People marched in the downtown area with signs and gathered on the grass in front of the Danville Library to hear speakers. The cultural level of racism is also pervasive in our society. Its great that we have signs and we are out here. But to deal with the institutional and cultural and interpersonal levels we have to do a lot more than that. Danville police were out for todays event but there were no problems or arrests. The west contra costa unified School District has ended its contracts with local police agencies. The school board voted unanimously to use the 1 1 2 Million Dollars to support africanamerican students instead. The boards president says the district is moving toward a more supportive and restorative model that protects students from the threat of Police Surveillance and violence. The district says African Americans make up 18 of its student population. Down to berkeley where the school board has agreed to rename two Elementary Schools. Both jefferson and washington Elementary Schools will be renamed under a resolution in support of black lives matter. Black lives matter protests are not showing any signs of slowing down, even in countries around the globe. This was the scene in sc roselle today where thousand show their support for the movement. They march through the city with messages in portuguese. Reporter demonstrations around the world continued this weekend in support of the americanled black lives Matter Movement. Today protesters marched through the streets of tokyo carrying signs that said we will breathe and no justice no peace. The demonstration remained peaceful as hundreds called for accountability in the case of george floyd. Similar scenes unfolded this morning in new zealand when people chanted what do we want, justice, when do we want it, now. New zealand also faces problems with Race Relations during police interactions. Now to europe, on saturday clashes erupted when a far right group confronted a black lives matter group of protesters. Some violence also occurred in france on saturday as police hired tear grass at antiracism protesters in the streets of paris. An estimated 15,000 people were at the protest that also called for justice in the case of a black french man that died in Police Custody back in 2016. The scenes around the world this weekend were similar in nature, thousands calling for justice in the case of george floyd and more accountability when it comes to racism and police forces. Volunteer medics are working to make sure injured protesters get the care they need. Protesters have been out at Cesar Chavez Park all day, holding signs, chanting and calling for justice. They are out here right now listening to speakers who are protesting police brutality. All the while a group of medics are watching to make sure if anyone needs medical help they are here to provide it. With an armored vest and bandages at the ready. We have our impact resistant helmets. I received my combat field medicine training. Hes part of a team of roughly 30 volunteers with varying forms of medical experience. Anywhere from people who work in the nicu to the rns in a trauma room. Stepping in during sacramentos protester provide emergency care. We all have a visceral need to help. We are not taking sides, we are here to provide unbiased care. Skills that are in high demand at these rallies. Honestly a lot of heat exhaustion. People are out here fighting, trying to get their voice heard, it is hot out here. And there is not a lot of water. In the evenings theyve seen protests turn dangerous, treating several serious injuries from rubber bullets and tear gas. And never thought in 1 million years i would have to wear ar 500 steel in my hometown and treat heavy trauma on my street. But thats just the reality we are in. A call they are more than willing to answer, putting themselves at risk for their neighbors. We dont know whats coming anymore, but we want to be here to help whoever needs it.
