The Santa Clara Valley Water District has reached a milestone in the work to rebuild anderson dam construction crews are halfway finished on a project to dig a 1700 foot outlet tunnel through bedrock near the dam in morgan hill. Crews say their tunneling about ten feet a day. The new tunnel will allow water to be released from the reservoir faster in the event of an earthquake. Big winter storms or other emergencies. There are two projects. One is the federal which is the water outlet, the tunnel. Thats the first project that were in progress in right now. And that is ahead of schedule. Were not even a year into the project and the progress has been phenomenal. And after the tunnel is completed, the dam will be lowered and rebuilt under a state mandated earthquake retrofit.
