More than 12,000 people in the city have been tested and 12 have tested positive. Happening today, the World Health Organization is announcing a landmark collaboration in the fight against the coronavirus. The World Health Organization wants to make Technology Accessible to everyone around the world. The organization is working with nonprofits like the Gates Foundation and global fund, speeding up the development of tests and vaccines against covid19. The race is onto develop a vaccine for covid19. Yesterday two Healthy People were injected with an experimental shot, the first of more than 800 volunteers recruited for the study. Half will receive the real vaccine. The other half will be given a control vaccine that protects against meningitis but not the coronavirus. We have to test it. Of course we have to get the data from humans. With the use of technology to make lots of different vaccines, though, we have done quite a number of what we call challenge studies using animals. The trial will likely last about a year. Researchers say they could know within a few months if a vaccine is viable. That depends how many cases occur in the uk in the months ahead. Wear that mask in places that require face coverings, even while bike or hiking. People should only go to parks that are open and follow the rules, and continue to practice physical and social distancing. People want to go to the playgrounds and parks and i think there will be a significant increase in volume. In san mateo county, people are restricted from traveling more than five miles from their home for recreation. Anything you do outside should be in your own neighborhood. The east Bay Regional Park District has a 74person team to oversee all 73 parks, and they will be using a helicopter this weekend to check on those parks and make sure people are not picnicking or playing sports in groups, anding away from crowds. The state has now cleared their backlog of covid19 tests, which reached 60,000 earlier this month. Some waited nearly two weeks for test results, which slowed down treatment. And the governor is trying to find more people who may have died from covid19. All counties across the country across the state have been ordered to review their death records dating back to december to check for those who died of respiratory or undetermined causes. The virus can remain in blood samples for months or even years. Rna viruses are normally stable in a regular freezer for at least two months. If its stored in a minus80 degree freezer, which is one of the standard freezers we use in the lab, it can be stored for three years and you can still detect the rna. Medical examiners in contra costa and marin counties say they have already started the process of reviewing their older death records. We are learning more information about the san josc woman whos believed to be the first person in the country to die of the coronavirus. Medical Authorities Say trish dowd was 57 years old when she died february 6th, 12 days earlier than the previously reported earliest fatal case in the United States. She was known as trish to her coworkers in the south bay. Trish was warm, engaging, friendly. She was a great teammate, both at lam and even after work. She was one of those people you liked to be around. Family members say she became sick in late january with flulike symptoms and died a short time later while working from home. City leaders in San Francisco are trying to get answers after four people at an assisted living facility in the city died from coronavirus. The supervisor confirmed to ktvu that four patients at Central Gardens convasless sent hospital on ella street, the same facility where 67 people have people have tested positive. We have been pounding on the virtual door of the department of Public Health to get more information, and have been frustrated so far with no getting more. Ktvu also reached out to the department of Public Health but the agency turned down our request for an interview. A nursing home in oakland is reporting a deadly outbreak. An administrator at the excel Health Care Center on high street says three patients there have died, and 36 residents have tested positive. The center is now isolating and treating infected residents. Happening today, about an hour from now, President Trump is set to sign the latest round of federal economic help for Small Businesses into law during a white house ceremony. The house passed the nearly 500 billion measure yesterday. The vote took longer than normal because they voted in eight different groups to keep social distancing rules ct a new poll shows three out of four californians believe shelterinplace orders should stay in place. They found strong support across all demographic groups in favor of the ongoing orders despite the economic fallout. In the state of georgia, some nonessential businesses are now open for the first time in three weeks. Georgias governor actually broke away from President Trump on this and is now allowing gyms, hair salons, bowling alleys and tattoo parlors to reopen. Theaters and restaurants will be opening up on monday. These businesses must follow social distancing guidelines. President trump announced this week that georgia was opening too soon and he disagreed with georgias governor. Governor newsom is being sued for providing Financial Aid to unemployed undocumented immigrant. The center for american liberty filed a petition to block the governors program which would provide 500 to each undocumented immigrant whos not working because of the pandemic. Last week the governor announced 125 million in aid would be provided to these undocumented workers. The lawsuit claims the program violates state and federal law because undocumented immigrants are not eligible for Unemployment Benefits. We are watching Gilead Sciences this morning after shores dropped almost 4 yesterday. A drug being tested in china didnt help with cases of the coronavirus. The company said the study showed a potential benefit for coronavirus patients who were given the drug early on during their infection. Governor newsom has good news for the hundreds of thousands of californians who continue to struggle with student loan debt, saying most of the states largest private Loan Services have agreed to hold off payments for 90 days. That would help millions during the Public Health and economic crisis. No impact to their credit rating, no late fees or fines, and actually support in terms of getting new payment plans in place for future processing.
