It is already used to fight inflammation in people with gout. It is inexpensive, readavailabl pain and swelling and the trial is looking to see if it can help prevent damage to the heart, brain and kidneys in patients with covid19. This studdie will help flow enroll over the next three to four months. We are looking at the ability of this oral medication to prevent individuals from having to go to the hospital or needing mechanical ventilation and to help them living longer. So i think the next steps are to this medication, if the Clinical Trial shows a benefit, is to really try to implement this on a wide scale global level. And what is unique about this study design, also this intervention, is that it can be implemented even in Resource Limited settings. So it is an oral medication and this is in contrast to things like remdesivir which are the antivirals that require iv infusion over several hours. So that is something that usually is going to require much more monitoring than an oral medication. The study is actually based out of canada and they have staff looking for patients here and looking for patient to sign up in new york. They are looking for people over the age of 40 with preexisting conditions of thing like diabetes, heart disease, participants would need to start taking medication within 48 hours of getting a positive test so it all must happen pretty quickly.
