A little bit of cloud cover coming down out of the northwest but it is a dryer air moving in. There is another system which will be here tomorrow and i think we will get a little rain out of this. There will be some mountain snow. Todays, 40s, 50s, mostly sunny skies, the breeze will pick up a little bit later and we have another system on tap for tomorrow. 60s 70s mostly on the temperatures today. We will focus now on san jose. We do have a problem where it is going to affect a lot of people that would be northbound 101 near 13th street, there is a crash blocking two lanes. 101, this is very slow traffic on northbound 101 because of the crash near 13th which is right there in the middle of your screen. Northbound 101. The traffic here is backed up. Is backed up beyond the 280 interchange. There being held back in sunnyvale so you might want to get on the road before they get there. Peninsula traffic is okay and the east bay commute is much better than it was yesterday. There is slowing in haywood and union city. At the bay bridge we do have traffic that is light. I just want to remind you that highway for traffic is very slow because of earlier issues getting up the highway 24. By the time you reach the toll plaza things have evened up. 7 03. It is the first time President Trump is coming to the bay area since he became president. Reporter yes we know the please departments of palo alto, Mountain View have been informed of the president s visit so we know his fundraising legend happening somewhere in this area on the peninsula. This is part of palo alto and right next to the field is alpine road. This is where a group of protesters believe the motorcade is going to be coming through. Former Campaign Manager expected to appear in front of the committee to face questions about the special counsels report on russian interference but the white house says there are some things she cannot talk about. It happened sunday night in the raccoon straits between tiburon and angel island. Investigators believe what the mexican developer was driving his boat intoxicated. He may have hit a swell that sent his 11yearold son and his 27yearold son overboard after they were pulled out of the water, they were taken to the Corinthian Yacht Club in tiburon. Tiburon Police Believe both of the brothers were hit by the bow as the dad was trying to get them out of the water. The 11yearold was killed. The older brother was treated for cuts on his legs. He was later arrested at his home in belvedere and is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter. It is a tragedy. I mean we are all heartsick about this. It is something that is every parents worst nightmare. The community is shock. It is a traumatic event not only for individuals but for the community. He was later released on 1 million bail. Happening now Kaiser Mental Health workers are on the bike at one this morning. They are on strike after contract talks hit a standstill. We are at kaiser headquarters. Sara. Now this group here at the Regional Offices at kaisers small but they are very passionate and trying to get their voices heard. These Kaiser Mental Health workers are in strike and say there is no way they will accept the contract the way it is. Today is the deadline to accept this Contract Offered by kaiser. Workers say kaiser gave them an ultimatum to either accept the offer or lose their 3 raise retroactive to last october. They say if this was about money and they would have accepted the contract but it is about giving patients better access to Mental Health services and giving clinicians more time to do their work. They are asking kaiser executives to head back to the bargaining table to try to come up with a better solution. We spoke to dr. Here who says the current contract is the same as what kaiser offered in june. 92 of workers rejected that one. Simply put, those participating this is about saving lives. I have somebody who is you know acutely depressed. And suicidal and i cannot see them for another month. That increases the risk of suicide and i am then forced to book them into a time where either i am unpaid or i do not have time to see patients meaning that i cannot do my charting, i cannot respond to patient phone calls, i cannot respond to patient emails because im seeing this person in order to save their life. Lawyers for pg e will be back in court today amid claims that pg e did not trim thousands of trees that were near power lines. Those trees are a fire danger and a monitor says there are recordkeeping programs. Problems. Meantime victims of the 2017 tubs fire in santa rosa will have a chance to try to persuade a jury that pg e is to blame for it. The superior court judge ruled yesterday that 18 plaintiffs can go to trial. They will be arguing that pg es powerline started the tubs fire. Cal fire says it was caused by a privately owned electrical system near calistoga. That trial is expected to begin january 7th. People in lafayette say they are worried about a 40 foot section of pg e gas line that is exposed to the elements. The pipeline runs along the buckeye ridge trail. Now a top fire official is getting involved. The 12 inch pipeline is a key part of the infrastructure that serves several east bay cities. Some residents including one couple who sits on the citys gas Safety Task Force says the pipeline is badly maintained and called it a ticking time bomb. We want to figure out what are the ways you can mitigate this whether it is chopping down the trees, burying the pipeline, doing something that addresses the safety issues. If youre driving haywood to fremont is slow. 680 is better than yesterday which is saying a lot. This is northbound 101, we still have slow traffic because of an earlier crash. To edit a san jose that traffic looks okay. Lets go back to the desk. A second person from right here in california has died after using ecigarettes. This comes as gavin newsom is beginning an aggressive new Campaign Warning about the dangers of vaping. Candice nguyen joins us in the studio. He knows this crisis is affecting not only adults but teenagers another california has seen its second that possibly related to vaping, he knows something must be done. Hundreds of people have already gotten sick and seven have died across the country. The latest death in california was reported from the Central Valley yesterday with the Health Department saying the person died of a long illness associated with vaping. Governor newsoms executive order will cut down on vaping products and increase the warning labels on packaging. He is also launching an Awareness Campaign about the dangers of vaping nicotine and cannabis products. He wants to keep the products out of the hands of kids we have seen a sky rocket increase in the use of these flavored products by our children and vaping products are now being seen not just in High School Campuses but increasingly and middle school campuses. Newsom is also exploring ways to change how ecigarettes are taxed in an effort to make the products more expensive and harder for teens to buy. The cdc has reported that california has seen at least 63 cases that may be added to the more than 300 cases nationwide. Spoke to foxs medical team and says symptoms appear gradually, chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea and even vomiting. We are having people going into respiratory failure where they require mechanical ventilation in a hospital in an intensive care unit. It is very frightening for some of these people because they are getting quite ill and we are not exactly sure why. The American Medical Association is urging people to stop using ecigarette products intel a cause has been discovered. Newsom says he does not have the authority to enact an out raid bond on ecigarettes but it is something he would like to see in legislation next year Emergency Response center. Tiffany lee is charged in the 2016 shooting death of tiffany lees exboyfriend the father of her two children. Prosecutors say he will not take the witness stand and they are revoking his plea deal. One of the bay area teenagers being held in connection with the killing of an italian Police Officer in italy back in july will stay behind bars. Lawyers for him dropped a request for their client to be released. The lawyers say they need more time to study new evidence. He and his friend were accused of fatally stabbing a plainclothes Police Officer in italy during a drug deal in rome. The Pleasant Hill reverse course after Community Outcry closing a library. The library is the main library in the system in the siri had backed the plan to shut it down at the end of the school year and build the new library across the street. However, the new library may not be open until late 2021. People who use the library were upset when they realized under this plan, they could be without it services for as long as two years. We rely on the city to give libraries to us. We pay taxes of Library Service of the fact they are closing it and leasing us with nothing doesnt make any sense. I would like for them to keep the old library open until the new one is built and then i will be happy to bring my friends and family and help them move into the new place. The city council now says it wants to keep the main library open until its replacement is ready. But the library of the land it sits on belong to the county so it is up to the city and citizens to see if they can get county officials to sign off on this new timeline. Time is 7 37. Wattle services in Pleasant Hill should be back after a water main burst. Officials say a 50yearold cast iron pipe broke just after 7 00 last night 14 customers who live near Pleasant Hill road and gregory lane lost their water. Crews were out there most of the night trying to fix the pipe and get the water back to those customers a final vote expected by the San Francisco board of supervisors with plans to transfer to a parking lot into a safe parking site for People Living in rvs with spaces out there for 30 vehicles to park overnight for up to 90 days. It will have bathrooms, showers , case managers and also round theclock security. The vote today is considered a formality, the board unanimously approved this project last week a new report on traffic collisions in San Francisco shows more pedestrians are being seriously hurt then years passed. I did not know cokie well but she was a brilliant journalist and really old school and i mean that in the most positive way. She took her job very seriously, she was meticulous when it came to her research. When cokie reported on a story, you do that she had done her work and she was an incredibly gracious woman. I am 65 so im a little bit younger than she was and she was one of those those women, and there were not many of them back then, inthe business so i really admired and looked up to. I hoped that i can do half as good a job as she did. It is tremendous loss and im so sorry to hear that. I did not know until you told me. Im sorry to be the one to break the news, i appreciate your thoughts. Lets talk about this new project. You have done just about everything there is to do on television. Why go to a game ow now . Well, i love game shows, i hosted millionaire for 11 years when it was in syndication so i sort of know the ropes. This show just really appealed to me. The game very much appealed to me. The folks behind it are all wonderful wonderful folks to work with. I thought this is a great opportunity to play in a fun sandbox with some people i admire and enjoy their work and hey, i get to give away money to folks who im sure could use it. There is no downside to this. This is something that is unique in television, it is a fresh game, this is not reboot, this is not a rehash, it is completely new. Yeah it is a boardgame that goes back years. Ive never heard of it but Mary Mccormick used to play the game with her family i believe in michigan. She brought it to l. A. I think after yesterday people will take that. Lets start by look at the east bay commute. Bay bridge has been largely unaffected by any major problems, we had a couple minor things and it was backed up for about a 20 minute delay. Were getting closer to 8 00 and that means slow traffic heading up north heading into downtown oakland, San Francisco. Highway four and 680s still very slow. Unfortunately if that is your commute you need extra time. 880 is slow heading into fremont. No problems on northbound 101 anymore but it did have an earlier crash and that is why it has been slow. 7 48. Steve back in. Mostly sunny today but we are in between sit homes. Another one will drop in tomorrow , that is pretty impressive already up in the Pacific Northwest giving them rain. Theres a lot more colder air with the system and it does look like the track will be a little bit more towards the northern Sacramento Valley and the sierras. I think we will get some rain out of it in the morning. We are running cooler than 24 hours ago. Upper 20s, heavenly 28 south tahoe 29 degrees. Incline was 28 lots of 30s as well. Not much of a breeze but it will pick up a little bit later. It will still be nice. Temperatures not too shabby for this time of year.
