mens, let us say in california, in the states . That is going to be something that we will have to wait and see. We have a large crop coming on this next year. We are expecting it to be up compared to the past year or so. We are going to have a lot of almonds we need to move into the market. So it will really depend on the contracts and commitments that are already in place going into that new crop. It is hard to really determine what the impact will be of a one market change. Julie adams of the almond board of california. Thanks for taking the time, appreciate it. I am a big fan of almonds, can i say that . Yeah. I grew up in the valley of paradise and the chico folks, a lot of almonds up there but what do they call them . Almonds or amonds. Do they really . I do know there was a difference. All the local farmers call them amonds. In texas we say almonds. You say almonds . I dont know ill say almonds would be good on the chico, play them in football and they would say that. Got it, how is the weather . We would make fun of them too. So the weather is good, the weather there the fog out there is behind me hanging up the coast and we are heading for a day tomorrow a lot today but slightly cooler. They temperatures were cooler. We are splitting hairs though because there is not a lot of big changes. It is all subtle stuff. Along the coast and around the bay and in most of our inland bay valleys where the temperatures drop a few degrees. Look at the fog in San Francisco. It has been that on and off all day although heather says there was no fog at her house this morning. There is a little foggy there now. The fog will continue to do what it did last night which made a big push inland. There are the current temperatures. You can see 86 in fairfield, that is warm, very warm but it is not, fairfield the sum of the year i would not call that hot. It is five degrees cooler in fairfield there is are cooling today and tomorrow we will cool again. That is the plan. The next two days cooler, next three days after that warmer. Beautiful day at the airport, you can see the marine layer, that is the top of the inversion right where the fog meets the blue sky. So that is, 1800 foot, Something Like that i am estimating but the profile showed 1800 feet earlier today in monterey. Thats about the depth of the inversion indicating how much push the fog will have tomorrow morning which means a lot. That is about where it was last night. After that the inversion shrinks down. There will not be as much inland push of fog and temperatures will warm as we head into friday, saturday and sunday. So tomorrow morning, low clouds, some possible fog in San Francisco, certainly in the morning hours. By lunch time it clears off. You are 62 degrees and then 66 for a daytime high. But plenty of words, just because San Francisco downtown 66 does not mean that by Mission Dolores youre not 68 or 69. Like i said, microclimate abound. Even in separate cisco probably there is easy 20 microclimate in San Francisco, can you believe that . So the forecast ties, we always talk of microclimates and the big climates, the coast, bay and inland there are little nuggets all over the place, depending upon the user geographically and how close to the bay and how close to an urban area and blah, blah, blah. 82 in milpitas. Sometimes we do temperatures that is not what i had in my house. That is because your neighborhood or house you may be under a group of redwood trees so your temperatures might be adjusted accordingly because of your environment. There is a five day forecast, it will be a nice week ahead. Just subtle stuff, it really is. Looks good. A familyrun record store in the sacramento area is getting ready to close its doors.
