Interviewed Elections Officials in georgia, wisconsin, michigan and other states who came under pressure to change Voting Results in states. President biden won. Heres a look at the charges listed in the indictment returned by a grand jury. They are conspiracy to defraud the United States. Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruct of an official proceeding, conspiracy against wrights special counsel. Smith spoke a short time ago. Heres what he said. The attack on our nations capitol on january six, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of american democracy. Its described in the indictment. It was fueled by lies, lies by the defendant targeted at obstructing a bedrock function of the us government. The nations process of collecting, counting and certifying the results of the president ial election. The indictment only charges former President Trump, but it refers to six coconspirators. It is unclear when smith might name them. Mr. Trump has already been indicted in the classified documents case, as well as by a manhattan grand jury related to falsifying of Business Records. U. S. College of the law professor david levine believes this indictment is the most severe yet, that it was not just january sixth, but its the lead up in terms of trying to subvert democracy in seven states with the fake electors. And the threats to Vice President pence that its all of a piece. But theyre all very, very serious. So it is perhaps the most momentous indicted moment the Justice Department has ever issued in its entire history. Weve used the term former President Trump has continued to maintain his innocence, slamming the doj. His campaign released a statement saying, quote, these unamerican witch hunts will fail and President Trump will be reelected to the white house so he can save our country from the abuse, incompetence and corruption that is running through the veins of our country at levels never seen before. Attorney general merrick garland, who appointed smith, spoke to reporters a short time ago saying, quote, prosecutors have followed the facts and law wherever they lead. Mr. Trump has been ordered to appear before a judge in dc on thursday afternoon. All this as he continues to remain the gop frontrunner for the white house in 2024. Julie so greg, what will this mean for mr. Trumps president ial campaign . Could it affect his standing in the race . Well, julie, we have precedent for this. And if anything, it will lead to a fundraising boost for him. His campaign raised big money after his previous two indictments. He has already sent out a new fundraising email to his supporters. And the latest poll numbers incredibly positive for him. The latest poll out today from Siena College show him blowing out the other republican attenders by more than 30 points. And in a virtual dead heat when going head to head with president biden. Well look for mr. Trump to use this moment for his campaign. All right, greg, thank you. And as we told you, this is now the third time the former president has been indicted. In addition to the charges for attempted attempting to undo the 2020 president ial election, the former president also faces 34 felony counts of falsifying Business Records surrounding alleged hush money payments made to adult film star stormy daniels. 37 felony counts of mishandling classified documents in violation of the espionage act. Two charges of obstruction regarding those documents and one count of willful retention of defense information. New information in the big robbery in san ramon where more than 1 million worth of jewelry was ripped off from a store. Federal authorities are now working with local agencies on the case. Ktvu Crime Reporter henry lee live in the newsroom with the very latest on this one. Henry mike, five men have been charged in federal not state court in the smashandgrab robbery that netted more than 1 million in jewelry. But investigators are still looking for other suspects. They clearly saw a reason to get into it. This usually is handled by the county. Now, the feds are still looking for other robbers who have yet to be identified. Now, a side note. Investigators say one defendant was getting inside information secondhand from a woman who works as a Law Enforcement clerk. Now the fbi is looking into that part of the case. Mike didnt even know they had gps and some of these rolex. I mean, if it wasnt for that gps, this could be a different story tonight. Absolutely if it wasnt for the gps, if it wasnt for iding those vehicles involved. Yeah. All right. Henry lee live tonight in the newsroom. Henry, thank you. Danger sparking in San Franciscos hayes valley early this morning. Flames poured out of a building thats under construction and forced the closure of some streets near oak and octavia for much of the day. Christian captain joins us now live near the scene where some traffic is now moving through that busy corridor. Christian yeah, some traffic is now moving, julie, but as you can see behind me, a good portion of the intersection here at oak and octavia is still empty. Traffic is being allowed to proceed westbound on oak and then turn south onto octavia. So they can get on the freeway. But for right now, any vehicles trying to come off the freeway are encountering a roadblock. That is because they are still waiting for crews to arrive to begin taking down the scaffolding that was left after that huge fire. This morning. Crews say the fire at this building at oak and octavia started shortly before 6 a. M. The blaze grew quickly due in part to the fact that this 24 unit Apartment Building was still under construction. First and foremost, a building under construction at this level does not have fire safety mechanisms in place, meaning that we dont have the suppression system that we would be normally seeing in a building. Neighbors who live nearby awoke to flames and an enormous fire. I live on the first floor and i looked through the window and it was just orange. So i peeled back my curtains and it was a huge, colossal size fire that was all the way up to the roof top. Fire crews say no one was injured, but eight people had to be evacuated as the fire damaged nearby buildings. I personally, i feel kind of lost on what to do in that moment, whether it was the right thing to evacuate or to stay indoors. But once we realized that the fire from that construction building, it spread onto the next door, which was one door down from us, thats when we decided to evacuate. Crews worked for more than two hours to contain the fire, but the damage had already been done to the morning commute. Drivers had to reroute around this usually busy intersection. Crews finally allowed some traffic to pass through the area shortly before noon. But with firefighters still on scene to prevent flare ups and an unsteady scaffolding in place, crews kept portions of octavia and oak street closed throughout the day. The Property Owner and the Construction Company are working with City Services to bring a crane in to remove this scaffolding safely. Were going to keep the street closed until that is done. Okay. Now as to the cause of that fire, that is still under investigation. Weve had numerous neighbors tell us that people have broken into this construction site in the past and had been sleeping there a fire crews brought in a dog, specially trained to detect accelerants as part of their investigation to see if this was caused by an encampment or remember, this is a construction site. Perhaps it was a construction accident of some kind or there was some other cause. Neighbors also say that they have had concerns about fire in the neighborhood. Theyve said that there have been several fires in the area that have been associated with encampments in the area. They say that theyve sent letters to the city expressing that concern because they say there have been so many of them. And they also say that they were worried that something exactly like this might happen. Were live in San Francisco. Christien kafton ktvu , fox two news and christian, were those road closures already in place because of the construction site or are these just because of the fire . And if so, any timeline as to how long they will be up until traffic can return to normal . Yeah. No. So octavia and oak, this is a heavily traveled route. So there was no traffic closure here due to that construction. The construction construction project was actually nearing its completion. There were signs that were saying that they were going to allow for normal parking in the area sometime in november. So that should give you a timeline on when they were looking to have this project possibly completed. So traffic was allowed to go through the area that the blockages that you see right now, the stoppages that you see behind me thats due direct rectly due to this fire. And any word on how long thats going to be closed at this point, no word because what they need to wait on is that crane to arrive. So they need to source a crane. They need to put that crane into position. Usually they have somebody come out and inspect to make sure that that crane looks appropriate and is ready to start the work. And then they have to start taking apart the scaffold from the top down. Usually that work is done by going up that scaffolding and kind of disassembling it from the top down. Clearly, they cant do that right now because its likely that parts of that scaffolding were damaged from the heat in that fire. Its simply not safe for somebody to go climbing up there. So they have to get that crane into place. They have to put it into place. They have to start pulling that scaffolding apart piece by piece from the top down. They certainly dont want it falling into the road as traffic resumes in the area. Yeah, a lot of work to do there. All right. Christien kafton reporting live in San Francisco. Christian, thank you. An investigation is underway in connection with a body found at a fire on interstate 980. In oakland. The chp and oakland fire responded to that fire around 130 this morning near the 17th street offramp on westbound 980. Crews quickly put out the flames. The chp says they found the body nearby. Still no word on the cause of death or if the body showed any signs of trauma related to the fire. Plus, im just not seeing that passion. Im just seeing a very lackluster, uninspiring. Taking it for granted. And they dont look criticism directed right toward the us team, even though its advancing in the world cup. After the break. Ktvu Jason Appelbaum has those details. Plus, just how close the team came to actually going home. And we are cooling down. Look at all that fog out there. Theres more coming tomorrow. So were going to drop temperatures a few more degrees. It does warm at some point in the five day. In the womens world cup. Thats right. The nil nil draw, though , drawing some criticism from a former player, especially since the Number One Team in the world had just one win in three games during this group stage gay. Jason appelbaum joins us now from the newsroom. I mean, just inches away from going home there, jason. Yeah, julie and mike uninspired is how former Team Captain Carli Lloyd described the United States effort today. Team usa escaping group play by the slimmest of margins. The stage was set, though, in auckland, new zealand for the Us Womens National team to come out, make a statement, show everyone who the boss was. Instead, its offense was listless, scoreless in the 91st minute when two of usas biggest stars connect. Megan rapinoe. Perfect pass to alex morgan. But she cant shake the defender fires it high over the net usa did outshoot portugal by a few shots on net but not many on net less than 30s later. Portugal on the attack headed forward got their break a shot off the post that is how close the United States came from being eliminated from the world cup and a shot ricocheting off the post in stoppage time. So the game ends in a scoreless draw earning usa the point it needed to come in second in group e behind the netherlands. Both teams advancing to the knockout round and after the game, cocaptain kelli ohara gathered the team to deliver an impassioned speech. I told the team like, listen, we did what we had to do. Were moving on. Group stage is done. This is over. Its in the rear view. We have our next game in front of us, and thats the only one that matters. And again, maybe we didnt do it the way we wanted to or planned on doing it, but were advancing. And this is the world cup, and thats all that matters. This is not a team that is. So for the first time in womens world cup history, the United States won only a single game during the group stage. And yet team usa advances. But that didnt stop two time world cup champion and fox sports analyst carli lloyd from expressing this Harsh Criticism of her former team. Im just not seeing that passion. Im just seeing a very lackluster, uninspiring taking it for granted. Where were winning and training and doing all that you can to be the best possible individual player is not happening. They dont look fit. Theyre playing as individuals. The importance and meaning of winning has changed. What has come from winning has become more important not to question the mentality of this team, to question the willingness, the willingness to win, to compete. I think its insane. So based on the post match reaction, it almost feels like the United States lost. But the team has adopted the motto survive live in advance not exactly dominate but survive in advance. And that is exactly what they did. Julie and mike. Yeah. Advance indeed. Lets not dwell on the past here. Jason lets talk about the future. So up next, ive heard sweden. Is that who theyre planning . We dont know yet. Well all because the United States came in second. It plays the winner of group g and that team will almost certainly be sweden ranked third in the world. So a real powerhouse. Yeah. Sweden currently sits atop its group after a five nil win over italy on saturday day. The swedes would have to lose to argentina tonight by about ten goals and italy would have to beat south africa in order for italy to win the group and face the United States instead in the next round. So lets assume its sweden, which would be an incredibly difficult matchup for team usa. In fact, the last time the two teams met sweden beat the United States three nil in the opening round of the olympics. That was two years ago in tokyo. Megan rapinoe asked today what gives her the confidence that can beat sweden . I just think we will. I dont know. Even when we have a draw like that or times that weve lost or times we havent played well, i just always feel like were going to win. I just would never bet against us. I wouldnt bet against them either. But if they do win their next game, it will be without one of their best players. Because rose lavelle was assessed a yellow card on this play in the 39th minute. Her second of the tournament, which means an automatic one game suspension and we shall see how it all unfolds this coming sunday, 2 a. M, when the United States is back on the pitch in the round of 16. I mean, thats like a world cup final. Sweden us, if that happens, thats the feel. Its the number one ranked team in the world versus the number three ranked team. Again it could be italy, but its like a 100 to 1 shot. All right. So it all goes down. You said 2 00 in the morning on or two, 2 a. M. Monday morning, 2 a. M. Sunday here. So sunday at 2 a. M, which is, i think sunday at 7 p. M. In australia. All right. Either way, they got to win or they will come home, win or go home. All right, jason, thank you. All right. And here is the world cup schedule for tonights matches right here on ktvu. The us squad will be watching because as jason mentioned, is expected opponent sweden will take the pitch. The pregame show starts at 11 00 tonight, followed by sweden against argentina and then panama taking on france for those wanting to watch the 11 00 news tonight, just head over to ktvu. Plus, tomorrow morning, you can catch mornings on two starting at 4 00 on ktvu plus as well until the overnight games wrap up. All right. Its a bit cooler out there today. Noticeable for us and the middle part of the country and out in the southwest is still hot so these are the forecast highs for tomorrow. I just keep pointing out this area here and this area here, its been day after day after almost a month of near record heat or record heat. Heat advisories, heat warning. So thats tomorrow afternoon here comes thursday afternoon. It shifts a little bit out into alabama, the mississippi, the heat moves a little further east. And as it does, we cool because that dome pushes a little bit east and we get a little more troughing on on the west. Its subtle changes, but were on a cooling pattern. You know that here, heres the next day. Heres into friday. And you can see its all the way over to atlanta now, that heat dome. And its again shifted enough that we are going to get a little bit of cooling or significant cooling. We noticed it today. Well notice it further tomorrow with temperatures in the hot spots in the mid to low 80s at best, whereas yesterday and day before that, we were in the low 90s, mid 90s. So live camera shot theres plenty of fog out there. Big deep marine layer coming your way tomorrow morning. Big one. Its going to get all the way up into the central valley. All nine bay area counties. When you wake up its foggy burns off slow in the highs tomorrow are going to be like i say, well below the average for this time of year. So very pleasant for us right now. Heres where we are. Pretty mild, right . Its just 82 in fairfield. So when i come back, well look at the full forecast. Well put it all together with the five day. Still and you got instead of mid 90s in fairfield you hit 85 antioch 83 livermore just 84. San francisco not too bad at 62. Pretty typical around the bay 66 in oakland, 78. In santa rosa. Highs tomorrow. Take another bounce downward. Theyre going to see more fog in the morning. As you know theres a bunch of fog out there now and its all on the coast. It was yesterday. It was a little more parsed out. But right now, its everywhere along the coast. So its going to push its way inland tonight with a with a kind of a fever we havent seen in a while and was just going to get deep and its going to go far. So its going to get into the inland bay valleys, places like sacramento and fairfield. You may not see fog in sacramento, but you will see you will see your humidities go up real quick and your temperatures drop fairly quickly as well. So were in a kind of a nice little pattern here. The story is the seabreeze, obviously the mild inland temperatures, which are running 11 degrees cooler than they were last night in fairfield, 12 degrees cooler in santa rosa. So the story is this big high. I dont know if youre with us. Last night, but it shifted. So you kind of see the big thing spinning. It kind of shifted a little bit east. So the heats moving over towards the southeast. And when that happens, it sets us up out here. It kind of pulls the ridge a little bit away from us. And thats whats happening. So were on the kind of the far edge of the ridge, which is actually affecting in some cooler air, some moisture, some cloud cover as well. And thats going to continue through tomorrow and into the next day by the weekend, that changes around the ridge kind of bounces back a little bit, but not right away. Thats the weekend. Sunday temperatures get pretty warm. But again, next couple of days, theres the fog, big fog footprint all the way into San Francisco to the bay bridge. Already into berkeley at this hour. So you know, its going to have a big push. Its up over the coastal hills. Its going to be in all nine bay area counties tomorrow morning. Heres the push of fog. There it is. And even drizzle possible on the model. This is the computer model. And you can see all that fog and it burns back. But its cool day and then same thing happens on wednesday or thursday, pardon me, thursday morning and maybe some drizzle. So wednesday, thursday. So what does that mean, fire danger down air quality. Great temperatures, mild to cool certainly. And so were not expecting big numbers. The hot spots are going to be in the low 80s for the next 48 hours for sure. And then as we get into the weekend, these temperatures are going to warm significantly, especially inland. Were going to see potential upper 90s, maybe a low 100 on sunday, but again, wednesday, thursday, friday, very cool. And then a quick warm up on saturday and sunday. All right, bill, thank you. Getting a loved one. Flowers to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday. You could say its a fairly common gift. It is. But there is one kansas farmer who has put the gift of a dozen roses to shame. She couldnt date till she was 16, and i called her on her 16th birthday, and thats when we started dating and we had our first date was a Roller Skating Party and ffa Roller Skating Party in harper, kansas, made me feel very special. And its it can be a more perfect Anniversary Gift than a field of sunflowers says, oh my gosh, what a story. But it is a short lived gift.
