In response, Santa Clara County had admitted that a rise of cases in san jose, and other local cities, county Health Officials say that their numbers are still a lot lower than other parts of california. They have also made this statement, saying that we are concerned about the increasing cases nationally, and we believe that this highlights the need for a coordinated National Approach to address the pandemic. Something that the president has failed to put into effect. The latest unemployment report shows that 1. 4 Million People had filed for Unemployment Benefits last week. We are all dreading the august 1 date. We call it doomsday. Reporter she fears that reality will hit her family heart. She lost her job, her husband was furloughed and they have two young kids. He has applied for dozens of jobs since march, but nothing is panned out. The only relief so far as the 600 a week extra unemployment federal benefit that helps millions of americans. We live in the bay area, the cost of raising children and living the lifestyle in the bay area is extremely expensive. 600 had saved our lives, essentially. The benefit will expire at the end of the month. Californians will receive their last payment sunday, relying on 600 to pay bills, courtney is begging for it to continue. Shutting down the economy, you will have to be responsible for taking care of people without any restrictions. Has Congress Negotiates the next relief bill, there is a disagreement about the future of a 600 bills. Democrats want to continued, others agree with the white house plan to reduce it. We are not going to pay people more money in order to stay at home rather than work but we would like to make sure that the people that are that i cannot find jobs will get a reasonable wage replacement. Reporter the gop plan calls for a 70 percent replacement, which economists say would reduce the bonus to 200. There is 14 million more unemployed workers. You will not incentivizes people to take a job. It will just cause pain. Reporter the former chief economist at the u. S. And Santa Clara County and san jose specifically, the Eviction Moratorium will expire august 31. When the moratorium ends, tenants will be asked to start paying back rent. Most of the tenants, the low income tenants that have had lost jobs and unable to pay rent are going to struggle immensely to pay hundreds of dollars additional each month, due to the pay reduction. There are calls for government rental assistance, that way the rent gets paid and Property Owners can pay their bills and then there is no disruption to anyones housing. Sonoma county supervisors are publicly supporting tougher fines on people who ignore Public Safety rules during the pandemic. The board had said that i had of their schedule august 6, more and more enforcement will be taking place. Health Authorities Say the crackdown on those who ignore safety rules is needed to stop the spread of the virus. Fines could be as high as 500 for individuals, and 10,000 for businesses. Two men are in jail, accused of selling tens of thousands of dollars of drugs and the tenderloin district and San Francisco. Please say they identify the suspects, obtained a search warrant and arrested them yesterday. Officers say they found several ounces of cocaine and say that they found 50,000 in cash when they searched the two mens homes in the east bay. Accused of smashing the windows of 19 different cars, and a san jose neighborhood over the span of two nights, police say that they actually found the 24yearold smashing the car with a baseball bat near the capital expressway, and ocala avenue yesterday morning. The neighbors say that this was the second morning in a row that they woke up to the sound of breaking glass. Today is the final day of a fiveday strike by workers and santa rosas memorial hospital. It includes nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, dietary aids, housekeepers and medical technicians who have not had a contract for years. The dispute is over pay for healthcare premiums, and also paid time off. Starting today, United Airlines has all passengers wearing facial coverings. That includes on flights, but also at service counters, kiosks, Club Locations and airline gates. American airlines and Southwest Airlines are also toughening their mass guidelines, both airlines are also ending medical exemptions for them. Here in the bay area, bart has a fiscal emergency, and it may not survive the pandemic. Yesterday, bart officials said that they are falling behind revenue projections for the new fiscal year, which only started three weeks ago. The part director Elizabeth Ames said she does not know how bart will survive the pandemic. Possible Solutions Include bart taking out loans, or further cutting back daily service. The ridership of part is 12 percent of what it was before the pandemic. California fire is working to contain fires that burning in the northeastern part of our state. The fires are in lassen county, east of reading. The fire started on monday and is burning through dense rugged forest. At the hog fire started saturday and it is burning 75 miles south west of susanville. More evacuation orders were issued for the gold fire near the national forest, so far it is 35 percent contained and has burned close to 15 thousand acres. Seven structures have been destroyed and two firefighters have been hurt. California fire says home and ranches are threatened. The hog fire has parents on saturday, serving it is five percent contained. California fire is warning that warnings could be issued again. The cause of both fighters is still under investigation. He just completed the our kids in boys program, known as the okay program. He was awarded with a new car with how he has turned his life around. He started and the program in 2013, when he was at frick middle school, he had dozens of behavioral problems, but the okay program at help turn him around. When i joined, it put me on a road to stay focused and get into the books and learn more about myself, and about the ones around me and how i can help the ones around me. Way to go, jason, the program started in 1990, and and is in seven cities. The Silicon ValleyLeadership Group celebration of women centennial was held this week. This comes at the end of a year long celebration of women leaders, marking 100 years since the 19th amendment to the constitution guaranteed a womans right to vote, and the speakers included, the governors wife, jennifer newsom, karen bassett, and maria shriver. Our careers, they are a marathon. Their attorney. I think that young women are really hard on themselves. I see a lot of anxiety out there. A lot of stress. A lot of people saying, i cannot find my purpose. I need to change the world. She says theres a lot of pressure on women to be she says it can overwhelm a lot of women. The mayor is launching a program to offer in person support to students when they reopen with Distance Learning this fall. The Community Learning hubs would be at 40 locations around San Francisco, to support 6000 disadvantaged students. They will provide inperson support from low income students, students and foster care, hand, those who are learning the english language. The program would begin september 14 if approved by the state. A restaurant reservation site, open table is Offering Technology to College Campuses for free. They want to help schools manage their dining areas, as students come back to campus. Students can make reservations through that app, and see descriptions of menus and learn about Safety Measures as well. Already, the university of wisconsin and Cornell University have signed up for it. The continuing pandemic has caused suffering all over the country, and it has been a disappointing time for children who are very ill, involved with the make a wish foundation. It was a surprise for 70year old colette teller, battling leukemia for the past two years, and now in remission. It is amazing, i went outside and then i saw all of the balloons. They are decorated. Reporter this was not colettes makeawish, her sister and parents were set to take a trip to australia to get up close with koala bears. The coronavirus pandemic had put that on hold for now. They are really cute. I want to hold one. The balloon display gives koalas and her other favorite animal is lost. It it is nice, for her to know that other people support her. What better way to do this than bringing smiles to kids who wishes are not granted for now. Reporter corona misery, what it has brought is having to tell a sick or terminally ill children that their wish, especially if it involves travel cannot happen. It is hard to have that conversation. We are in the hope and joy business. To pull that back and say hang on a little bit longer but the they handle 400 cases a year and the bay area, 4000 nationwide.
