Going to get warmer for some of us for most, that is correct. We do have a little change in our pattern after a cooldown on wednesday, especially thursday. Inland areas, there were some only mid 70s for some 50s on the temps to san joses 58, but palo alto dropped to 51. Now 52, the tropical cloud monsoon moisture continues to be close to taos, up near the oregon border in northeast california, but not a lot in the state, but its close. So 50 to 60s by the coast, 70s, 80s inland. After that drop yesterday, temps will rebound today, pretty close to where they should be this time of year. Lets get back to the traffic now with james torres. So thank you will take you right over to 880 this morning. But we had a traffic from much earlier this morning at about 3 00 am. A car overturned and three other cars also crashed together. Thats southbound 880 near downtown oakland, kind of near fruitvale, just past Jack London Square. You see the traffic actually moving a little bit better now. Still very slow, though. Still got a bit of a track backup there. I believe crews have already cleared the scene. But keep that in mind before you head out the door today. Take you over to the bay bridge span. If youre heading into San Francisco, fog is going to be a problem there. But there is a little bit of backup. It might be hard to see to this camera, but we know of a car crash there between a van and a tow truck. Looks like that already been cleared as well. But that was blocking at least one lane of traffic for a while. So there is some residual backup as well. 701 is your time. All right, james. Well, hazmat crews in san pablo expected to be right back out there removing what remains of dangerous chemicals found in a backyard shed. The Contra Costa County authorities evacuated hundreds of people who live nearby. Neighbors say the chemicals belong to a chemistry professor who died recently. Hazmat crews were called in. They removed most of those chemicals, given how they were stored, i would say everything in that building , everything in that shed was pretty dangerous because one could set off the entire. Now, technicians processed hundreds of containers that were filled with chemicals. Authorities say some of the containers are not marked, and were still not sure what many of them are. The chemicals are being taken to a facility where they can be safely destroyed. Time is now 702. Weve learned that an eight year old boy who was shot on an oakland freeway is now paralyzed and hell probably need medical care for the rest of his life. Bill was a father of four, but lost his baby girl to sids in 2016. He leaves behind his wife and their three young sons. She thanked everyone for their love and support, saying she has an army around her. Bills touched so many peoples lives outside of the 18 years ive been with him and i see it and people are writing for him and taking care of us because i dont have my other half anymore. And my kids dont have this amazing father. And so seeing all of you and you guys sharing what a great person he is to my kids, to his legacy. Brings me peace. People shared stories of bill, how he touched their lives and his love for serving others and sports. He trained people at a local gym and helped coach his sons team, the Clayton Valley junior eagles, to a League Championship last year. A gofundme set up for funeral expenses has raised nearly 80,000 so far. The link is on our website, ktvu. Com. Dave all right, amanda, thank you. Time now. 705. Happening today, protesters will gather near livermore at the Lawrence Livermore lab to call on the United States government to abolish the use of nuclear weapons. This is the persecution of the person thats leading by very, very substantial numbers in the republican primary and leading biden by a lot. So if you cant beat him, you persecute him or you prosecute him. We cant let this happen in america. It was an attempt to perpetrate a fraud on the public, but fundamentally, it was an attempt to usurp the will of the people and violate everybodys voting rights. Now the next court date for donald trump is august 28th, five days after the first republican primary debate. An Artificial Intelligence appears to be outperforming doctors when it comes to screening for cancer. A new swedish study found that Artificial Intelligence can detect Breast Cancer as well or better than two human doctors. One doctor told us the use of Artificial Intelligence in health care is a good idea. I would be comfortable using it because i look at it as an extra tool and adjunct in assisting me in providing the best care for my patients. Now, the findings is important because according to the National Cancer institute , screening mammograms right now miss about 20 of Breast Cancers. The findings of that swedish study studied 80,000 scans for women. Human screening detected 203 cases of Breast Cancer, while the Artificial Intelligence group found 244 cases, 20 more. The false positive results were the same. 712 this morning, the top Law Enforcement officers for the city and county of San Francisco were all at a town hall meeting last night in the tenderloin. Ktvu ali rasmus live with us in the studio to tell us about the crime concerns that dominated that meeting. Ali james, San Franciscos police chief, the District Attorney and the sheriff, all spoken, took questions at this meeting. The residents who attended wanted to know what the city is doing to deal with crime. In the tenderloin neighborhood, many parents who spoke up told Law Enforcement leaders theyre afraid to even take their kids outside in their neighborhood. The Saint Anthony foundation located in the heart of the tenderloin, hosted this community meeting. A leader of that Nonprofit Group says the problems of drug crime and violence and homelessness are out of control. He says the city appears completely powerless to stop it. We had some people on our staff assaulted. Volunteers dont want to come here anymore. Probably most sad is that some of our guests are too afraid to come and see us here. The Law Enforcement leaders in attendance say they are doing what they can to reduce crime in the tenderloin, San Franciscos District Attorney, brooke jenkins, says the citys efforts to reduce crime often hit roadblocks when these cases go to court. Jenkins says thats especially true when it comes to prosecuting drug dealers in the tenderloin. Were going in filing these motions, arguing about the deadliness of fentanyl and about the dangerousness of this conduct. And yet and still the judges are ignoring it. The city of San Francisco recently announced an effort to have its Police Department partner with other Law Enforcement agencies to target Drug Trafficking and public drug use in the tenderloin. Earlier this summer, the governor sent the california Highway Patrol and the California National guard to help local Police Respond to some of these issues and crimes in the tenderloin. James, back to you. Ali ramos, thank you. All right. Time now, 713. Lets talk a little bit about your traffic here. We had a little bit of backups here and there, but of course, were keeping an eye on and all. You sure freeway here, you see traffic flowing perfectly fine in both directions. Not too much to worry about here. But lets talk about some of our bay area bridges, because really, anyone you cross over, youre going to see a good amount of fog, especially if youre going over the bay bridge. But first, lets talk about the richmond, san rafael bridge, which youre not going to see normally. Wouldnt see too much activity, but you see a little bit of backup there when you somewhat expect that at about 7 00 this morning. But for the most part, traffic is flowing through smoothly. The bay bridge toll plaza not having too many concerns either. The metering lights are on here. You see the tiny bit of backup there. But once you pass through the metering lights, you might get still a little bit of a slowdown. Once you get halfway across. We did have that accident earlier that created a little bit of that backup. But for the most part, getting into San Francisco shouldnt take you to too long. 714 lets have over to mister Steve Paulson, who is looking for some warm weather, hopefully at some point i thought yesterday was okay. You didnt like yesterday. Yeah, we were doing okay. All right. Thanks. We are looking for warmer weather after an unseasonably cool day yesterday , my friend janelle texted me and said perfect weather. Well, okay, if you 6070 to a soft 80 there in santa rosa yesterday. Napa was 79. Livermore only 75. Thats down 14 from average this time of year. Theyll jump up today though. Canfield 74, san jose 74. Redwood city was only 68. Oakland 64. In the city, 62 from 94 on sunday. Concord to 93 on monday, 85, 79, 74. Thats a big drop this time of year. Today well start to return that back into the 80s and i think 90 kick back in tomorrow. Santa rosa, oakland, livermore and san jose. The arrows are up 86, 70, 86 and 80 on steves forecast highs. You think its easy forecast highs. Ill give you the tools you can try it at home. 72 in mount vader, 54 berkeley lab because theyre in the soup, the fog, if you will, 6082. Ben lomond mountain. Thats ten warmer than yesterday at this time. The reason being is we had a couple of little dips in the jetstream that opened the door to the stronger onshore breeze, cooler air aloft. Not anymore. The high is already building in a lot of 50s on the temps. San joses 59, brentwood 59. I mean, its close for everyone. A little cooler, though, along the peninsula there. Sunnyvale, 53, stanford 51, san carlos at 54, bookends, 45. Truckee, South Lake Tahoe had at ten for reno, mammoth at 50 degrees and thunderstorm activity. Oh, its close. Its getting close. You know, august, september, you start to look for that. But right now, it does not look like its going to visit lake tahoe, although theres plenty north and east. So if youre up near mount shasta, northeast california, keep an eye on things. There could be some development there some afternoon convection 60s for most of the coast are upper 50. Thats been a cold summer for many on the immediate coast. Even in the city and around the bay, its been tough to warm up. You wont really that much in this pattern, but inland temps, they dont have any problem. Theyll start that today, top it out on sunday. Then a little cooldown again, starts monday. Tuesday. Steve paulson ill take it. Thank you. Scientists are getting a never before seen glimpse inside the eyes of hurricanes. Thanks to new Drone Technology being built right here in the bay area. The company, saildrone, is based in alameda and it makes robotic sailboats to collect high quality information from the ocean. Sail drones were created to chase after hurricanes trying to understand whats happening as the hurricanes approaching. As the hurricanes happening and as it passes through off of the water level is something that theyve noaa has never been able to achieve before, more aquatic drones have instruments that can measure variables in the air and on the sea. The data gives scientists a better understanding of how hurricanes develop. Were finding some interesting things with the saildrone data, how the waves interact with the winds and can cause changes in that drag effect that slows down the hurricanes winds. Scientists watched the data collect by the sail drones at the Mission Control office in alameda. This is where the team works on missions that range from mapping the sea floor to carbon uptake near hawaii. The team is currently gearing up to send sail drones to another hurricane mission. The strike is having a huge impact on the many businesses tied to the hollywood movie industry, including the once bustling catering businesses. Normally, there would be about 20 of our employees doing work, some doing asian food, some doing mexican food, some doing cajun food. This is the first time in more than 60 years that both hollywood writers and performers have been on strike at the same time. Its just a part of who we are. It would be like teaching biology and leaving out important content that is foundational. Go into medicine and to law and to many other courses and many of them actually major in psychology as a foundation to go into some of these areas. A spokesperson for the Florida Department, department of education said the course is not currently banned and is Still Available to students this school year. Some Health Insurance companies are now dropping coverage for some popular weight loss medications because of the high price products like wego v and ozempic prescribed for treating obesity and type two diabetes have been in high demand recently. The drugs are not or rather are expensive. Without insurance, the injections can cost 1,200 a month. The issue of obesity medications is one that is high on everybodys list and more and more companies are looking at how to or if they will cover obesity medications where the cost really add up or when, you know, people that might be slightly overweight, you know, maybe have a little double chin like me, maybe a little bit of a beer belly and they want to lose the weight sometime in the future, generic versions may become for these weight loss drugs. Welcome to mornings on two. Im dave clark. And im james torres. It is friday, august 4th. Youre seeing a lot of fog outside. But Steve Paulson says this weekend is shaping up to be a pretty good one. Right . If you like warmer weather. That is correct. Not so much the coast, but inland. No doubt about it. There will be some pushing upper 90s, maybe to near 100 by sunday. Today, though, its more 6070s and 80s. First images of the visible satellite and theres still pretty good fog bank in there. So i mean, were not warming up that much but well well jump up air aloft is getting much warmer thunderstorm activity close to tahoe, truckee again, just going up there. Just keep an eye on things. Theres been some pretty good build ups, thats for sure. But 5060s the water temps are still very cold for us here. And then looking at a low 50s. So it doesnt take much to keep that fog machine rolling along. Warmer temps inland. Well get temperatures jumping up near average coast in bay to slightly below still for inland areas. Governor newsom has agreed to give the city 1. 2 million in state funding to allow the cityd freeways and on many busy streets, including in international boulevard privacy groups worry about how Law Enforcement will use this gathered information. General concerns with alpr is that its literally mass surveillance. It indiscriminately collects data on all license plates driving by within view. Historically all across the country for more than a decade, 99. 99 of all Data Collected will never be used. And so were putting people into a criminal Law Enforcement database for no reason. Theres no justification. Now, supporters of license plate readers say theyre an effective way to track down criminals and theyll be effective to respond to the rising crime rate within oakland. Our time now. 733. A mistrial was declared in the Sexual Assault trial of san jose states former head athletic trainer, scott shaw pleaded not guilty to six federal charges for allegedly sexually abusing four female athletes during physical therapy. A developing story. Pac 12 leaders are holding an emergency meeting right now as the future of the sports conference is up in the air is baylee ocarroll live this morning at cal bailey. All of this coming as a word of more schools could be leaving the conference. James james thats right. Good morning. The future of the 108 year old pac 12 conference is on the brink this morning. This is as that media rights deal really a big focus, likely a big focus of that meeting this morning. It is how these conference is, how these athletic departments make a each year. And as i as james just been reached just yet. Right now, nine schools remain in the pac 12, but this hasnt all happened overnight. Usc and ucla announced that they were leaving last year. Colorado followed suit this week, which was a major blow finalizing a deal that sends them to the big 12. Now, more schools could be leaving, according to espn, the university of arizona is deep in talks with the big 12. And barring anything crazy in their board of regents meeting, a deal is expected to be finalized and announced soon. This all happens as the big ten conference president s author meetings to possibly add oregon and washington. But according to the athletic this morning, that possibility has lost some steam nonetheless, this conference realignment, of course, leaves cal and stanford or could leave cal and stanford without a home. Here is what cal football head coach Justin Wilcox had to say about this changing and fluid situation that falls into the category of something that cert we have control over. And those are our two criteria for what we focus on, what matters . What do we have control over and where are those two things overlap. Thats where we focus, you know, and im not denying the significance. Its significant and a major way. However, we dont have any control over that. To the end zone for the cardinal. So the question this morning, how will this saga end . We will likely have to wait and see updates coming from that meeting hopefully soon. The pac 12 commissioner, though, presented a media rights deal to the remaining University President s on tuesday that is believed to be a step in the right direction. In fact, the commissioner said patients will be rewarded with an announcement soon and said the longer they wait, the better their offers have gotten, which is interesting considering many people thought that the loss of big names like usc and ucla would not bode well for a high paying rights deal. But if a deal is not reached in cal and stanford and the remaining universities, they would have a couple of options. They could either form a smaller, lesser conference by adding some extension schools. San diego state is expected to be a target for this option. Or they could join the big ten in form some sort of West Coast Division. But that would likely mean reduced revenue, which has a trickle down effect. It would mean less salaries potentially to give to coaches, which would then then have a domino effect and could lead to schools having trouble recruiting big name top players, which could also lead to issues retaining those players because of the big focus of nil deals in the world of College Athletics. Today we are hoping to have an update on that pac 12 meeting for you soon and well bring you the latest information as we learn it. Reporting live at cal, im bailey ocarroll, ktvu fox two news. Bailey, thank you. The giants and the as are playing tomorrow for the start of a two game bay bridge series. Fires after a fast moving grass fire burned dangerously close to homes. The fires started yesterday afternoon in East San Jose and people who live in the area were ready to evacuate as they saw the flames move over the hills. Two years ago, we had the fire that went right up mount hamilton. So we get them here every once in a while, but nothing thats come this close now. No evacuations were needed and Fire Fighters were able to get a handle on the fire before it damaged homes or buildings. More than 70 cal fire and san jose firefighters worked together to fight those flames. An aggressive firefight from our aerial resources and our resources on the ground, as well as in coordination with the Defensible Space of the Property Owners was a key element in no structure loss on this incident. San jose mayor matt mehan wants to ban homeless encampments near schools. At a press conference, students shared their stories of being followed home and of Homeless People breaking into schools during teaching hours. Mehan says the city has removed encampments for security reasons. Those reasons before were like clearing the encampment near the San Jose Mineta International airport. This proposal would ban encampments within 150ft of san jose public and private schools, as well as daycares. This is about enough increasing that accountability on both sides, starting with governments role. There are a lot of places to park and camp that dont have to be right next to a school. And weve got to give our students that peace of mind, of having even just a modest buffer around their learning environment. Mayor mehan says the ban is not to place blame on the homeless communities, but rather make sure School Children feel safe. All right, james, time 740, right back to Steve Paulson. The gray clouds and the gray skies still sticking around. And for many, that is true. Well take a look at that. Will go north to south here, making the move up 101 up towards santa rosa, also over San Pablo Bay, then up in napa valley. Thats a pretty good little push there. I mean, nothing unusual. But another good surgeon of moisture yesterday, the biggest, strongest push was out to the east bay. Well, guess what . Back out to lafayette, san ramon, out to livermore. Then banks up against the ultimate pass there. Hayward down to fremont. Some breaks in the cloud cover but it still making a push inland and deep fog from Santa Cruz Watsonville out to Morgan Hill Gilroy hollister so when you get that much fog tough to warm up that much after just a top si turvy trip here on the temperatures over the last five days. Up we go. 86, 70, 86 and 80 on the forecast highs for today. The air aloft is kind of the key here. Its really jumped up at least for mount veeder and also Ben Lomond Mountain. Thats up 10 to 15 degrees from yesterday. Berkeley lab, though, still shallow enough or low enough, i should say that theyre in the fog. So only 54, 50, 60 on your temps havent really moved much yet. Theyve been stuck. We did have some low 50 stanford campus made it down to 51 now 53. Midforties 45. Truckee, south. Lake tahoe, 80 or 70s on the desert, 50 and 60s up and down the coast. A couple of systems took aim at us, knocked down that high while theyve gone through now the highest is im building in its not that strong of a high but inland temps this time of year can jump up pretty fast. So well start that process. Dont think the coast though, is theyve been this has been a cold summer for many on the immediate coast. Even in San Francisco has been tough to warm up 60, 70 and then inland well get back into some 80s tomorrow. The 90s could push some upper 90s to near 100 far enough inland on sunday. I dont think san jose is getting anywhere near that. But monday and tuesday cools down again. All right. Thank you. Time 743 the price of Breakfast Foods may be going up again. San franciscos police chief District Attorney and sheriff all attended a town hall meeting in the citys tenderloin district last night. They took questions from the public on how the city is responding to the many critical problems plaguing the area. The Saint Anthony Foundation Hosted the event in a leader of that Nonprofit Group says the problems of violent crime, drug dealing and homelessness are now completely out of control. We had some people on our staff assaulted. Volunteers dont want to come here anymore. Probably most sad is that some of our guests are too afraid to come and see us here. San franciscos District Attorney says the citys efforts to crack down on drug dealing in the tenderloin often hit a roadblock when these cases head to court. Going in, filing these motions, arguing about the deadliness of fentanyl and about the dangerousness of this conduct, and yet and still the judges are ignoring it. The state recently sent in the chp and the California National guard to help crack down on drug dealing and other crimes in the tenderloin. The cdc approved a one time shot that can help prevent rsv in babies and toddlers. A panel of Health Experts says the new antibody drug strengthens the immune system to fight off that respiratory virus. It is recommended that infants under eight months get that vaccine in eight, 13 year time, which means we are less than an hour away from our zip trips to los gatos. It was settled and 1791 by spanish missionaries. Now it is home to 32,000 people. Ktvu Frank Mallicoat is in los gatos with a sneak peek at some of our zip trip trivia. This is always a highlight of the zip trip show. Frank, i love your trivia. I learned something about all these towns you go into and i grew up in the bay area. A lot of things i didnt know. Well, weve got some great ones. A lot of history in this town, actually, guys. Good morning, everyone. The big question is why was los gatos named after cats in spanish for the cats . Many, many years ago . Were going to answer that question, among others. And as usual, we took to the streets to test the knowledge of the locals here. How much do they really know about their city . And as usual, they need a little help. I get to ask you questions to see how well you know your city. Oh, no. And if you dont know it, its okay to make it up. Okay. And if you make mistakes even better, because its all all in good fun. Its only on tv. The only olympics. Gator. I know. It was tonya. Tonya harding. Thats the only one, you know, only pick your skin right now. I dont know if youre skating a good answer. I think its a good answer, too. And youre wrong. Oh initials. Pff do you need another belt . I do. I do. Wheres vanna . Oh, i cant think of her name. Oh, come on. Oh, darn. Whered you get that . Just a guess. Yes. Yeah and you are right. Oh, beautiful. Are you in a movies at all . Yeah, i know. The barbie and oppenheimers came out okay. Hi, ken. Do you know the original name was los pedros . The dogs before los gatos . Oh, no, i didnt know that. It just made that. I was going to say, i dont think thats true gone with the wind k in 1939. She lived to be 104, just passed away about three years ago. And they both grew up in this town. So well answer that. Well talk about the olympic figure skater that put figure skating on the map. She won a gold medal back in 19 1868, among other things. And of course, well answer that los gatos question as well. So great stuff coming up. Were also going to hit the loma brewery thats owned by kevin youkilis, a former Major League Baseball player, won a couple of world series with the red sox. And by the way, hes married to tom bradys sister. Hes got a brewery about a block away. Well have a beer with him coming up. A little bit later. Its all coming your way in about an hour. Youre just full of all kinds of interesting trivia this morning. But now we have we have to like we have to try and figure out, is this trivia question for real or not . You got those people with that last question about the name of los peres, los gatos. Okay. We have a 20 minutes or so to ponder some of those trivia questions you just left us with. So well check back with you, frank. Well, i promise ill answer them all. Okay all right. Time now. 817 this morning. See if we can get you out the door. 880 was a little bit of a trouble spot earlier this morning. You can see it live over here. We had a car crash for car crash actually at about 3 00 this morning. So hours ago. But theres still some residual backup. Their lanes were closed for quite a while. There was a sig alert and a break as well. But you see traffic moving along smoothly here. So if youre headed from downtown oakland over to San Francisco, shouldnt have any problems anymore. Richmond, san rafael bridge, lets go there and take a look. We had a little bit of a slowdown, kind of a typical slowdown. What you would see around the 7 to 8 00 time. So wherever youre headed this morning, you can expect it to last however long it normally would be on any other day. Friday, light on the bay bridge toll plaza for sure. We had a little bit of a backup from a crash earlier, but that was hours ago. Thats all clear as of now. 817 Steve Paulson here telling us this weekend should be mighty nice. Im here to tell you, i believe the answer is olivia to have one. Oh, okay. Okay. After 104, the only one i could think of was vivien leigh. But i dont. Shes not. Shes not local. Okay. Yeah. I had no guess. Im going to go team steve here. Pretty sure olivia to happen. All right. We do have a pretty good fog bank as well. Heading up 101 from marin county up to santa rosa, north almost to healdsburg. Maybe it made it there. Also up over San Pablo Bay, then vallejo, benicia, american canyon. Hidden brook looks like it. Put the brakes on around cordelia and heads right up the napa valley. So theres one push, another one. Yesterday the strongest surge was out towards the east this time of san ramon. Out to livermore banks, up against the Altamont Pass down to fremont. Some breaks on the peninsula and then another push. Santa cruz, santa cruz mountains, santa clara valley. Morgan hill. Gilroy hollister. Thats a pretty goode come down since sunday and ised by that. 74 yesterday. But there was a stronger push on the fog, which made a huge difference. Temperatures today, though, theyre on their way up san jose from 74 yesterday will go 80 today. Livermore to 86. Oakland 64 yesterday. That was it to 70 and up six for santa rosa from 80 to 86. Mount veeder is way up a good 15 degrees from yesterday. Ben lomond mountain is up 14. Thats a sign that the High Pressure is building in berkeley lab, though, in the gray. So thats why there are only 54, 50, 60 still on the temps fog is yet to start burning off. So, i mean, its still there. Should start to take the turn head back to the coast. But ill tell you, its tough to warm up when you get this much of a fog bank, but there are signs that it will burn off a little sooner. Today, thunderstorm activity continues to be more north, east and south of tahoe. Its close, but its not over. Them the high builds in for three days is the way it looks here. Thats been the pattern since may. And i dont think anythings changing this time around. But inland temps will start a little jump today, a bigger jump as we go into the weekend. Could be a few pushing 100 degrees far enough inland on sunday. That does look like the hottest day by far. Starts to back off to monday, then much cooler tuesday. You guys. Not bad. Steve, thank you. A fabulous week for steph and aisha curry. First, they celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary and now aisha has another big day in her life and in her career. This weekend. You know, at the end of the day , when people are putting themselves out there, especially in an industry like this, we need to protect them, protect their likeness, protect their talent. Its zip trip friday, possibly the last friday before back to school for a lot of families and all that is well, i am looking forward to School Starting again and getting back to that normal routine and over the weekend its going to be good pool weather for a lot of folks. Steve paulson, to get in the pool before they go back to school. No doubt about it. Inland coast, i dont know. Its pretty cold over there. But inland temps. Yes, well start. We cooled off dramatically yesterday. But now the big fog banks in place and still making a pretty good push here. Now theres some noticeable holes in it. No doubt about it. Over san jose los gatos, theres lots of sunshine but 60s coast, 56, is by the coast and a cold spawned some. And in the city as well. They wont really, really warm up too much. Probably by the weekend theyll get a little bump up. But most of the bigger jumps will be towards the inland areas. There was an accident about five hours ago that stalled for hours. I mean that for hours. Not the number four, but there was a long backup for quite a bit. So it looks like traffic is flowing smoothly there. Take you over to the bay bridge toll plaza heading into San Francisco. You shouldnt have any trouble if youre on 680. Where there is an accident, there, rather not an accident, but a traffic break. There thats going to cause a little bit of some backups, but that should be cleared in just a few minutes as well. Lets talk about i80, the stretch there into the east bay set to completely shut down once again tonight. Eastbound i80 from hercules to crockett. Thatll close at 9 00 tonight. Drivers will have to use a detour of highways four and 680. The road is set to be reopened before the monday morning commute. Now, this is the second of three closures of that section of i80. There will be one more the weekend of august 18th. Privacy advocates are raising concerns about the plan to bring automated license plate readers to oakland. Governor newsom has agreed to provide the city with 1. 2 million in state funds. That money will allow the city to immediately install license plate readers on oakland freeways and many busy streets, including international boulevard. Privacy groups are concerned how Law Enforcement agencies will use this information. My general concerns with alpr is that its literally mass surveillance. It indiscriminately collects data on all license plates driving by within view. Historically all across the country, for more than a decade, 99. 99 of all Data Collected will never be used. And so were putting people into a criminal Law Enforcement database for no reason. Theres no justification. Supporters of license plate readers say they are an effective way to track down criminals and will be an effective way to respond to the rising crime in oakland. The oregon man accused of kidnaping , assaulting and imprisoning a seattle woman has ties to the bay area. Nagata zubiri is accused of posing as an Undercover Police officer in kidnaping his victim last month. Investigators say he spent several years in oakland at a home in 61st avenue. He also lived in antioch years ago where he was arrested for assaulting a minor. The fbi believes this man may have other victims. They dont know about yet. Zubiri was arrested after a standoff with police in reno, nevada. He will be extradited back to oregon to face trial. A mistrial was declared in the Sexual Assault trial of san jose states former head athletic trainer. Scott shaw had pleaded not guilty to six federal charges. He was accused of sexually abusing four female athletes during physical therapy treatments from 2017 to 2020. The mercury news reports the majority of jurors were in favor of conviction, but one juror was intractable and the group could not reach a verdict. A developing story this morning. Pac 12 leaders are holding an emergency meeting right now as the future of the sports conference is up in the air. Bailey ocarroll live this morning from uc berkeley. Bailey, all of this coming as word of more schools could be leaving. Good morning, james. Thats right. The future of the pac 12 conference is on the brink and it all comes down to that all Important Media rights deal, which is what the focus of that pac 12 meeting is on this morning. According to a new report from espn, though, just out, they say those pac 12 officials are unlikely to agree on a deal this morning. So why is that such a big deal . Well, that is how these conferences, how these athletic departments make a majority of their money. So thats why not having a deal is such a big deal right now. Just nine schools remain in the pac 12 conference, and that number could lessen. But this exodus hasnt all happened overnight at usc. And ucla announced that they were leaving last year. Colorado following suit more recently this week, which was a major blow finalizing a deal that sends them to the big 12. Now, more schools could be leaving, according to espn. And the university of arizona is deep in talks with the big 12. And barring anything crazy in their board of regents meeting, that deal is expected to be finalized soon. This all happens as the big ten conference authorized meetings to possibly add oregon and washington, though according to the athletic that has lost some steam this morning just six days ago, the pac 12 commissioner was asked if he was worried about more schools leaving. This is what he had to say. Its not a concern. Our schools are committed to each other and to the pac 12. Well get our meteorites deal done, will announce the deal. I think the realignment thats going on in College Athletics will come to an end for this cycle. And then the truth is weve got bigger fish to fry to the end zone for the cardinal. Now, the commissioner also added that the patience of the remaining schools would be rewarded soon, and he said that the longer they wait, the better their offers have gotten, which is interesting considering many thought the loss of big names like usc and ucla would not bode well for a high paying rights deal. So the question now, how will this saga end, especially for Northern California schools like cal and stanford . Well, thats an answer that nobody really has, right now, but they likely have a few options. They could either form a smaller, lesser conference by adding expansion schools. San diego state is expected to be a target for this option. Or they could try to join the big ten in form a sort of West Coast Division there. But that would likely mean reduced revenue shares, which would have a domino effect. One of the most important things in College Athletics as i mentioned, how these conferences in athletic departments make their money is these media rights deals. And its something that athletes Pay Attention to nowadays with the emergence of nil being so important in College Athletics today, it can really be a big difference maker in getting top prospects to schools, also retaining them here. So just a big domino effect that this media deal or lack of a media deal could have for the pac 12. Reporting at cal, im bailey ocarroll, ktvu fox two news. 838 this morning it rarely happens but both the giants and as are off today on a friday theyll return to action tomorrow for the start of a two game bay bridge series at the oakland coliseum. As fans planning another reverse boycott to protest its owner, john fisher, and the teams proposed move to las vegas. But fans, this time well have to pay a little bit more for tomorrows tickets. The as use dynamic pricing, which changes ticket prices depending on availability. We just checked the as website and the cheapest tickets cost 44. Lowest prices for other games have been about 10. 838 your time this morning, mr. Steve paulson, hes got a look at what our weekend weather will be in just a couple of minutes. I do indeed. Go ahead. Go ahead, james. Its good. Its going to be warm inland. Weve been paying attention, taking notes. Steve warm inland. You do the same story for bay and cosign typical august weather forecast. Back to you. Steve very one, very well done. Back to you to theres a pretty good surge there on the fog all the way up to healdsburg, also in the napa valley, San Pablo Bay out to vallejo. Man, it looks like the cut offs around benicia, american canyon, hidden brook and then back over towards much of the marin coast. There are breaks, but another strong push. It looks like its beginning to burn off to an east bay, but made it out to deliver more than some breaks in between. But the stronger surge has been down towards santa clara valley. Also looking at santa cruz, watsonville down to monterey. Thats thick as thieves down there. Inland temps have really cooled off in the last five days. They bottomed out, though, yesterday. Theyll start to warm up again. Well go right back up. The old roller coaster here 94 on sunday to 74 on thursday, santa rosa, oakland, livermore and san jose. Up we go with the 86, 70, 86 and 80 on the forecast highs. Thats a pretty good jump. A lot of fog. But i do think the air aloft those the kind of the key 70 degrees at mount veeder and also 66 Ben Lomond Mountain those are up a good ten almost 15 degrees from yesterday. Not the berkeley lab probably by tomorrow theyll start to warm up as the fog gets compressed. 5060s on the temps still too much fog to warm up much. And you can see theres plenty on the coast. Thats not changing much at all. Thunderstorm activity is always close to tahoe, truckee, but it looks like its going to stay out of the picture there, at least into the weekend as temperatures bump up and it wont be as the parameters wont be as conducive to getting that thunderstorm activity. But still something to keep an eye on as the high builds in inland temps after the cooldown for wednesday and thursday. Theyre on their way back up here, sunny and warmer. Well still get a little bit of an afternoon breeze. Theres a lot of fog out there now. Its going to burn off a little sooner over the weekend as well. And the inland temps will jump up. But coast in bay, i really dont think that much warmer, but well get some hot conditions on sunday. Inland then it cools down monday, tuesday, theyre ali and james. All right. Thank you steve. Well ktvu. Mornings on two the nine is on the road this morning for a zip trip to los gatos. Los pedros los gatos. It starts about a half hour from now, about a little bit over 20 minutes as gas Gasia Mikaelian already out there this morning. Garcia no coat this time. No coat. Its super sweet and mild here this early friday morning. Ive seen a lot of people walking their dogs. I think the cats are all asleep at home as frankly i would be if i didnt have the chance to be here this morning. This is in far southern santa clara county, los gatos. Its a small town only about 14mi s in size. But boy, sheep packs a punch. Were going to highlight all the wonderful things this town has to offer in our zip trip this morning. And were also going to look ahead just a bit to about the next month or so and give you a big reason to come down for the art and Wine Festival here in los gatos, because, my goodness, it is amazing. Mid september, 200 plus artists, live music all weekend. Fine wine by local vintners and craft beers. So so much for the whole family to do. People make a point of coming here year after year and can i tell you the kiwanis club of los gatos has been doing it in an amazing way since 1996, and there is a lot of heart behind the art and Wine Festival. Well talk with an organizer coming up on the nine. Then, as long as youre here, lets have breakfast, lunch and dinner in los gatos. You can do it outside. Castaneda went out to do one of his most favorite assignments of the year, and he tasted his way through this town. Pizza, vietnamese food breweries, a longtime restaurant with the seafood linguine thats become a staple in this community. And far beyond a taste of the town of los gatos is coming up, starting at nine as well. So, again, we are inviting you to come and stay with us. Its a really quiet downtown right now. The los gatos theater hasnt fired up its first pictures for the day, but they, too, are getting in on the bargain, an heimer trend that shows no signs of abating. We have a lot of fun things to talk about here in los gatos and we do hope you join us because the nine is taking you on a zip trip to this gorgeous little town. This morning at nine, allie and james garcia. It is a gorgeous little town. I was noticing the architecture there. Ive been to los gatos a few times just coming through and maybe stopping to have something to eat, but i havent really taken it in. Thats what i love about these zip trips. It really tells you about the history and the local culture. There are people coming out. Its a nice day out there. Are people kind of seeing people milling around, getting their cup of coffee behind you, you know, a little bit of both that was kind of really sleepy when i got here about an hour of plus or so. But im seeing a little bit more activity on the streets there are no crowds right now, so its a great time to come out. A lot of people, like i said, walking dogs, getting coffee. I saw two people kind of talk in business as they walked, which, of course, is something youd expect here because we are sort of very much in the heart of Silicon Valley, but on the fringes of that big city feel. So its a nice place to live and then zip into the city or zip into san jose if you have to. As far as architecture goes, ali, i know you and i have talked about our love for midcentury or craftsman. Its an art deco 1950s theater behind me. And its just an amazing piece of history that survived and is thriving and like i said, is getting in on the very now trend of bourbon heimer as well in los gatos. And ive noticed the ktvu name right there on the marquee. So love it. I love that you have a great weather out there too. Garcia we look forward to catching you in just a little more than 15 minutes. Claudine you have some of the most fun stories of the most amazing, inspiring stories. What do you have for us today . Yes, this is no exception. James and alley. I mean these trips are so cool because they give us a look inside these great towns and cities across the bay area. And los gatos has been amazing. This morning im at new museum, los gatos. I cant wait to give you a tour of this really incredible spot and give you a look at the nonprofit that runs this and the exhibits that are in here. You are going to be amazed. I also cant wait to take you on a train ride because we went on the billie jones wildcat railroad and got a little ride checked out the carousel. It is really such a fun place. But also here in los gatos, its an institution. Welcome to the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad in los gatos, one of the few nonprofits of its kind, though a lot of the other ones in the area are private operations, privately owned for profit things that work to keep themselves afloat. We rely entirely on donations on ticket sales to kind of help keep us afloat. This railroad was born out of a love of train and community. It was back in the 1940s when billy jones found this number two train in a scrap yard and saved it and then created something everyone could enjoy. He loved trains so he actually worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for his entire career. So he grew up working with trains and having the opportunity to run a small engine on his property was something that appealed to him. He also just had a general love and care for the community so he wouldnt charge for tickets, any donations that would come in outside of just general maintenance costs. He would donate to local charities. It became a part of the fabric of los gatos, and jones made sure it stayed. We actually have a photo of billy jones and walt disney. Were actually friends to the point where walt wanted the number two engine to operate in disneyland. Originally before billy convinced and encouraged him to get his own engine so that it would have its own history rather than erasing the history of the number. Two dont you just love that story, right . He said. Walt disney, you get your own train. This is los gatos train. And so its really cool this morning. Im just excited. Two nonprofits from the railroad to this museum. If you are planning your weekend, youre saying, you know what, i should go down there. I should check it out. These are two places that you will not want to miss. So were excited to show you all of that coming up in our next hour, james and allie. And as weve learned and proved, no matter if youre from the bay area or from los gatos yourself , theres always something to learn from these trips. Yeah, what does that museum have . Is it like local history and culture . Can you give us a little preview who it is all of the above. Right. So they have some artists and artists in studio. They have a permanent exhibit that were going to show you that is all about kind of the history and the Untold Stories of los gatos. And they have some amazing artists work that we cant wait to show you because it is really stunning. You can just sit in here and kind of take it all in. Thats what ive been doing since i got here this morning, really just appreciating it. So everything that you just asked for, theyve got for you. All right. Thanks, claudine. Well check back with you in just a few zip trips. Not too far away, just some minutes away. In the meantime, though, we do want to get you caught up on the forecast. Steve paulson has that for us. All aboard for steves last weather hit of the week. No, im just kidding. Thats for tim over there. Thank you, tim. 50 and 60 on the temps here. We had a big fog bank and there it is still there. Are you retreating yet . Yes. East bay is, but up in the mountains. Any thunderstorms . No, its close. Had some pictures, sent us some towering queues up there. But all the active weather was just outside of tahoe and truckee and it looks like itll stay there had the had the cooldown wednesday, thursday, big time yesterday. Now the high builds back in. Well start to jump those temperatures back up 50, 60 by the coast. Our water temps are still cold. So the coast is not getting in on this big warm up here. Bay side. Well probably tomorrow inland will starting today, theyll top it out on sunday. There could be a few near 100 if youre far enough inland doesnt last. So thats been the theme going back to may. Three days of warmth and then it goes right back down. And thats what well see early again next week. Ali and james, all right. Thank you, steve. Well, a bay area woman coming to the rescue of tourists targeted by thieves. How she is trying to help those visitors get some of their belongings back dont luggage with their rightful owners. After grabbing all the valuables, she then looks for clues inside that luggage to help find its rightful owner. Its always a medication bottle in there. And then ill call that pharmacy. Or theres a theres a boarding pass. Im sure a lot of people are grateful for that.
