Suspected altercation between a chopper and employee inside the store. I want to show you some video from the store where police were called there just before 10 00 p. M. For disturbances inside. They say a man got into a physical confrontation with the store employee. Police say 56yearold employee, caught the man trying to steal meat from behind the butcher shop area. When the employee confronted him, the suspected shopper attacked. They found the employee injured and found the 34yearold man unconscious, without a pulse. Officers began cpr, per medics pronounced him dead at the scene. They still have not determined why he stopped breathing. At this time its unclear if something happened during the fight, or if he had a medical emergency. I dont know. I know there was a physical disturbance, it may have been between the store employee and someone suspected of shoplifting, but i dont know police have not identified the person who died. New this morning, police in santa rosa are investigating a double shooting overnight. It happened about 12 30 this morning near sebastopol road in denton avenue. Police say they think as many as four got into a fight on the sidewalk. Two were hit with gunshots. Both were hit, hospitalized. A vote last night by the open school board to eliminate the School Police force happened at a Virtual School board meeting, on the heels all the protests around the country, and that vote was closely watched the community is happy right now. This is history in the making, whyall. Even the chief of the School District police force supports the decision, but says the hard part starts now. A new School Safety plan is needed before the end of this year. That plan is going to need counselors, Restorative Justice folks. Its going to need Behavioral Health people. If we do not hire those people and put them in the schools, we are kind of defeating the purpose of shutting down the Police Department, because theyre going to show up with the same problems we had. The chief says the current members of the School Police force and more than 50 security guards handle about 1000 calls districtwide every semester. About 300 of the calls are over sexual assault, robberies, and crimes that need immediate responses. The School Superintendent wants a new plan by the first of the year. And state education officials also reexamining having police on school campuses. Tony thurman, of public instruction, once a new task force to hold a hearing next week on School Safety. We have already seen data that shows in many cases, that when there are police on campus, this results in more suspensions or unrest of our students, and in particular, African American students and other students of color. This is conditions, it must be changed. This morning, investigation is underway in antioch, after a suspected shoplifter died after getting into a fight with a store employee. This happened at the lucky supermarket on control them away. This is the lucky supermarket in antioch on contra loma way. Officers were called just before 10 00 p. M. Last night for a report of a physical disturbance. When the officers arrived on scene, they found one subject, who was unconscious, did not have a pulse. The officers began during cpr on him until relieved by firefighters and paramedics. The paramedics eventually pronounced that person deceased onscene. Police say that a 56year old employee of the store confronted a man after seeing him try to steal meat from behind the butcher shop area. The suspected shoplifter and attacked the employee, and the two got into a fight. When police arrived, they found the employee injured. They found the 34yearold man unconscious, without a pulse. They do not know why he stopped breathing. The employee was injured and had to be transported to a hospital. Elissa, thank you. New this morning, Santa Rosa Police are investigating a double shooting that happened overnight. It started around 12 30 this morning. Police say they think as many as four men got into a fight on the sidewalk him and two of them were hit by gunfire. For hospitalized, and police are still looking for the other people involved. One school board voted to eliminate the Districts Police department, and it was closely watched by the oakland community. The community is [ bleep ] happy right now. This is history in the making, whyall. Even the chief of the School District police force supports the decision, but says the hard part starts now. A new School Safety plan is needed be for the end of the year. It is going to need Behavioral Health people. If we do not hire those people and put them in the schools, we are defeating the purpose of shutting the Police Department down, because they will show up to solve the same problems that we did. The chief says 10 members of the current School Police force, and more than 50 security guards handle about 1000 calls districtwide. About 300 calls are for sexual assaults, robberies, and other crimes that need immediate responses. The schowants a new plan by the first of the year. State education officials are also reexamining whether or not to have officers on school campuses. Tony thurman, the state superintendent of education, says he wants a new task force to hold a hearing next week on School Safety. We have already seen data that shows in many cases, when there are police on campus, this results in more suspensions, more arrests, of our students. In particular, africanamerican students, and other students of color. This is a condition that must be changed. Thurman says School Police may still be needed in cases where students are threatened, like bomb threats or shootings, but he says the police should not be involved in discipline issues. For new schools will have to offer some type of inperson live instruction, in order to receive state funding, next year. Governor newsom is expecting to sign a bill tied to his recent budget deal with the state legislature, that still allows for Remote Learning mixed with live interaction. The bill requires students to have access to necessary Distance Learning technology. According to a nonprofit journalism site with a focus on education, the state needs more than 7000 laptops, and 300,000 wifi spots. More troubling coronavirus milestones today. Governor gavin newsom will be holding another News Conference today. He has been warning californians about trends in the state and the surges, hospitalizations, and the rate of positive tests, rising to more than 5 in the past two weeks. Governor newsom was asked if the state needs to pause the reopening process. He calls for fines against violators. Those caught would first receive a warning, then a 100 fine for first offense, and a 500 fine for every additional offense. Firefighters are working to control a fire, called the diablo fire, flames broke out about midnight just west of interstate 5 at highway 130 near patterson. New this morning, Antioch Police are investigating a fight at a Grocery Store that turned deadly. It happened at the lucky store last night on contra loma boulevard just before 10 00 p. M. A 56yearold employee caught a man trying to steal meat from behind the butcher shop area and confronted the man. The employee says men attacked him but then during the fight and struggle, police say the suspect suddenly stopped breathing. Good morning, mike yes the message was clear, everyone should be wearing a mask in order to slow down a spike in trend in increasing cases across the state. More than 7000 confirmed cases are in california on tuesday, that is the most recent folding data from the state. The total number of cases statewide according to Johns Hopkins was more than 196,000 this morning. That is 5000 more than yesterday. Health officials warn not all numbers are due to testing. The positivity rate, the number of people who test positive for covid19 has gone up more than 5 over the past two weeks in california. Even in the bay area, it has been relatively stable in its number of cases, local Health Officials have noticed a troubling spike. The governor and other Health Officials say the increase is not entirely unexpected, as morgan out to socialize and return to work. And social distancing rules are relaxed. We not only reopen, not only reopen our economy, but we begin to reopen our households. And we begin to go back to our old ways and our old habits. The consequence is we are spreading this virus. That is why the governor stressed the need to wear masks, and he actually threatened to hold up to 2. 5 billion to, million, two state funding for noncompliance. The governor is instituting a onesizefitsall mandate, this time with financial consequences if we have not complied. As of yesterday, the governor said he had no plans to reintroduce some of the previous shelter in place orders. Remembering a young boy shot by a Police Officer while playing at a park. Tamir rice was killed by 2014, today would have been his 18th birthday. Witnesses told police they saw an African American boy waiting around a gun. He was carrying an air soft pellet gun. Police deemed the shooting within guidelines. He was eventually fired, not for his shooting, but for lying on a portion of his hiring application. Outlining a nine point plan to begin reforms in the citys over the permit.
